Trigger jquery script from PHP - javascript

I am trying to do the following:
1: Load an XML file (with a list devices that has a static name, and a changing value and note) - this works
2: Load the XML (t=0) into varaiables for easy use in the HTML - this works
3: Load XML again (t=200ms) - this works (I think)
4: Check if any values have changed between the two XML's
5: If TRUE then update one or more <DIV id=>
Task 1: I guess I need to have the loadxml script run again whenever it is done or say every 200 ms
Task 2: I need to write and call a script that can update the <DIV id=>
I have made my code with only two parameters for easy understanding and put in comments where I guess I need to have something.
If this is a crazy overall architecture, please give me a direction to look to.
<?php
loadxml() ;
function loadxml() {
$feed_url = "demoxml.xml";
$xml = file_get_contents($feed_url);
$array = json_decode(json_encode((array)simplexml_load_string($xml)),1);
for ($id=1; $id<=157; $id++) {
//dynamic
$generation='new';
$hs3device_note[$id][$generation]= $array['device'][$id]['#attributes']['note'] ;
if ($hs3device_note[$id]['current'] != $hs3device_note[$id]['new']) { ;
$hs3device_note[$id]['current'] = $hs3device_note[$id]['new'] ;
//CALL SCRIPT (like ReplaceContentInContainer) TO UPDATE <DIV id = $id> WITH CONTENT $hs3device_note[$id]['new'])
} ;
$hs3device_value[$id][$generation]= $array['device'][$id]['#attributes']['value'] ;
if ($hs3device_value[$id]['current'] != $hs3device_value[$id]['new']) { ;
$hs3device_value[$id]['current'] = $hs3device_value[$id]['new'] ;
//CALL SCRIPT (like ReplaceContentInContainer) TO UPDATE <DIV id = $id> WITH CONTENT $hs3device_note[$id]['new'])
} ;
}
//MAKE loadxml() call it self or restart in 200 ms
} ;
<script type='text/javascript' src='jquery-1.7.2.js'>
function ReplaceContentInContainer() {
var container = document.getElementById(id);
container.innerHTML = content;
}
</script>
<DIV id="hs3device_note[34]['current']">...</DIV>
<DIV id="hs3device_value[34]['current']">...</DIV>

AJAX or Asynchronous JavaScript and XML is a method of sending requests to a server from JavaScript asynchronously (hence the name), with your question it would mean you can send a request to the server (at a specified interval) to see if some data has changed and if the PHP script evaluates true (ie it has) then it is sent back to the HTML page to replace the existing data that is being displayed.
function myXMLRequest() {
var request = $.ajax({
url: "script.php",
type: "POST",
data: { action:'testmyxml' },
dataType: "html"
});
request.done(function( msg ) {
setTimeout(function() {
myXMLRequest();
}, 5000);
if(msg != "") {
$( "#mydiv" ).html( msg );
}
});
request.fail(function( jqXHR, textStatus ) {
alert( "Request failed: " + textStatus );
});
}
$(document).ready(function() {
myXMLRequest();
});
Reference: JQuery API documentation.
http://api.jquery.com/jquery.ajax/
the script.php is your php script that does all the logic, data is sent back using PHP's 'echo' command, if not don't echo anything... (you can test if msg is empty client side). msg will hold all the information that has been echoed by PHP in script.php and can be put into a div as shown in my example.

Is it possible to load content of page without Refreshing the whole page

Actually i want to refresh my content of a page without Refreshing the whole page through JavaScript or j Query ....... and i did my whole project into ( Php or javaScript) so i face such type of problem
Note : i want to refresh my page content when user do some action
Here is my Code:
//On Button click, the below will be execute:
$('body').on('click', '#click', loadDoc);
and the LoadDoc functio:
function loadDoc() {
//alert('heruybvifr');
var _this = $(this);
var order_id= $(this).parents('.modal').find('.order-id').text();
$.get('myPHP.php',{order_id: order_id},function(){
_this.hide();
})
}
Now myPHP.php :
<?php
include("connection.php");
$limit = intval($_GET['order_id']);
echo $valuek;
$query="UPDATE orders
SET status ='cooking'
WHERE id = $limit";
if (mysqli_query($connection,$query)) {
echo "Record updated successfully";
} else {
echo "Error updating record: " . mysqli_error($connection);
}
?>
Yes you can use the jQuery.ajax() call. Like this:
Change the text of a element using an AJAX request:
$("button").click(function(){
$.ajax({url: "demo_test.txt", success: function(result){
$("#div1").html(result);
}});
});
See this tutorial for more information:
http://www.w3schools.com/jquery/ajax_ajax.asp
You can use JQuery Ajax functions to accomplish your requirement.
all there functions given below will work for loading the content without refreshing the page.
$.post("/controller/function", params, function(data) {
// set received data to html
});
$.ajax("/controller/function", params, function(data) {
// set received data to html
});
$.get("/controller/function", params, function(data) {
// set received data to html
});
You can load the data from the server and and place the returned HTML into the matched element.
<div id="content"></div>
$("#content").load( "ajax/test.html" );

JQuery AJAX call to php function

I am trying to replace page reloading PHP scripts in a web page with AJAX calls.
I am using JQuery to run the AJAX scripts but it doesn't seem to be doing anything so I attempted to write an incredibly basic script just to test it.
My directory is as follows
public_html/index.php
/scripts/phpfunctions.php
/jqueryfunctions.js
index.php contains
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<head>
<!-- jquery functions -->
<script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.11.3/jquery.min.js"></script>
<script src="scripts/jqueryfunctions.js"></script>
<!-- php functions -->
<?php include 'scripts/phpfunctions.php' ?>
</head>
<body>
<button type="button" id="testButt">TEST</button>
</body>
</html>
Then the phpfunctions.php page which I am trying to call contains just an echo if an argument is set
<?php
if(isset($_GET["action"])) {
echo "test has been run";
}
?>
The jqueryfunctions.js script I am trying to run is
$(document).read(function () {
$('#testButt').on('click', function () {
console.log("jquery call worked"); // this bit does run when button is clicked
$.ajax({ // this bit doesn't seem to do anything
url: 'scripts/phpfunctions.php?action=run_test',
type: 'GET',
success: function (data) {
$('#ajaxdata').html(data);
},
error: function (log) {
console.log(log.message);
}
});
});
});
I see that the jqueryfunctions.js function is being called by the first console.log but it doesn't seem to be calling my phpfunctions.php function.
I was expecting to see the php echo "test has been run" but this doesn't happen.
Did I miss something?
You should use isset() method:
<?php
if(isset($_GET["action"])) {
if($_GET["action"] == "run_test") {
echo "test has been run";
}
}
?>
and if you are using ajax then why do you need to include it on index page:
<?php include 'scripts/phpfunctions.php' ?>
and i can't find this element $('#ajaxdata') on your index page.
Also you can check the network tab of your inspector tool to see the xhr request to the phpfunctions.php and see if this gets successfull or there is any error.
I think problem is here:
$(document).read(function() {
$('#testButt').on('click', function() {
console.log("jquery call worked"); // this bit does run when button is clicked
$.ajax({ // this bit doesn't seem to do anything
url: 'scripts/phpfunctions.php',
type: 'GET',
data: {action:'run_test'}, // <------ Here
success: function(data) {
$('#ajaxdata').html(data);
},
error: function(log) {
console.log(log.message);
}
});
});
});
jQuery says:
Data to be sent to the server. It is converted to a query string, if not already a string. It's appended to the url for GET-requests. See processData option to prevent this automatic processing. Object must be Key/Value pairs. If value is an Array, jQuery serializes multiple values with same key based on the value of the traditional setting.
So you should set data: {key:'value'}
Most things look fine, but your data attribute is designed for "POST" requests, try to add the data to the url as follows:
$( document ).read( function ()
{
$( '#testButt' ).on( 'click', function ()
{
console.log( "jquery call worked" ); // this bit does run when button is clicked
$.ajax( { // this bit doesn't seem to do anything
url: 'scripts/phpfunctions.php?action=run_test', // Add the GET request to the end of the URL
type: 'GET',
//data: 'action=run_test', Unrequired noise :P (this is for post requests...)
success: function ( data )
{
$( '#ajaxdata' ).html( data );
},
error: function ( log )
{
console.log( log.message );
}
} );
} );
} );
And also (as mentioned in my comments), you need to finish your bodys closing tag:
</body> <!-- Add the closing > in :P -->
</html>
I hope this helps :)
Where do you load ajaxfunctions.js? It look like in your code you never load the resource
And change
<button id="xxx">
In
<button type="button" id="xxx">
So the page isn't reloaded

Server is crashing

I am running a longpolling script to grab data from the database. It was working fine until moving my script to an MVC.
I have viewed the chrome developer tool and it's showing nothing in there, but the page just carries on loading, and when I go to refresh it won't load, I have to shut down my xampp server or close my browser... Here's my script:
class SystemController extends Controller
{
public function lastbid()
{
set_time_limit(0);
// main loop
while (true) {
//get the product info
$getbidresult = ProductModel::bidprice(Request::get('item'));
// if ajax request has send a timestamp, then $last_ajax_call = timestamp, else $last_ajax_call = null
$last_ajax_call = Request::get('timestamp');
// get timestamp of when file has been changed the last time
$lastbid = isset($getbidresult->timestamp) ? $getbidresult->timestamp : 0;
// if no timestamp delivered via ajax or data.txt has been changed SINCE last ajax timestamp
if ($last_ajax_call == null || $lastbid > $last_ajax_call) {
// put last bid info into an array
$result = array(
'bidamount' => isset($getbidresult->amount) ? System::escape($getbidresult->amount): 0,
'timestamp' => System::escape($lastbid)
);
// encode to JSON, render the result (for AJAX)
$json = json_encode($result);
echo $json;
// leave this loop step
break;
} else {
// wait for 1 sec (not very sexy as this blocks the PHP/Apache process, but that's how it goes)
sleep(10);
continue;
}
}
}
}
This is how I am grabbing the data with JS.
function getContent(timestamp)
{
var queryString = {
'timestamp': timestamp
};
$.ajax(
{
type: 'GET',
url: '<?php echo Config::get('URL'); ?>system/lastbid?item=<?php echo System::escape($recentitem->id); ?>',
data: queryString,
success: function(data)
{
var obj = jQuery.parseJSON(data);
$('#bidprice-<?php echo System::escape($recentitem->id); ?>').html(obj.bidamount);
getContent(obj.timestamp);
}
});
}
$(function()
{
getContent();
});
$(document).ready(function() {
});
I've looked in apache logs with no avail unless I am looking in the wrong place. Does anything in the code look out of place, It doesn't to my knowledge but I may be overlooking something.
I have the script in a foreach, so I can initiate the div, for each product.
Edit, viewed apache and mysql logs and it showing nothing. Could it be a memory leak?
I think I have fixed it with the help of someone from an external website. It was to do with the sleep()
I have fixed it using:
session_write_close();
I will do more testing to see how it hold up before reporting back. With the reason why etc.

How can I execute a query on success of jQuery

I am using jQuery to delete some data from database. I want some functionality that when jQuery returns success I want to execute a query. I want to update a another table on success of jQuery without page refresh. Can I do this and if yes how can I do this?
I am newbie to jQuery so please don't mind if it's not a good question for stackoverflow.
This is my script:
<script type="text/javascript">
$(document).ready(function () {
function delete_comment(autoid, btn_primary_ref) {
$.ajax({
url: 'rootbase.php?do=task_manager&element=delete_comment',
type: "POST",
dataType: 'html',
data: {
autoid: autoid
},
success: function (data) {
// I want to execute the Update Query Here
alert("Comment Deleted Successfully");
$(btn_primary_ref).parent().parent().hide();
var first_visible_comment = $(btn_primary_ref).parent().parent().parent().children().find('div:visible:first').eq(0).children('label').text();
if (first_visible_comment == "") {} else {
$(btn_primary_ref).parent().parent().parent().parent().parent().parent().prev().children().text(first_visible_comment);
}
load_comment_function_submit_button(autoid, btn_primary_ref);
},
});
}
$(document).on('click', '.delete_user_comment', function (event) {
var autoid = $(this).attr('id');
var btn_primary_ref = $(this);
var r = confirm("Are you sure to delete a comment");
if (r == true) {
delete_comment(autoid, btn_primary_ref);
} else {
return false;
}
});
});
</script>
You can't do database operations directly in Javascript. What you need to do is to simply make a new AJAX request on success to a php file on the backend to update given table. However this would mean two AJAX requests to the backend, both of which manages database data. Seems a bit unnecessary. Why not just do the update operation after the delete operation in the php file itself?
add a server sided coded page that will execute your query.
example :
lets say you add a page named executequery.php.
with this code:
when you want to execute your query do the following :
$.post("executequery.php",//the URL of the page
{
param1:value1,
param2:value2....//if you want to pass some parameters to the page if not set it to null or {}
},
function(data){
//this is the callback that get executed after the page finished executing the code in it
//the "data" variable contain what the page returened
}
);
PS : tha paramters sent to the page are conidired like $_POST variables in the php page
there is an other solution but its UNSAFE i recomand to NOT use it.
its to send the query with the paramters and that way you can execute the any query with the same page example :
$.post("executequery.php",//the URL of the page
{
query:"insert into table values("
param1:value1,
param2:value2....//if you want to pass some parameters to the page if not set it to null or {}
},
function(data){});

How to return json value from php page to html page by ajax and how to show result on html page

I m validating email id in php and ajax, and want to return value from php page to html in JSON format.
I want to keep that return value in php variable for the further use.
I'm doing these all in codeigniter, and I want to show .gif image while my AJAX is processing. (Pre loader image)
AJAX/Javascript/jQuery:
function checkEmail(value_email_mobile) {
if (value_email_mobile !== '') {
//alert('te');
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
url: url_check_user_avail_status,
data: "value_email_mobile=" + value_email_mobile,
success: function(msg) {
alert(msg);
//$('#psid').html("<img src='images/spacer.gif'>");
// $('#stat').html(msg);
//
//$('#sid').sSelect({ddMaxHeight: '300px'});
},
error: function() {
//alert('some error has occured...');
},
start: function() {
//alert('ajax has been started...');
}
});
}
}
PHP/Controller:
<?php
function check_email_or_mobile($param)
{
$ci = CI();
$value = $param['email_or_mobile'];
$query = "SELECT user_email , mobile FROM tb_users WHERE user_email = '$value' or mobile = '$value'";
$query = $ci->db->query($query);
if ($query->num_rows() > 0)
{
if (is_numeric($value))
{
return $res = "This mobile number is not registerd";
}
else
{
return $res = "This Email id is not registerd";
}
}
}
This is just to give you an example on how it will work.
First off, (obviously) there must the a preloader image ready inside the document. This must be hidden initially.
Second, before triggering the AJAX request, show the loading animated GIF.
Third, after the request if successful. Hide the image again inside your success: block inside the $.ajax().
Consider this example: Sample Output
PHP:
function check_email_or_mobile($param) {
// your functions, processes, blah blah
// lets say your processes and functions takes time
// lets emulate the processing by using sleep :)
sleep(3); // THIS IS JUST AN EXAMPLE! If your processing really takes time
$data['message'] = 'Process finished!';
// with regarding to storing, use sessions $_SESSION for further use
$_SESSION['your_data'] = $data_that_you_got;
echo json_encode($data); // use this function
exit;
}
// just a simple trigger for that post request (only used in this example)
// you really dont need this since you will access it thru your url
// domain/controller/method
if(isset($_POST['request'])) {
check_email_or_mobile(1);
}
HTML/jQuery/AJAX:
<!-- your animated loading image -->
<img src="http://i600.photobucket.com/albums/tt82/ugmhemhe/preloader.gif" id="loader" style="display: none;" />
<script src="//ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.11.1/jquery.min.js"></script>
<!-- <script type="text/javascript" src="jquery.min.js"></script> -->
<script type="text/javascript">
$(document).ready(function(){
// before the request, show the GIF
$('#loader').show();
$.ajax({
url: document.URL, // JUST A SAMPLE (url_check_user_avail_status)
type: 'POST',
data: {request: true},
dataType: 'JSON',
// data: "value_email_mobile=" + value_email_mobile,
success: function(response) {
// After a succesful response, hide the GIF
$('#loader').fadeOut();
alert(response.message);
}
});
});
</script>
My assumption is, since this is just a simple email checking, this wont really take a chunk of time. The other way is to fake the loading process.
success: function(response) {
// After a succesful response, hide the GIF
// Fake the loading time, lets say 3 seconds
setInterval(function(){
$('#loader').fadeOut();
alert(response.message);
}, 3000);
}
Let us know what part of your code is not working?
1) Check if the request flow is hitting the function checkEmail? PHP has inbuilt JSON converting utility json_encode. You could start using that.
2) If you want to store this on the server for further use, you could think about usage like
a) Storing it in Database (If really needed based on your requirements. Note: This is always expensive)
b) Session - If you would want this info to be available for all the other users too.
c) Or keep it in the memory like any of the caching mechanisms like memcache etc
3) For displaying the busy display,
// Before the below ajax call, show the busy display
$.ajax({
});
// After the ajax call, hide the busy display.
You could do this using JavaScript / JQuery on your choice.
I remember using
JSON.parse(data)
to convert JSON ino a javascript object.
Jquery has its own JSON parser btw. Something like $.JSONParse(data)
