I want to achieve something similar to this page https://www.quantopian.com/algorithms. If you click on the Guided Tour button on the right top corner, you will see what I mean. Can anyone point me to some tutorial or ideas how to implement this?
To be specific in case the site is down. I want some kind of step by step pop up message box that guides the first-time user to get familiar with the app. While the popup is shown, the rest of the app should be disabled, and the only button the user can click on is the next step or close button on the message box.
UPDATE:
There seem to be way more javascript libraries than I expected. This one from Linkedin seems to be well maintained on github: https://github.com/LinkedInAttic/hopscotch.

This looks like what you are looking for - Tourist

I think this is exactly what you are looking for it: May even be made with this on your demo example site.

I have tried googling this with many combinations of words but the results returned were always about creating a website.
What I want to do is, when a user opens the web page, he will get a little introduction, something like in codility, for example you can click on this button to do something and at the same time highlight the button. How is that done? I am not looking for ready made code, just some instructions to point me in the right direction, or a tutorial on how to do that.
EDIT:
I would have deleted this question if I thought it does not conform to the rules of the website. I don't think it is off topic because it can happen to anyone to not know a specific word, which is tour not tutorial. I am leaving it here so that the next person who searches for this knows that the word is tour not tutorial.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
The keyword you're looking for is tour or features introduction.
A quick Google search came up with:
Angular-tour
Angular-ui-tour
NZTour
You can create a function (JavaScript/JQuery) that targets the elements you want to highlight (buttons, divs or inputs) and displays a small tooltip/infotip containing instructions and navigation buttons, clicking a button pops up an other tooltip in a different location.
If you're using angular, you can use "website tour" directives/modules that does that out of the box.

I am trying to copy a website for practice(new to html, css, and javascript) So I created a navigation bar on the left(like on the link provided for the food items) and when you click on it, it is supposed to pop up the items they have to the right of the navigation bar. I am not sure what that is called and how to do that. Is there a tutorial that you guys know that teaches me how to do that. I only found things like drop down menu, etc. Here is the website I am trying to copy
http://order.carsidetogo.com/menu/applebees-fairfax
They are called tabs, they can be horizental(top/bottom) or vertical(left/right), you can take a look at this w3schools tutorial http://www.w3schools.com/howto/howto_js_tabs.asp .

Hello stackOverflow community!,
This might be a lot to ask but I'm trying to make a donation box, where the user is able to select a donation amount or write their amount. Once the confirm button is clicked it will direct the user to the payPal page with the amount set on the page. Would anyone be able to guide me in the right direction? I'm good at HTML and CSS (currently learning JQUERY and PHP).
I got the inspiration from this website - http://www.losttype.com/font/?name=liberator
Many thanks

I know the Title is a little obscure, but I will try to explain my best. Since OS X Lion the login screen of the Macs presents a row of images of the available users. Once you click one of those images, the rest disappear, centering the clicked one and revealing a password field.
I want to do a similar thing in a web-app. I have a few users, and I want them to click on their image to reveal the password field.
I searched for similar options, but can't find anything, and I don't even know how to proceed. I guess JQuery or Javascript would be necessary, but those I know little to nothing (HTML & CSS shouldn't be a problem, but well, I don't even know how to start this simple thing... )
Thanks!
Google is your friend... no matter how much the NSA are watching. Use it to search for tutorials, these are the best way to learn. Mostly CSS will be needed to make it look like the OSX login screen... maybe a bit of jQuery.
Within in seconds I found this page of many examples of login forms. And then I found this one that looks very similar to an OSX login page.

I've never seen it before, but I reckon it can be done.
I'm making an application right now, and I use a prompt in javascript to get the requried data, like
description = prompt ("insert your description here, please");
Now, we want to be able to retrieve a date from a datepicker inside this prompt.
So, prompt comes up, asks for a description, you fill in your description, click ok, and then another prompt box comes up with a datepicker. That's the idea, but it seems impossible to achieve.
Can someone guide me to the right direction?
It looks like a modal dialog would be more appropriate than a form:
