Send HTML form post data to file with Jquery? - javascript

I am trying to send post data to my post data file handler called postinfo.php with jQuery but so far I can make it.
Here is my post.php code:
<HTML>
<head>
<script src="//ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.10.2/jquery.min.js"></script>
</head>
<script type="text/javscript">
$('#form_id').on('submit', function(e){
e.preventDefault();
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
url: "http://www.vemvo.com/test/postinfo.php",
data: $(this).serialize(),
success: function() {
alert('success');
}
});
});
</script>
<form method="post" id="form_id">
<input type="text" name="ime">
<input type="submit" id="submit" name="submit" value="Send">
</form>
You can see the page here: http://www.vemvo.com/test/post.php
Here is the code from my postinfo.php:
<?PHP
$ime = $_POST['ime'];
echo "Your name is $ime";
?>
Here is located postinfo.php - http://www.vemvo.com/test/postinfo.php
So where is my mistake and how I can make it work?
Now it's not sending the data and not giving me the success alert.

Your jQuery selector isn't going to find that form, since the selector is running before the form tag exists in the DOM. Try wrapping it in the jQuery function to wait for the document to be ready:
$(function () {
$('#form_id').on('submit', function(e){
// the rest of your code
});
});
It also might be a good idea to return false at the end, to further suppress the form's default post action:
e.preventDefault();
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
url: "./postinfo.php",
data: $(this).serialize(),
success: function() {
alert('success');
}
});
return false;
Currently the form is posting as normal. Since the AJAX handler is never attached (because the element doesn't exist when the selector executes), it's just doing a normal document-level form post. And since there's no action attribute specified in the form tag, the page is posting to itself by default. Which just responds with the current page.
Edit: You also have a typo which may be preventing the browser from executing your JavaScript code at all:
<script type="text/javscript">
You're missing the second "a". This should be:
<script type="text/javascript">

You MUST spell text/javascript correctly
You need to assign the event handler on load
There should not be any need to return false as posted by some other people here
NEVER call anything submit in a form
Wrap your html in body tags
Use a correct DOCTYPE

JavaScript and PHP code not working

I have simple code with html, JavaScript and PHP. I am trying to pass a variable from HTML to PHP through ajax.
A text box appears on screen with button, user inputs in the text field and clicks the button. The field text should appear before the field. But in my case, nothing happens when clicking the button. I am posting my code below. These are the three files I have made:
index.html
<!doctype html>
<html lang="en">
<body>
<input id="name" type="text" /> <input id="button" type="button" value="Load" />
<div id="content"></div>
<script type="text/javascript" src="ajax.js"></script>
</body>
</html>
ajax.js
$('#button').click(function() {
document.write("this is javascript");
var name = $('#name').val();
$.ajax({
url: 'page.php',
data: name,
success: function(data) {
$('#content').html(data);
}
});
});
page.php
<?php
if(isset($_GET['name'])) {
echo "lllllllllllllllll";
echo $name=$_GET['name'];
}
?>
Add CDN as mentioned above. Also make sure you load the jquery CDN or jquery.lib.js before including external js file, ajax.js in index.html.
There is an issue in your $.ajax code:
$.ajax({
url: 'page.php',
data: name,
success: function(data) {
$('#content').html(data);
}
});
change this to:
$.ajax(
{
type:'GET',
url: 'page.php',
data:"name=test"
},
success: function(data) {
$('#content').html(data);
}
);
only add before axaj.js
<script type="text/javascript" src="https://code.jquery.com/jquery-3.3.1.min.js"></script>
add this in your javascript ajax: type : 'GET'.
In your php code :
$name=$_GET['name'];
echo $name;

Working in Local system but not when uploaded in server

I created a simple form, onSubmit it takes the values to js page(AJAX CALL) then send to add.php page again returns the value to html page.
This code is working fine on my local system but when i test it in server AJAX call is not working.Even i just tested as on submit(click) alert from add.js(AJAX) but not working and works good in local(XAMP)
var btn = document.getElementById("sub");
btn.addEventListener("click", function() {
//alert('came');
var data=$("#myForm :input").serializeArray();
$.post($("#myForm").attr("action"),data,function(info){
$("#result").html(info);
});
});
$("#myForm").submit(function() {
return false;
});
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<head>
<title>
Ajax call
</title>
</head>
<body>
<form id="myForm" action="add.php" method="post">
<input type="text" name="uname">
<input type="text" name="age">
<button id="sub">submit</button>
</form>
<span id="result"></span>
<script src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.11.2/jquery.min.js"></script>
<script src="add.js"></script>
</body>
</html>
Here is my add.php , which echo the result that will be displayed in my html result div tag `
<?php
$name=$_POST['uname'];
$age=$_POST['age'];
echo $name;
Is there anything to change while uploading in server.Whats wrong in my code.
Thanks in advance.
This is the object you are sending to the server, you can see that it has not the structure that the server side 'add.php' is expecting, so there is no $_POST['uname'] variable. You may use a var_dump($_POST) to see the structure you are receiving or use $("#myForm").serialize() that I've used a lot and worked fin to me.
var btn=document.getElementById("sub");
btn.addEventListener("click",function(){
alert('came');
var data=$("#myForm :input").serializeArray();
$.post($("#myForm").attr("action"),data,function(info){
$("#result").html(info);
$('#myForm')[0].reset();*/
//please have a look in your add.js:9:26
});
});
$("#myForm").submit(function(){
return false;
});
Could you follow ajax in this method, Surely it will works for you.
<button type="button" onclick="submit()" class="input-group-addon addbtn">Submit</button>
function submit(){
var data = $("#myForm").serialize();
$.ajax({
url: 'your url',
type: "post",
data: {'formSerialize':data, '_token': $('meta[name="_token"]').attr('content')},
success: function(data){
if(data.success==1){
alert('success');
}else if(data.error==1){
alert('error');
}
}
});
}
In your controller you can get the value like this
parse_str($data['formSerialize'],$input);
In $input You can easily access all the field value.
Problems: I'm not 100% sure what's causing your problem. But on my end I found the problem to be browser related since it worked on Chrome but not on FireFox.
One scenario would that FireFox didn't recognize your:
$("#myForm").submit(function() {
return false;
});
It does happen that FireFox will do so if you don't abide by its standards. I did explain this in my answer about event.preventDefault();
I also completely changed your add.js as I've found some of your code unnecessary and that it could be combined into a cleaner function. Since you're already using jQuery might as well stick to it and not use DOM.
FORM:
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<head>
<title>
Ajax call
</title>
</head>
<body>
<form id="myForm">
<input type="text" name="uname">
<input type="text" name="age">
<button type="submit">Submit</button>
</form>
<span id="result"></span>
<script src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.11.2/jquery.min.js"></script>
<script src="add.js"></script>
</body>
</html>
ADD.JS
//you need to add "event" as a parameter to the function since Firefox
//will not recognize event.preventDefault(); if its missing
$( "#myForm" ).on( "submit", function( event ) {
event.preventDefault(); //this will prevent the form from submitting
var form_data = $("#myForm").serialize();
$.ajax({
method: "POST",
url: "add.php",
data: {form_data: form_data},
success: function (info) {
$("#result").html(info);
}
});
});
ADD.PHP
<?php
$form_data = $_POST['form_data'];
$params = array();
parse_str($form_data, $params);
$name = $params['uname'];
$age = $params['age'];
echo $name;

I'm posting form data with AJAX, but the form keeps submitting and refreshing the page anyway. What am I missing?

So I'm making a very small, very simple chat application using mostly JQuery / AJAX.
Here is my HTML form.
<form class="chat_form" method="post" id="chat_form" autocomplete="off">
<input class="form-control" type="text" name="chatMe" placeholder="Type here..." autocomplete="off">
<input type="submit" value="Submit" name="submit">
</form>
Here is my script:
<script type="text/javascript">
$('.chat_form').submit(function(){
$.ajax({
url: "runMe.cfm",
type: "POST",
data: $('.chat_form').serialize(),
success: function() {
$('.chat_form input').val('');
}
});
});
</script>
To my understanding, that's supposed to submit all the form information to my action page then clear the input - and it does. That part works fine. I'm getting my data.
But whenever I submit the form, the entire page reloads as if it's ignoring a key part of my code.
Any help on that part? Thanks.
Solution 1:
By adding e.preventDefault();
Example:
$('.chat_form').submit(function(e){
e.preventDefault();
//ajax code here
});
Solution 2
Alternatively, by adding little javascript onsubmit="return false" code in form tag:
Example:
<form class="chat_form" method="post" id="chat_form" autocomplete="off" onsubmit="return false">
You need to call e.preventDefault() for can submit the form only from the javascript code.
$('.chat_form').submit(function(e){
$.ajax({
url: "runMe.cfm",
type: "POST",
data: $('.chat_form').serialize(),
success: function() {
$('.chat_form input').val('');
}
});
e.preventDefault() // put that line of code here or on last line on success function
});
You have propagation of the event by default, you probably need one or both of these calls:
e.preventDefault();
e.stopPropagation();
When the submit() is called on your object, it won't stop there. It will call the default afterward, so you want to add a parameter and then do those calls as in:
$('.chat_form').submit(function(e){ // <- add parameter here
e.preventDefault();
e.stopPropagation();
$.ajax({
url: "runMe.cfm",
type: "POST",
data: $('.chat_form').serialize(),
success: function() {
$('.chat_form input').val('');
}
});
});

How do you make the response of an HTML form update the text on a page?

I have a form in HTML as follows. I am trying to make it so the response (a string) of this POST becomes the text with id="answer".
<head>
<script src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.7/jquery.js"> </script>
<script src="http://malsup.github.com/jquery.form.js"></script>
<script src="form.js"></script>
</head>
<body>
<form id="myForm"
action="http://myserver.com/post-destination/"
method="post">
<p><label>Input: <br><textarea name="formInput"></textarea></label></p>
<p><input type="submit" value="Submit" /></p>
</form>
<p id="answer">?</p>
</body>
I am attempting to use the jQuery Form plugin in a file called form.js, which consists of:
$(document).ready(function() {
$('#myForm')
.ajaxForm({
target: "#answer"
});
});
What am I doing wrong here? I'm sure it's just something really dumb, and I know there are a lot of questions about HTML forms and jQuery, yet following them is proving unsuccessful. I just can't figure this out whatsoever as it's my first time attempting anything web-related. Thanks for the help!
You jQuery ajax calls appears to be incorrect. You can refactor it as below:
$(document).ready(function() {
$('#myForm').submit(function(e)
{
var postData = $(this).serializeArray();
var formURL = $(this).attr("action");
$.ajax(
{
url : formURL,
type: "POST",
data : postData,
success:function(data, textStatus, jqXHR)
{
// set the target data
console.log ('set the target data');
},
error: function(jqXHR, textStatus, errorThrown)
{
//if fails
console.log ('server responded something else ...');
}
});
});
});
You could try this:
<head>
<script>
function text() {
var answer = document.getElementById("input").value;
document.getElementById("answer").innerHTML = answer;
}
</script>
</head>
<body>
<form id="myForm" action="http://myserver.com/post-destination/" method="post">
<p><label>Input: <br><textarea id="input" name="formInput"></textarea></label></p>
<p><input onClick="text()" type="submit" value="Submit" /></p>
</form>
<p id="answer">?</p>
</body>

Post not sent immediately with ajax

<script src="http://www.ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.9.1/jquery.min.js></script>
<script src="http://code.jquery.com/jquery-1.10.1.min.js"></script>
<script src="http://code.jquery.com/jquery-migrate-1.2.1.min.js"></script>
<form>
<label>Campo</label>
<input id="campo" name="campo" placeholder="Campo" required="" type="text">
</form>
<script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript">
$(document).ready(function() {
$.ajax({
url: "control.php",
type: "POST",
data: "campo=" + $("input#campo").val(),
success : function(data) {
if (data == 1) {
$("#div").html("Campo non disponibile");
}
else {
$("#div").html("Campo disponibile :)");
}
}
});
});
</script>
I saw with Firebug that the POST contains the value of the input field is sent only updating the page and not immediately. Why?
You don't have a proper click/submit handler registered for the form submission. Instead, you call $.ajax only on document ready. That's why you only see the submission on page load (or to be more accurate, document ready).
You need to listen to the submit event, so change your code to something like the following
$(document).on("submit", "form", function(e) {
e.preventDefault();
$.ajax({
…
});
});
You don't need to wait for the document to be ready if your javascript is at the end of the page (it's always ready at that point). And I noticed that you include both v1.9 and v.1.10 of jQuery and that's generally not needed nor advisable.
