Garmin and Monkey C "Cannot find symbol ':setText'..." - javascript

I want to try a garmin WachFace and came across very quickly folgnden error, but unfortunately I do not know why it occurs, maybe someone can help you?
Cannot find symbol ':setText' on type 'PolyType<Null or $.Toybox.WatchUi.Drawable>'
I use the following code:

The error is thrown for all .setText(). In this case 9 times
I have tried everything I could think of.

the following solves the problem:
change
var view = View.findDrawableById("TimeLabel");
into
var view = View.findDrawableById("TimeLabel") as Text;
done!

How to use Teaspoon for JS testing

I'm new to JS testing and I would like to understand how to test a JS function I have. I'm using Teaspoon-mocha as the testing library and the function I would like to test is:

I would like to have an example how to test this specific function.
This function actually getNamespace from the final part of a specific URI which is defined by that var C_FORM so the result is that is getting the namespace which is Form.
I would like to test this function if it is doing this by Teaspoon but as above I'm not familiar with this kind of testing, I need just an example to get familiar.
I tried the next solution but I get that equal is undefined:

SCRIPT1003 error in IE

In my project, I make a require call to a js file to create an object of the file.
For example,
require(['directory/hello-js-file'], function(Hello){
var hello = new Hello();
hello.show();
});
After this block, Hello is undefined. In the IE console, I see this error message, 'SCRIPT1003: Expected ':' File: Function code (13), Line:2, Column:1'
The function looks like this:
function anonymous(){
return eval(arguments[0]);
}
I was able to narrow down this issue being originated from two functions (Contents have been modified but the logic is same.):
bindDetail: function($view){
var self = this;
var details = object.details; // object is a global variable
for(var i = 0; i < details.length; i++){
if(self.hasData(details[i])){
// doSomething
}
}
},
hasData(detail){
if(detail.data !== undefined && detail.data !== ""){
return true;
}
return false;

This issue only arises in IE. This works fine in Chrome.
Can someone please direct me to a solution? Thank you. I appreciate your help.
After posting the question, I realized that I was missing the :function tag to hasData. That resolved the issue. :)

Private variable not staying private in JS module

After reading the following article,

I have decided to start implementing modules in my JS.
Unfortunately, the module I am using does not seem to be keeping the private variable private,

As you can see, I am able to change the value of
popoverOptionsModule._stopAskingList and log the update to the console... I thought this was not supposed to happen. Thanks for your help!
JS is completely dynamically typed, so when you have the line
popoverOptionsModule._stopAskingList = 4;
You've just created this variable and assigned it a value, hence why the next line succeeds. If you didn't have this line, then the subsequent console.log would report undefined. This code would work too
popoverOptionsModule._abc = 4;
console.log(popoverOptionsModule._abc);
Remember that this isn't actually a private variable in the same way that OO languages implement protection levels, rather it's just an API pattern that attempts to hide it from the caller.

Basic var misunderstanding

I have created this:
var where = function(){
sym.getSymbol("Man").getPosition()
}

if (where()<=0){
var playMan = sym.getSymbol("Man").play();

This is for Edge Animate hence all the syms. I am trying to access the timeline of symbol Man, then if it is at 0 play it. But it isnt working and the reason, I think, is that I have an incomplete understanding of how a var works. In my mind I am giving the variable 'where' the value of the timeline position of symbol 'Man'. In reality the console is just telling me I have a function there, not the value of the answer. I have run into this before and feel if I can crack it I will be a much better human being.
So if anyone can explain in baby-language what I am misunderstanding I would be grateful.

var where = function () { ... };
and
function where() { ... }
are essentially synonymous here. So, where is a function. You are calling that function here:
if (where()<=0)
However, the function does not return anything. You need to return the value from it, not just call sym.getSymbol("Man").getPosition() inside it.
That, or don't make it a function:
var where = sym.getSymbol("Man").getPosition();
if (where <= 0) ...
The value will only be checked and assigned once in this case, instead of updated every time you call where().
Try
var where = function()
{
return sym.getSymbol("Man").getPosition();
};
Your code wasn't returning anything.

Flash player control from javascript outside?

I am making flash player that suppose to be controlled from outside, from javascript.
I need those methods:
Play/Pause and Volume level
I am stuck with volume level... I tried to add this code:
flashMovie.volume = 10;
Where flashMovie is flash instance... And it's show NO ERROR but it's NOT WORKING
I try to make inner AddCall(); and then when it's called to call() from javascript to return sound level.
AS 3:

When you are using slider each time slider change you need to change soundlevel variable and call soundlevelset();

Try removing the parentheses when calling giveMeVolume, by changing this:
var vlm = ExternalInterface.call('giveMeVolume()');
to this:
var vlm = ExternalInterface.call('giveMeVolume');
If that doesn't work, try passing the volume directly as an argument/parameter, like this (this is probably a better way to do it):
AS3:
function setthisvolume(vlm)
{
this.soundTransform.volume = vlm;
}
ExternalInterface.addCallback("setthisvolume", setthisvolume);
JS:

Code looks reasonable.
Check if you allow Flash to communicate with script There is property when you create Flash object - AllowsScriptAccess - http://help.adobe.com/en_US/as3/dev/WS5b3ccc516d4fbf351e63e3d118a9b90204-7c9b.html .
Check if Falsh is coming from the same domain as HTML page.
For addCallback check if you are getting correct Flash object by Id (the way to create Flash is different in IE/FF, so you may be getting the wrong one).
Check if you have correct SWF file - browser may cache older version... I.e. add element on the Flash control that simply shows static number and make sure it matches to latest one.
