requestAnimationFrame is not defined nest.js/vue [duplicate] - javascript

I'm working on Next.js and React-Native-Web. I managed to run them together following the official Next.js example but when I'm trying to use the Animated package from the react-native it fails with Error that the requestAnimationFrame isn't defined. Basically this functionality does the node_modules package but I set the alias in webpack to translate all react-native requires to the react-native-web so even the node_modules package should use the react-native-web.
Any suggestions on how to solve it?

The problem is in the missed RequestAnimationFrame functionality at the server. This error happens when Next.js tries to render the component during SSR.
Unfortunately, there is no polyfill, etc. for such purpose so I just decided to use the Next.js dynamic imports for a Component that has animation functionality.

I'm coding an App with React Native Web and NextJS 12, and in 2021 I encounter this problem and I fixed it, but now I know my fix was only for Next Dev, because it returned for Next Production Build.
Solution details:
No Dynamic import (which is useful too, but can be annoying when having lot of components using it)
Using RAF polyfill and Webpack ProvidePlugin.
Main thing to have in mind is that next.config.js with webpack 5 is going to check the codes first before even reach next entry points _documents.js and _app.js. It means that, you can put polyfill in those entry point files, it will still raise error of RAF undefined. You have to make requestAnimationFrame ready for config check.
DEV approach that will work on Next DEV only. Install RAF package https://www.npmjs.com/package/raf and In next.config.js add codes:
const raf = require('raf');
raf.polyfill();
This will add requestAnimationFrame and cancelAnimationFrame function to global and window object if they don't have it. In our case, it would add it in global for NodeJS.
But this solution won't work when executing npm run dev. I don't know why, if anyone knows why Next or Webpack 5 act differently from DEV to PRODUCTION, let me know.
Complete Solution:
Use ProvidePlugin config of webpack 5 https://webpack.js.org/plugins/provide-plugin/ . Create a file to use as modules, let's say: raf.js in root project or anywhere you want:

And now, it's up to you to adapt to your existing config logic. By doing this, in Production Build, NextJS is injecting the requestAnimationFrame function in Server Side everywhere a module is using it.

error "window" is not available during server side rendering [duplicate]

I have been trying to build my gatsby (react) site recently using an external package.
The link to this package is "https://github.com/transitive-bullshit/react-particle-animation".
As I only have the option to change the props from the components detail, I cannot read/write the package file where it all gets together in the end as it is not included in the public folder of 'gatsby-build'.
What I have tried:
Editing the package file locally, which worked only on my machine but when I push it to netlify, which just receives the public folder and the corresponding package.json files and not the 'node-modules folder', I cannot make netlify read the file that I myself changed, as it requests it directly from the github page.
As a solution I found from a comment to this question, we can use the "Patch-Package" to save our fixes to the node module and then use it wherever we want.
This actually worked for me!
To explain how I fixed it: (As most of it is already written in the "Patch Package DOCS), so mentioning the main points:
I first made changes to my local package files that were giving the error.(For me they were in my node_modules folder)
Then I used the Patch Package Documentation to guide my self through the rest.
It worked after I pushed my changes to github such that now, Patch Package always gives me my edited version of the node_module.
When dealing with third-party modules that use window in Gatsby you need to add a null loader to its own webpack configuration to avoid the transpilation during the SSR (Server-Side Rendering). This is because gatsby develop occurs in the browser (where there is a window) while gatsby build occurs in the Node server where obviously there isn't a window or other global objects (because they are not even defined yet).

Keep in mind that the test value is a regular expression that will match a folder under node_modules so, ensure that the /react-particle-animation/ is the right name.
Using a patch-package may work but keep in mind that you are adding an extra package, another bundled file that could potentially affect the performance of the site. The proposed snippet is a built-in solution that is fired when you build your application.

How to use dynamic imports conditionally?

I have a React app created with CRA. The app is built for two environments: website and browser extension which replaces a speed dial.
Whereas it is nice to use dynamic imports for website, it would be good to bundle some pages into main chunk, so that there is no splashscreen when opening a new tab.
Do you have any idea how to conditionally use dynamic imports basing on environment variable?
I've tried the following approach:

I expected that webpack's tree shaking would remove dead code basing on the condition, but WebsktopEager is still bundled into a main chunk, even though process.env.REACT_APP_TARGET !== 'extension'.
Based on your code, cherry-picked bundling won't happen just because process.env.REACT_APP_TARGET === 'extension' is present as you expected; because it'll only work on runtime!
So CRA will be optimistic while bundling the code, and will bundle eager imports as well.
What you can do is have two separate entry files, of sorts: For eg -
main.eager.js // containing your eager imports
main.lazy.js // containing your dynamic/lazy imports
Now have a custom webpack config to separately build the projects based on any condition, environment variables that you'd like to use. And the entry point for those bundles can be differentiated based on the above said files
But ofcourse custom webpack config would require you to execute npm run eject command. So take a look at articles about that online

Include JS module/file only in development-mode

How can I conditionally import a module only in development mode (in my case the axios-mock-adapter package). Also the code should not even be present in the production bundle.
Example code I only want to be included during development:

The code is still included in the build, however it is not executed in production mode. How is it possible to completely exlude the code from the production bundle (of course without commenting out the code before every build)?

The above example works fine. Before asking the question, I also imported the file from somewhere else, which led to this behaviour.
The accepted answer explains in detail how webpack will bundle the code & modules.
Basically:
Eject from create-react-app with npm run eject. You may be worried about the maintenance burden but it you look at the create-react-app repo you'll see there are very few meaningful changes in CRA and the upkeep with it is actually higher. If you are insistent on CRA then use craco.
Go to webpack.config.js (or craco.config.js if using craco)
Add an externals field if the app is running in production mode
Should look something like this. In this object add an externals part:
externals: isEnvProduction ? {
'myApiAdapter' : 'window' // or something else global
} : undefined,
This will map import('myApiAdapter') to window in production builds and not include it in the bundle.
That said, webpack should see the dynamic import as a point to break the bundle down into chunks, so it's unclear without seeing your actual code why it is included. Making that file external should bypass any such issues.

Why are some components in my React TS component library throwing Minified React error #321

I am building a React component library with TypeScript and webpack and I test it with webpack serve on a blank html page. Now the weird thing is that when I use the components like that every single component works perfectly fine. However if I want to use them in another project (install the library with npm) e. g. with a create-react-app a few throw a Minified React error #321. I have no idea why this is happening. Also I cant see a pattern in the Not-working components.

I've just looked at your repo and I think the problem Minified React error #321 is likely from including react/react-dom into the build your library. Then having more than one React instances after consuming project getting built.
So in order to fix you would have to exclude react/react-dom as external deps where should be included at parent project level which consumes your library.

PS: After having done above step, you might recognize your main bundle file would significantly be reduced in size as well :)

Webpack importing video.js returns an empty object

I am trying to use video.js via webpack.
I installed video.js via npm - npm install video.js --save-dev
In webpack I read that video.js should be loaded via script loader else it throws an error.
This is how I am loading video.js through the babel loader

The issue that I now face is the import is returning an empty object, so when I try to do this:

Please take a look at the loader's README before copy&pasting some random code. The script-loader is not appropiate here, because it imports scripts into the global scope while skipping the whole module system.
So, if you wanted to use the script-loader, you would just write:
import "script-loader!video.js";
console.log(videojs); // should be an object now
Usually I would not recommend the use of the script-loader because it neglects the whole point of a module system where you import stuff explicitly into the local scope. In the example above, the import happens as a side-effect into the global scope which is effectively the same as just using a <script> tag with all its downsides like name clashes, etc.
There are often better alternatives to it, like the exports-loader, which appends a module.exports at the end of the module, thus turning an old-school global script into a CommonJS module.
In this particular case, however, you don't need a loader at all because video.js is already aware of a CommonJS module system. Just write import videojs from "video.js";.
There is another minor problem, however. If you compile this with webpack, it will print a warning to the console:

Critical dependencies:
13:480-487 This seems to be a pre-built javascript file. Though this is possible, it's not recommended. Try to require the original source to get better results.

This is because webpack detects that this file has already been bundled somehow. Often it's better to include the actual src with all its tiny modules instead of one large dist because this way webpack is able to optimize the bundle in a better way. I've written down an exhaustive explanation about how to import legacy scripts with webpack.
Unfortunately, video.js does not include its src in the version deployed at npm, so you're forced to use the dist. In order to get rid of the error message and to improve webpack's build time, you can instruct webpack to skip video.js when parsing the code for require() statements by setting the module.noParse option in your webpack.config.js:
