Dots navigation for slideshow - javascript

I would like to link the dots to the corresponding slide, but I have no idea how to do it with JavaScript.
The expected result: when the user click the dot, it will jump to the corresponding slide.
These code to create a slideshow is a tutorial from W3School, here.
Below is the code, please have a look and run it:
var slideIndex = 0;
showSlides();
function showSlides() {
var i;
var slides = document.getElementsByClassName("mySlides");
var dots = document.getElementsByClassName("dot");
for (i = 0; i < slides.length; i++) {
slides[i].style.display = "none";
}
slideIndex++;
if (slideIndex > slides.length) {slideIndex = 1}
for (i = 0; i < dots.length; i++) {
dots[i].className = dots[i].className.replace(" active", "");
}
slides[slideIndex-1].style.display = "block";
dots[slideIndex-1].className += " active";
setTimeout(showSlides, 2000);
}
.mySlides {
display: none;
background-color: green;
color: white;
width: 100%;
height: 20vh;
}
.slideshow-container {
max-width: 1000px;
position: relative;
margin: auto;
}
.dot {
height: 15px;
width: 15px;
margin: 0 2px;
background-color: #bbb;
border-radius: 50%;
display: inline-block;
transition: background-color 0.6s ease;
}
.active, .dot:hover {
background-color: #717171;
}
.fade {
-webkit-animation-name: fade;
-webkit-animation-duration: 1.5s;
animation-name: fade;
animation-duration: 1.5s;
}
#keyframes fade {
from {opacity: .4}
to {opacity: 1}
}
<div class="slideshow-container">
<div class="mySlides fade">
<div class="text">Caption Text</div>
</div>
<div class="mySlides fade">
<div class="text">Caption Two</div>
</div>
<div class="mySlides fade">
<div class="text">Caption Three</div>
</div>
</div>
<div style="text-align:center">
<span class="dot"></span>
<span class="dot"></span>
<span class="dot"></span>
</div>

You can do it with the dots, but then there won't be an auto transition:
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<head>
<meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1">
<style>

body {font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; margin:0}

.slideshow-container {
max-width: 1000px;
position: relative;
margin: auto;
}
/* Next & previous buttons */
.prev, .next {
cursor: pointer;
position: absolute;
top: 50%;
width: auto;
padding: 16px;
margin-top: -22px;
color: white;
font-weight: bold;
font-size: 18px;
transition: 0.6s ease;
border-radius: 0 3px 3px 0;
user-select: none;
}
/* Position the "next button" to the right */
.next {

}
function currentSlide(n) {
showSlides(slideIndex = n);
}
function showSlides(n) {
var i;
var slides = document.getElementsByClassName("mySlides");
var dots = document.getElementsByClassName("dot");
if (n > slides.length) {slideIndex = 1}
if (n < 1) {slideIndex = slides.length}
for (i = 0; i < slides.length; i++) {
slides[i].style.display = "none";

dots[i].className = dots[i].className.replace(" active", "");
}
slides[slideIndex-1].style.display = "block";
dots[slideIndex-1].className += " active";
}
</script>
</body>
</html>
NOTE: The images aren't showing up, but the carousel component works perfectly. Here is the link to the working demo.
If you'd like both auto transition and the dots at the bottom, you should consider trying to implement a Bootstrap carousel to your project.

Image Slideshow isn't working with the following codes

I tried the following codes in my own project in VS Code. It must work on, but unfortunately, in my project, it doesn't work. I want to use these codes for the button clicking slide show. If I use the animation code with JavaScript, though it works, it is not properly sliding. I wanted to show the slides using the button click.

Try This!
Clicking on the image should work.
And Left arrow key and Right arrow key do previous and next.

Image in slider dissapear after few seconds

I'm implementing a simple image slider in my Middleman project. The images show up and the bullets are clickable. The images are linked with image_tags in Middleman. However, after an image appears it disappears after a few seconds! The only thing I could find which could have an effect on this would be the fade-in option.
After extensively looking with the inspector I couldn't find anything which causes the image not to show up.
Below my current code.
HTML
<div class="slideshow-container">
<!-- Full-width images with number and caption text -->
<div class="mySlides fade">
<div class="numbertext">1 / 3</div>
<%= image_tag "img3.jpeg", :class => "slider-img"%>
<div class="text">Caption Text</div>
</div>
<div class="mySlides fade">
<div class="numbertext">2 / 3</div>
<%= image_tag "img3.jpeg", :class => "slider-img"%>
<div class="text">Caption Two</div>
</div>
<div class="mySlides fade">
<div class="numbertext">3 / 3</div>
<%= image_tag "img3.jpeg", :class => "slider-img"%>
<div class="text">Caption Three</div>
</div>
<!-- Next and previous buttons -->
<a class="prev" onclick="plusSlides(-1)">❮</a>
<a class="next" onclick="plusSlides(1)">❯</a>
</div>

<!-- The dots/circles -->
<div style="text-align:center">

How do I make slide animation on image slideshow JS?

I have created an image slideshow using HTML and CSS I have also used some JavaScript. The slideshow doesn't slide I have only used a fade animation I would like the images to slide one by one every time I press the left or right button but I am not sure how.
Here is my current project:
var slideIndex = 1;
showSlides(slideIndex);
function plusSlides(n) {
showSlides(slideIndex += n);
}
function currentSlide(n) {
showSlides(slideIndex = n);
}
function showSlides(n) {
var i;
var slides = document.getElementsByClassName("mySlides");
var dots = document.getElementsByClassName("dot");
if (n > slides.length) {slideIndex = 1}
if (n < 1) {slideIndex = slides.length}
for (i = 0; i < slides.length; i++) {
slides[i].style.display = "none";

I would like the images to slide every time the buttons are pressed using JavaScript. I would like an actual slide effect from left to right, not a fading effect like I have done.

JQuery : remove current div in image slider

I have an image slider to change between images, With two buttons, the first adds an item to the slider, the second removes the current image from the slider but does not work.
How can I make the remove item button remove the current item from the slider?
var slideIndex = 1;
showSlides(slideIndex);
function plusSlides(n) {
showSlides(slideIndex += n);
}
function currentSlide(n) {
showSlides(slideIndex = n);
}
function showSlides(n) {
var i;
var slides = document.getElementsByClassName("mySlides");
var dots = document.getElementsByClassName("dot");
if (n > slides.length) { slideIndex = 1 }
if (n < 1) { slideIndex = slides.length }
for (i = 0; i < slides.length; i++) {
slides[i].style.display = "none";
}
for (i = 0; i < dots.length; i++) {
dots[i].className = dots[i].className.replace(" active", "");
}
slides[slideIndex - 1].style.display = "block";
dots[slideIndex - 1].className += " active";
}

I have edited your code to remove active slide. But this may cause errors when your list get exhausted as method you have used for sliding is not proper. You need to track current slide by setting index as data-attr and retrive index on button click.ie index of slide should created for dynamic slides also which may be auto incremented.
var slideIndex = 1;
showSlides(slideIndex);
function plusSlides(n) {
showSlides(slideIndex += n);
}
function currentSlide(n) {
showSlides(slideIndex = n);
}
function showSlides(n) {
var i;
var slides = document.getElementsByClassName("mySlides");
var dots = document.getElementsByClassName("dot");
if (n > slides.length) { slideIndex = 1 }
if (n < 1) { slideIndex = slides.length }
for (i = 0; i < slides.length; i++) {
slides[i].style.display = "none";
}
for (i = 0; i < dots.length; i++) {
dots[i].className = dots[i].className.replace(" active", "");
}
slides[slideIndex - 1].style.display = "block";
slides[slideIndex - 1].className += " active";
slides[slideIndex - 1].id=slideIndex;
dots[slideIndex - 1].className += " active";

All these 3 codes are in different files. This is basically for the creation of a simple slideshow of three images. But when I execute this(all in different files) there is nothing to display(white screen in the browser). But when executed in a single html file(all contents in a single file) there is a perfect slideshow.
I cannot figure out this problem. Please help me out with this.
This doesn't seem right :
<script src="learn1.js"</script>
You forgot to close the opening tag, as such :
<script src="learn1.js"></script>
Plus, it's always a good habit to specify your resource type :
<script type="text/javascript" src="learn1.js"></script>
The code you posted seems to work just fine.
Maybe the image files isn't where you say they are?
Try opening the console and look for errors.
