Make the Webpack React Fast Refresh plugin ignore linting errors - javascript

I am using this plugin for HMR: https://www.npmjs.com/package/#pmmmwh/react-refresh-webpack-plugin.
How can I stop it from preventing the page from displaying for non-breaking errors?
For example linting issues.
My setup is pretty much copied from their example:
const ReactRefreshWebpackPlugin = require('#pmmmwh/react-refresh-webpack-plugin');
const webpack = require('webpack');
// ... your other imports
const isDevelopment = process.env.NODE_ENV !== 'production';
module.exports = {
// It is suggested to run both `react-refresh/babel` and the plugin in the `development` mode only,
// even though both of them have optimisations in place to do nothing in the `production` mode.
// If you would like to override Webpack's defaults for modes, you can also use the `none` mode -
// you then will need to set `forceEnable: true` in the plugin's options.
mode: isDevelopment ? 'development' : 'production',
module: {
rules: [
// ... other rules
{
test: /\.[jt]sx?$/,
exclude: /node_modules/,
use: [
// ... other loaders
{
loader: require.resolve('babel-loader'),
options: {
// ... other options
plugins: [
// ... other plugins
isDevelopment && require.resolve('react-refresh/babel'),
].filter(Boolean),
},
},
],
},
],
},
plugins: [
// ... other plugins
isDevelopment && new webpack.HotModuleReplacementPlugin(),
isDevelopment && new ReactRefreshWebpackPlugin(),
].filter(Boolean),
// ... other configuration options
};

I missed this in the API docs:
new ReactRefreshWebpackPlugin({ overlay: false })

I have tried following some of guidance about uninstalling/reinstalling webpack, unintstalled both ubuntu and kali linux etc. but no joy. Any advice would be appreciated.

React webpack error Runtime loading of image

I'm trying to load image at runtime in my react component.
The images are stored inside src/assets folder
var bg=require('../../../assets/plot1.jpg');
return(
<div style ={ { backgroundImage: "url("+bg+")"} }> </div>
);
This code works and loads the image. however I want to get the image path at runtime. so if i change my code as below
var bg=require(props.bgImg);
where the value of props.bgImg is ../../../assets/plot1.jpg. Then i get below error

You're loading the image path dynamically, but in runtime and depending on your webpack config, your assets' paths in the bundle can be different from what's in your code.
Here's the default url-loader config in webpack for apps created by create-react-app:
{
test: [/\.bmp$/, /\.gif$/, /\.jpe?g$/, /\.png$/],
loader: require.resolve('file-loader'),
options: {
name: 'static/media/[name].[hash:8].[ext]',
},
},
As you can see, files matching test will end up in static/media/[name].[hash:8].[ext]. So your background image will be saved as static/media/plot1.<some-hash>.jpg, which is different from the path you're passing to require via props, i.e. ../../../assets/plot1.jpg.
In the first case (var bg=require('../../../assets/plot1.jpg')), webpack sees the path, discovers the image, transforms its path, and assings the transformed path to bg. In the second case, the value of props.bg is unknown at compile time, so webpack doesn't handle it, which your image might not end up in the assets, or if it's there, it's path is not known to your runtime code. The main point is your code shouldn't rely on values that will be modified by bundlers like webpack during the transpile process.
You can put your image paths in an object that is processed by webpack, and then refer to the keys of that object to get the correct image. Here's an example:
Put this some where outside of your components, maybe in a config file or your entry point, wherever that makes the most sense:
const IMAGES = {
bg1: require('<path-to-bg1>'),
bg2: require('<path-to-bg2>'),
...
}
And then in the component:
const App = (props) => {
return <div style={{backgroundImage: "url(" + IMAGES[props.bgImg] + ")"}}>...</div>
}
Needless to say, you need to update your props to pass a key from IMAGES, instead of image paths.

Webpack: issue with breakpoints and mapping in typescript - breakpoints automatically moves at the end of file on debug

After I've updated webpack from 3.11.0 to 4.6.0, breakpoints in Angular Typescript started moving automatically at the end of the file during debug.
If I stop debug, they returns where I've placed them.
EXAMPLE (which will explain the situation better than my intro above)
If I have - for example - a .ts file of 100 lines and I set a
breakpoint on typescript on Visual Studio at line 50, when I run my
app debug, the breakpoints moves automatically at the end of the file
(so at line 100). When I stop debug, it returns on line 50.
The issue started when I've updated Webpack to last version and seems like to be related to sourcemap.
I share with you my webpack.config.js content below. After the code snippet, I will also tell you what I've changed from 3.11.0 to 4.6.0.
Can anyone help me to solving this?
P.S.: I've kept the default line that enable in-line sourcemaps if you delete or comment it in the config file (see comment Remove this line if you prefer inline source maps in my code below) because using in-line sourcemaps on typescript literally kills my computer.

WHAT CHANGED BETWEEN VERSIONS
webpack.config.js
1. - moved uglify from plugins to optimization, but copy-pasting this configuration from the internet. (Maybe the issue is related to this?)
optimization: {
minimizer: [
// specify a custom UglifyJsPlugin here to get source maps in production
new UglifyJsPlugin({
cache: true,
parallel: true,
uglifyOptions: {
compress: false,
ecma: 6,
mangle: true
},
sourceMap: true
})
]
},
2. - removed AOT webpack plugin from production environment configuration
Solved by disabling browser link in Visual Studio 2017.
Also set "sourcemap:true" on tsconfig.

How to further optimize webpack bundle size

So I was able to reduce my bundle size from 13mb to 6.81mb
I did some optimizations like proper production configurations, optimizing libraries like lodash and replacing momentjs with date-fns.
Now got to a point where most packages do not exceed 1mb and most of them are dependencies installed by npm.
Using webpack-bundle-analyzer here is what my bundle looks like now
So do you guys think I can do something more to reduce the bundle size?
Maybe remove jquery and go vanilla js? But then it's only 1mb... Is there something I can do to significantly optimize the size?
Some more details if you'd like
This is how do my build NODE_ENV=production webpack

Your problem is that you are including the devtool: 'eval-source-map' even when you run webpack production command. This will include the sourcemaps inside your final bundle. So, to remove it, you can do the following:
var config = {
//... you config here
// Remove devtool and devServer server options from here
}
if(process.env.NODE_ENV === 'production') { //Prod
config.plugins.push(
new webpack.DefinePlugin({'process.env.NODE_ENV': JSON.stringify('production')}),
new OptimizeCSSAssets(),
/* The comments: false will remove the license comments of your libs
and you will obtain a real single line file as output */
new webpack.optimize.UglifyJsPlugin({output: {comments: false}}),
);
} else { //Dev
config.devServer = {
contentBase: path.resolve(__dirname, './public'),
historyApiFallback: true,
inline: true,
open: true
};
config.devtool = 'eval-source-map';
}
module.exports = config

Vue in DEV mode in production environment

Version
2.5.13

https://jsfiddle.net/esrgxLfu/
Description
I have a PHP application which uses Vue JS mainly for the settings page. All of settings is created with Vue and we use Webpack. Everything works fine and when we are in the live version there is no console error about Vue being in development mode. We use Vue also for only one component on the dashboard page. It is a Vue TODO list like the one in the Vue documentation. On the dashboard page, we get the console message that Vue is in development mode. We use same Webpack for dashboard and settings page hence the same settings.
I have looked for hours to try to find an answer but I have not been successful which is why I am creating this issue.
In the php file we have this to place the vue component in:
<div id="vue-tasks"></div>
and then we included the javascript file plus the variables.
You can see everything that's being used in the fiddle but I really don't think I can make this reproducible, I'm sorry if you cannot help me with this but it is using a bunch of stuff from PHP Symfony and twig so I was not sure what I could do.
What is expected?
Vue to be in production mode.
What is actually happening?
Vue is in dev environment.

Also this is the message I get in console.
You are running Vue in development mode. Make sure to turn on
production mode when deploying for production. See more tips at
https://vuejs.org/guide/deployment.html
It looks like you are picking Vue up using a browser script tag rather than as part of a bundle from your build system.
Altering this to link to a production version of Vue will resolve the issue. In your jsfiddle, for example, replace the script link with https://unpkg.com/vue/dist/vue.min.js.
