Creating bidimesional array in javascript [duplicate] - javascript

So i want to create a chess board by doing a bidemensional array (array in array) but when i try creating it, the array comes out like [0,1] [0,2].... when i would like for it to be [[0,1,2,3...],[0,1,2,3...]...] i dont know if im making myself clear but here is the code, hopefully someone can tell me what am i doing wrong
generarTablero = (tablero) => {
for (var i = 0; i < 8; i++) {
// tablero.push([i])
for (let j = 0; j < 8; j++) {
tablero.push([i, j])
}
}
return tablero
}
generarTablero(tablero);
console.log(tablero)

Just push on each array[i] like this,
generarTablero = (tablero) => {
for (var i = 0; i < 8; i++) {
tablero[i] = [];
for (let j = 0; j < 8; j++) {
tablero[i].push(j)
}
}
return tablero
}
tablero = generarTablero([]);
console.log(tablero)

You're pushing all the elements to a separate array (tablero.push([i, j])).
What you're trying to do, is to create a separate array for each 'row'. Using a tmp array variable, your code could look something like this:
generarTablero = () => {
let arr = [];
for (var i = 0; i < 8; i++) {
let tmp = [];
for (let j = 0; j < 8; j++) {
tmp.push(j);
}
arr.push(tmp);
}
return arr;
}
const tablero = generarTablero();
console.log(tablero)
Of course this could be simplified, using the index instead of a tmp array.

I want to predefine the 2d-array containing an array of objects like this below image:
I am trying this way:

In your code you're building up the two-dimensional array, but you are filling the rows with numbers (i.e. your setting the count) instead of an array of objects. So if you want to achieve the exact same structure as provided in the screenshot, you can do:
const rows = 4;
const cols = 4;
const elementCount = 3;
function buildGrid(rows,cols, elementCount) {
const grid = [];
for(let i=0; i < rows; i++) {
grid[i] = [];
for(let j=0; j < cols; j++) {
grid[i].push(Array.from({length:elementCount}, () => ({})));
}
}
return grid;

const grid = buildGrid(rows,cols,elementCount);
console.log(grid);

Working with a problem of pushing nested arrays to an empty array

I'm working with the problem below:
You are provided with an empty array called nestedArr. Using a for loop starting at index 0, add 5 subarrays to nestedArr, with each nested array containing the string 'loop' concatenated with the corresponding index in nestedArr as its first element, and the index as its second element.
Example of a subarray: ['loop3', 3].
This is what I've tried
const nestedArr = [];
for (var i = 0; i < 5; i++) {
nestedArr[i] = []
for(var j = 0; j < 2; j++) {
nestedArr[i][j] = 'loop'+[i], i
}
}
console.log(nestedArr)
It gives me [['loop0', 'loop0'], ['loop1', 'loop1'], ['loop2', 'loop2'], ['loop3', 'loop3'], ['loop4', 'loop4']]
Can't figure out how to have it in this format: ['loop3', 3].
Please guide me!
You can just construct the array literally or use a ternary operator to check the first index in the inner loop and concatenate the string loop

Create and initialize bidimensional array in javascript

I am trying to create and initialize a bidimensional array in javascript inside an AngularJS application as follows:
$scope.invalidVote = [];
for (var i = 0; i < $scope.arry1.length; i += 1) {
$scope.answersCount[i] = $scope.arry1[i].arry2.length;
for(var j = 0; j < $scope.arry1[i].arry2.length; j += 1) {
$scope.invalidVote[i][j] = false;
}
}
But it doesn't work, What is the right way to do that?

I'm assuming $scope.arry1[i] is an array that contain other arrays and is already fill with values.
So your code should look like:
$scope.invalidVote = $scope.arry1;
for (var i = 0; i < $scope.arry1.length; i += 1)
{
$scope.answersCount[i] = $scope.arry1[i].length;
for(var j = 0; j < $scope.arry1[i].length; j += 1)
{
$scope.invalidVote[i][j] = false;

'$scope.invalidVote = $scope.arry1;' declaring "invalidVote" like this ensure it contains the same amount of indexes.

Efficient way to turn a string to a 2d array in Javascript

I need to check from a string, if a given fruit has the correct amount at a given date. I am turning the string into a 2d array and iterating over the columns.This code works, but I want to know : is there a better way to do it? I feel like this could be done avoiding 4 for loops.

This would be a good candidate for Array.prototype.map
var data = "Date,Apple,Pear\n2015/04/05,2,3\n2015/04/06,8,6"
var parsedData = data.split("\n").map(function(row){return row.split(",");})
What map does is iterate over an array and applies a projection function on each element returning a new array as the result.
You can visualize what is happening like this:
function projection(csv){ return csv.split(",");}
var mappedArray = [projection("Date,Apple,Pear"),projection("2015/04/05,2,3"),projection("2015/04/06,8,6")];

Making an nth Dimensional Array in JavaScript

The following code will generate 10 arrays, each with 10 subarrays, each with 10 subarrays, each with 10 subarrays.
paths = [];
for (var i = 0, len_i = 10; i < len_i; ++i) { // 1st dimension
paths.push([]);
for (var j = 0, len_j = 10; j < len_j; ++j) { // 2nd dimension
paths[i].push([]);

for (var l = 0, len_l = 10; l < len_l; ++l) { // 4th dimension
paths[i][j][k].push([]);

I will eventually need to do this with more dimensions and am curious to know if any ingenious developers out there can accomplish this with a function of the form:
function makePaths(quantityInEachArray, dimensions) {
paths = [];
quantityInEachArray = (typeof quantityInEachArray === "undefined") ? 10 : quantityInEachArray;
dimensions = (typeof dimensions === "undefined") ? 4 : dimensions;
// Do some magic
return paths;
}
That function, in its default form, would return the same thing as the for loops I demonstrated above.
I understand that this is not a standard practice but I am doing it for a very specific reason and need to test the performance of it.
How do I modify this code to produce nth dimensional arrays?
You can use recursive function:
function nthArray(n, l) {
if(n < 1) return;
var arr = new Array(l);
for(var i=0; i<l; ++i)
arr[i] = nthArray(n-1, l);
return arr;
}
A simple magic would be (without recursion):
paths = []
arrays = [paths]
for (var i = 0; i < dimensions; i++) {
tmpArr = []
for (var k = 0; k < arrays.length; k++) {
for (var j = 0; j < size; j++) {
val = []
tmpArr.push(val)
arrays[k].push(val)
}
}
arrays = tmpArr
}
(I am not very fluent in javascript, you probably need to declare vars at the beginning and every thing, but that's the idea)
