Why am I getting json response page after ajax post call? - javascript

I have an aps.net MVC5 web app, I have a controller action post method that looks like this,
[HttpPost]
[ValidateAntiForgeryToken]
public ActionResult Set(int id)
{
DbHelper dbHelper = new DbHelper();
dbHelper.Update<News>("update news set ispublished = 1, publishdate = #PublishDate where newsid = #NewsId", new { NewsId = id, PublishDate = DateTime.Now });
return Json(new { success = true, message = "added successfully!", redirectToUrl = Url.Action("NewsList", "Home") }, JsonRequestBehavior.AllowGet);
}
Now, when I call this method from my View ,
$(document).on("click", ".set", function () {
var mId = $(this).attr("data-model-id");
$.ajax({
url: "#Url.Action("Set","Home")",
data: { "id": mId },
contentType: 'application/json',
type: 'POST',
dataType:'json',
success: function (response) {
if (response.success) {
window.location.href = response.redirectToUrl;
dt.ajax.reload();
$.notify(data.message, {
globalPosition: "top center",
className: "success"
});
}
},
error: function (response) {
$.notify(response.message, {
globalPosition: "top center",
className: "success"
});
}
});
});
I am always getting this enter image description here
I expect to be redirected to home/newslist url. I tried changing all the parameters of ajax call , adding and removing them, still no matter what I do, I always land at this page.

Try to check after remove the "error" function from your ajax. Also you can try this:
$(document).on("click", ".set", function () {
var mId = $(this).attr("data-model-id");
$.ajax({
url: "#Url.Action("Set","Home")",
data: { "id": mId },
contentType: 'application/json',
type: 'POST',
dataType:'json',
success: function (response) {
if (response.success) {
window.location.href = response.redirectToUrl;
dt.ajax.reload();
$.notify(data.message, {
globalPosition: "top center",
className: "success"
});
}
},
error: function (jqXHR, textStatus, errorThrown) {
$.notify(errorThrown, {
globalPosition: "top center",
className: "success"
});
}
});
});
Check if success function is calling or not.

If you need return the full HTML page in ajax response then you need to change Controller method with some changes.
[HttpPost]
[ValidateAntiForgeryToken]
public ActionResult Set(int id)
{
DbHelper dbHelper = new DbHelper();
dbHelper.Update<News>("update news set ispublished = 1, publishdate = #PublishDate where newsid = #NewsId", new { NewsId = id, PublishDate = DateTime.Now });
//return Json(new { success = true, message = "added successfully!", redirectToUrl = Url.Action("NewsList", "Home") }, JsonRequestBehavior.AllowGet);
return view("ViewName");
}

AJAX Post call no data

Hello wenn i want to send a post request to my Controller there is no data.
I tried to log my Json file and there is something. But when I send the post request my controller shows it is empty.
Here is my call:
var item = {};
var jsonObj = [];
item["ProductCategoryId"] = i;
item["Name"] = txtName;
item["Description"] = txtDescription;
item["Price"] = txtPrice;
item["Stock"] = txtStock;
item["ProductCategory"] = txtProductCategory;
item["Image"] = await getAsByteArray(txtImage);
jsonObj.push(item);
var jsonString = JSON.stringify(jsonObj);
console.log("jsonString : " + jsonString);
$.ajax({
url: "/Admin/SaveProductToDB",
type: "POST",
data: { dataToSend: jsonString},
success: function (data) {
if (data.status == "Success") {
BootstrapDialog.show({
title: 'Success!',
message: "Data Updated Successfully!",
buttons: [{
label: 'OK',
action: function (dialog) {
window.location.href = "/Admin/Product";
removeProdData(i);
$("#btnAddProd").attr("disabled",false);
dialog.close();
}
}]
});
}
}
});
//Here I make a breakpoint but my string is empty
public JsonResult SaveProductToDB(string dataToSend)
{
List<Product> _List = Newtonsoft.Json.JsonConvert.DeserializeObject<List<Product>>(dataToSend);
}
the getAsByteArray
async function getAsByteArray(file) {
return new Uint8Array(await readFile(file))
}
function readFile(file) {
return new Promise((resolve, reject) => {
// Create file reader
let reader = new FileReader()
// Register event listeners
reader.addEventListener("loadend", e => resolve(e.target.result))
reader.addEventListener("error", reject)
// Read file
reader.readAsArrayBuffer(file)
})
}
I found out if I remove the Image. that the controller is then able to resize it. Thanks for the help so far. So I need to look at this place where the problem is.
You are checking against data.status as if it's a given that it exists. Just console.log(data) instead and you will see whether or not status is being returned.
Also, if you open the Network tab in Chrome you can click on the post request & see if your headers are going through accurately and also click on 'Preview' to see an unfiltered result from the controller.
You might want to modify your code to catch errors for debugging, ie:
$.ajax({
url: "/Admin/SaveProductToDB",
type: "POST",
data: { dataToSend: jsonString},
success: function (data) {
if (data.status == "Success") {
BootstrapDialog.show({
title: 'Success!',
message: "Data Updated Successfully!",
buttons: [{
label: 'OK',
action: function (dialog) {
window.location.href = "/Admin/Product";
removeProdData(i);
$("#btnAddProd").attr("disabled",false);
dialog.close();
}
}]
});
}
},
error:function (xhr, ajaxOptions, thrownError) {
// Set up whatever error reaction you want, here. ie:
console.log('An error was encountered.');
alert(xhr.status);
alert(thrownError);
}
});
Another tip is to validate empty data being submitted prior to the Ajax call, so you only touch the backend server when your data is valid - to avoid an error.

How to set serialization in Asp .Net Core

Im getting the following error on my Ajax post back {"readyState":0,"status":0,"statusText":"error"}
on my first ajax call but the second one returns data I want.
My C# method (UserSelect) JsonResults shows the data when I put break point
My C# code :
public IActionResult OnPostAreaSelect(string Id)
{
//Generating list for Areas
Guid ModelId = new Guid(Id);
List<ModelArea> modelAreas = _context.ModelArea.Distinct()
.Where(w => w.ModelId == ModelId).OrderBy(o => o.AreaColumn.Name).Include(i => i.AreaColumn).ToList();
return new JsonResult(modelAreas);
}
public IActionResult OnPostUserSelect(string Id)
{
//Generating list for Users
Guid ModelId = new Guid(Id);
List<UserModel> userModels = _context.UserModel
.Where(w => w.ModelId == ModelId).OrderBy(o => o.User.FullName)
.Include(i => i.User)
.ToList();
return new JsonResult(userModels);
}
My JavaScript :
<script type="text/javascript">
$(document).ready(function () {
$("#RepfocusModelDropdown").change(function () {
var Id = $(this).val();
if (Id != null) {
$.ajax({
async: true,
type: "POST",
url: "./Create?handler=UserSelect",
beforeSend: function (xhr) {
xhr.setRequestHeader("XSRF-TOKEN",
$('input:hidden[name="__RequestVerificationToken"]').val());
},
data: {
Id: Id
},
crossDomain: true,
dataType: "json",
success: function (response) {
alert(JSON.stringify(response));
},
error: function (response) {
alert(JSON.stringify(response));
}
});
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
url: "./Create?handler=AreaSelect",
beforeSend: function (xhr) {
xhr.setRequestHeader("XSRF-TOKEN",
$('input:hidden[name="__RequestVerificationToken"]').val());
},
data: {
Id: Id
},
dataType: "json",
success: function (response) {
alert(JSON.stringify(response));
},
error: function (response) {
alert(JSON.stringify(response));
}
});
}
})
})
The second ajax call on my script works fine only the first one returns the error
How can I solve the error
When you work with EntityFramework (or other ORM) there may be problems with serialization because an entity could have some circular references. To avoid this problem a solution is to set serialization settings:
services.AddMvc().AddJsonOptions(opt => {
opt.SerializerSettings.ReferenceLoopHandling = Newtonsoft.Json.ReferenceLoopHandling.Ignore;
});
or:
Newtonsoft.Json.JsonConvert.DefaultSettings = () => new Newtonsoft.Json.JsonSerializerSettings {
ReferenceLoopHandling = Newtonsoft.Json.ReferenceLoopHandling.Ignore
};

Ajax call showing error cant debug

this is how the javascript looks like
<script type="text/javascript">
$(document).ready(function () {
$('#loginButton').click(function () {
//this.disabled = true;
debugger;
var data = {
"userid": $("#username").val(),
"password": $("#password").val()
};
$.ajax({
url: "/Account/LoginPost",
type: "POST",
data: JSON.stringify(data),
dataType: "json",
contentType: "application/json",
success: function (response) {
if (response.Success) {
$.get("#Url.Action("Search", "Home")", function (data) {
$('.container').html(data);
});
}
else
window.location.href = "#Url.Action("Index", "Home")";
},
error: function () {
alert('Login Fail!!!');
}
});
});
});
I am getting the alert('Login fail') also debugger not getting hit.
I am using jquery 1.9.1 and have included unobstrusive
my controller is this as you can i am passing string values not object values
to the controller so stringify is justified here
[HttpPost]
public JsonResult LoginPost(string userid, string password)
{
using (someentities wk = new someentities())
{
var LoginUser = wk.tblUsers.Where(a => a.Username.Equals(userid)&&a.Password.Equals(password)).FirstOrDefault();
if (LoginUser != null)
{
FormsAuthentication.SetAuthCookie(userid,false);
Session["Username"] = LoginUser.Username;
Session["Password"] = LoginUser.Password;
Session["Name"] = LoginUser.Name;
return Json(new { Success = true }, JsonRequestBehavior.AllowGet);
}
else
{
TempData["Login"] = "Please Enter Correct Login Details";
return Json(new { Success = false }, JsonRequestBehavior.AllowGet);
}
}
// If we got this far, something failed, redisplay form
}
when page is loading these error are shown
$(..) live is not a valid function in
(anonymous function) # jquery.unobtrusive-ajax.js:115
(anonymous function) # jquery.unobtrusive-ajax.js:163
take a look to the success function
success: function (response) {
if (response.Success) {
$.get("#Url.Action("Search", "Home")", function (data) {
$('.container').html(data);
});
}
else
window.location.href = "#Url.Action("Index", "Home")";
}
you are using multiple ", combine it with the single one ', this is a syntax error, try to check the code on an editor such as Atom, to avoid this kind of errors
Stringify converts an object to a string. Have you tried passing data an object instead of a string? Try replacing JSON.stringify(data), with data?

Dotnetnuke Call ajax from a module

I am now trying to build a dnn module using ajax calls. But there is a jquery error stating
SyntaxError: Unexpected token <
I have tried to work around with ajax "url: " and tried to create a new ascx at the root folder but still showing error 404.
My ajax call is as below
$.ajax({
url: "NewsManagement.ascx/Add",
contentType: "application/json; charset=utf-8",
dataType: "json",
method: "POST",
beforeSend: function () {
},
cache: false,
data: {
title : $('#txt_Title').val(),
news_content : $('#txt_Content').val(),
image : $('#file_Image').val(),
chapter_id : $('#sel_Chapter').val(),
is_draft : $('#chk_Draft').val(),
posted_date : $('#dp_PostDate').val(),
created_by : "",
lastupdate_by : ""
},
success: function (data) {
console.log(data);
if (data == "success") {
console.log(data);
}
else {
initMdlError("SERVER : " + data);
}
},
error: function (data, textStatus, error) {
// ERROR IS BEING CALLED FROM HERE
console.log("JQUERY JAVASCRIPT : " + error);
initMdlError(error);
},
complete: function () {
console.log('complete');
}
});
<script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.11.1/jquery.min.js"></script>
Is there any way to solve the issues?
The problem you're running into is that DNN isn't handling the requested URL properly that you are calling. If you want to call a service URL in DNN you're going to want to setup routes to handle the calls.
namespace Christoc.Com.Modules.SlidePresentation.services
{
public class SlidePresentationRouteMapper : IServiceRouteMapper
{
public void RegisterRoutes(IMapRoute mapRouteManager)
{
mapRouteManager.MapRoute("SlidePresentation", "{controller}.ashx/{action}",
new[] {"Christoc.Com.Modules.SlidePresentation.services"});
}
}
}
In the Controller you can define the methods available
[DnnAuthorize(AllowAnonymous = true)]
public ActionResult ListOfSlides()
{
try
{
var slides = Slide.GetSlides(ActiveModule.TabID, ActiveModule.ModuleID);
return Json(slides, JsonRequestBehavior.AllowGet);
}
catch (Exception exc)
{
DnnLog.Error(exc);
return Json(null, JsonRequestBehavior.AllowGet);
}
}
https://slidepresentation.codeplex.com/SourceControl/latest#DesktopModules/SlidePresentation/services/SlidePresentationController.cs
sample Javascript
//get slides on initialization
this.init = function(element) {
//var data = {}; //removed because we don't need this
//data.moduleId = moduleId; //removed because we don't need this when calling setModuleHeaders
//data.tabId = tabId; //removed because we don't need this
//serviceFramework.getAntiForgeryProperty(); //removed because we don't need this
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
cache: false,
url: baseServicePath + 'ListOfSlides',
//data: data,
//dataType:"json",
beforeSend: serviceFramework.setModuleHeaders
}).done(function(data) {
viewModel.slides = ko.utils.arrayMap(data, function(s) {
return new slide(s);
});
ko.applyBindings(viewModel);
$(element).jmpress();
}).fail(function () {
Console.Log('Sorry failed to load Slides');
});
};
Here's an example module that does this

And a user group video I did years ago on this module.

Select2 AJAX is not working

Here is the web method, which I use before for another thing, and it works:
[WebMethod]
public static string GetTests()
{
return GetData().GetXml();
}
public static DataSet GetData()
{
DataSet ds = new DataSet();
BusinessLayer.StudentsController oStudent = new BusinessLayer.StudentsController();
oStudent.Action = "page";
oStudent.PageIndex = 0;
oStudent.PageSize = int.Parse(System.Configuration.ConfigurationManager.AppSettings["PageSize"].ToString());
DataTable dt1 = oStudent.Select();
DataTable dt2 = dt1.Copy();
dt2.TableName = "Students";
ds.Tables.Add(dt2);
DataTable dt = new DataTable("PageCount");
dt.Columns.Add("PageCount");
dt.Rows.Add();
dt.Rows[0][0] = oStudent.PageCount;
ds.Tables.Add(dt);
return ds;
}
JavaScript:
$('#selectDynamic1').select2({
placeholder: "Search for a movie",
minimumInputLength: 1,
multiple: true,
ajax: {
url: "Default.aspx/GetTests",
type: 'POST',
params: {
contentType: 'application/json; charset=utf-8'
},
dataType: 'json',
data: function (term, page) {
return JSON.stringify({ q: term, page_limit: 10 });
},
results: function (data) {
return {results: data};
},
},
formatResult: formatResult,
formatSelection: formatSelection,
/*initSelection: function(element, callback) {
var data = [];
$(element.val().split(",")).each(function(i) {
var item = this.split(':');
data.push({
id: item[0],
title: item[1]
});
});
//$(element).val('');
callback(data);
}*/
});
function formatResult(node) {
alert('');
return '<div>' + node.id + '</div>';
};
function formatSelection(node) {
alert('');
return node.id;
};
Please help, GetTests is not even firing, I want to bring the student through SQL then fill the select2.
First, you shoul ry to change the HTTP verb to GET, as you are not posting data to the server, you want to get data from it:
ajax: {
...
type: 'GET',
...
}
Secondly, you are expecting JSON from the server, but in the GetData method, you are creating an XML document - at least the code conveys this. This may be one cause, why your code does not work.
