How do you create a modal in electron js? (javascript, html, css) - javascript

Rather, I need help in creating a modal. Use this video for reference:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gLWIYk0Sd38
I followed this tutorial but I can't make my button work. I do not know what is the problem and it is driving me crazy.

Refer to the javascript code that the video maker created. Is it possible to even use that code for electron projects?

An example of showing a dialog to select multiple files:
const { dialog } = require('electron')
console.log(dialog.showOpenDialog(
{ properties: ['openFile', 'multiSelections'] }))
The Dialog is opened from Electron's main thread. If you want to use the dialog object from a renderer process, remember to access it using the remote:
const { dialog } = require('electron').remote
console.log(dialog)

querySelector doesn't find part of the document

I'm trying to make a simple close button for my electron application.
But for some reason document.querySelector('*') doesn't work for the top bar of my application..
And even if I manage to select specifically the div that is in charge of the close button, the click event listen doesn't fire..
here is my main.js:
const path = require('path')
require('electron-reload')(__dirname);
const createWindow = () =>{
const win = new BrowserWindow({
width: 400, // width = 400
height: 600, // height = 600
frame: false,
opacity: 0.98,
webPreferences: {
preload: path.join(__dirname, 'preload.js')
}
})
//win.webContents.openDevTools();
win.setResizable(false);
win.loadFile('index.html')
// add button check
ipcMain.on('exit-app', () => {
console.log('clicked on something')
})
}
app.whenReady().then(() => {
createWindow()
})
app.on('window-all-closed', () => {

Change Cursor on Draggable region in Electron
Unfortunately setting -webkit-app-region: drag; disables all click and mouse events because it's treated as a title-bar so you can't change the cursor.
I would include where I read that but I can't find it anymore.
See:
#1354 -webkit-app-region: drag eats all click events
#8730 Frameless Electron App not work css cursor:pointer
So apparently after removing -webkit-app-region: drag the issue was fixed and all mouse events worked like magic !

Hovering refuses to work when another element is on top

By the way, this is coming from a beginner coder, so don't expect any great amount of organization. I may have missed something obvious.
I couldn't get it to work here as a snippet (for security reasons, it won't allow images to be loaded, not even showing the failing to load icon), so I made a copy of it here.
The issue is that, while hovering over a folder, it works fine, but when I begin hovering over the menu that pops up while hovering over the folder, it starts flashing rapidly. Yes, the menu is supposed to delete itself when the user stops hovering over the folder and show when the user hovers over the folder.

Div changes size once another div is loaded?

So, i am having an issue with a div, when another div is generated (via javascript) below it, it is changing the size of the div.
// for the side nav message list

document.getElementById("message-list").channelId = chat.chat.id
}
chatBodyParent.id = `chat-body-${chat.chat.id}`

chatBody.className = "chat-body"

Here is an image before the chat list is loaded
Then menu is loaded with the correct size and margin
pre-load
after the chat list loads, it changes the width or margin of the div above some how, and im not sure how or why its doing that, but i cant figure it out, heres an image of after the chat list is loaded post-load
i have tried different margins and positioning settings but cant seem to get it to work, any help is greatly appreciated :)
edit: One possible solution may be to change the css with javascript every time the chat list is loaded, but i would like to avoid that if at all possible.
OK, so i figured out the issue, the issue occurs when enough elements pop up to trigger the scrollbar, so the fix for me was this
::-webkit-scrollbar {
display: none;
}
Because i want a user to beable to scroll, but i dont want there to be a scrollbar, My next plan is to make this static, so that it doesnt move on scroll at all. Still the issue was arising when my (invisible scroll bar, that still had a width) was appearing. Gotta watch out for hidden elements.

Chrome extension State management

I am currently making a chrome extension (This is my first chrome extension) that you can take small notes with and want to keep the user input. I am keeping the user input inside of input classes. How would I be able to store the chrome extension state so that when I reopen it, it will stay the same? Here is the code that I have written so far.
//selectors
const addbutton = document.querySelector(".add");
const addlist = document.querySelector(".note-list");
const noteList = document.querySelector(".note-list")
//event listners
addbutton.addEventListener('click', addNote);
//functions
function addNote(event){
//prevent page refresh
event.preventDefault();
//note div
const noteDiv = document.createElement('div');
noteDiv.classList.add('note');
//create li
const newNote = document.createElement('li');
newNote.classList.add('noteitem');
noteDiv.appendChild(newNote);
//create input
const newInput = document.createElement('input');
newInput.classList.add('noteInput')
newNote.appendChild(newInput);
//append to list
noteList.appendChild(noteDiv);
}
#import url('https://fonts.googleapis.com/css2?family=Montserrat:wght#500&display=swap');

// uses local storage
chrome.storage.local.set({key: value}, function() {

});
// uses synced storage, hits Chrome backend when being set
chrome.storage.sync.set({key: value}, function() {

});
// to retrieve the data, use 'sync' instead of 'local' if using sync
chrome.storage.local.get(['key'], function(result) {
console.log('Value currently is ' + result.key);
});
You'll still need to figure out how you want to organize the note data. For example, you could store all of the notes in an array on the notes key that looks like the following:
{
notes: [
{ id: 1, body: 'First note' },
{ id: 2, body: 'Second note' }
]
}
you have two options :-
you can use localStorage just like in web page for more check here
you can use chrome.storage for more check here

Disallow Interaction With Website During Animations

I am attempting to write some javascript that will create textareas and when you click on a textarea to begin typing it grows and centers in the window until you click off of it where it shrinks back down.
Easy enough, until I wanted to add the .animate() and suddenly I have some serious problems that I am pouring too much time into trying to figure out.
While running some quality assurance I discovered a number of bugs...
-If I drop focus on the textarea that is animating its growth while it is still animating then the .blur() function fails to call.
-If I shift focus to another textarea while the first is still animating
then both may remain large failing to call the .blur() function.
-Finally there is just some really strange activity with the centering feature. .scrollTo() and .animate() perform poorly together especially when there are many textareas or I am picking a box that in the midst of many.
Is there a way to disallow any interaction with the website while an animation plays out?
Any ideas on how to remedy any of these issues?

Code:
function growthearea() {
$('textarea.textfield').blur(function(){
$(this).animate({ height: "51" }, 500); //shrink the current box when lose focus
//$(this).height(51);
});
$('textarea.textfield').focus(function(){
$("*").off("focus,blur,click"); //turn off focus,blur,click while animating
var wheretoY = $(this).offset().top-73;
window.scrollTo(17,wheretoY);
// turn back on focus,blur,click after animation completes
$(this).animate({ height: "409" }, 1000, function(){("*").on("focus,blur,click")});
//$(this).height(409);
});
}
function newboxbtn()
{
var btn=document.createElement("textarea");
btn.setAttribute('class','textfield');
var textlocale = document.getElementById('locale');
textlocale.appendChild(btn);
$('textarea.textfield').on('keyup change', function() {
$('p.display').text('You are typing: ' + $(this).val()); //live update from focused textarea
});
growthearea(); //recall function for any new boxes to be acknowledged
};
function jsinit()
{
$('textarea.textfield').on('keyup change', function() {
$('p.display').text('You are typing: ' + $(this).val()); //live update from focused textarea
});
growthearea(); //call function for initial group of boxes

To check if something is animated: { quite weird for sure! }
if($('*').is(':animated').length) return;
