So i've been asked to remake some registration forms. The way its supposed to work is, that an interpreter chooses X amount of languages in the first select box. Then based on the selections of languages, the user must specify from which languages they can translate from/to.
I want to store this data in a key/value array, with the key being "LanguageFrom" and Value being another array, of "LanguagesTo". This is how i have solved this:

This method is being called with an "onclick" function in the html part. The user should specify which languages he can translate to for each of the chosen languages in the first box,
I am aware that this probably isn't the ideal approach, but im still an inexperienced developer, and i'd love to hear your take on another approach.
Now comes my problem:
1) How do i make it so the array wont overwrite the existing array with each button click, and instead just add to the array?
2) How do i process this array on the server side (php), so that i can store the values in my database?
3) Is it possible to skip the flow where the user has to press the save(gem) button after each language he has chosen?
edit: Question 1 and 3 are now solved, my only problem is accessing the array i made in js, on the php side
1) tempArray exists only in the scope of the btnTest() function. Declare it outside (in the global scope), initialize it as {} and don't reset it every time you click the button. The way you get the fromArray variable may require some tweaking depending on whether the "from" list can accept a multiple selection or not.
2) Ajax may help. Create a php endpoint to receive the request and call it using ajax. You can work on the array using JSON. Send your data using JSON.stringify(tempArray) and read it using json_decode() in your php script, or simply set the request headers as "application/json" to have it done automatically for you.
3) I personally wouldn't automate this process. Let's say I have 4 languages, Italian, English, French and Chinese.
I have selected a desirable state of languages I can handle:
Italian -> English, French
But I also know how to translate French in Italian so I click, in the from list, French, and I get
French -> English
Which is an undesirable state, for me, because I don't know how to do that. Especially if I were to select many languages, I'd get, inbetween 2 states I want to save, an indefinite amount of states I don't want to save.
If you still want to do so, you need to move the even listener from the button to the list(s), with the onchange event.
I'd also suggest you do your event binding trough jQuery, if you aren't already.

When you make your call on your API just set the checked value on the correct checkbox, please have in mind that setting checked=false will still give you a checked checkbox.

One way to preserve information against a page refresh is to use localStorage.
LocalStorage allows you to store key:value variable pairs in the local browser. You can view the localStorage values for any given website in DevTools F12, on the Application tab. The variables are stored by website, and remain as they are until (a) they are deleted, or (b) browser cache is cleared. (For more info on when localStorage is cleared, see this answer).
LocalStorage is dead-simple to use:
let myPet = 'Cat';
localStorage.setItem('animal', myPet);
And to read it:
let myPet = localStorage.getItem('animal');
What you might want to do in your project, perhaps on a timer - or after the ajax call - is loop through your fields and create an object with all the fieldnames/values. Then use JSON.stringify to turn the object into text that you can store in a localStorage variable.
Note that you will need to write something that on page load ( $(document).ready() ) will see if the fields are empty and if there is a RECENT localStorage variable (so, you might want to create second localStorage variable (you can have MANY) that has the last-updated datetime) then you read the JSON string into a javascript object and populate your field values.
I would recommend using a dictionary, putting something unique like an ID of those currencies that are checked at that time.
If the new answer you get has the same currencies as before plus more, you can use that dictionary in memory to check those items again. If you don't get the previous response, you can just add those new items to avoid unchecking the checked currencies.
Exmaple:

dictionary[id] = value; // (true, because it is the value of checked)

I have a scenario on my web application and I would like suggestions on how I could better design it.
I have to steps on my application: Collection and Analysis.
When there is a collection happening, the user needs to keep informed that this collection is going on, and the same with the analysis. The system also shows the 10 last collection and analysis performed by the user.
When the user is interacting with the system, the collections and analysis in progress (and, therefore, the last collections/analysis) keep changing very frequently. So, after considering different ways of storing these informations in order to display them properly, as they are so dynamic, I chose to use HTML5's localStorage, and I am doing everything with JavaScript.
Here is how they are stored:
Collection in Progress: (set by a function called addItem that receives ITEMNAME)
Key: c_ITEMNAME_Storage
Value: c_ITEMNAME
Collection Finished or Error: (set by a function called editItem that also receives ITEMNAME and changes the value of the corresponding key)
Key: c_ITEMNAME_Storage
Value: c_Finished_ITEMNAME or c_Error_ITEMNAME
Collection in the 10 last Collections (set by a function called addItemLastCollections that receives ITEMNAME and prepares the key with the current date and time)
Key: ORDERNUMBER_c_ITEMNAME_DATE_TIME
Value: c_ITEMNAME
Note: The order number is from 0 to 9, and when each collection finishes, it receives the number 0. At the same time, the number 9 is deleted when the addItemLastCollections function is called.
For the analysis is pretty much the same, the only thing that changes is that the "c" becomes an "a".
Anyway, I guess you understood the idea, but if anything is unclear, let me know.
What I want is opinions and suggestions of other approaches, as I am considering this inefficient and impractical, even though it is working fine. I want something easily maintained. I think that sticking with localStorage is probably the best, but not this way. I am not very familiar with the use of Design Patterns in JavaScript, although I use some of them very frequently in Java. If anyone can give me a hand with that, it would be good.

It is a bit hard even for me to explain exactly why I feel it is inefficient. I guess the main reason is because for each case (Progress, Finished, Error, Last Collections) I have to call a method and modify the String (adding underline and more information), and for me to access any data (let's say, the name or the date) of each one of them I need to test to see which case is it and then keep using split( _ ). I know this is not very straightforward but I guess that this whole approach could be better designed. As I am working alone on this part of the software, I don't have anyone that I can discuss things with, so I thought here would be a good place to exchange ideas :)

Not exactly sure what you are looking for. Generally I use localStorage just to store stringified versions of objects that fit my application. Rather than setting up all sorts of different keys for each variable within localStore, I just dump stringified versions of my object into one key in localStorage. That way the data is the same structure whether it comes from server as JSON or I pull it from local.
You can quickly save or retrieve deeply nested objects/arrays using JSON.stringify( object) and JSON.parse( 'string from store');
Example:

I have the server programmed in Cherrypy and I use also Mako Template.
And I have the variable dict (variable Mako that contain information's work) for working with the user( this I have to use Mako and JAvascript).

Well I'm pretty sure your reasons for doing this don't justify doing it, but to answer the question, this is how you would change the tokens. I'm assuming jQuery, it's not entirely necessary but makes the code shorter.

That's slightly minified, so here's the gist. We begin by binding to the submit event, which we prevent (preventDefault and return false to be doubly sure), then get all the form's elements (this.elements) and iterate through them. By the end of the loop, q is a full URL which we want to submit to (using the action property and filling in all the names/values), so we just set the HREF to it and off we go. In this case to myparser.php.
Note that this does no character substitution whatsoever. You should make f[i].value safe in some way. From your question, it seems obvious that you don't want standard URL encoding, but you will need to do something to prevent bad characters being used.
Finally, this is just the sending side. You'll still need to do something clever on your server-side to actually read these values.

I have got a few answers that is far on the side and I think I explain my problem very clear. Shall this problem drive me nuts or is there somebody out there with a straight and clear answer on Titanium.App.Properties?
I have a login form that stores the username in one:
Titanium.App.Properties.setString("userName",e.value);
and the password in another:
Titanium.App.Properties.setString("passWord",e.value);
The forms TextFields holds these values(after a store) even if I close the window, shut down and restarts the app. This because of the App.Properties.getString("value"); I suppose….?!
But when I copy the hole form with its App.Properties.getString("value"); to another window, the TextFields are empty and contains no value at all. I understand that the Properties string must be there some where in App.Properties, but how can grab it and use it another place in the app?
My question is: How to get the value from my
var userNameValue = Titanium.App.Properties.getString("userNameValue");
to be available in another window or for the hole app(global)? How can I grab it and make use of it a another place in the app? I don’t see a good reason to make these, only separate words, into objects(JSON) since the userName only contains a e-mail address and the passWord consist only of continuing letters or numbers. But if you mean I have too, -how do I set this from my TextField and get it in another TextField somewhere else in my app. I have not had any luck so far. I hope you can help me out and I can keep sane.

This is globally Available, any Propertie of the Titanium Object is accessible in each file.
but if for some reason this doesnt work for you and you want to set a global variable,
you could do the following:
Create a file called myGlobals.js //or anything else,

in any file you want to use it write in the first line
Ti.include('myGlobals.js');
Then you can make a propertie global available, for example write this in app.js somewhere where the app initializes
myProperties.Username = Titanium.App.Properties.getString("userName");
Then you can get the value in each file by accesing the propertie
myProperties.Username

But, Titanium.App.Properties.getString("userName");
should be avilable from any file anyway, (but you can give this a try although i dont think its nice to do it like this)
i had a similar problem where this didnt get any value from a propertie set in the ios settings as default value.
I had to go to the settings and manually change or edit the default value and then after a restart
Titanium.App.Properties.getString("userName");
returned the value as it should,

I need to implement a simple way to handle localization about weekdays' names, and I came up with the following structure:

I know I could implement something like an associative array (given the fact that I know that javascript does not provide associative arrays but objects with similar structure), but i need to iterate through the array using numeric indexes instead of labels.
So, I would like to handle this in a for cycle with particular values (like j-1 or indexes like that).
Is my structure correct? Provided a variable "lang" as one of the value between "it-it" or "en-us", I tried to print weekdaysLegend[j-1][lang] (or weekdaysLegend[j-1].lang, I think I tried everything!) but the results is [object Object]. Obviously I'm missing something..

The structure looks fine. You should be able to access values by:
weekdaysLegend[0]["en-us"]; // returns Monday
Of course this will also work for values in variables such as:
weekdaysLegend[i][lang];
for (var i = 0; i < weekdaysLegend.length; i++) {
alert(weekdaysLegend[i]["en-us"]);
}
This will alert the days of the week.
Sounds like you're doing everything correctly and the structure works for me as well.
Just a small note (I see the answer is already marked) as I am currently designing on a large application where I want to put locals into a javascript array.
Assumption: 1000 words x4 languages generates 'xx-xx' + the word itself...
Thats 1000 rows pr. language + the same 7 chars used for language alone = wasted bandwitdh...
the client/browser will have to PARSE THEM ALL before it can do any lookup in the arrays at all.
here is my approach:
Why not generate the javascript for one language at a time, if the user selects another language, just respond(send) the right javascript to the browser to include?
Either store a separate javascript with large array for each language OR use the language as parametre to the server-side script aka:
If the language file changes a lot or you need to minimize it per user/module, then its quite archivable with this approach as you can just add an extra parametre for "which part/module" to generate or a timestamp so the cache of the javascript file will work until changes occures.
if the dynamic approach is too performance heavy for the webserver, then publish/generate the files everytime there is a change/added a new locale - all you'll need is the "language linker" check in the top of the page, to check which language file to server the browser.
Conclusion
This approach will remove the overhead of a LOT of repeating "language" ID's if the locales list grows large.
You have to access an index from the array, and then a value by specifying a key from the object.
