Is there a way to detect what version of Gulp is running (available to utilize in a gulpfile)?
I've got two separate gulpfile's I'm using amongst different environments, some that require v3 and some v4. For easier version control, I would prefer it if I could combine those files and not have to deal with different file names in different environments to eliminate confusion between multiple developers. Obviously to accomplish this I would need the script to differentiate between versions.

You can read package.json and find gulp version

It may not be the best solution, but you can quickly determine the gulp version.

My Javascript file won't run because of bigint error

I am trying to use #metaplex/js to do some NFT minting. Usually my .js files work properly but when I run the file this error comes up.
bigint: Failed to load bindings, pure JS will be used (try npm run rebuild?)
I don't really get what that means. So, I tried to run npm run rebuild but rebuild is said to be a missing script and I couldn't find a way to install it.

You are getting this error because a nested dependency has a compilation step that might not succeed in your platform. This issue provides a good explanation.
[...] This happens because one of our dependencies (bigint-buffer) runs a compilation step on installation and this can step may fail for a couple of reasons. One of the reasons is that your system might not have the build-tools the library is looking for. You can install these build tools on Windows (see https://www.npmjs.com/package/windows-build-tools), but you don't actually need to as it automatically falls back to a pure JS solution instead. Though I agree... that warning is very annoying.
However, this should give you a warning and still allow you to compile your code.
It is worth noting that the current JS SDK from Metaplex is going to be deprecated in favour of the new one: https://github.com/metaplex-foundation/js-next

Renaming file by using Node Package Version [duplicate]

Is there a way to get the version set in package.json in a nodejs app? I would want something like this

I found that the following code fragment worked best for me. Since it uses require to load the package.json, it works regardless of the current working directory.

Doing this with Browserify has security implications.
Be careful not to expose your package.json to the client, as it means that all your dependency version numbers, build and test commands and more are sent to the client.
If you're building server and client in the same project, you expose your server-side version numbers too.
Such specific data can be used by an attacker to better fit the attack on your server.
If your application is launched with npm start, you can simply use:
process.env.npm_package_version

For those who look for a safe client-side solution that also works on server-side, there is genversion. It is a command-line tool that reads the version from the nearest package.json and generates an importable CommonJS module file that exports the version. Disclaimer: I'm a maintainer.

There is another way of fetching certain information from your package.json file namely using pkginfo module.
Usage of this module is very simple. You can get all package variables using:
require('pkginfo')(module);
Or only certain details (version in this case)
require('pkginfo')(module, 'version');
And your package variables will be set to module.exports (so version number will be accessible via module.exports.version).
You could use the following code snippet:
require('pkginfo')(module, 'version');

This module has very nice feature - it can be used in any file in your project (e.g. in subfolders) and it will automatically fetch information from your package.json. So you do not have to worry where you package.json is.

Note the output is slightly different between these two methods: the former outputs the version number surrounded by quotes (i.e. "1.0.0"), the latter without (i.e. 1.0.0).
One solution to remove the quotes in Unix is using xargs

Just adding an answer because I came to this question to see the best way to include the version from package.json in my web application.
I know this question is targetted for Node.js however, if you are using Webpack to bundle your app just a reminder the recommended way is to use the DefinePlugin to declare a global version in the config and reference that. So you could do in your webpack.config.json

And then AppVersion is now a global that is available for you to use. Also make sure in your .eslintrc you ignore this via the globals prop
If you are looking for module (package.json: "type": "module") (ES6 import) support, e.g. coming from refactoring commonJS, you should (at the time of writing) do either:

we can read the version or other keys from package.json in two ways
1- using require and import the key required e.g:

I've actually been through most of the solutions here and they either did not work on both Windows and Linux/OSX, or didn't work at all, or relied on Unix shell tools like grep/awk/sed.
The accepted answer works technically, but it sucks your whole package.json into your build and that's a Bad Thing that only the desperate should use temporarily to get unblocked, and in general should be avoided, at least for production code. The alternative is to use that method only to write the version to a single constant that can be used instead of the whole file.
So for anyone else looking for a cross-platform solution (not reliant on Unix shell commands) and local (without external dependencies):
Since it can be assumed that Node.js is installed, and it's already cross-platform for this, I just created a make_version.js file with:

Now the only thing you will have to make sure is that your package version will be the first time in package.json that key is used otherwise you'll end up with the wrong version
I'm using create-react-app and I don't have process.env.npm_package_version available when executing my React-app.
I did not want to reference package.json in my client-code (because of exposing dangerous info to client, like package-versions), neither I wanted to install an another dependency (genversion).
I found out that I can reference version within package.json, by using $npm_package_version in my package.json:

Read environment variables and then replace them in client-side JS when using gulp for building prod or dev code

So lets say I have some code in js
const myApiKey = 'id_0001'
But instead of harcoding it I want to put it in some bash script with other env vars and read from it and then replace it in the JS
So lets say for prod I would read from prod-env.sh or for dev I would read them from dev-env.sh and then gulp or some other tool does the magic and replaces MY_API_KEY based on whatever is established inside of prod-env.sh or dev-env.sh.

Update: I want to add I only care about unix OS, not concerned about windows. In golang there is way to read for example envVars.get('MY_API_KEY'), I'm looking for something similar but for JS in the client side.
If you're using gulp, it sounds like you could use any gulp string replacer, like gulp-replace.
As for writing the gulp task(s). If you are willing to import the environment into your shell first, before running node, you can access the environment via process.env

In that last example I added ${} around the environment variable name to make it less prone to accidents. So the source file becomes:

This answer is an easy way to do this for someone who doesn't want to touch the code they are managing. For example you are on the ops team but not the dev team and need to do what you are describing.

How to find built-in modules under the Node.js directory

Node.js has a list of built-in modules,e.g.,
os, path
I know these modules are compiled into the binary.
However, after installed Node.js, I can't find the modules under the Node.js directory.
Could someone know where the modules are located?
You are correct in that they are compiled into the binary - as JavaScript. This can be proven by running just the node binary from https://nodejs.org/ in isolation - all the standard libraries are available.

Class autoloader in Ember.js?

I am looking for an autoloader, similar to how they operate in languages (e.g. http://php.net/manual/en/language.oop5.autoload.php). I merely specify the algorithm for finding the file and it's automatically loaded into the app.
My initial thinking is a build process that scans directories and builds an index file. Is there a better way?

I use Grunt.js to watch and rebuild automatically when changes occur.
You probably want to use something like RequireJS: http://requirejs.org/
RequireJS will allow you to specify dependencies which will be loaded as needed. You can also run the RequireJS optimizer to compile your templates and JavaScript in to one file to deploy to your production servers.
One could use a pre-made tool like Yeoman's ember generator or ember tools. They are opinionated about the project's folder structure.
