I'm working on my personal website. There's this weird problem that on my iOS device (I don't have any other mobile devices to test this on) scrolling seems bugged. It's not smooth, and it immediately stops when you lift your finger off the screen.
As I have no clue where the problem might be, I'll not post the entire code of my website. It is live at nielshak.com.
Things I tried: removing all JS from my website (to exclude any JS is tampering with scroll behaviour), removing all :hover css selectors (to exclude that any hover elements might tamper with scrolling) and adding -webkit-overflow-scrolling: touch to the css.
I'm at a total loss here. I really appreciate all help!
Edit: I still have no insights on this. Is there anyone out there with further suggestions?
Did you try -webkit-overflow-scrolling?. Add -webkit-overflow-scrolling: touch; to page-wrapper.

I am trying out this new implementation where I am updating some div's bottom/top value to emulate fixed position using javascript with scroll event. The problem is while scrolling the div's are getting a fixed position but moving little bit up/down depending on scroll direction. Had to do it this way as I used transform scale. So CSS position fixed doesn't work. Any optimization advice will be very helpful.
the code is here --> Alternative of position fixed using JavaScript shows weird behavior on window resize
If you check my page on desktop/laptop you can experience that. It depends on a lot of variables like how powerful the device is, browser to browser. I am hoping that if anyone has access to MAC OS on safari and chrome or Windows chrome or any desktop/laptop with a decent browser on it may check the user experience and leave a comment about how laggy jittery is it? Is it like okay or bad?
the webpage link --> https://elomymelo.com/soundcore-motion-boom-plus.html
All you need to do is, scroll down half of my page clicking the link above on desktop/laptop. The right side content should get fixed. But may have jittery behavior on scroll. And please leave a comment about how bad is the experience?
Thanks for your time. This will help me a lot to figure out if I should implement it on the other pages or not. Any optimization advice will be very helpful.
I'm not sure if this question needs code but I will try to explain as well as possible.
I have a simple menu button that opens a full page overlay (w/ opacity 0.9)
so I want to be sure the use doesn't scroll the content in the page while the menu is open.
I implemented few techniques (body: overflow hidden, position fixed) but I realized that when you open the website on my iPhone Safari, the rules work only when the viewport has the browser interface fully visible (not the minimal ui on the right) but when in minimal Uimode, then the scroll can happen.
also since my design wants to be semi-transparent, the user can clearly see what's happening below..
any solutions?
It seems the best solution I found so far is to use
touch-action: none;
-ms-touch-action: none;
on the modal div. Not sure why but if apply the rule to the body doesn't work.
Of course this may prevent the modal to be scrollable...haven't tested yet, but at least is one less headache for today.
I am implementing a navigation with anchors that trigger some Javascript to scroll to a specified element, testing it on iOS (Iphone 4) for now.
This is not a new topic and I have done a lot of research before I decided to re-open this question, for no avail. However, my setup also differs a bit from the numerous others in that I first trigger a transition on the navigation horizontally and then the smooth-scroll afterwards. I am wondering if the combination might raise that "buggy" behavior. What make me not really believe this is the fact that waiting for the transition to finish does not resolve the problem (neither using a callback function, nor utilizing window.setTimeout).
Using .scrollTop simply make the browser jump to the element. The transition of the navigation however is smooth.
Using .animate, the transition of the navigation is very laggy. When I apply a very slow animation, it "only" laggs until the transition of the navigation has finished (or some milliseconds after that), whereas the last part of the scroll is quite smooth (this gives me some hope).
The .translate3d CSS option worked fine, but the page is "cut" so that I cannot scroll back after the transition has finished. This is more of a solution for full screen pages I guess.
I do not want to know how to implement an anchor that triggers scrolling, I am asking if someone knows a smooth way to implement scrolling (in my case for iOS). Meaning, I realise that I could have written the JS-Function more generic, but this is only test-code for now.
I have not tested this on android as my target device is iOS, but if this is a known issue only for iOS (e.g. it is working on android) I would be happy if you tell me.
JavaScript / jQuery:
$('#my-link').click(function (event) {
scrollTo('element'); /* hand crafted for now */
event.preventDefault();
});
function scrollTo (element) {
navToggle(); /* This toggles classes on various elements, triggering the respective element's transition */
$('html, body').animate({
'scrollTop': $('#'+element).offset().top /* I deleted the callback (on navToggle) and setTimeout code as it did not make a huge difference to the result */
}, 666);
}
HTML:
<!-- typed out by hand, if there are minor errors they are not related to the issue -->
<a href='#element' id='my-link'>Click to scroll</a>
...
<div id='element'>...</div>
Providing that code is actually just part of the etiquette as I dont look for concrete improvement on what I have written. However, this works like a charme on desktop browsers and if it helps some of you, the better. Also check out this question on how to implement anchor scrolling as it delivers great answers for desktop browsers!
It is late (or early) and my brain is a mess, but I hope I made my question clear (If not I will come back to edit it.): Is there a way to make a mobile browser (e.g. iOS' Safari) smooth scroll like a charme? If already solved, please point me in the right direction.
Thank's a lot and happy coding!
I have an issue with scrolling. In our web project, our testers are raising issues for scrolling. They are scrolling up and down rapidly and by doing that, the text is getting blurred. Is there any fixes for this?
We are using only javascript and css. I found many plugins for jittery scroll but none of them seems to fix this problem.
Please provide a solution
Thanks and regards,
Anil Simon
You can use below css to resolve this
* {
-webkit-overflow-scrolling: touch;
}
I'm building a very basic webapp that displays ferry schedules.
I'm using phonegap to port it to a "native" app on Android and I'm have a bit of trouble with the scrolling.
It works perfectly in Chrome on the device, as well as on the android browser. I've tested on several devices and they all work great in browser. As soon as I put the project into Phonegap however the scroll becomes very "choppy" and skips and sticks. I've added a video link to show you the behaviour:
http://youtu.be/D18s9kgnD7g
I'll give you a brief explanation of how it works:
We're using translate3d CSS methods for transitions when we switch content in view so that we avoid using page transitions. Because of this we're not scrolling the actual page we're scrolling individual content divs so that we avoid weird scrolling bugs when switching between content views. Basically we have three "content views" on one page that switch out when we want to switch views.
Here's a link to the app:
http://ferriesapp.ca/app/
Things I've tried
We're using "overscroll: scroll;" one these content divs, which I know had some incompatibilty with Android pre 2.3 but should be good now.
We've tried a few big libraries, like iScroll and Scrollable, and things like that to no avail.
I've tried preventing default actions for touchmove.
We've coded correct touch events using Zepto's touch module.
I've tested on devices from the Nexus one (4.0.4) to the Nexus 7 (4.3) and it's the same story on all those devices.
Any help would be STRONGLY appreciated
I've been struggling with this for a while now and I can't seem to find anything on the internet that hits on this "choppy" scrolling bug.
EDIT: Here's a logcat from installation to when the scrolling bug happens:

You got a pretty nasty style sheet there. First, you do not want any box shaddow because mobile does not like that. Then, since you have a lot of blank spaces, you want to help touch to work better with those blanks with user-select: html.
* {
margin: 0;
padding: 0;
-webkit-user-select:html;
-khtml-user-select:html;
-moz-user-select:html;
-ms-user-select:html;
user-select:html;
}
That should help with your scrolling, but you still have tons of thing to clean up with that CSS. Another issue is that you don't even have cordova loaded correctly, but that probably doesn't really matter for scrolling.
Actually, what is zepto_002.js? That seem to be the one that is causing the main scrolling issue.
As a fellow google play developer, having "three "content views" on one page that switch out when we want to switch views" is not a good idea. my only input though if you want to go this path would be to check this out http://pocketnow.com/2012/05/25/what-is-force-gpu-rendering-in-ice-cream-sandwich
