I have Jquery latest connected and working with other parts of application.
0. End goal: for a modal window to appear on the screen.
1. I click on a button.
2. A function runs that append a modal to body
3. With modals, in order for this modal to actually show on the screen, I
need to
press a button that has data-target="#EnterModalNameHere"
4. I make a hidden button in index.html that has the needed data-target
property.
5. I would like to be able to click this hidden button once the function in step
2 finishes appending the modal.
How can I tell Javascript "once finished appending modal, click on hidden button"?
You can create an Event.
You can create a custom Event which would be dispatch (trigger) immediately after
the document is ready.
So, in your situation, since you aren't using a media query, you can use :
SetTimeout like setTimeout(() => { do something }, timeout);. So, the timeout could be 1000 - which means 1sec and so on,
A custom event which you can trigger when the modal successfully appended to the body.
An Event Listeners Like load window.onload = function() { enter code here }

I have an xpage (viewed via web browser) which has many <xe:dialog...> controls on it, resulting in bootstrap modal dialogue boxes.
I want to run some client-side script when any dialogue is closed.
So I tried ..
$('.modal').on('hide.bs.modal', function() { ...}
However this didn't work, I suspect because when the xpage is loaded there aren't actually any elements with class 'modal', until one is opened. Then a partial refresh injects the relevant HTML.
So I tried running that line above in the event when the modal opens (in the xpages onShow event), but that didn't fire either. I guess the event might be 'when the modal opens but before it's displayed' meaning the elements aren't ont he screen then either.
So I also tried (hack, hack) a setTimeout of 2 seconds to allow the modal to show first, but still no luck.
So .. question is ..
Using xpages bootstrap modals, via the standard xe:dialog control, how can I attach a client-side javascript event whcih will run when the modal is closed / hidden ?
You can use Event Delegation to bind the listener to a parent element of the (non-existing) modals and trigger a function when a click happens on elements matching the .modal selector in that parent element:
$(document).on("hide.bs.modal", ".modal", function () {...});
I do something similar to this, where a button selection on one modal, closes said modal, and then depending on the button that was clicked, opens the next modal. Instead of doing that, could you not run your script in the same way?
var
currentModal = $(this);
//click next
currentModal.find('.btn-close').click(function(){
currentModal.modal('hide');
OTHER STUFF?
EDIT - My full code:
<script type="text/javascript">
$("div[id^='myModal1']").each(function(){
var
currentModal = $(this);
//click next
currentModal.find('.btn-next').click(function(){
currentModal.modal('hide');
currentModal.closest("div[id^='myModal']").nextAll("div[id^='myModal3']").first().modal('show');
});
//click prev
currentModal.find('.btn-prev').click(function(){
currentModal.modal('hide');
currentModal.closest("div[id^='myModal']").nextAll("div[id^='myModal2']").first().modal('show');
});
});
$(window).on('load',function(){
$('#myModal1').modal('show');
});
</script>
I need to call a function (which one will open a popup) when my page is loading.
If I want the popup to be open, the function should be called by a user event (a click or something).
I tried to simulate the click event but it's not isn't working. The function is being called but no click event has been created.
For example, I tried with angular to do the following:
var element = angular.element("<div ng-click='MyFunction()'></div>");
compiled = $compile(element)(scope);
$timeout(function () {
compiled.triggerHandler('click');
}, 100)
#IsraGab,when you want an user event when page loads then i think you must go for onmouseout Event for body element.

Forgive me if I word the title wrong, I'm speculating on what my problem might be as I'm not a javascript coding expert. I have a series of divs that are generated by a php loop with unique ids created by adding the unique id contained in an auto increment column in the mysql db table that contains all the info for the row.
When the user clicks on the div this function fires off:
onclick=\"showModal('".$rowInfo['ID']."_row-id')\"
javascript code:
function showModal(ID) { /* code that shows hidden modal window */ }
This works fine, however now I need to start adding javascript buttons (in my case img tags with onclick functions) to the div with the showModal onclick function.
I added this code to the showModal(ID) function:
var downArrow = document.getElementById(ID+'_down-arrow'); // Down arrow is the button users click to show addition buttons/divs
downArrow.addEventListener('click',arrowCheck,false); // checks to see if down arrow was clicked, if so arrowCheck function runs and stops propagation.
arrowCheck function:
function arrowCheck(e) { e.stopPropagation(); }
This bit of code also works but ONLY AFTER the user has clicked the div once, the first time the div is clicked both functions fire off (ie the modal window and the extra buttons that the down arrow shows) but after the first click the addEventListener does it's job and clicking the down arrow only shows extra buttons, elsewhere brings up the modal, etc.
I'm guessing I need to create the event listener before the user clicks the div and fires off showModal(), is this correct? I'm not sure how to create a unique event listener for each down arrow image before the div is clicked, or even if I need to. Thanks for any help!
Since the event listener is being created within the modal function, you need to call the modal function before the other listener is even added.
To get your desired results, you could either directly add the onclick method to the image that the PHP code creates, or you could detect when the page is finished loading and add those listeners then. To do the latter, though, you'd need to either query for something the images all have in common, like a classname, or you'd have to keep track of the IDs used and manually add a listener for each. e.g.:
<body onload="initEventhandling()">
initEventHandling = function () {
var buttons = document.getElementsByClassName("image-button");
for (button in buttons) {
button.addEventListener('click', arrowCheck, false);
}
}
David Millar's code pointed me in the right direction. I tried to put the initEventHandling function in the onload of the body tag but I couldn't get it to work. It executed the function but I could not get the eventListeners to work. I solved it by creating an event listener using the onload for each img tag, so my code ended up like this:
<img id=\"".$appChart['ID']."_down-arrow\" onload=\"addEvent('".$appChart['ID']."')\" onclick=\"clickReviewArrow('".$appChart['ID']."')\" src='...' />
javascript:
function addEvent(ID) { var downArrow = document.getElementById(ID+'_down-arrow');
downArrow.addEventListener('click',arrowCheck,false); }
function arrowCheck(e) { e.stopPropagation(); }
David Millar may have been suggesting this, if so I'll mark his answer.
I have the following code:
$( "#check-button" ).on( "click", function() {
$("#button_cart").click();
$('.checkout-button').click();
});
I have this jQuery click event. What I want to do is, on clicking the check-button, the first line inside the function is updating the cart (which reloads the page) and then the second line inside the function is the checkout button, which takes me to the next (checkout) page.
But here only the first event is firing. Is this because the page is reloaded on "button-cart" clicking? How do I solve it?
That's correct. The second click actually could be working but in some kind of limbo between the click and the load and you wont see it.
The solution is to "handle" the reload event, I put it between "" because this event can't be handled ( as far as I know) but you can make some hacks.
First, why is reloading the page? Are you adding new content?
In this case just call the click in the content added with a load handler like $(document).ready();
Here is how i did it: Using localstorage.
Just saved the value of someVariable on check-button click ( along with button-cart click) and on page reload i checked if the value is set. If it is set, i unset it and clicked the next button.

This was really great help from SO. Thank u SO
jQuery(document).click(function () {
jQuery('.close-news').css('display', function(){return jQuery('#colorbox').css('display');});
});
I have this script, which make my link appear\dissappear depends on state of #colorbox block. But somewhy link appear\dissappear not immediatelly, but after 2 click.
Basically i have to click one more time in random area to make my script work
I guess its because my html code isnt update fast enought to make . So how do i add some timeout for this script?
It seems you are using Colorbox in Drupal.
There can be a callback function that gets executed once the Colorbox is shown up.
After Debugging your site, seems that there is a cbox_complete custom event firing up.
If thats the case, you can attach a function to this event.
In the function, you can toggle the display of your .close-news li element, similar to what you are doing on document click in the question
