Browserify - Bundle loads, but doesn't work afterwards - javascript

Before you ask, yes I've been using Browserify multiple times, but for some reason it just won't work this time.
The problem:
When I load up the website, bundle.js will only be executed once, then be ignored for the rest of the time. - Require is not the problem, since I tried to Console.log some require code, which worked, but afterwards, anything done by the user won't be executed.
As you can see in my code, I'm trying to execute registerHref() onclick of my button, which works when I'm not using bundle.js, but as soon as I'm doing this with my bundle, it's like it's being completely ignored. I will get an error which says: Uncaught ReferenceError: registerHref is not defined at HTMLButtonElement.onclick - But when I try to console.log the function on window.onload - it works as it should.

What I did:
I made my bundle using: browserify main.js > bundle.js <- Usually works fine

The problem is that after the code gets compiled the function isn't attached to the window object but instead is executed within a different scope.
You have basically two options here:
Attach the registerHref function to the window object (not recommended):

Create an event listener in your JS code and remove the onclick attribute from your HTML (recommended):

window.location.href = "./register.html"

ReferenceError when calling function in external script from a script tag

I feel like there is something very little I'm doing wrong, but I can't find it. I can't figure out how to call an externally-defined function from within a script tag, it keeps giving me ReferenceError's.
I've reduced my code to the most minimal, so here's what I've got. This is my HTML:

d3/d3.min.js is D3 version 3. Here's what I have in d3/charts/bar.js:

But when I load up the page, the Javascript console spits out:

Uncaught ReferenceError: createBarChart is not defined
If I move the code in d3/charts/bar.js into the <script> tag in the HTML, it works fine, but I want to reuse the code so I want it external. What am I doing wrong? Why can't I call createBarChart?
Update: Using Babel to compile down to Ecmascript2015 doesn't change anything, still the same ReferenceError. Also changed the event listener to an arrow function.
Update: I removed the D3 code and am just calling a console.log(), but still no luck.
I got it to work. Not sure if this will help anyone else (hopefully it can), but I just restarted my computer. That's all; no code changes whatsoever. My original code works fine now (even the original .addEventListener()).
It wasn't a browser caching issue, since I tried several browsers in private mode, and I still really don't know what the problem is. If anyone has any idea what it was, please do comment, I'm still puzzled despite being able to move on.

Using functions from other files in JavaScript

I'm making a game in JS using P5, and I came upon a problem.
In my html file I have references to .js files:

I have one .js file defining the function isKeyPressed():

Does anyone know why this is occurring?
For the record, I don't think the accepted answer is correct. Specifically, I don't think the accepted answer really changes anything from what you were originally doing. My guess is that you had another problem in your code (like a syntax error) that was causing this error, and you fixed that in the process of implementing the suggested solution. So while it might look like the solution fixed your problem, really it was something else.
I'm providing this alternative answer so you don't think you have to define your JavaScript in your html directly, as that is definitely not the case.
I tried testing out your setup by creating a smaller example consisting of three files:

This is pretty much exactly what your setup is, and it works fine. You absolutely do not need to put your JavaScript in your html. As long as the JavaScript files are correctly loaded in the proper order, then you can use functions and variables from one file in another file.
There are two main things that could cause your problem:
Are your files correctly loaded?
Are there any syntax errors you haven't noticed? (This is my guess as to what caused your original problem.) Check the JavaScript console, and try running some test code to actually run the functions you're trying to call.
Did you get all the file names correct?
Are you behind a firewall, or are there other network problems that might cause a problem with loading?
Are your files loaded in the proper order?
For file two.js to access code defined in one.js, you have to make sure one.js is loaded before two.js. It looks like you've done this correctly, but are you sure the JavaScript is where you think it is?
In other words, are you sure it was in player.js and not in main.js?
You might want to get rid of this ambiguity by placing related JavaScript in the same file. It doesn't make a ton of sense to have one file define a keysPressed array and then another file use that array to define an isKeyPressed() function. Just put them in the same file, and make sure that file is loaded before other files that use it.
The accepted answer doesn't change anything with regard to when stuff is loaded. Unless you had a syntax error, or the player.motion() function was actually in the main.js file, or you had a network loading problem, your code should have worked. So one of those things must be your actual problem. You do not have to define your JavaScript in your html for it to work.
I recommend not making a file name have capitals. So change it from

This is importing all functions from the isKeyPressed.js file and therefore you are able to reference it in the <script> tag. You were not able to use isKeyPressed.js's functions in player.js because you cannot reference it.

Accessing iframe contents - code works in the console, but not when the page loads

When I run my code in console it works fine, but when I load the page it gives me an error - TypeError: undefined is not an object (evaluating 'rowInfo.textContent')
I have two webpages one that is the parent and the other that is the child. They are both on the same local server using the same protocol and port. I have a third file that holds the javascript. Here is the relevant code:

After the page has loaded and I go to the console, I can see that the variable f is defined, but nothing else is defined. Now if I use the console and put the code in everything works fine. The minutesUntilCallBack alerts and so does the correct calendarItemId.
I thought it might have been a problem with the iframe not being loaded properly, so I put a listening event in, that I have to OK before I run the function popUpWindow() that looks into the iframe.
I've read lots of posts about similar issues across many sites, but can't seem to get to the correct answer.
Any help much appreciated.
You need to put the popUpWindow() function inside of the onload event listener for the iframe. It is currently running before the iframe has loaded. addEventListener is asynchronous.

Uncaught ReferenceError $ is not defined

I'm very new to JavaScript (just started a few hours ago and trying to get a script working). I went through a few tutorials on W3 and the 'hello world' code works when I paste it directly into my HTML but I'm having a problem with a script (I've had problems with other scripts as well but I am not sure what I'm doing wrong).
I have this code that I want to test in my HTML, I copied the HTML in and it looks the same then I made a file in my static folder called edit.js and copied the JavaScript into it (exactly as shown). It didn't work no errors on the page but when I click it nothing happens. I tried to paste a W3 'hello world' code in and that worked but this script does not.
I tried to inspect the code in Chrome and that's where I see the above error (under the resources tab). I can open the js file using Chrome which makes me think the js file is accessible and pointing correctly but I'm not sure how to get it working. I'm using Jinja2 as my template engine to render the HTML and in my header I have:

I have never been able to successfully run a JavaScript that wasn't on W3 yet. I get the same problem with other scripts even though I see people online saying they work fine for them. Do I need to do anything extra to make this work?
My two questions are:
What am I doing wrong?
Because Javascript seems to just not work when there's a problem, is there a way to get errors or information on what's actually wrong?
I read Uncaught ReferenceError: $ is not defined? and have been trying to figure this out for the last hour and can't see my problem.
First you need to place the jQuery script tag first.
Second, you need to do one of the following things:
Put your code within this function:
$(document).ready(function(){/*CODE HERE*/});
Or like this:
$(function(){
/*CODE HERE*/
});
The DOM needs to be ready before you can use it. Placing your code within anonymous functions that are executed on the ready event of the DOM is how you can do this.

Script tag for jQuery should come before your custom javascript.
Follow by edit.js

Try removing the language attribute..sometimes work for me. It's obsolete now .. i think
You need to include jquery before you can use it.

jQuery $(document).ready () fires twice

I've been sifting around the web trying to find out whats going on here and I have not been able to get a concrete answer.
I have one $(document).ready on my site that seams to run multiple times regardless of the code that is inside it.
I've read up on the bug reports for jQuery about how the .ready event will fire twice if you have an exception that occurs within your statement. However even when I have the following code it still runs twice:

In the console all I see is "ready" logged twice. Is it possible that another .ready with an exception in it would cause an issue? My understanding was that all .ready tags were independent of each other, but I cannot seem to find where this is coming into play?

Pay no attention to the JSP variables, but as you can see i'm only calling the functions.js file once (which is where the .ready function exists)
The ready event cannot fire twice. What is more than likely happening is you have code that is moving or manipulating the element that the code is contained within which causes the browser to re-execute the script block.
This can be avoided by including script tags in the <head> or before the closing </body> tag and not using $('body').wrapInner();. using $('body').html($('body').html().replace(...)); has the same effect.
It happened to me also, but I realized that the script had been included twice because of a bad merge.
This happened to me when using KendoUI... invoking a popup window would cause the document.ready event to fire multiple times. The easy solution is to set a global flag so that it only runs once:

Make sure you don't include JS file twice. That was my case
You might consider to use
window.onload
instead of
$(document).ready
try putting this in your functions.js to prevent it from being executed twice :

however i suggest that you look more into it to see where are you calling the second time.
I had a similar problem when I was trying to refresh a partial. I called a return ActionResult instead of a return PartialViewResult. The ActionResult caused my ready() to run twice.
There is a possibility to encounter this problem when you add same controller twice in the html.
For an instance:

I had a similar issue today. A <button type="submit"> caused the $(document).ready(...) event to fire again in my case. Changing the code to <button type="button"> solved the issue for me.

In my case $(document).ready was firing twice because of bad CSS, check if any part of your CSS has background-image: url('');
If the iframe doesnt show anything and is used for other reasons (like uploading a file without reload) you can do something like this :

Notice that src is not included that prevents the second on ready trigger on the document.
I had this problem with window.load function was executed twice:
The reason was because I had reference to the same javascript-file in the main page as well as a .net usercontrol. When I removed the reference in the main page, the load-function was only executed once.
I had this happen to me this morning... and what I discovered after closely examining some html code in a jquery modal form that I had recently manipulated, that I'd accidentally removed a closing table tag. I haven't taken the time yet to fully understand why that caused the document.ready function to be called twice, but it did. Adding the closing table tag fixed this issue.

My problem was that I had tags referencing my JS file in both my index.cshtml file AND my _Layout.cshtml. This was causing the document.ready function to fire twice, which was causing DataTables to bomb.
