And and remove classes when click on nav item and outside - javascript

I'm trying to build a tricky navigation menu that needs to do the following:
When click in a nav item, .active class should be added to that item and removed from the previous one.
When one dropdown is open and you click to open another one the previous one should close and the new one should open in one click.
When click in a nav item it should open its respective dropdown container (at the moment it opens every dropdowns at once.)
and it should add .black-bg class to main-container underneath it.
When click anywhere outside the dropdown its active class .active should be removed as well as the class .black-bg in main-container underneath it.
JS
$(document).ready(function() {
$(".click").on("click", function(evt) {
evt.stopPropagation();
$(this).toggleClass("active");
$(".showup").slideToggle(200);
$(".main-container").toggleClass("black-bg");
});
$(".showup").on("click", function(evt) {
evt.stopPropagation();
});
});
$(document).on("click", function() {
$(".showup").slideUp(50);
});
This is what I came up with so far:

I hope the above makes sense and someone could help me as I'm really stuck with this nav.
Thank you so much!

I recommend not using jQuery for this because of the exact issues you're running into. Try using Vue or Preact
However, if you insist on using jQuery, your click function should select the item that has "active", and modify it and its siblings accordingly.
https://codepen.io/anon/pen/aGwdXO
$(document).ready(function() {
$(".click").on("click", function(evt) {
evt.stopPropagation();
if ($(this).hasClass("active")) {
return;
}
$(".active").parent().find(".showup").slideToggle(200);
$(".active").toggleClass("active");
$(this).toggleClass("active");
$(this).parent().find(".showup").slideToggle(200);
if (!$(".main-container").hasClass("black-bg")) {
$(".main-container").toggleClass("black-bg");
}
});
$(".showup").on("click", function(evt) {
evt.stopPropagation();
});
});
$(document).on("click", function() {
$(".active").parent().find(".showup").slideUp(50);
$(".active").toggleClass("active");
if ($(".main-container").hasClass("black-bg")) {
$(".main-container").toggleClass("black-bg");
}
});

Check this. Just add class showup1, showup2, etc and data-showup="1", data-showup="2" attr in each menu item. (Working in nav items 1 and 2).
$(".click").on("click", function(evt) {
evt.stopPropagation();
var showup = $(this).data('showup');
if(!$(this).hasClass('active')){
$('.active').removeClass('active');
$(this).addClass("active");
$(".showup").hide();
$(".showup"+showup).slideToggle(200);
$(".main-container").addClass("black-bg");
});
Run

Unable to repeat click event

This is basically a menu toggle feature which I want to repeat but can't achieve the intended unless I refresh the page. Clicking on .fa-bars adds class .animate to body which slides in the menu from the left, when the menu is visible clicking anywhere outside the menu area, it hides the menu as well as removes the class.animate from body.
This only works once then I refresh the page.
Any help in this regard will be appreciated
jQuery code
$(document).ready(function()
{
$(document).on('click', function()
{
if($('body').hasClass('animate'))
{
$('body.animate').on('click', function()
{
$(this).removeClass('animate');
});
}
else
{
$('.fa-bars').on('click', function()
{
$('body').addClass('animate');
});
}
});
});
I think he want to close menu when click on body only. This code may help:
$(document).ready(function () {
$('.fa-bars').on('click', function (evt) {
$('body').addClass('animate');
evt.stopPropagation();
});
$('body').on('click', function () {
if ($('body').hasClass('animate')) {
$('body').removeClass('animate');
}
});
});
Click on fb-bars to open menu
Click on body to close menu if already opened

Does an added class in jQuery carry over after page reload?

I'm trying to remember which tabs were open in my menu after reload. Here's my js:
$(document).ready(function () {
$(".sidebar div").hide();
$(".sidebar li a").click(function () {
// alert($(this).attr("class"));
var myClass=$(this).attr("class");
if ($("#div"+myClass).attr("class")!='active') {
$("#div"+myClass).slideToggle(); //open tab
$("#div"+myClass).addClass('active');
}
else {
$("#div"+myClass).slideToggle(); //close tab
$("#div"+myClass).removeClass('active');
}
});
});
It's constantly adding and taking away the class "active" each time I click on it. I also have this right below it:
$(window).load(function () {
$(".active").slideToggle();
});
Whenever I reload my page, even when a couple of tabs have an active class, they do not appear to be slideToggling. Am I doing this wrong? Is there an easy way around this?

Prevent bootstrap dropdown from closing on click event [duplicate]

This question already has answers here:
How do I prevent my dropdown from closing when clicking inside it?

Closed 4 years ago.
My menu uses Bootstrap 3 and I can't prevent dropdown from closing on click. How can I do it?
JSFiddle
// Add open class if active
$('.sidebar-nav').find('li.dropdown.active').addClass('open');
// Open submenu if active
$('.sidebar-nav').find('li.dropdown.open ul').css("display","block");
// Change active menu
$(".sidebar-nav > li").click(function(){
$(".sidebar-nav > li").removeClass("active");
$(this).addClass("active");
});
// Add open animation
$('.dropdown').on('show.bs.dropdown', function(e){
$(this).find('.dropdown-menu').first().stop(true, true).slideDown();
});
// Add close animation
$('.dropdown').on('hide.bs.dropdown', function(e){
$(this).find('.dropdown-menu').first().stop(true, true).slideUp();
});
You need to stop event from bubbling up the DOM tree:
$('.dropdown-menu').click(function(e) {
e.stopPropagation();
});
event.stopPropagation prevents event from reaching the node where it's eventually handled by Bootstrap hiding menu.
Demo: http://jsfiddle.net/wkc5md23/3/
I believe this should be a more proper solution, as stopping propagation on the click event might sometimes cause issues later on in development. You may read more into it here: http://css-tricks.com/dangers-stopping-event-propagation/ Instead this solution stops propagation on the Bootstrap hide (hide.bs.dropdown) event, which stops it from continuing on to the hidden (hidden.bs.dropdown) event.
The following code has been taken and edited by myself to make it work on all Bootstrap dropdowns, as it has originally been taken from here: Preventing bootstrap dropdown from closing on click I personally prefer this way also because it uses the built in Bootstrap dropdown events, which could be found here: https://getbootstrap.com/docs/3.4/javascript/#dropdowns-events.
$(function () {
$('.dropdown').on({
'click': function (event) {
if ($(event.target).closest('.dropdown-toggle').length) {
$(this).data('closable', true);
} else {
$(this).data('closable', false);
}
},
'hide.bs.dropdown': function (event) {
hide = $(this).data('closable');
$(this).data('closable', true);
return hide;
}
});
});
You can disable the dropdown functionality temporarily. This is a workaround.
Example with input field inside the drop-down "menu":
//for dropdown field not closing when clicking on inputfield
$(document).on('focus', 'input', function (e) {
// this attribute can be anything except "dropdown", you can leave it blank
$('#yourDropdownID').attr('data-toggle', 'off');
});
//for dropdown field back to normal when not on inputfield
$(document).on('focusout', 'input', function (e) {
$('#yourDropdownID').attr('data-toggle', 'dropdown');
});
This can be used on anything that is clickable and you can define individually what items clicked can close or not close the drop-down menu.
Not close in click out side menu
$(function() {
var closeble = false;
$('body').on('click', function (e) {
if (!$(event.target).is('a.dropdown-toggle')) {
closeble = false;
}
});
$('.dropdown').on({
'click': function (event) {
if ($(event.target).closest('.dropdown-toggle').length) {
closeble = true;
} else {
closeble = false;
}
},
'hide.bs.dropdown': function () {
return closeble;
}
});
});

Add/remove class on click - how do I remove the class on a second click area?

I have a menu with a dropdown, where the LI element gets an activeclass on click. I have, after a lot if struggle, managed to set a script that sets an active class to an div that I have hidden, which shows on the click as an overlay of the site (under the dropdown). everything works as It should, except if I click outside the dropdown to close it instead of clicking the menubutton. This doesnt change my overlay div's class- how do I change my script to work on clicks outside the dropdown aswell, and what should I target here?
The hidden div:
<div id="site-overlay"></div>
script:
$.noConflict();
jQuery(document).ready(function(){
jQuery('li').on('click', function(){
if(jQuery(this).hasClass('active')) {
jQuery("#site-overlay").addClass("active");
} else {
jQuery("#site-overlay").removeClass("active");
}
})
});
This will work:
$.noConflict();
jQuery(document).ready(function () {
jQuery('li').on('click', function () {
if (jQuery(this).hasClass('active')) {
jQuery("#site-overlay").addClass("active");
} else {
jQuery("#site-overlay").removeClass("active");
}
});
jQuery("#site-overlay").click(function () {
jQuery(this).removeClass("active");
});
});
Notice the new event handler.
You can add a click event to the document body and then check the click location:
$(document).click(function(event) {
if(!$(event.target).closest('#site-overlay').length) {
if($('#site-overlay').is(":visible")) {
$('#site-overlay').hide()
}
}
})
jQuery('li').on('click', function(){
...
}
This executes only when you click on 'li' element.
But what about clicking outside 'li' element?
Try to add or replace:
jQuery('body').on('click', function(){
if(jQuery('.megamenu li').hasClass('active')) {
jQuery("#site-overlay").addClass("active");
} else {
jQuery("#site-overlay").removeClass("active");
}
}

Jquery toggle class on click, and remove class if another menu item clicked

My code is:
$(document).ready(function() {
$(".more").click(function(e) {
$(this).toggleClass("open");
if (!$(".more").hasClass(".icon-arrow-down")) {
// alert('Yep has class');
$(this).toggleClass("icon-arrow-down");
$(this).toggleClass('icon-arrow-up');
}
else {
// alert('all ok');
}
});
});
A little messy as i was testing some things out. Basically i have a menu, with a .more class added for dropdowns. People on mobile click the more, which adds a class of .open to the menu so people can see it. Now my problem is, this code doesn't seem to work 100% of the time.
Sometimes the classes get confused and i end up with a menu open, but a class of icon-arrow-down still.
And also, how would i add something in so that the open class gets removed if another more button is clicked?
Help appreciated as always.
In menus I always use something like this:
$(document).ready(function() {
$(".more").click(function(e) {
if($(this).hasClass("open")) {
// if it's open then just close it
$(this).removeClass("open");
} else {
// if it's closed, then close everything else and open it
$(".more").removeClass("open");
$(this).addClass("open");
}
/* TODO: now do something similar with icon-arrow */
});
});
Shouldn't you just be checking if the current element has the .icon-arrow-down class. So rather than
if (!$(".more").hasClass(".icon-arrow-down"))
this
if (!$(this).hasClass(".icon-arrow-down"))
Maybe consider using
$(".more").click(function(e) {
if( $(this).hasClass("open") ) {
$(this).removeClass("open").addClass("closed");
} else {
// if other menus are open remove open class and add closed
$(this).siblings().removeClass("open").addClass("closed");
$(this).removeClass("closed").addClass("open");
}
});
Then use the .open and .closed class to set your arrow styles
Fiddle here.
Simple but shows you what you can do.
You could remove the class .open from all and then add it to the clicked one:
$(document).ready(function() {
var $more = $(".more");
$more.click(function(e) {
var $this = $(this);
if ($this.hasClass("open") {
$more.removeClass("open");
} else {
$more.removeClass("open");
$this.addClass("open");
}
});
});
