I have one html which display data in table format by reading XLS file.This page giving two option to user. first is to ask user to upload xls file and second is to user already uploaded files by other users.
for first option (user upload file)
I am using JavaScript to fetch file data and convert it into html data.
beginFileHandling(e) {
let file = (e.target.files || e.dataTransfer.files)[0]
convertTodata(file) //this function has logic of reading file and convert it to data array for presentation in HTML
}
but for the second option (user can choose server files)
I need to have file object to make it work by upper method convertTodata(file). How can I achieve it using JavaScript or nodejs.
suppose I have file on server at following path 'docs/Test-files/employee.xls'
I am using xmlhttp to grab that file but how can I write it to JavaScript file object to use same method convertTodata(file).
var result = null;
var xmlhttp = new XMLHttpRequest();
xmlhttp.open("GET", 'docs/Test-files/employee.xls', false);
xmlhttp.send();
if (xmlhttp.status == 200) {
result = xmlhttp.responseText;
}

I can send files from the browser to the server using drag'n'drop and this code simply works fine:
var temp = new FormData();
temp.append("file_content",e.originalEvent.dataTransfer.files[0]);
//Ajax POST here...
Then I make a POST request (Ajax) to send that file to PHP and PHP can manipulate that file using $_FILES[file_content]. Easy.
My problem is that sometimes the user drops a folder and I already can manipulate the files inside that folder with JS in order to send them via Ajax. My problem is that PHP cant manipulate the $_FILE anymore, it is empty. My code:
var reader = entry.createReader();
reader.readEntries(function(entries) {
entries.forEach(function(dir,key) {
if (dir.isFile) {
var temp = new FormData();
temp.append("file_content",dir);
//Ajax POST here...
}
});
});
So I need someway to convert dir (which is of type FileEntry) to type File (e.originalEvent.dataTransfer.files[0]). How can I do this?
I am trying to show multiple xml file into html. I able get single xml file show in html table by using xmlhttp.open("GET", "204S_2000_02_17_00_30_357.xml", true). However, I can't get multiple xml file using this function.
I had tried using xmlhttp.open("GET", "*.xml", true) but doesn't get any output.
It's any solution or method to "GET" the multiple xml file into html?
Noted: xml file will continuously generate in folder with random name.(example 204S_2000_02_XX_XX_XX_XX.xml).
code that show single xml file in html table
function loadXMLDoc() {
var xmlhttp = new XMLHttpRequest();
xmlhttp.onreadystatechange = function() {
if (this.readyState == 4 && this.status == 200) {
myFunction(this);
}
};
xmlhttp.open("GET", "204S_2000_02_17_00_30_357.xml", true);
xmlhttp.send();
}
function myFunction(xml) {
//coding....
}
One HTTP request gets one HTTP response.
In general, you can't get multiple files back from a single request using a wildcard.
You could, if you wrote suitable server-side code, have the server recognise a wildcard in the URL and respond by (for example) sending a zip file containing all the files that matched, or generating a new XML document containing the contents of all the files that matched.
Generally, however, you will make a separate request for each resource you want. Having determined all the URLs you wanted to request, you would probably want to use an API that supported promises (i.e. fetch instead of XMLHttpRequest) so you could feed them into Promise.all and run the next stage of the program once you had collected all the data.
I am using a node sever to send a table from a sqlite db to the browser. This table contains filename and path of a pdf file that I want to render on the browser. Until now I was using hard coded paths for the the pdf file and rendering. But now i have setup a get route and a controller in node such that whenever '/content' is hit in browser , the server queries the database and and sends the data to the client. To the send the data I am using
res.render('content/index',{data:queryData});
Now, how do I access this data using client side javascript so that I can pass the path of the pdf file to the function that renders the pdf? I have done research and the nearest answer I got was using XMLHttpRequest. I tried this method
var xhr = new XMLHttpRequest();
const path = "http://localhost:3000/content";
xhr.onreadystatechange = function () {
if (xhr.readyState == 4 && xhr.status == 200)
{
var myResponseText = xhr.responseText;
console.log(myResponseText);
}
};
xhr.open('get', path, true);
xhr.send();
When I do this I get the entire html code for the view. Not the data I expected. How do I solve this issue. I have done some more reading while writing this post and I suppose. I have set a header somewhere? But the documentation says
app.render(view, [locals], callback)
which means res.render can take local variables, shouldn't be setting the headers?
You should return json instead of render template:
app.get('content/index', (req, res) => {
res.json({data: queryData});
});
I am using pdf.js
PDF.js needs the PDF file, e.g.:
pdfjsLib.getDocument('helloworld.pdf')
I'm assuming your queryData goes something like this:
{ filename: 'file.pdf', path: './path/to/file.pdf' }
I'm not sure what's in your content/index or what path this is on, but you obviously need to find a way to make your PDF file ('./path/to/file.pdf') available (as a download). See Express's built-in static server or res.download() to do that.
Once you have the PDF file available as a download, plug that path into PDF.js's .getDocument('/content/file.pdf') and do the rest to render the PDF onto the canvas or whatever.
Hope that helps.
I apologize in the advance as I am a total beginner.
I have a pre-existing html form with text fields. I need to have a button that will allow me to upload a txt file (since when trying to look for answer about this, I learned javascript can't just access a file from my PC without me actively uploading it). Then I need the values from this txt file inserted into the text fields (for example, the form has: name, last name, phone etc - and the file will fill out this info).
I am going crazy trying to collect bits and pieces from other people's questions. any help would be greatly appreciated!
it depends on how you would like to have this handled, there are basically two options:
File Upload and page redirect
you could provide a file upload form to upload your textfile, redirect to the same page via form submission, handle the data on serverside (e.g. parse the file and get the values out of it) and let the server inject the values as default properties for the form file which is returned to the browser
XMLHttpRequest File Upload
in modern browsers, the native xhr object supports an upload property, so you could send the file via that upload property. it has to be sent to a serverside script that parses the file and returns the values in a fitting format, e.g. json (which would look like this: {'name':'somename', 'lastName':'someothername'}). then you have to register an eventlistener on completion of this upload (e.g. onload) and set these values on javascript side.
check this out for XMLHttpRequest upload (better solution in my opinion): https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/API/XMLHttpRequest/Using_XMLHttpRequest#Submitting_forms_and_uploading_files
edit:
well, the easiest solution would be just to provide a textfield and paste the content of the file into this field, hit a button and the content is parsed. then you wouldn't rely on network traffic or even a serverside handling, but could do everything with javascript, e.g. like this:
dom:
<textarea id="tf"></textarea>
<button id="parse">fill form!</button>
js:
var tf = document.getElementById("tf");
document.getElementById("parse").addEventListener("click", function(){
var formData = JSON.parse(tf.value);
//if your textfile is in json format, the formData object now has all values
});
edit: from the link i posted in the comments:
<!-- The HTML -->
<input id="the-file" name="file" type="file">
<button id="sendfile">send</button>
and
document.getElementById('sendfile').addEventListener("click", function(){
var fileInput = document.getElementById('the-file');
var file = fileInput.files[0];
var formData = new FormData();
formData.append('file', file);
var xhr = new XMLHttpRequest();
// Add any event handlers here...
xhr.open('POST', '/upload/path', true);
xhr.onreadystatechange = function(){
if(xhr.readyState == 4 && xhr.status == 200){
var values = JSON.parse(xhr.responseText);
//these are your input elements you want to fill!
formNameInput.setAttribute('value', values.name);
formFirstNameInput.setAttribute('value', values.firstName);
}
}
xhr.send(formData);
});
as already said, your serverside has to parse the file and respond with json
I'm trying to create a menu from an XML file. The HTML file that I want to create the menu in, is located my main project folder. This folder also contains an xml folder in which my xml file (fruitDB.xml) is located. I understood that there are several ways of loading XML files and that some ways only work online. Eventually the menu is used for an HTML5 mobile app (don't know if this is usefull information), build using Appcelerator.
I've read some sources but it's still not clear to me how I can load an XML file. I have the following code in my header tag:
<script type="text/javascript">
function init(){
var xmlhttp = new XMLHttpRequest();
xmlhttp.open("GET", "xml/fruitDB.xml", false);
xmlhttp.setRequestHeader('Content-Type', 'text/xml');
xmlhttp.send();
var xmlDoc = xmlhttp.responseXML;
var Fruits = xmlDoc[];
alert(Fruits);
for (var i = 0; i < Fruits.children.length; i++) {
alert("hi");
var Fruit = Fruits.children[i];
var Name = Fruits.getElementsByTagName("name");
var Thumb = Fruits.getElementsByTagName("image");
var list = document.getElementById("menuButtons");
var listEntry = document.createElement("LI");
listEntry.document.createTextNode(Name);
list.appendChild(listEntry);
}
}
</script>
What I try to do here is open the init(); function using , load the xml file, though I'm not sure if giving a path (like I'm doing) is correct. After the XML is loaded it should create new 's in my HTML file and give them name (and eventually an image) which are stored in the xml file until all items from the xml are placed as list items. Sorry for the long sentence :P.
At xmlhttp.send(); I recieved the following error in my console:
XMLHttpRequest cannot load file:///D:/folder/folder/folder/xml/fruitDB.xml. Received an invalid response. Origin 'null' is therefore not allowed access.
Does this mean that using XMLHttpRequest won't work on local files and if not what other way can I use in order to achieve my goal?
XML doesn't have great support in Titanium. Also XML is often a pain to work with..
Why not use a JSON payload / document instead!
Format the JSON so it is an array of fruit objects
Then you just parse the payload into a javascript object that comes back from the web-service or your local file something like this:
var fruits = JSON.parse(yourHTTPObj.responseData);
Now you can loop over the fruit objects and say:
if (fruits[i].type === 'Apple') { //do something };
