Why is this JavaScript button click failing to call a function? - javascript

I am beginner of javascript.
but it doesn't work. plz help me.
I am using Microsoft VSCode.
This is my main.html.
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html lang="en">
<head>
<meta charset="UTF-8">
<meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1.0"/>
<meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="ie=edge"/>
<link rel="javascript" src="script.js"/>
<link rel="stylesheet" href="https://unpkg.com/papercss#1.4.1/dist/paper.min.css"/>
<link rel="stylesheet" href="style.css"/>
<title>Ultimate R-S-P</title>
</head>
<body>
<div class="login_box">
<h1><span class="badge" id="loginbtn">main</span>
</div>
</body>
</html>
This is script.js
console.log("start!");
var loginBtn = document.getElementById("loginbtn");
loginBtn.onclick = function(){
console.log("onclick event start");
};

You need change the:
<link rel="javascript" src="script.js"/>
into:
<script src="script.js"></script>

first choice:put script at the bottom of the body
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html lang="en">
<head>
<meta charset="UTF-8">
<meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1.0" />
<meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="ie=edge" />
<script src="script.js"></script>
<link rel="stylesheet" href="https://unpkg.com/papercss#1.4.1/dist/paper.min.css" />
<link rel="stylesheet" href="style.css" />
<title>Ultimate R-S-P</title>
</head>
<body>
<div class="login_box">
<h1><span class="badge" id="loginbtn">main</span></h1>
</div>
<script>
console.log("start!");
var loginBtn = document.getElementById("loginbtn");
loginBtn.onclick = function() {
console.log("onclick event start");
};
</script>
</body>
</html>
second choice:move your script content to the window.onload=function(){}
window.onload = function() {
console.log("start!");
var loginBtn = document.getElementById("loginbtn");
loginBtn.onclick = function() {
console.log("onclick event start");
};
};
if you choose this,you have to change your script tag
<link rel="javascript" src="script.js"/>
to
<script src="script.js"></script>

The < link > tag defines a link between a document and an external resource.
The < link > tag is used to link to external style sheets.
The < script > tag is used to define a client-side script (JavaScript).
So, you need to change this code:
<link rel="javascript" src="script.js"/>
into this:
<script type="text/javascript" src="script.js"></script>

Use this tag not the link tag
<script src="script.js"></script>
Also fix your html you are missing an h1 end tag
<h1><span class="badge" id="loginbtn">main</span></h1>

Add Script tag as below.
You have used link tag instead of script.
<script type="text/javascript" src="script.js">

actually i was confused.
that was location of javascript.
solution
<body>
<div class="login_box">
<h1><span class="badge" id="loginbtn">main</span>
</div>
**<script type="text/javascript" src="script.js"></script>**
</body>
i put the javascript code in the body.

how to set up datetimepicker

I can't seem to set this jquery datetimepicker. I believe I am following the instructions correctly. However, only the input box displays. After inspecting I saw these errors in the log
This the plugin I am trying to use.
https://xdsoft.net/jqplugins/datetimepicker/
previous code
<!doctype html>

So I found the original files hereenter link description here
and then changed my code to the following

but now I have a new error. Any ideas on what I am missing?
Mind the order and dependencies of your scripts and use eventlisteners:
To make it simple:
Load CSS first (DateTimePicker), load JS second (jQuery, Datetimepicker), initialize an eventlistener using $().ready().
<!doctype html>
<html lang="en">
<head>
<meta charset="utf-8">
<meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1">

<!-- Load JS second -->
<script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/3.6.0/jquery.min.js"></script>
<script src="https://cdnjs.cloudflare.com/ajax/libs/jquery-datetimepicker/2.5.20/jquery.datetimepicker.full.min.js" integrity="sha512-AIOTidJAcHBH2G/oZv9viEGXRqDNmfdPVPYOYKGy3fti0xIplnlgMHUGfuNRzC6FkzIo0iIxgFnr9RikFxK+sw=="

<!-- Initialize JS, setup eventlistener(s) -->
<script type="text/javascript">
jQuery(document).ready($ => $('#datetimepicker').datetimepicker());

<input id="datetimepicker" type="text" >

The code above will fix all your issues about where to put scripts and what to load (you where both loading the extended and minified version of the library)
See the following snippet:
jQuery('#datetimepicker').datetimepicker();
<link rel="stylesheet" href="https://cdnjs.cloudflare.com/ajax/libs/jquery-datetimepicker/2.3.7/jquery.datetimepicker.min.css" />

How to run js function after popover content loads - after button click?

I have this kind of bootstrap popover from W3 schools site and edited code for my situation (see onPopoverHtmlLoad() function):
<!DOCTYPE html>
<!-- https://www.w3schools.com/bootstrap/tryit.asp?filename=trybs_popover&stacked=h -->
<html lang="en">
<head>
<title>Bootstrap Example</title>
<meta charset="utf-8">
<meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1">
<link rel="stylesheet" href="https://maxcdn.bootstrapcdn.com/bootstrap/3.4.0/css/bootstrap.min.css">
<script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/3.3.1/jquery.min.js"></script>
<script src="https://maxcdn.bootstrapcdn.com/bootstrap/3.4.0/js/bootstrap.min.js"></script>
</head>
<body>
<div class="container">
<h3>Popover Example</h3>
Toggle popover
</div>
<script>
$(document).ready(function(){
$('[data-toggle="popover"]').popover();
});
//how to ensure to run this function on popoverHtmlDomLoad?
function onPopoverHtmlLoad(){
document.getElementById("inpopover_button").innerHTML = "true"
}
</script>
</body>
</html>
Question is, how can I change HTML data content of popover after I hit
popover button/trigger, please? Is there some function like
onHtmlDomPopoverLoad?
I appreciate solutions in Javascript, but accept JQuery help too. I was looking for similar issues but didn't find anything yet.
You can replace onPopoverHtmlLoad with:
function onPopoverHtmlLoad(){
$("#inpopover_button").text("true")
}
And attach the event handler with:
$('[data-toggle="popover"]').on('shown.bs.popover', onPopoverHtmlLoad)
See the codepen: https://codepen.io/anon/pen/MxXwQe
read about bootstrap popover events here :
https://getbootstrap.com/docs/4.0/components/popovers/#events
$('#myPopover').on('hidden.bs.popover', function () {
// do something…
})
<!DOCTYPE html>
<!-- https://www.w3schools.com/bootstrap/tryit.asp?filename=trybs_popover&stacked=h -->
<html lang="en">

<script>
$(document).ready(function(){
$('[data-toggle="popover"]').popover()
.on('shown.bs.popover', onPopoverHtmlLoad);
});
//how to ensure to run this function on popoverHtmlDomLoad?
function onPopoverHtmlLoad(){
document.getElementById("inpopover_button").innerHTML = "true"
}

jquery mobile - run function from another page without disable ajax

i have two page test1.php and test2.php when i click on my button for going to test2.php my function not running in test2.php only if i put data-ajax="false" in said button it working but i want without disable ajax .. Is there a way ?
test1.php
<html lang="en">
<head>
<meta charset="utf-8">
<meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1">
<link rel="stylesheet" href="//code.jquery.com/mobile/1.4.5/jquery.mobile-
1.4.5.min.css">
<script src="//code.jquery.com/jquery-1.10.2.min.js"></script>
<script src="//code.jquery.com/mobile/1.4.5/jquery.mobile-1.4.5.min.js">
</script>
</head>
<body >
<div id="page-1" data-role="page" >
<div data-role="content">
click
</div>
</div>
</body>
</html>
test2.php
<html lang="en">
<head>
<meta charset="utf-8">
<meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1">
<link rel="stylesheet" href="//code.jquery.com/mobile/1.4.5/jquery.mobile-
1.4.5.min.css">
<script src="//code.jquery.com/jquery-1.10.2.min.js"></script>
<script src="//code.jquery.com/mobile/1.4.5/jquery.mobile-1.4.5.min.js">
</script>
</head>
<body >
<div id="page-1" data-role="page" >
<div data-role="content">
</div>
</div>
<script type="text/javascript">
$(function() {
alert("hi");
})
</script>
</body>
</html>
If you want to run an external function, you can just create a file, let's call it myfunction.js. Then you add it below you jquery includes, like this:
...
<script src="//code.jquery.com/mobile/1.4.5/jquery.mobile-1.4.5.min.js">
<script src="myfunction.js"></script>
And in "myfunction.js" you add this:
$("a").click(function(){
alert("Hi");
});
Kind of like I did in here: https://jsfiddle.net/uzt27mm2/ just call the script from an external .js file.

How to dynamically add a canvas inside script tag to HTML using Jquery

I have the following problem: I need to be able to add dynamically a canvas (to be precise, a specific canvas, like this one https://web.chemdoodle.com/tutorial/2d-structure-canvases/sketcher-canvas/) in .js file but my several attempts failed. I want to insert the canvas into <div id="sketcher_canvas"></div>.The canvas can be created inside script tag only, so I need to add script tags to HTML too. Here is my HTML:
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html lang="en">
<head>
<title>ELN</title>
<meta charset="UTF-8">
<meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="chrome=1">
<meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1.0">
<link rel="stylesheet" src="//normalize-css.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/normalize.css" />
<link href="{{url_for('static', filename='css/main.css')}}" rel='stylesheet' type='text/css'>
<script src="http://code.jquery.com/jquery-1.11.0.min.js"></script>
<script src="{{url_for('static', filename='js/main2.js')}}"></script>
<!-- ChemDoodle -->
<link rel="stylesheet" href="{{url_for('static', filename='ChemDoodle/install/ChemDoodleWeb.css')}}" type="text/css">
<script type="text/javascript" src="{{url_for('static', filename='ChemDoodle/install/ChemDoodleWeb.js')}}"></script>
<!--these two are required by the SketcherCanvas plugin-->
<link rel="stylesheet" href="{{ url_for('static', filename='ChemDoodle/install/uis/jquery-ui-1.10.3.custom.css')}}" type="text/css">
<script type="text/javascript" src="{{url_for('static', filename='ChemDoodle/install/uis/ChemDoodleWeb-uis.js')}}"></script>
</head>
<body>
<script>
function make_canvas(){
sketcher = new ChemDoodle.SketcherCanvas('sketcher',600,200);
};
</script>
<div id='sketcher_canvas'>
</div>
<script src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.9.1/jquery.min.js"></script>
</body>
</html>
And this is my .js:
$(document).ready(function(){
// First option
$('sketcher_canvas').append('<script>make_canvas();<\/script>);
// Second option
var script = document.createElement("script");
script.type = "text/javascript";
script.text = "make_canvas()";
var div = document.getElementById('sketcher_canvas');
div.innerHTML = script.text;
});
Any comments/suggestions are highly appreciated!
It looks like you are making things more complicated than they need to be. You don't need to make a new script to call a function from another script. You can call that function with a button like so:
<script>
function make_canvas(){
var newCanvas = document.createElement("canvas");
newCanvas.id = "sketcher";
newCanvas.class = "ChemDoodleWebComponent";
document.getElementById("sketcher_canvas").appendChild(newCanvas);
sketcher = new ChemDoodle.SketcherCanvas('sketcher',600,200);
};
</script>
<button onclick="make_canvas()">Make Canvas</button>
<div id='sketcher_canvas'>
</div>
EDIT: I have updated the make_canvas function. You can see how it works in this fiddle.
