position().left isn't giving the expected value - javascript

In the employee section of a Wordpress site, I'm trying to have the bio slide open in the correct position when you click on each employee photo.
It's working well when the row is full width (4 columns) and in mobile (1 column) but in the 2 column layout (480px to 882px), position().left is returning 0, so the negative margin isn't being properly applied and the bio goes offscreen.
I can't for the life of me figure out why this is... Any help is greatly appreciated!
The site in question: http://contractor-marketing.website/
The HTML (simplified):
<div class="row">
<div class="column column_1">
<!--content-->
<div class="bio-full"><!--content--></div>
</div>
<div class="column column_2">
<!--content-->
<div class="bio-full"><!--content--></div>
</div>
<div class="column column_3">
<!--content-->
<div class="bio-full"><!--content--></div>
</div>
<div class="column column_4">
<!--content-->
<div class="bio-full"><!--content--></div>
</div>
</div>
The JS:
jQuery('.column').each(function(s, el) {
jQuery(this).find('.bio-full').eq(0).css('margin-left',-(jQuery(el).position().left));
});

Check my example below. Although I took a different approach, it essentially does what you want, and it even animates the element transition.
NOTE: This animation will happen EACH time you press the animate button. You must prevent such animation from happening more than once (if that is the behavior you are looking for). Also, change the $('#animate') selector and click event to the event of your choice.
$('#animate').click(function() {
$(".bio-full").animate({
left: "+=300",
}, 1000, function() {
// Animation complete.
});
});
body{
padding:0;
margin:0;
}
.bio-full{
background-color: red;
display:hidden;
position:relative;
width:300px;
left:-300px;
}
<script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/2.1.1/jquery.min.js"></script>
<button id="animate">Animate</button>
<div class="row">
<div class="column column_1">
<!--content-->
<div class="bio-full"><h1>Profile</h1></div>
</div>
<div class="column column_2">
<!--content-->
<div class="bio-full"><h1>Profile</h1></div>
</div>
<div class="column column_3">
<!--content-->
<div class="bio-full"><h1>Profile</h1></div>
</div>
<div class="column column_4">
<!--content-->
<div class="bio-full"><h1>Profile</h1></div>
</div>
</div>
I hope this helps!
Cheers!

jQuery .draggable() either doesn't drag or drags too many cards

I'm making a web app for poker cards. The idea is you drag cards from a deck to a hand/board and it ranks it for you. The functionality of the site works; I just can't get the cards to be able to drag from the deck to the board.
Draggable doesn't work on the card, and the text of the card is highlighted instead.
Draggable does work, but it drags more cards than I want it to. For example, I'll try to drag the 3 of diamonds and for some reason it grabs all the 3s and some of the 4s.
How can I get dragging a single card working correctly?
.card {
height: 9.2em;
width: 6.61em;
padding-left: .2em;
font-size: 12px;
margin:.2em;
float:left;
clear:both;
position: relative; }
<div class="container-fluid" id="deck">
{% for card in deck %}
<div class="drag">
<div id="{{card.rank}}{{card.suit}}" class="card rank{{ card.rank }}{{ card.suit }}">
{{ card.rank }} <br/> &{{ card.suit_verbose }};
</div>
</div>
{% endfor %}
</div>
<script>
$(function() {
$(".drag").draggable();
});
</script>
EDIT: here's the Jinja html:
<div class="container" id="wrapper">
<h1 class="container text-center">
two pair
</h1>
<div class="panel panel-default" id="canvas">
<div class="container-fluid" id="board">
<div class="row col-md-1">
<span class="card empty"/>
</div>
<div class="row col-md-1">
<span class="card empty"/>
</div>
...
</div>
</div>
</div>
Strange, but it looks like you simply forgot to add jQuery UI to your scripts. I added jQuery UI to your fiddle and it works (checked on Chrome and FF). Check it out: https://jsfiddle.net/wx5oz45g/1/ . Only other change was adding cursor: pointer in CSS to class .drag so I could see better what should be responsive.

Use of the :not selector

I have a website with different sections. I have jQuery to slide between these sections.
But now I have a link in a section which points to another section.
HTML:
<div class="section" id="one">
<div class="row">
<p>This is some text</p>
</div>
<div class="row">
<img src="button"/>
</div>
</div>
<div class="section" id="tow">
<div class="row">
<p>This is some text</p>
</div>
<div class="row">
<img src="button"/>
</div>
</div>
<div class="section" id="ordernow">
<div class="row">
<p>This is some text</p>
</div>
<div class="row">
<img src="button"/>
</div>
</div>
<div class="section" id="four">
<div class="row">
<p>This is some text</p>
</div>
<div class="row">
<img src="button"/>
</div>
</div>
jQuery:
// onclick on an object with class "section" scroll to this object
$('div.section').click(function() {
$.scrollTo($(this), 800);
});
function scrollOrderNow(){
$('html,body').animate({
scrollTop: $("#ordernow").offset().top
}, 1000);
}
The problem is that if I click on the link scrollOrderNow() the page slides to the order page and than back to the section because the link is in that section.
Could you please help me figure this out?
Thank You!
You can use a single click handler and determine what to do based on which element was clicked inside the section. For this, it's best to distinguish the clickable element by giving it a class:
<div class="section" id="four">
<div class="row">
<p>This is some text</p>
</div>
<div class="row">
<img src="button" class="scroll-to-order"/>
</div>
</div>
The the click handler code:
$('div.section').on('click', function(evt) {
var $target = $(evt.target);
if ($target.is('.scroll-to-order')) {
// the image itself was clicked, so scroll to ordernow
$('html,body').animate({
scrollTop: $("#ordernow").offset().top
}, 1000);
} else {
// something else inside the section was clicked, scroll to section
$.scrollTo($(this), 800);
}
});
You'll need to put return false to your scrollOrderNow() function.
function scrollOrderNow(){
$('html,body').animate({
scrollTop: $("#ordernow").offset().top
}, 1000);
return false;
}
This way, your links will not react and the hash will not be appended to the URL, leaving the page where it is.

jade extend and include overwrites files for no reason

SlideBase.jade
.slideWrap
.slideInner
block slides
slideSet1.jade
extends SlideBase
append slides
.slide set1slide1
.slide set1slide2
.slide set1slide3
slideSet2.jade
extends SlideBase
append slides
.slide set2slide1
.slide set2slide2
.slide set2slide3
output.jade
#mySlides
p some copy
#slideZone
include slideSet1.jade
include slideSet2.jade
expected result:
<div id="mySlides>
<p>some copy</p>
<div id="slideZone>
<div class="slideWrap>
<div class="slideInner>
<div class="slide">set1slide1</div>
<div class="slide">set1slide2</div>
<div class="slide">set1slide3</div>
</div>
</div>
<div class="slideWrap>
<div class="slideInner>
<div class="slide">set2slide1</div>
<div class="slide">set2slide2</div>
<div class="slide">set2slide3</div>
</div>
</div>
</div>
</div>
actual result:
<div id="mySlides>
<p>some copy</p>
<div id="slideZone>
<div class="slideWrap>
<div class="slideInner>
<div class="slide">set1slide1</div>
<div class="slide">set1slide2</div>
<div class="slide">set1slide3</div>
</div>
</div>
<div class="slideWrap>
<div class="slideInner>
<div class="slide">set1slide1</div>
<div class="slide">set1slide2</div>
<div class="slide">set1slide3</div>
</div>
</div>
</div>
</div>
Rather than getting slideSet2.jade, jade compiler just repeats slideSet1.jade in its place. What am I doing wrong here?
DISCLOSURE:
I am running on Codekit with Jade version 0.27.2; and any accepted answer much address why its not working in my environment.
This issue was fixed in a newer version of jade. And CodeKit's version should be brought up to date.

How i can select specific div from multiple divs in jquery

I have something like this, and i need to show every div called "plink" just in the main div of each parent, so i tried to fadeIn ".plink" but its doing the same function for all the divs of "plink"
<script>
$(document).ready(function(){
$('.plink').hide();
$('.project').mouseover(function(){
$(this).next('.plink').fadeIn(400);
});
$('.project').mouseleave(function(){
$(this).next('.plink').fadeOut(200);
});
});
</script>
<div class="project">
<div class="plink">
<div class="go"></div>
<div class="goplus"><img src="images/more.png" border="0"/></div>
</div>
<div class="pic"><img src="images/portfolio_pic2.png" border="0" alt="projectname"/></div>
<div class="title">Test1</div>
</div>
<div class="spacer_project"></div>
<div class="project">
<div class="plink">
<div class="go"></div>
<div class="goplus"><img src="images/more.png" border="0"/></div>
</div>
<div class="pic"><img src="images/portfolio_pic.png" border="0" alt="projectname"/></div>
<div class="title">test2</div>
</div>
You can use find() instead of next()...
$(this).find('.plink').fadeIn(400);
because this is your .project div then you need to "find" the child elements that you are looking for. Using next() means you will get the very next element if it matches the selector (i.e. it is check to see if the next .project div matches the .plink selector)
I would go the FIND route like musefan suggested. Here is the solution code:
http://jsfiddle.net/bx7YC/
<div class="project">
<div class="plink">
<div class="go">go</div>
<div class="goplus">goplus</div>
</div>
<div class="pic">pic</div>
<div class="title">Test1</div>
</div>
<div class="spacer_project"></div>
<div class="project">
<div class="plink">
<div class="go">go</div>
<div class="goplus">goplus</div>
</div>
<div class="pic">pic</div>
<div class="title">Test2</div>
</div>
$('.plink').hide();
$('.project').mouseover(function(){
$(this).find('.plink').fadeIn(400);
});
$('.project').mouseleave(function(){
$(this).find('.plink').fadeOut(200);
});
I replaced the broken img links with simple text for the jsfiddle.

jquery next() not working?

Ive made a fiddle of my problem here.
http://jsfiddle.net/E9cUS/1/
JavaScript:
$('.top').click(function () {
var thisPage = $(this).closest('.yesNoItem');
$('.yesNoTick').stop().animate({"opacity" : 1},400, function () {
thisPage.find('.no .top').stop().animate({"opacity" : 0},400, function () {
$(this).css("display", "none");
});
});
});
$('.yesNoNext').click(function () {
$(this).closest('.yesNoItem').stop().animate({"opacity" : 0},400, function () {
//This isnt working? Please advise?
$(this).next('.yesNoItem').stop().animate({"opacity" : 1},400);
});
});
HTML:
<div id="stage">
<div class="yesNoOuter">
<div class="yesNoItem" style="opacity:1;">
<div class="yesNoContainer yes">
<div class="top">
<div class="yesNoTick"></div>
</div>
<div class="bottom">
</div>
</div>
<div class="yesNoContainer no">
<div class="top">
<div class="yesNoTick"></div>
</div>
<div class="bottom">
<p>Text 1</p>
<div class="yesNoNext">More</span>
</div>
</div>
</div>
<div class="yesNoItem">
<div class="yesNoContainer yes">
<div class="top">
<div class="yesNoTick"></div>
</div>
<div class="bottom">
</div>
</div>
<div class="yesNoContainer no">
<div class="top">
<div class="yesNoTick"></div>
</div>
<div class="bottom">
<p>Text 2</p>
<div class="yesNoNext">More</span>
</div>
</div>
</div>
</div>
</div>

I've also put the line of code thats not working.
Bascially it is hiding the element that I want, but not fading the next one in...
Can any one advise based upon my code? Many thanks!
You had an error in your markup
<div class="yesNoNext">More</span>
if you correct that, next() works http://jsfiddle.net/E9cUS/2/
I think your HTML got messed up. The second .yesNoItem element is not a sibling but a child of the first .yesNoItem element (right click -> inspect element).
Probably because of <div class="yesNoNext">More</span> (opening div, closing span). The browser will attempt to correct this automatically and just ignore the closing span tag (at least this seems to be the case if you inspect the DOM).
If you correct your HTML it should work (at least it should select the right element).
If they are actually supposed to be nested, then .next() is the wrong method anyways.
