jquery add values dropdown using data attribute - javascript

I have a simple HTML form:
<div class="form-group">
<label class="control-label col-md-2">Monday<span class="required"> * </span></label>
<div class="col-md-5">
<select name="monday_main" id="monday_main_list" class="form-control">
<option value=""></option>
<option value="Carlow" data-staff="1" data-price="100" data-km="100" data-call="200" >Carlow</option>
<option value="Cavan" data-staff="1" data-price="100" data-km="100" data-call="200" >Cavan</option>
</select>
</div>
<div class="col-md-5">
<select name="monday_side" id="monday_side_list" class="form-control">
<option value=""></option>
<option value="Dublin" data-staff="1" data-price="200" data-km="200" data-call="400" >Dublin</option>
<option value="Galway" data-staff="1" data-price="200" data-km="200" data-call="400" >Galway</option>
</select>
</div>
</div>
<input type="number" placeholder="" value="" name="amountPrice" id="amountPrice">
<input type="number" placeholder="" value="" name="amountKm" id="amountKm">
<input type="number" placeholder="" value="" name="amountCall" id="amountCall">
<input type="number" placeholder="" value="" name="amountStaff" id="amountStaff">
What I need to achieve is to calculate values for each data attribute separately (e.g. separate value for data-staff, data-price, data-km and data-call) on changing options and then displaying values in 4 separate input fields.
I am not sure even if it is possible, but if so I would be very grateful if someone could help me

// good idea to cache elements you'll be re-using
var dropdowns = $('select'),
inputPrice = $('#amountPrice'),
inputKm = $('#amountKm'),
inputCall = $('#amountCall'),
inputStaff = $('#amountStaff');
// attach 'onchange' event handler to all dropdowns
dropdowns.change(function () {
var amountPrice = 0,
amountKm = 0,
amountCall = 0,
amountStaff = 0;
// for each dropdown, tally amounts
dropdowns.each(function () {
// get selected option
var option = $('option:selected', this);
amountPrice += parseInt(option.data('price'), 10);
amountKm += parseInt(option.data('km'), 10);
amountCall += parseInt(option.data('call'), 10);
amountStaff += parseInt(option.data('staff'), 10);
});
// set inputs
inputPrice.val(amountPrice);
inputKm.val(amountKm);
inputCall.val(amountCall);
inputStaff.val(amountStaff);
});
<script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/2.1.1/jquery.min.js"></script>
<div class="form-group">
<label class="control-label col-md-2">Monday<span class="required"> * </span></label>
<div class="col-md-5">
<select name="monday_main" id="monday_main_list" class="form-control">
<option value=""></option>
<option value="Carlow" data-staff="1" data-price="100" data-km="100" data-call="200" >Carlow</option>
<option value="Cavan" data-staff="1" data-price="100" data-km="100" data-call="200" >Cavan</option>
</select>
</div>
<div class="col-md-5">
<select name="monday_side" id="monday_side_list" class="form-control">
<option value=""></option>
<option value="Dublin" data-staff="1" data-price="200" data-km="200" data-call="400" >Dublin</option>
<option value="Galway" data-staff="1" data-price="200" data-km="200" data-call="400" >Galway</option>
</select>
</div>
</div>
<input type="number" placeholder="" value="" name="amountPrice" id="amountPrice">
<input type="number" placeholder="" value="" name="amountKm" id="amountKm">
<input type="number" placeholder="" value="" name="amountCall" id="amountCall">
<input type="number" placeholder="" value="" name="amountStaff" id="amountStaff">

I am not sure if I follow your question but you can access to those data with a change listener.
$('#monday_main_list').on('change', function() {
if($(this).val()!=='') {
var selectedOption = $(this).find('option[value=' + this.value + ']').first();
if (selectedOption) {
var data = selectedOption.data();
console.log(data);
}
}
})

Show/hide div and clear filed value when change

I have some div that will show depending on the select value. Suppose there are two input fields name 'Apartment and Bechelor' If I select 'Apartment' some div and select field will show related to the apartment. The problem I am facing is, I can't clear the field value when selecting another. Like, after selecting 'Apartment', I will select Bachelor. Now it should be clear the value of the field which was under the apartment so that If I again select 'Apartment', I will get default values or clean fields.
<div id="residential" >
<input type="radio" value="apartment" id="type_apartment" name="type" >
<label for="type_apartment" class="radio-inline"> Apartment/Flat </label>
<input type="radio" value="bachelor" id="type_bachelor" name="type">
<label for="type_bachelor" class="radio-inline"> Bechelor </label>
</div>
<!-- show this when apartment select -->
<div class="form-group " id="tenant-flat">
<select id="tenant-type" class="form-control" name="tenant">
<option value="">Anyone</option>
<option value="family">Family</option>
<option value="bechelor" >Bechelor</option>
</select>
</div>
<div class="form-group " id="flat-type">
<div class="col-sm-12">
<select id="" class="form-control" name="flat-type">
<option value="">Select Flat Type</option>
<option value="sublet" >Sublet</option>
<option value="full-flat" >Full Flat</option>
</select>
</div>
</div>
<!-- show this when bechelor select -->
<div class="form-group " id="r-type">
<div class="col-sm-12">
<select id="room" class="form-control" name="room_type">
<option value="">Select Room Type</option>
<option value="seat">Seat</option>
<option value="room" >Room</option>
</select>
</div>
</div>
<div class="form-group " id="tenant">
<div class="col-sm-12">
<select id="" class="form-control" name="tenant">
<option value="">Select Member</option>
<option value="family" >Family</option>
<option value="student" >Student</option>
<option value="job-holder" >Job Holder</option>
</select>
</div>
</div>
<script>
$(document).ready(function(){
$('#r-type').hide();
$('#tenant').hide();
$('#tenant-flat').hide();
$('#flat-type').hide();
$('.pretty input[type="radio"]').click(function(){
if($(this).attr('value') == 'apartment'){
$('#tenant-flat').show();
}
else{
$('#flat-type').hide();
}
});
var showDiv = document.getElementById("tenant-type");
showDiv.onchange = function(){
var hiddenDiv = document.getElementById("flat-type");
hiddenDiv.style.display = (this.value == "family") ? "block":"none";
var genderDiv = document.getElementById("gender");
genderDiv.style.display = (this.value == "bechelor") ? "block":"none";
};
$('.pretty input[type="radio"]').click(function(){
if($(this).attr('value') == 'bachelor' || $(this).attr('value') == 'sublet' || $(this).attr('value') == 'hostel' ){
$('#r-type').show();
$('#tenant').show();
$('#tenant-type').hide();
}
else{
$('#r-type').hide();
$('#tenant').hide();
$('#tenant-type').show();
}
});
});
</script>
to reset the dropdown options you can set the value of the select elements selectIndex property to 0 with this line:
$('.form-control').prop('selectedIndex', 0);
and in your code:
$(document).ready(function(){
$('#r-type').hide();
$('#tenant').hide();
$('#tenant-flat').hide();
$('#flat-type').hide();
$('#residential input[type="radio"]').click(function(){
if($(this).attr('value') == 'apartment'){
$('#tenant-flat').show();
$('#flat-type').show();
$('#r-type').hide();
$('#tenant').hide();
}
else{
$('#r-type').show();
$('#tenant').show();
$('#flat-type').hide();
$('#tenant-flat').hide();
}
$('.form-control').prop('selectedIndex', 0);
});
$('#tenent-type').on('change', function() {
if($('#flat-type').val =='family') {
$('#flat-type').show();
} else {
$('#flat-type').hide();
}
if($('#gender').val =='bechelor') {
$('#gender').show();
} else {
$('#gender').hide();
}
});
});

Multiple Values in Valvalue?

I am new in jquery and I got a very few knowledge I created an input field in which jquery grab a dropdown selected values if I put only one value in setting value field its working fine as I want to grab all var value in a single //Setting Value and also want only first two letters of the selected value: like if I choose dropdown value as Morning Class I want only "MO" and same for the rest variables as Section XI Class I am looking for only XI my code is given below:
Html Code
<form id="form1" method="post" enctype="multipart/form-data">
<div class="col-md-3">
<div class="form-group">
<select id="section_id" name="section_id" class="form-control" >
<option value="XI Class">XI Class</option>
<option value="XII Class">XII Class</option>
</select>
<div class="col-md-3">
<div class="form-group">
<select id="class_id" name="class_id" class="form-control" >
<option value="Morning Class">Morning Class</option>
<option value="Morning Class">Morning Class</option>
</select></div></div>
<div class="col-md-3">
<div class="form-group">
<select id="class_id" name="class_id" class="form-control" >
<option value="Morning Class">Morning Class</option>
<option value="Morning Class">Morning Class</option>
</select></div></div>
<div class="col-md-3">
<div class="form-group">
<input id="input" name="input" placeholder=""
type="text" class="form-control " value="" /></div></div>
</div>
</form>
jquery Code
$("#class_id,section_id").on("change",function(){
//Getting Value
var selValue = $("#class_id :selected").text();
var selValue1 = $("#section_id :selected").text();
//Setting Value
$("#input").val(selValue,selValue1);
});

Last-child not working inside iteration of div

In browser, the HTML is generated dynamically and is rendered as
<div id="dynamic-relationship-details">
<div id="count-status0" class="relationship-container form-group">
<div class="col-sm-1"></div>
<div class="col-sm-2">
<select id="relationship-type0" class="form-control"><option value="">Select Relationship</option><option value="Father">Father</option><option value="Mother">Mother</option><option value="Brother">Brother</option><option value="Sister">Sister</option><option value="Spouse">Spouse</option><option value="Guardian">Guardian</option></select>
</div>
<div class="col-sm-3">
<input type="text" name="relationship-type-name0" id="relationship-type-name0" class="form-control" placeholder="Name"></div><div class="col-sm-2"><input type="text" name="relationship-type-contact0" id="relationship-type-contact0" class="form-control" placeholder="Contact Number">
</div>
<button value="count-status0" class="remove-relationship-field btn btn-danger"><i class="fa fa-trash"></i></button>
</div><div id="count-status1" class="relationship-container form-group">
<div class="col-sm-1"></div>
<div class="col-sm-2">
<select id="relationship-type1" class="form-control"><option value="">Select Relationship</option><option value="Father">Father</option><option value="Mother">Mother</option><option value="Brother">Brother</option><option value="Sister">Sister</option><option value="Spouse">Spouse</option><option value="Guardian">Guardian</option></select>
</div>
<div class="col-sm-3">
<input type="text" name="relationship-type-name1" id="relationship-type-name1" class="form-control" placeholder="Name"></div><div class="col-sm-2"><input type="text" name="relationship-type-contact1" id="relationship-type-contact1" class="form-control" placeholder="Contact Number">
</div>
<button value="count-status1" class="remove-relationship-field btn btn-danger"><i class="fa fa-trash"></i></button>
</div>
</div>
The code is
// Relationship details Array
$(".relationship-container").each(function(i, obj) {
var $this = $(this);
$this.find("select").each(function() {
var relationshipTypeValue = $(this).val();
var relationshipName =$this.find("input[type=text]:first-child").val();
var relationshipContactNumber =$this.find("input[type=text]:last-child").val();
var innerRelationshipArray = {};
innerRelationshipArray = {
relationshipTypeValue: relationshipTypeValue,
relationshipName: relationshipName,
relationshipContactNumber: relationshipContactNumber
};
relationship_details_array.push(innerRelationshipArray);
});
});
I am trying to fetch values of contact numbers i.e with id's relationship-type-contact(n) values in the line "
var relationshipContactNumber =$this.find("input[type=text]:last-child").val();"
This is fetching values of first-child textboxes in the variable relationshipContactNumber in the loop.
Please help !!!
This should work, use the .first() and .last() selectors.
Another way, if you have access to alter the HTML, is to add class names for the input fields and select them by using that instead.
function getData() {
var relationship_details_array = [];
// Relationship details Array
$(".relationship-container").each(function(i, obj) {
var $this = $(this);
$this.find("select").each(function() {
var relationshipTypeValue = $(this).val();
var relationshipName = $this.find("input[type=text]").first().val();
var relationshipContactNumber = $this.find("input[type=text]").last().val();
var innerRelationshipArray = {};
innerRelationshipArray = {
relationshipTypeValue: relationshipTypeValue,
relationshipName: relationshipName,
relationshipContactNumber: relationshipContactNumber
};
relationship_details_array.push(innerRelationshipArray);
});
});
console.log(relationship_details_array);
}
$("#getData").on("click", getData);
<script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/2.1.1/jquery.min.js"></script>
<button type="button" id="getData">Show data in console log</button>
<div id="dynamic-relationship-details">
<div id="count-status0" class="relationship-container form-group">
<div class="col-sm-1"></div>

Generate input box based on dropdown selection

I want to be able to make a selection from the dropdown list then have it generate a input box dynamically with an appropriate label above it. Example:
if i select school from dropdown:
<label>Enter School name:</label>
<input name="name">
if i select individual from dropdown:
<label>Enter Individual name:</label>
<input name="firstName">
<input name="lastName">
$('#elementreg').change(function() {
$('#input-holder').empty();
if ($(this).val() == "individual") {
$('#input-holder').append('<input type="text" name="input" value="test" >');
}
});
<script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/2.1.1/jquery.min.js"></script>
<div id="input-holder"></div>
<select class="medium" id="elementreg" name="youare">
<option value="" selected="selected"></option>
<option value="individual">For Yourself</option>
<option value="school">School</option>
<option value="group">Group</option>
<option value="studio">Studio</option>
</select>
Your code works, but why not show/hide? It is much faster than manipulating the DOM each time
$("#elementreg").on("change", function() {
var val = $(this).val();
$(".types").hide().find('input:text').val(''); // hide and empty
if (val) $("#" + val).show();
});
.types {
display: none
}
<script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/2.1.1/jquery.min.js"></script>
<select class="medium" id="elementreg" name="youare">
<option value="" selected="selected"></option>
<option value="individual">For Yourself</option>
<option value="school">School</option>
<option value="group">Group</option>
<option value="studio">Studio</option>
</select>
<div class="types" id="individual">
<label>Enter Individual name:</label>
<input name="firstName">
<input name="lastName">
</div>
<div class="types" id="school">
<input .... />
</div>
Your version:
$("#elementreg").on("change", function() {
var val = $(this).val(), $div = $("#input-holder"),fields=" ";
switch (val) {
case "individual":
fields='<label>Your name: </label><input type="text" /><input type="text"/>';
break;
case "school":
fields='<label>School: </label><input type="text" />';
break;
}
$div.html(fields);
});
<script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/2.1.1/jquery.min.js"></script>
<div id="input-holder"> </div>
<select class="medium" id="elementreg" name="youare">
<option value="" selected="selected"></option>
<option value="individual">For Yourself</option>
<option value="school">School</option>
<option value="group">Group</option>
<option value="studio">Studio</option>
</select>

Dropdown that has an option to input a field

I'm trying to include in the option, that if the user chooses/clicks the Other please specify option, he gets an option to give input. The characters thus input will instantly show relevant nationalities in a dropdown bar.
For a javascript function based solution for this, how can I make a call to that function in my html code or in dropdown. Thanks! :D
<div class="form-group">
<label for="status" class="control-label col-xs-4">
<p class="left">Nationality</p>
</label>
<select name="status" required>
<option></option>
<option value="" disabled selected>Filipino</option>
<option value='Filipino'>Filipino</option>
<option value='American'>American</option>
<option value='Japanese'>Japanese</option>
<option value='French'>French</option>
<option value='Sweden'>Sweden</option>
<option value='other'>Others please specify.</option>
</select>
</div>
Check the below code
var code = $('#code'); //input field
code.hide(); //initially hide
$("#status").on('change', function() {
var selected_option = $('#status option:selected').eq(0);
if (selected_option.val() == 'other') {
code.show();
code.val(''); //empty the field every-time selecting the option
console.log(selected_option.val());
} else {
code.hide();
}
console.log(selected_option.val());
});
<script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/2.1.1/jquery.min.js"></script>
<div class="form-group">
<label for="status" class="control-label col-xs-4">
<p class="left">Nationality</p>
</label>
<select name="status" id="status" required>
<option></option>
<option value="" disabled selected>Filipino</option>
<option value='Filipino'>Filipino</option>
<option value='American'>American</option>
<option value='Japanese'>Japanese</option>
<option value='French'>French</option>
<option value='Sweden'>Sweden</option>
<option value='other'>Others please specify.</option>
</select>
<input type="text" name="code" id="code" />
</div>
Below is the full implementation
<!doctype html>
<html>
<head>
<meta charset="utf-8">
<title>Nationality</title>
<script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/2.1.1/jquery.min.js"></script>
</head>
<body>
<div class="form-group">
<label for="status" class="control-label col-xs-4">
<p class="left">Nationality</p>
</label>
<select name="status" id="status" required="required">
<option></option>
<option value="" disabled="disabled" selected="selected">Filipino</option>
<option value='Filipino'>Filipino</option>
<option value='American'>American</option>
<option value='Japanese'>Japanese</option>
<option value='French'>French</option>
<option value='Sweden'>Sweden</option>
<option value='other'>Others please specify.</option>
</select>
<input type="text" name="code" id="code">
</div>
<script>
var code = $('#code'); //input field
code.hide(); //initially hide
$("#status").on('change', function() {
var selected_option = $('#status option:selected').eq(0);
if (selected_option.val() == 'other') {
code.show();
code.val(''); //empty the field every-time selecting the option
console.log(selected_option.val());
} else {
code.hide();
}
console.log(selected_option.val());
});
</script>
</body>
</html>
Try this:
You need to have a listener for your select and take the action as per the selected value..
var inputLabel = $('#inputLabel');
var onOptionChange = function() {
if (this.value == 'other') {
inputLabel.fadeIn(100);
} else {
inputLabel.fadeOut(100);
}
};
$('#status').on('change', onOptionChange);
<script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.11.1/jquery.min.js"></script>
<div class="form-group">
<label for="status" class="control-label col-xs-4">Nationality</label>
<select name="status" id="status" required>
<option value="" disabled selected>Select your Nationality</option>
<option value='Filipino'>Filipino</option>
<option value='American'>American</option>
<option value='Japanese'>Japanese</option>
<option value='French'>French</option>
<option value='Sweden'>Sweden</option>
<option value='other'>Others please specify.</option>
</select>
<label for="input" id="inputLabel" style="display: none">Other:
<input type="text" id="input">
</label>
</div>
