I'm trying to remove multiple dropdown options from my SharePoint 2007 list, based on the selection of a previous dropdown. I already have Javascript running on the page, so a Javascript/jQuery solution would be ideal. I've read getElementByID can be used to get the specific field I need to remove an option from, and .remove can remove the value, but I can't seem to get the syntax right. For SharePoint, what field name should I be using in getElementByID()? Is there a better solution to this?

I'm currently trying to make a select dropdown (option, select) with a design like the following picture
enter image description here
When selected > 10 then the select dropdown option appears input text to fill in the desired amount.
Has anyone ever made something like this.
Thank you.
I think you'll just add an if statement for > 10 then the input display will change from none to whatever you want.
The kind of drop down list requested can not be constructed simply using a combination of HTML select and option elements. This is because the only permitted content type of Option elements is text, although HTML character entities may be used. (If you need to expand character references when setting an option element's content, use its innerHTML property instead of texContent.)
I would suggest searching for an already available HTML/JavaScript/CSS widget fulfilling a similar purpose, whether it be a self contained package or library plugin, before starting to write your own code from scratch.

FAQ
You want the value selected from a drop down box but the act of selecting the value in the first place causes a redirect? You mean the values are coded as links? If so then you need to find the code where the value is used as a link and write some condition to get the value rather than let the click redirect.
If you just want the currently selected value then you need to find the same code, where it was processed as a link, and set a variable there that you can use for your purposes.
Currenty I am using checkboxes to select more than one value in a form. So when creating a new post I can select all the categories it falls into. But the cat list is getting longer and is becoming a bit unmanagable.
I like how wordpress adds tags to each post via ajax. Wordpress has a text input field with autocomplete, you just start typing and then if it's already there (in the db) then it'll show and get adding to a list dynamically. If it's not found in the list then it gets inserted on form submit.
How can I achieve this or similar so that I don't have to use x amount of checkboxes?
Check out this jQuery library. It works on multi selects instead of checkboxes, but the logic and result is exactly what you need.

(not affiliated, I've just used it a few times)
One option would be to make use a library such as jquery-autocomplete
https://www.devbridge.com/sourcery/components/jquery-autocomplete/
This makes use of AJAX based functionality and will give you the ability to tweak it based on values stored in a database table. You can make a simple check function that, in the case the value can not be found, the user will have the option to simply press add and insert it into said library.
The rest is jsut a matter of styling and design.
Is there a way to force filteringselect to only allow the user to type items that appear in the drop list. I know that it will invalidate anything that is not in the list, but I would just rather it not allow invalid entries to show.
Really, what I would like to see is behaviour that matches the HTML SELECT control. Dojo doesnt seem to provide this with any of its controls.
Im not sure if I read you okay but this is how it things go:
If you type what is in the drop list of the FilteringSelect widget
then there will be no validation error.
If you want to match the HTML Select dropdown, then use
dijit.form.Select.
If you want to Filtering Select behaviour but want also be able to type in values that are not in the drop list, then use the
dijit.form.ComboBox widget.
IN my case i want to implement multi select auto complete combobox using html, javascript.
Is there any body who knows how to implement it.
Which will be similar to text field shown in stackoverflow while adding multipal tags to any question.
If you are talking about multiple drop down boxes that are linked, so that the selection in the first drop down menu determines the possibilities in the next, then the ASP.NET Toolkit has a nice cascading drop down sample. This will only, of course, come in handy if you are programming in ASP.NET. I would not recommend trying to reverse engineer the solution.
What do you mean by auto populate?
If you want to populate the drop down box dynamically you can just use a normal HTML Select tag and use Ajax to fetch the list of values to be shown in the drop down
