Show/Hide div element on button click - javascript

I have the following div:
<div class="margin-bottom hidden-xs"></div>
This div is hidden, when window is small by using bootstrap class 'hidden-xs', but I need to show/hide this div when user click on the button.
I am new in web, so question is how to do it in a proper way, by using angular, bootstrap...

Use ng-click. In your ng click you switch value from variable display. The directive ng-show / ng-hide work on css. If you need remove element from the DOM use ng-if instead of ng-show
JS
$scope.display = true;
$scope.switch = function(){
$scope.display =! $scope.display;
}
HTML
<div class="margin-bottom hidden-xs" ng-show="display"></div>
<button class="btn btn-primary btn-xs" ng-click="switch()">Click me !</button>
or if you don't need javascript.
HTML
<div ng-init="display = true">
<div class="margin-bottom hidden-xs" ng-show="display"></div>
<button class="btn btn-primary btn-xs" ng-click="display =! display">Click me !</button>
</div>

<button onclick="myfunction()">Hide/Show</button>
<div id="myDIV">
This is my DIV element.
</div>
<script>
function myfunction() {
var x = document.getElementById('myDIV');
if (x.style.display === 'none') {
x.style.display = 'block';
} else {
x.style.display = 'none';
}
}
</script>

To toggle a display using only javascript you can try this
https://codepen.io/anon/pen/xrdKEM
function myFunction() {
var toggle = document.getElementsByClassName('margin-bottom')[0];
toggle.style.display = toggle.style.display == "none" ? "block" : "none";
}
<script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/2.1.1/jquery.min.js"></script>
<div class="margin-bottom hidden-xs">
<h1>hello world</h1>
</div>
<input type="button" value="hide and show" onclick="myFunction()">

It can be easily done using javascript
function myFunction() {
var x = document.getElementById('showHide');
if (x.style.opacity === '0') {
x.style.opacity = '1';
} else {
x.style.opacity = '0';
}
}
<div id="showHide" class="margin-bottom hidden-xs" onclick="myFunction()">
This is my DIV element.
</div>

Reveal div by clicking button using JS

I'm trying to create a function that reveals additional content by clicking a button.
I've got a script that displays the content by default - How do I switch it so the content is hidden by default and only displays when the button is clicked?
function revealContent() {
var x = document.getElementById("additionalContent");
if (x.style.display === "none") {
x.style.display = "block";
} else {
x.style.display = "none";
}
}
<div class="col-10 text-center">
<button class="btn btn-sm btn-primary" onclick="revealContent()">Show More Options...</button>
</div>
<div class="col-10" id="additionalContent">
<p>Content!</p>
</div>
You just have to have the style display: none applied by default and then toggle it. classList.toggle is a good use for this. You can do something like:
.hidden {
display: none;
}
<div class="col-10 text-center">
<button class="btn btn-sm btn-primary" onclick="revealContent()">Show More Options...</button>
</div>
<div class="col-10 hidden" id="additionalContent">
<p>Content!</p>
</div>
<script>
function revealContent() {
var x = document.getElementById("additionalContent");
x.classList.toggle('hidden');
}
</script>
<div class="col-10" id="additionalContent" style="display:none">
<p>Content!</p>
</div>
EDIT: You've to add the style="display:none" to make this as default when the page is loaded.

Getting to the next button chain

I'm trying to create a chain of buttons:
First options;
- Button 1
- Button 2
IF chosen Button 1:
- Button 1a
- Button 1b
IF chosen Button 1a:
- Button 1aa
- Button 1ab
IF chosen Button 1b:
- Button 1ba
- Button 1bb
And so on.. same goes for Button 2.
Thus far I got this but my .js is not working out for me.
I tried it in two ways.
WAY 1:
HTML (onclick="nextPush" is going to change in way 2)
<div class="buttons1-2">
<button id="btn1" class="btn btn1" onclick="buttonPushed(this)">Button 1</button>
<button id="btn2" class="btn btn2" onclick="buttonPushed(this)">Button 2</button>
</div>
<div class="buttons1a-b">
<button id="btn1a" class="btn btn1a" onclick="nextPush(this)">Button 1a</button>
<button id="btn1b" class="btn btn1b" onclick="nextPush(this)">Button 1b</button>
</div>
<div class="buttons2a-b">
<button id="btn2a" class="btn btn2a">Button 2a</button>
<button id="btn2b" class="btn btn2b">Button 2b</button>
</div>
<div class="buttons1aa-ab">
<button id="btn1aa" class="btn btn1a">Button 1aa</button>
<button id="btn1ab" class="btn btn1b">Button 1ab</button>
</div>
<div class="buttons1ba-bb">
<button id="btn1ba" class="btn btn2a">Button 1ba</button>
<button id="btn1bb" class="btn btn2b">Button 1bb</button>
</div>
WAY 1: .JS
function buttonPushed(btn) {
var replacewith = "buttons1a-b";
if (btn.id == "btn2") {
replacewith = "buttons2a-b";
}
function nextPush(btn) {
var replacewith = "buttons1aa-ab";
if (btn.id == "btn1b") {
replacewith = "buttons1ba-bb";
}
var allChildren = document.getElementsByClassName('buttons')[0].children;
for (var i = 0; i < allChildren.length; i++) {
var child = allChildren[i];
if (child.className != replacewith) {
child.style.display = "none";
} else {
child.style.display = "inline";
}
}
}
WAY 2: HTML (notice the onclick="nextPush" is gone)
<div class="buttons1-2">
<button id="btn1" class="btn btn1" onclick="buttonPushed(this)">Button 1</button>
<button id="btn2" class="btn btn2" onclick="buttonPushed(this)">Button 2</button>
</div>
<div class="buttons1a-b">
<button id="btn1a" class="btn btn1a" onclick="buttonPushed(this)">Button 1a</button>
<button id="btn1b" class="btn btn1b" onclick="buttonPushed(this)">Button 1b</button>
</div>
<div class="buttons2a-b">
<button id="btn2a" class="btn btn2a">Button 2a</button>
<button id="btn2b" class="btn btn2b">Button 2b</button>
</div>
<div class="buttons1aa-ab">
<button id="btn1aa" class="btn btn1a">Button 1aa</button>
<button id="btn1ab" class="btn btn1b">Button 1ab</button>
</div>
<div class="buttons1ba-bb">
<button id="btn1ba" class="btn btn2a">Button 1ba</button>
<button id="btn1bb" class="btn btn2b">Button 1bb</button>
</div>
WAY 2 .JS
function buttonPushed(btn) {
/* btn = Id: btn1, btn2, btn1a or btn1b */
let replacewith = "buttons1a-b";
if (btn.id == "btn2") {
replacewith = "buttons2a-b";
}
else if (btn.id == "btn1a") {
replacewith = "buttons1aa-ab";
}
else if (btn.id == "btn1b") {
replacewith = "buttons1ba-bb";
}
}
let allChildren = document.getElementsByClassName('buttons')[0].children;
for (let i = 0; i < allChildren.length; i++) {
let child = allChildren[i];
if (child.className != replacewith) {
child.style.display = "none";
} else {
child.style.display = "inline";
}
}
.CSS for BOTH WAYS:
.buttons1a-b {
display: none;
}
.buttons2a-b {
display: none;
}
.buttons1aa-ab {
display: none;
}
.buttons1ba-bb {
display: none;
}
Sorry for the long post, hope you can help me out :) If you know a better way to do this, please also do let me know.
Building on your example, and the one from Michael, you could also use another approach of declaring what div you want displayed by attaching an attribute to the button, and then add an event listener to all buttons with that attribute. This makes the HTML slightly smaller and more declarative, and makes it easier to switch what element you want to display next instead of relying on a particular schema of id's.
(function(document) {
// get all buttons that have the attribute data-next
const buttons = document.querySelectorAll('[data-next]');
for (const item of buttons) {
// get references to the parent item and next item to hide/show
const parentId = item.getAttribute('data-parent');
const parent = document.querySelector(`#${parentId}`);
const nextDivId = item.getAttribute('data-next');
const nextDiv = document.querySelector(`#${nextDivId}`);
if (!nextDiv) {
console.error('could not find next div for button ', item);
}
// attach an event listener for click that toggles visibility of the above elements
item.addEventListener('click', function() {
nextDiv.classList.toggle('hidden');
parent.classList.toggle('hidden');
});
}
})(document);
.hidden {
display: none;
}
<div id="base">
<button data-next="option-a" data-parent="base">Option A</button>
<button data-next="option-b" data-parent="base">Option B</button>
</div>
<div id="option-a" class="hidden">
<p>Option A</p>
</div>
<div id="option-b" class="hidden">
<p>Option B</p>
</div>
If you want to add new buttons dynamically (or change what your next items should be) you will need to attach the event listener when you create your other buttons. For instance, you can do something like the following:
(function(document) {
function onButtonClicked(event) {
const item = event.target;
// get references to the next item to show
const nextDivId = item.getAttribute('data-next');
const nextDiv = document.querySelector(`#${nextDivId}`);
if (!nextDiv) {
console.error('could not find next div for button ', item);
}
// The function toggle on classList either removes a class if it exists
// or adds it if it does not exist in the list of classes on the element
nextDiv.classList.toggle('hidden');
// check if container has an attribute for loading next buttons lazily
const lazyLoadLevel = nextDiv.getAttribute('data-level');
// if we found the attribute, load the contents
if (lazyLoadLevel) {
// cast lazyLoadedLevel to an integer (with +) since getAttribute returns a string
loadLevel(+lazyLoadLevel, nextDiv);
// since we have populated the container we can remove the attribute so that elements do not get added again
nextDiv.removeAttribute('data-level');
}
// get references to the parent item to hide
const parentId = item.getAttribute('data-parent');
const parent = document.querySelector(`#${parentId}`);
if (parent) {
parent.classList.toggle('hidden');
}
}
function addButton(parent, nextElementId, text) {
const newItem = document.createElement('button');
newItem.setAttribute('data-next', nextElementId);
newItem.setAttribute('data-parent', parent.getAttribute('id'));
newItem.textContent = text;
newItem.addEventListener('click', onButtonClicked);
parent.appendChild(newItem);
}
function loadLevel(level, container) {
switch (level) {
// depending on level you can define other buttons to add here
case 2:
{
addButton(container, 'option-a', 'Goto option a');
break;
}
}
}
// get all *existing* buttons that have the attribute data-next
// this is run once when the script loads, and will not attach listeners to dynamically created buttons
const buttons = document.querySelectorAll('[data-next]');
for (const item of buttons) {
// attach an event listener for click that toggles visibility of parent and next elements
// notice that we pass a reference to onButtonClicked. Even though it is a function we shouldn't call it *here*
item.addEventListener('click', onButtonClicked);
}
})(document);
.hidden {
display: none;
}
<div id="base">
<button data-next="option-a" data-parent="base">Option A</button>
<button data-next="option-b" data-parent="base">Option B</button>
</div>
<div id="option-a" class="hidden">
<p>Option A</p>
<button data-next="option-b" data-parent="option-a">Option B</button>
</div>
<div id="option-b" class="hidden" data-level="2">
<p>Option B. The contents of this div is loaded lazily based on the value of the attribute data-level</p>
</div>
At first, I was thinking this should be done entirely dynamically -- where the next container of buttons is created and inserted into the DOM when the button is clicked. But judging by your current attempts, it seems like you want to have all the buttons hardcoded into the source, hidden with CSS, and shown with DOM during the click event. Here is one way you can achieve that:
function handleButtonClick(button) {
const clickedID = button.id.substring(3);
const nextDiv = document.getElementById("buttons" + clickedID);
if (nextDiv) {
nextDiv.style.display = "block";
}
}
.hidden {
display: none;
}
<div id="buttons">
<button id="btn1" onclick="handleButtonClick(this)">Button 1</button>
<button id="btn2" onclick="handleButtonClick(this)">Button 2</button>
</div>
<div id="buttons1" class="hidden">
<button id="btn1a" onclick="handleButtonClick(this)">Button 1a</button>
<button id="btn1b" onclick="handleButtonClick(this)">Button 1b</button>
</div>
<div id="buttons2" class="hidden">
<button id="btn2a" onclick="handleButtonClick(this)">Button 2a</button>
<button id="btn2b" onclick="handleButtonClick(this)">Button 2b</button>
</div>
<div id="buttons1a" class="hidden">
<button id="btn1aa" onclick="handleButtonClick(this)">Button 1aa</button>
<button id="btn1ab" onclick="handleButtonClick(this)">Button 1ab</button>
</div>
<div id="buttons1b" class="hidden">
<button id="btn1ba" onclick="handleButtonClick(this)">Button 1ba</button>
<button id="btn1bb" onclick="handleButtonClick(this)">Button 1bb</button>
</div>
<div id="buttons2a" class="hidden">
<button id="btn2aa" onclick="handleButtonClick(this)">Button 2aa</button>
<button id="btn2ab" onclick="handleButtonClick(this)">Button 2ab</button>
</div>
<div id="buttons2b" class="hidden">
<button id="btn2ba" onclick="handleButtonClick(this)">Button 2ba</button>
<button id="btn2bb" onclick="handleButtonClick(this)">Button 21bb</button>
</div>
This just identifies which button was clicked, and uses that information to determine the next div to show, until there are no more divs that correspond to the one that was clicked.

Javascript onclick show/hide for multiple rows (Dynamic content)

I'm having a list of users where the admin can approve/decline.For these two action i'm using show/hide oncllick the code works.But in multiple rows for any action button onclick it shows/hide the content.I want paticular row's action button 'ld show/hide the content,on click of that button.How can I solve this?
Here is My view code laravel blade,
<script>
function showhide() {
var div = document.getElementById("collapse1");
if (div.style.display !== "none")
div.style.display = "none";
else
div.style.display = "block";
}
</script>
Content:
<div>
<button href="#collapse1" class="btn btn-success nav-toggle" onclick="showhide()">Action</button>
</div>
#if($user->approved == 0)
<div id="collapse1" style="display:none">
<span>
<a href="{!! route('approve', ['id' => $user->id]) !!}"><img alt="" src="http://www.clker.com/cliparts/l/n/a/E/b/t/check-mark-button-hi.png"
style="height: 48px; width: 48px" /></a>
</span><br/>
#else
<span>
<a href="{!! route('decline', ['id' => $user->id]) !!}">
<img alt="" src="https://images.onlinelabels.com/images/clip-art/TzeenieWheenie/TzeenieWheenie_red_green_OK_not_OK_Icons_1.png"
style="height: 48px; width: 48px"/>
</a>
</span>
</div>
#endif
Script
#pushonce('custom-scripts')
<script
src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.10.2/jquery.min.js">
</script>
#endpushonce
It conflict id
You need change id:
id="collapse1" => id="collapse{$user->id}"
js and html function like https://jsfiddle.net/ft9xprnb/3/ .You can see result by click link and content function edited: elem.getAttribute("href")
function showhide(elem)
{
console.log(elem.getAttribute("href"));
var div = document.getElementById(elem.getAttribute("href").replace("#", ""));
if (div.style.display !== "none") {
div.style.display = "none";
}
else {
div.style.display = "block";
}
}
You can pass this in html
<button href="#collapse1" class="btn btn-success nav-toggle" onclick="showhide(this)">Action</button>
And then in JS
function showhide(elem)
{
var div = document.getElementById(elem.href.replace("#", ""));
if (div.style.display !== "none") {
div.style.display = "none";
}
else {
div.style.display = "block";
}
}
This way the elem you will be passing to click will be the clicked element.
Try changing content to this
<div>
<button href="#collapse1" class="btn btn-success nav-toggle" onclick="showhide()">Action</button>
</div>
<div id="collapse1" style="display:none">
#if($user->approved == 0)
<span>
<a href="{!! route('approve', ['id' => $user->id]) !!}">
<img alt="" src="http://www.clker.com/cliparts/l/n/a/E/b/t/check-mark-button-hi.png" style="height: 48px; width: 48px"/>
</a>
</span>
<br/>
#else
<span>
<a href="{!! route('decline', ['id' => $user->id]) !!}">
<img alt="" src="https://images.onlinelabels.com/images/clip-art/TzeenieWheenie/TzeenieWheenie_red_green_OK_not_OK_Icons_1.png" style="height: 48px; width: 48px"/>
</a>
</span>
#endif
</div>

Change value of button text

<div>
<button type="button" style="width:250px;"onclick="loadMenu('menu_${bookings.bookingId}')" class="btn btn-default btn-sm">View Items</button>
</div>
<div id="menu_${bookings.bookingId}" style="display: none;">
${bookings.products}
</div>
I want to change the value of view items to hide items when i click on that button
MY SCRIPt
function loadMenu(id) {
var e = document.getElementById(id);
if(e.style.display == 'block')
{
e.style.display = 'none';
}
else{
e.style.display = 'block';
}
}
Firstly, you should use an unobtrusive event handler instead of the outdated on* event attributes.
From there, you can use the this keyword to reference the clicked button and toggle its text based on its current value. Try this:
document.querySelectorAll('.booking-toggle').forEach(function() {
this.addEventListener('click', function(e) {
var id = e.target.getAttribute('data-bookingid');
var booking = document.getElementById(id);
booking.style.display = booking.style.display == 'block' ? 'none' : 'block';
e.target.innerText = e.target.innerText == 'View Items' ? 'Hide Items' : 'View Items';
});
});
<div>
<button type="button" style="width:250px;" data-bookingid="bookingId_1" class="btn btn-default btn-sm booking-toggle" id="foo">View Items</button>
</div>
<div id="bookingId_1" style="display: none;">
${bookings.products}
</div>
Or in jQuery:
$('.booking-toggle').click(function() {
var $btn = $(this);
$('#' + $btn.data('bookingid')).toggle();
$btn.text(function(i, t) {
return t == 'View Items' ? 'Hide Items' : 'View Items';
});
});
<script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/2.1.1/jquery.min.js"></script>
<div>
<button type="button" style="width:250px;" data-bookingid="bookingId_1" class="btn btn-default btn-sm booking-toggle" id="foo">View Items</button>
</div>
<div id="bookingId_1" style="display: none;">
${bookings.products}
</div>
Clear Demo and code:
html
<button id="button" href="#">Show/Hide</button>
<div id="item">Item</div>
js:
$( "#button" ).click(function() {
$( "#item" ).toggle();
});
replace the link with button:

How do I make JS code not affect other DIV?

Hi I am try to make a list of item, I have "add" and "minus" button for each item. The problem is that the JS code I had control two items together. ex. if I click "add" for item1, then the item2 gets added as well.
Looks like that my JS functions works for all button elements. So when I click a "button" element, all buttons get triggered.
How can I do add them individually?
PS: I guess I need to do something like a specific ID for JS to trigger. My thought is add a unique ITEM ID for each one and trigger the button under that specific ID so other buttons under other ITEM ID don't get triggered.
Here is my HTML code:
<div class="row bb">
<div class="col-xs-12 food-container">
<img src="img/1.png" class="min-w img-responsive" />
<div class="food-detail">
<div class="food-name">test</div>
<div class="food-sales">test:233333</div>
<div class="food-price">
¥50
<div class="food-edit">
<button class="btn btn-info" value="50.55" id="minus">-</button>
<span class="num-sales"></span>
<button class="btn btn-info" value="50.55" id="add">+</button>
</div>
</div>
</div>
</div>

<div class="row bb">

<span class="num-sales"></span>
<button class="btn btn-info" value="50.55" id="add">+</button>
</div>
</div>
</div>
</div>
</div>
Here is my JS:
var theTotal = 0;
var theSales = 0;
var minusButton = document.getElementById('minus');
if (theSales == 0) {
$(minusButton).hide();
}
$('button').click(function () {
var ID = this.id;
if (ID == "add") {
$(minusButton).show();
theTotal = Number(theTotal) + Number($(this).val());
theSales++;
var num = theTotal.toFixed(2);
$('.total').text("¥" + num);
$('.total-num-of-sales').text(theSales + "份");
$('.num-sales').text(theSales);
};
if (ID == "minus") {
theTotal = Number(theTotal) - Number($(this).val());
theSales--;
var num = theTotal.toFixed(2);
if ( theSales == 0 ) {
$('.total').text("");
$('.total-num-of-sales').text("");
$('.num-sales').text("");
$(minusButton).hide();
}
else if ( theSales > 0 ) {
$('.total').text("¥"+num);
$('.total-num-of-sales').text(theSales + "份");
$('.num-sales').text(theSales);
}
};
});
Don't use multiple id on same page

Check this will help you
var theTotal = 0;
var theSales = 0;
var minusButton = $('.minus');
if (theSales == 0) {
$(minusButton).hide();
}
$('button').click(function(){
var ID = $(this).attr('data');
if (ID == "add") {
$(this).parent().find('.minus').show();
theTotal = Number($(this).parent().find('.num-sales').text()) + Number($(this).val());
theSales = Number($(this).parent().find('.num-sales').text()) + Number(1);
var num=theTotal.toFixed(2);
$(this).parent().find('.total').text("¥"+num);
$(this).parent().find('.total-num-of-sales').text(theSales+"份");

};
if (ID == "minus") {
theTotal = Number($(this).parent().find('.num-sales').text()) - Number($(this).val());
theSales= Number($(this).parent().find('.num-sales').text()) - Number(1);
var num=theTotal.toFixed(2);
if ( theSales == 0) {
$('.total').text("");
$(this).parent().find('.total-num-of-sales').text("");
$(this).parent().find('.num-sales').text("");
$(this).parent().find('.minus').hide();
}
else if ( theSales > 0) {
$(this).parent().find('.total').text("¥"+num);
$(this).parent().find('.total-num-of-sales').text(theSales + "份")
$(this).parent().find('.num-sales').text(theSales);
}
};
});

var ID = this.id;
if (ID == "add") {
$(minusButton).show();
theTotal = Number(theTotal) + Number($(this).val());
theSales = Number($(this).parent().find('.num-sales').text())+1;
var num=theTotal.toFixed(2);
$('.total').text("¥"+num);
$('.total-num-of-sales').text(theSales+"份");
$(this).parent().find('.num-sales').text(theSales);
};
if (ID == "minus") {
theTotal = Number(theTotal) - Number($(this).val());
theSales = Number($(this).parent().find('.num-sales').text())-1;
var num=theTotal.toFixed(2);
if ( theSales == 0) {
$('.total').text("");
$('.total-num-of-sales').text("");
$(this).parent().find('.num-sales').text("");
//$('.num-sales').text("");
$(minusButton).hide();
}
else if ( theSales > 0) {
$('.total').text("¥"+num);
$('.total-num-of-sales').text(theSales + "份");
$(this).parent().find('.num-sales').text(theSales);
//$('.num-sales').text(theSales);
}
};
$(this).parent().find('.num-sales').text(theSales);
By this way you can get the parent of clicked button and change the value of .num-sales of the selected parent

You are mixing the elements because of your id and class selectors.
When you select elements through jQuery by class (like $('.num-sales')), jQuery gives you a collection of all elements that match the selector. In your case, that would be both class="num-sales" elements.
Whenever you then call a function (like .html(theSales)), it will apply that function to each element in the collection, that's why your code is affecting more than one element.
You will need to find a way to distinguish one element of the other. There's quite a few options here, but I like doing it by limiting the scope of my selectors. With this I mean I would first find the food-detail div that contains the clicked element, and then find .num-sales etc... only within that element.
Then you can do the following in your button clicks:
$('button').click(function(){
var ID = this.id;
var element = $(this) //make a jQuery object of the clicked button
// finds the first parent element with class food-detail
var container = element.closest('.food-detail');
// find .num-sales within container
var numSales = container.find('.num-sales')
// continue...
});
in short:
when a button is clicked, find the food-detail div the button is in
.find in only that container instead of using selectors on the entire document
Edit: you should really change the id="Add" and id="minus" on your buttons, ids should be unique on the entire document. You can simply add add or minus as a class instead and check for it with element.hasClass('add').
