Highchart guage needles showing below data labels - javascript

How can i bring gauge needles above the datalabels. I tried zIndex but its not working. These are the gauge options
gauge: {
pivot: {
radius: 5,
backgroundColor: '#ea7001'
},
dial: {
backgroundColor: '#ea7001',
baseWidth: 5,
topWidth: 5,
baseLength: '0%', // of radius
}
},
},
Here is a Fiddle

You're applying the zIndex to the wrong elements.
It's not the data labels that are showing above the needle, it's the yAxis labels.
The axis label zIndex defaults to 7 - usually the labels are outside of the plot area, and in most cases you would probably want them to show above other elements. Your case changes the expectation.
You can adjust the axis label zIndex here:
labels: {
zIndex: 1, //<--
step: 1,
distance: -20,
style: {
"font-size": "8px"
}
},

In highcharts, is it possible to make a bar in a column chart with its top bordering the edge of the chart area "on top" of the chart border?

This is the JSFiddle for demonstration.
In the two bars shown in the above JSFiddle, the respective top and the bottom side of the two bars are not black, but grey, since that is the color of the chart border/border of plot area. Would it be possible to make the two bars to be "on top" of the chart border (so that all their sides are black)? I have tried with zIndex in "series". But that does not work.
These are the most relevant javascript code:
Highcharts.chart('container', {
chart: {
type: 'column',
borderWidth: 1,
plotBorderWidth: 1,
marginBottom: 100
},
plotOptions: {
series: {
borderColor: 'black',
animation: false
},
},
xAxis: {
categories: ['1', '2']
},
yAxis: {
tickInterval: 10,
min: -50,
max: 50
},
series: [{
data: [50, -50],
zIndex: 300
}]
});
To achieve this effect, you can set series.column.clip: false.
Disabling this option allows series rendering over plotArea borders.
series: [{
clip: false,
data: [50, -50]
}]

Label distance in polar chart is not equal on each angle

Who's gonna tell me, how to make correction of label positioning depends on value and angle in Highcharts Polar chart?
Please take a look at pictures:
Example 1: Here you can see, that angle values are displayed on bottom half is not positioned well - labels aren't have so much distance from the circle of outer graph line like the top ones.
Example 2: Angle values labels are displayed like they are moved a little bit to the right and labels at down is moved up a little bit too - the same as in example 1.
I'm using library Highstock v5.0.12. and here is fragment of my js code:
xAxis: {
tickInterval: 30,
min: 0,
max: 360,
labels: {
formatter: function() {
return this.value + '°';
},
style: {
"fontSize": "1.1vw",
},
distance: 15,
}
},
Creating solution using documented example and updating with existing code.
Solution is to update with useHTML and align property
xAxis: {
tickInterval: 30,
min: 0,
max: 360,
labels: {
formatter: function() {
return this.value + '°';
},
style: {
"fontSize": "1.1vw",
},
distance: 15,
useHTML: true,
align: 'center'
}
},
Fiddle
You can you xAxis.labels.y option for this:
labels: {
y: 6,
formatter: function() {
return this.value + '°';
},
style: {
fontSize: '20px'
}
}

Highcharts - Solid Gauge - Inconsistent Styling and Improper Values

I have a website which makes use of HighCharts Solid Gauge .
There are two rows of gauges.
The first row of gauges is built as follows.
var workgroups =['WG01','WG02','WG04',
'WG05','WG06','All'];
$(function ()
{
var gaugeOptions = {
chart: {
type: 'solidgauge'
},
title: 'Gauge',
pane: {
// Positioning
center: ['50%', '60%'],
// img size
size: '100%',
// full circle/half circle
startAngle: -90,
endAngle: 90,
// gauge coloring
background: {
backgroundColor: (Highcharts.theme && Highcharts.theme.background2) || '#000',
// Inner semi circle sizing
innerRadius: '60%',
outerRadius: '100%',
shape: 'arc'
}
},
tooltip: {
enabled: false
},
// the value axis
yAxis: {
stops: [
// Set the limits for coloring
[0.1, '#55BF3B'], // green
[0.4, '#DDDF0D'], // yellow
[0.9, '#DF5353'] // red
],
// Outside Line buffer
lineWidth: 0,
minorTickInterval: null,
tickPixelInterval: 400,
tickWidth: 0,
title: {
// Title Location
y: -30
},
labels: {
style:{
color: "#000000",
fontSize: "13px"
},
// Bottom Label Offset
y: 15,
distance: -10,
}
},
plotOptions: {
solidgauge: {
dataLabels: {
style:{
color: "000000",
fontSize: "15px"
},
borderWidth: 0,
useHTML: true
}
}
}
};
// The gauges
for( i in workgroups){
if(workgroups[i] == 'All'){
header = "All";
gaugeOptions.yAxis['stops'] = [[.5, '#000000']]
}else{
header = "WG" + workgroups[i].slice(-2);
}
$('#'+workgroups[i]).highcharts(Highcharts.merge(gaugeOptions, {
yAxis: {
min: 0,
max: 100,
title: {
style:{
color: "#000000",

'<span style="font-size:12px;color:silver">clients</span></div>'

}
);
and results in the following image.
This is fine, proper values, all styles fit where they are supposed to.
After doing these gauges, we then do a second row of gauges.
The (Current) Configuration for these gauges are:
var application_array = new Array(3);
application_array['Sapphire'] = 50;
application_array['Magic Bullet'] = 35;
application_array['Boris'] = 30;
$(function ()

pane: {
// Positioning

// img size
size: '150%',
// full circle/half circle
startAngle: -90,
endAngle: 90,
// gauge coloring
background: {
backgroundColor: (Highcharts.theme && Highcharts.theme.background2) || '#000',
// Inner semi circle sizing
innerRadius: '60%',
outerRadius: '100%',
shape: 'arc'
}
},
tooltip: {
enabled: false
},
// the value axis

[0.9, '#DF5353'] // red

// Outside Line buffer

tickPixelInterval: 400,
tickWidth: 0,
title: {
// Title Location

},
labels:{

}
},
};
// Build the gauges here
var license_gauges = document.getElementsByClassName('gaugeCell2');
var myLength = license_gauges.length;
for (i=0; i <myLength; i++){
var header = license_gauges[i].id;
var selector = "[id='"+header+"']";
if (header == 'Boris'){
var max_value = 30;
}else if (header == 'Magic Bullet'){
var max_value = 35;
}else if (header == 'Sapphire'){
var max_value = 50;
}
console.log(header)
$(selector).highcharts(Highcharts.merge(gaugeOptions, {

Which Produces the following BAD Gauges
My Question
1) In the second row of gauges, Why is it printing 25 as max for the 2nd and 3rd gauge?
- I have tried an associate array to hold the proper value, same issue occurs
I have tried a function which returns a static value, same issue occurs
I have tried logic in the gauge creation itself, same issue occurs
I have tried writing a static value as max, and all gauges get the proper value
2) In the second row of gauges, why is it that the max Value, for the second and third gauges is inconsistently formatted with the first gauge?
I have tried virtually every layout configuration I can think of, but yet it stays the same issue.
When Using a static max value, this issue does not occur.
Do I need to make an individual gaugeoption for each gauge since they have different max values? I would like to use 1 gauge style for the top row and 1 gauge style for the bottom row (fatter).
A JSFiddle has been created here. There is most likely extraneous code (especially css), as I wanted to get it up and running quickly.

Thanks for reading
Why is it printing 25 as max for the 2nd and 3rd gauge?
It isn't. That is, the max isn't 25, but the drawn axis label shows the value 25, as there is an axis tick at this value. The max value is not showing with a label.
why is it that the max Value, for the second and third gauges is inconsistently formatted with the first gauge?
The position is inconsistent because the 25 label is in varying positions depending on what the max value is. In your case it is 35 and 30 for the last two gauges.
Do I need to make an individual gaugeoption for each gauge since they have different max values?
No. From my understanding you want a label at the start (0) and end (max_value). To get this you need to ensure that the axis ticks (which have associated labels) are at these positions, and only these.
A simple way is this (JSFiddle):
yAxis: {
min: 0,
max: max_value,
tickPositions: [0, max_value], // Ensure position of ticks, which have labels
// ...
}
I was having the same issue, but following what Halvor Strang said solved my problem like so
displayOptions.yAxis.min = widget.display.minimum;
displayOptions.yAxis.max = widget.display.maximum;
displayOptions.yAxis.tickPositions = [widget.display.minimum, widget.display.maximum];
distorted labels
- Minimum and maximum out of place

How to add gradient colors above chart line?

Here I am getting gradient color at top of the chart area by reversing y-Axis. check the image below .
yAxis: {
reversed: true,
showFirstLabel: false,
showLastLabel: true
}
I don't want to reverse the y-Axis, if i am reversing the y-Axis my chart also reversed. I want the gradient color which is in top of the chart line without using this Reversed Y-axis. Suggest me to if any other options in highcharts.
Could any one help me to solve this.
I am working live random data. In this case only the area traveled by the data should get the gradient color , empty space other than the data in chat shouldn't get gradient color.
As per #DaMaxContent answer , the output will act like below image.
I don't want that gradient which filled in other area of the chart data. Could you please help me to resolve this.
The break down:
You can use gridZindex and backgroundColor/fillColor properties to produce the desired effect. Only issue is that the grid has to be displayed over graph.
The solution:
DEMO
The code behind it:
chart: {
type: 'area',
backgroundColor: { //<<--that is what you are using as fill color
linearGradient : {
x1: 0,
y1: 1,
x2: 0,
y2: 0
},
stops : [
[0, Highcharts.getOptions().colors[0]],
[1, Highcharts.Color(Highcharts.getOptions().colors[0]).setOpacity(0).get('rgba')]
]
}
},
rangeSelector: {
selected: 1
},
title: {
text: 'AAPL Stock Price'
},
yAxis: {
reversed: false,
showFirstLabel: false,
showLastLabel: true,
gridZIndex: 1000 //<<--grid Z index is used to display grid lines over the graph instead of under it
},
series: [{
name: 'AAPL Stock Price',
data: data,
threshold: null,
fillColor : "#fff", //<<--fill color under the line to simulate effect
zIndex: 1000,
tooltip: {
valueDecimals: 2
}
}]
If you wish to get rid of the marginal color areas, you can get rid off the graphs margin with chart: { [... ,] margin: 0 [, ...] } and then use the container's padding as the graph margin.

To meet the various criteria you have asked for, I would accomplish this by creating a dummy series to create the gradient effect.
Example Result:
In this scenario, you will need to pre-process your data, and you will need to assign a max value for the y axis explicitly.
Example Code:
var max = 0;
var data1 = [...your data array...];
var data2 = [];
$.each(data1, function(i,point) {
max = point > max ? point : max;
});
max = Math.ceil(max * 1.1);
$.each(data1, function(i,point) {
data2.push((max - point));
});
You will then need to assign that max value as your yAxis max proeprty, and you may need to either set endOnTick: false, or otherwise account for the max resolving with your tickInterval:
yAxis: {
max:max,
endOnTick:false
}
Then for your dummy series, define the background color gradient.
We'll also set the showInLegend and enableMouseTracking properties to false so that it doesn't show in the legend or tooltip:
{
data: data2,
showInLegend:false,
enableMouseTracking:false,
fillColor : {
linearGradient : {
x1: 0,
y1: 1,
x2: 0,
y2: 0
},
stops : [
[0, Highcharts.getOptions().colors[0]],
[1, Highcharts.Color(Highcharts.getOptions().colors[0]).setOpacity(0).get('rgba')]
]
}
Fiddle Example:
http://jsfiddle.net/jlbriggs/mcp3trmk/
This ensures that the gradient will always match the data, as requested.
As you can see from this js fiddle you have to add this:
series: [{
name: 'AAPL Stock Price',
data: data,
threshold: null,
fillColor : {
linearGradient : {
x1: 0,
y1: 1,
x2: 0,
y2: 0
},
stops : [
[0, Highcharts.getOptions().colors[0]],
[1, Highcharts.Color(Highcharts.getOptions().colors[0]).setOpacity(0).get('rgba')]
]
},
tooltip: {
valueDecimals: 2
}
}]

Highcharts : Display the labels (min, max, median etc.) in boxplot

I have created a basic boxplot using highcharts and it shows me the values for maximum, max quartile, median, min quartile and minimum when I hover the mouse over the box plot. I want to somehow display these values in the plot itself beside each of the lines.
I checked out the api and found that "dataLabel" would help but this is not supported for the boxplot. Could someone enlighten me on how to achieve this?
Thanks.
Not possible out of the box, but as mentioned by Steve Gu achievable by scatter. You can even ignore the formatter and disable the marker alltogether:
{
series: [
{
type: 'scatter',
tooltip: {
enabled: false
},
dataLabels: {
format: '{key}',
enabled: true,
y: 0,
},
data: [{ x: 0, y: 975, name: '975'}],
marker: {
enabled: false,
}
}
]
}
just disable marker and set format to key.
Add another data series, which is a type of "Scatter" and apply the data labels to this series using Marker. The trick is to use the same fill color as your background color and 0 line width so the marker will not be visible and only the label will be shown.
{
name: 'Outlier',
color: 'white',
type: 'scatter',
data: [ // x, y positions where 0 is the first category
{
name: 'This is my label for the box',
x:0, //box index. first one is 0.
y:975 //it will be bigger than the maximum value of of the box
}
],
dataLabels : {
align: 'left',
enabled : true,
formatter : function() {
return this.point.name;
},
y: 10,
},
marker: {
fillColor: 'white',
lineWidth: 0,
lineColor: 'white'
}
}
Unfortunately this option is not supported, only what you can do is use renderer to add custom text inside chart, but I'm aware that it can be not comfortable solution. http://api.highcharts.com/highcharts#Renderer.text()
Obviosuly you can reqest your suggestion in our user voice system http://highcharts.uservoice.com/
