How to update function within another function in JavaScript? - javascript

How I can update function _handlePaste() inside function paste?
$.FE.MODULES.paste = function(editor) {
var clipboard_html;
function _handlePaste(e) {
// Read data from clipboard.
if (e && e.clipboardData && e.clipboardData.getData) {
var types = '';
var clipboard_types = e.clipboardData.types;
if (editor.helpers.isArray(clipboard_types)) {
for (var i = 0; i < clipboard_types.length; i++) {
types += clipboard_types[i] + ';';
}
} else {
types = clipboard_types;
}
clipboard_html = '';
// HTML.
if (/text\/html/.test(types)) {
clipboard_html = e.clipboardData.getData('text/html');
}
// Safari HTML.
else if (/text\/rtf/.test(types) && editor.browser.safari) {
clipboard_html = e.clipboardData.getData('text/rtf');
} else if (/text\/plain/.test(types) && !this.browser.mozilla) {
clipboard_html = editor.html.escapeEntities(e.clipboardData.getData('text/plain')).replace(/\n/g, '<br>');
}
if (clipboard_html !== '') {
_processPaste();
if (e.preventDefault) {
e.stopPropagation();
e.preventDefault();
}
return false;
} else {
clipboard_html = null;
}
}
// Normal paste.
_beforePaste();
}
}
The function is the part of jquery plugin, so I would like to change the function outside of the plugin's files to be able further update it.
I am trying to change it like this:
(function ($) {
$.FE.MODULES.paste._handlePaste = function (e) {
// my implementation of _handlePaste
}
})(window.jQuery);
But I can't access _handlePaste this way.

How to make multiple chunk of lines readonly in ace editor

I tried to make parts of code read-only in Ace editor.
I have tried by using code given in JsFiddle
$(function() {
var editor = ace.edit("editor1")
, session = editor.getSession()
, Range = require("ace/range").Range
, range = new Range(1, 4, 1, 10)
, markerId = session.addMarker(range, "readonly-highlight");
session.setMode("ace/mode/javascript");
editor.keyBinding.addKeyboardHandler({
handleKeyboard : function(data, hash, keyString, keyCode, event) {
if (hash === -1 || (keyCode <= 40 && keyCode >= 37)) return false;
if (intersects(range)) {
return {command:"null", passEvent:false};
}
}
});
before(editor, 'onPaste', preventReadonly);
before(editor, 'onCut', preventReadonly);
range.start = session.doc.createAnchor(range.start);
range.end = session.doc.createAnchor(range.end);
range.end.$insertRight = true;
function before(obj, method, wrapper) {
var orig = obj[method];
obj[method] = function() {
var args = Array.prototype.slice.call(arguments);
return wrapper.call(this, function(){
return orig.apply(obj, args);
}, args);
}
return obj[method];
}
function intersects(range) {
return editor.getSelectionRange().intersects(range);
}
function preventReadonly(next, args) {
if (intersects(range)) return;
next();
}
});
I got a problem when I keep pressing backspace it went into the read-only part and there was no editable part left.
How can I make multiple chunks of code read-only and avoid last character from read-only getting deleted.
Also, how to achieve the whole thing dynamically where I have markers in text specifying editable portions ?
Check the below code that allows multiple chunk of lines read-only with Enter at end of range to prevent non reversible delete and drag/drop handled.
function set_readonly(editor,readonly_ranges) {

This code snippet will prevent the user from editing the first or last line of the editor:
editor.commands.on("exec", function(e) {
var rowCol = editor.selection.getCursor();
if ((rowCol.row == 0) || ((rowCol.row + 1) == editor.session.getLength())) {
e.preventDefault();
e.stopPropagation();

Why is my jQuery/Javascript function not being called correctly with onsubmit?

I have this jQuery function that is using another jQuery library called html5csv.js (which explains some of the CSV stuff you will see)
Here is it:
function validateNewQuiz()
{
CSV.begin("#upload_csv").go(function(e,D)
{
if (e)
{
return console.log(e);
alert("Sorry, an error occured");
}
var s = "";
for (var i = 0; i <= D.rows.length - 1; i++)
{
s +=D.rows[i].join(',');
s += "\n";
}
var fullString = s;
if(/^(([^,]+,){4}[^,]+\n){3}$/.test(fullString))
{
return true;
}
else
{
return false;
}
});
}
Here is how I am trying to call my function, from an onsubmit within my form:
<form method="post" action="createplay.php" onsubmit="return validateNewQuiz();" enctype="multipart/form-data">
My function has been thoroughly tested, along with my regex to make sure it was working. When I decided to implement it into my large document, and wrap it around function validateNewQuiz(){ //my function here } , it stopped working.
I did not make my tests with the onsubmit part within my form either.
I tried fixing it two ways. One way was like this, splitting them into two functions:
var fullString = "";
CSV.begin("#upload_csv").go(function(e,D)
{
if (e)
{
return console.log(e);
alert("Sorry, an error occured");
}
var s = "";
for (var i = 0; i <= D.rows.length - 1; i++)
{
s +=D.rows[i].join(',');
s += "\n";
}
fullString = s;
});
function validateNewQuiz()
{
if(/^(([^,]+,){4}[^,]+\n){3}$/.test(fullString))
{
return true;
}
else
{
return false;
}
}
And the second way, by added the return outside of the CSV part:
var fullString = "";
function validateNewQuiz()
{
CSV.begin("#upload_csv").go(function(e,D)
{
if (e)
{
return console.log(e);
alert("Sorry, an error occured");
}
var s = "";
for (var i = 0; i <= D.rows.length - 1; i++)
{
s +=D.rows[i].join(',');
s += "\n";
}
fullString = s;
});
if(/^(([^,]+,){4}[^,]+\n){3}$/.test(fullString))
{
return true;
}
else
{
return false;
}
}
Does anyone have any suggestions to why my form is always submitting, even when my function should be returning false?
Here is another edit that I tried to make, although it is still submitting to my PHP and the console messages are not being displayed since that page is being submitted to PHP, therefore reloading
jQuery("#newQuizID").click(function(e)
{
e.preventDefault();
CSV.begin("#upload_csv").go(function(e,D)
{
if (e)
{
return console.log(e);
alert("Sorry, an error occured");
}
var s = "";
for (var i = 0; i <= D.rows.length - 1; i++)
{
s +=D.rows[i].join(',');
s += "\n";
}
var fullString = s;
if(/^(([^,]+,){4}[^,]+\n){3}$/.test(fullString))
{
console.log("Working");
jQuery("#form-step2").submit();
}
else
{
console.log("Not Working");
}
});
});
html5csv puts a event handler on the file input so it only triggers when a file is added so you need to set a valid flag somewhere and then check it before submitting
function checkValidCSV(e) {
var isValid = jQuery("#form-step2").data("hasValidData");
if( typeof(isValid) != "undefined" && isValid ) {
jQuery("#form-step2").submit();
} else {
//Do whatever invalid data cals you want to do here
alert("csv file was invalide so i am not submitting the form");
e.preventDefault();
}
}
function csvFileLoaded(e,D) {
if (e) {
return console.log(e);
alert("Sorry, an error occured");
}
var s = "";
for (var i = 0; i <= D.rows.length - 1; i++) {
s +=D.rows[i].join(',');
s += "\n";
}
var fullString = s;
if(/^(([^,]+,){4}[^,]+\n){3}$/.test(fullString)){
console.log("Valid Data");
jQuery("#form-step2").data("hasValidData",true);
} else {
console.log("Invalid Data");
jQuery("#form-step2").data("hasValidData",false);
}
}
jQuery(document).ready(function() {
CSV.begin("#upload_csv").go(csvFileLoaded);
jQuery("#newQuizID").click(checkValidCSV);
});

Bad escaping of EOL

I am trying to work with a simple WYSIWYG editor. JSLint is saying it has "Bad escaping of EOL". Since I am new to javascript I am having a hard time figuring out what it means, since I am working with code found online. Can anyone tell me please what I should be doing instead of ending the line with a slash?
Here is the code in question: http://jsfiddle.net/spadez/KSA5e/9/
/*
* WYSIWYG EDITOR BASED ON JQUERY RTE
*/
// define the rte light plugin
(function ($) {
if (typeof $.fn.rte === "undefined") {
var defaults = {
content_css_url: "rte.css",
dot_net_button_class: null,
max_height: 350
};
$.fn.rte = function (options) {
$.fn.rte.html = function (iframe) {
return iframe.contentWindow.document.getElementsByTagName("body")[0].innerHTML;
};
// build main options before element iteration
var opts = $.extend(defaults, options);
// iterate and construct the RTEs
return this.each(function () {
var textarea = $(this);
var iframe;
var element_id = textarea.attr("id");
// enable design mode
function enableDesignMode() {
var content = textarea.val();
// Mozilla needs this to display caret
if ($.trim(content) === '') {

}

EDIT: For bonus marks there are also two other errors which I haven't been able to squish -
Missing radix parameter
Height is better written in dot notation
JS didn't support end-of-line escaping with \ until ES5 - you can use multiple strings with a + operator instead, i.e.
"string 1" +
"string 2" +
"string 3"
Re: your other questions:
Use parseInt(n, 10) to force base (aka radix) 10, i.e. decimal
Use iframe.style.height instead of iframe.style['height']
You have two options:
1) activate multistr: true as suggested by #csharpfolk. (You can do it at file level by adding /*jshint multistr: true */ or add it in your linter config file (.jshintrc, .eslintrc, etc.)).
2) Replace your multistring as suggested by #Altinak or use an array and join:
["string 1",
"string 2",
"string 3",
].join('')

Javascript Events using HTML Class Targets - 1 Me - 0

I am trying to create collapsible DIVs that react to links being clicked. I found how to do this using "next" but I wanted to put the links in a separate area. I came up with this which works...
JSFiddle - Works
function navLink(classs) {
this.classs = classs;
}
var homeLink = new navLink(".content-home");
var aboutLink = new navLink(".content-about");
var contactLink = new navLink(".content-contact");
var lastOpen = null;
$('.home').click(function() {
if(lastOpen !== null) {
if(lastOpen === homeLink) {
return; } else {
$(lastOpen.classs).slideToggle('fast');
}
}
$('.content-home').slideToggle('slow');
lastOpen = homeLink;
}
);
$('.about').click(function() {
if(lastOpen !== null) {
if(lastOpen === aboutLink) {
return; } else {
$(lastOpen.classs).slideToggle('fast');
}
}
$('.content-about').slideToggle('slow');
lastOpen = aboutLink;
}
);
$('.contact').click(function() {
if(lastOpen !== null) {
if(lastOpen === contactLink) {
return; } else {
$(lastOpen.classs).slideToggle('fast');
}
}
$('.content-contact').slideToggle('slow');
lastOpen = contactLink;
}
);
I am now trying to create the same result but with a single function instead of one for each link. This is what I came up with....
function navLink(contentClass, linkClass, linkId) {
this.contentClass = contentClass;
this.linkClass = linkClass;
this.linkId = linkId;
}
var navs = [];
navs[0] = new navLink(".content-home", "nav", "home");
navs[1] = new navLink(".content-about", "nav", "about");
navs[2] = new navLink(".content-contact", "nav", "contact");
var lastOpen = null;
$('.nav').click(function(event) {
//loop through link objects
var i;
for (i = 0; i < (navsLength + 1); i++) {
//find link object that matches link clicked
if (event.target.id === navs[i].linkId) {
//if there is a window opened, close it
if (lastOpen !== null) {
//unless it is the link that was clicked
if (lastOpen === navs[i]) {
return;
} else {
//close it
$(lastOpen.contentClass).slideToggle('fast');
}
}
//open the content that correlates to the link clicked
$(navs[i].contentClass).slideToggle('slow');
navs[i] = lastOpen;
}
}
});
JSFiddle - Doesn't Work
No errors so I assume that I am just doing this completely wrong. I've been working with Javascript for only about a week now. I've taken what I've learned about arrays and JQuery events and tried to apply them here. I assume I'm way off. Thoughts? Thanks
You just forgot to define navsLength:
var navsLength=navs.length;
Of course you could also replace it with a $().each loop as you're using jQuery.
[Update] Two other errors I corrected:
lastOpen=navs[i];
for(i=0; i < navsLength ; i++)
Demo: http://jsfiddle.net/jMzPJ/4/
Try:
var current, show = function(){

restricting input tags to maximum 5

I have got following jquery tags plugin.
I want to to restrict maxmimum 5 tags, so that user can not enter more than 5 words (separated by spaces).
Can someone please help me doing it?
Thanks.. Following is original plugin code:
(function($) {
var delimiter = new Array();
jQuery.fn.addTag = function(value,options) {
var options = jQuery.extend({focus:false},options);
this.each(function() {
id = $(this).attr('id');
var tagslist = $(this).val().split(delimiter[id]);
if (tagslist[0] == '') {
tagslist = new Array();
}
value = jQuery.trim(value);
if (value !='') {
$('<span class="tag">'+value + ' x</span>').insertBefore('#'+id+'_addTag');
tagslist.push(value);
$('#'+id+'_tag').val('');
if (options.focus) {
$('#'+id+'_tag').focus();
} else {
$('#'+id+'_tag').blur();
}
}
jQuery.fn.tagsInput.updateTagsField(this,tagslist);
});
return false;
};
jQuery.fn.removeTag = function(value) {
this.each(function() {
id = $(this).attr('id');
var old = $(this).val().split(delimiter[id]);
$('#'+id+'_tagsinput .tag').remove();
str = '';
for (i=0; i< old.length; i++) {
if (escape(old[i])!=value) {
str = str + delimiter[id] +old[i];
}
}
jQuery.fn.tagsInput.importTags(this,str);
});
return false;
};
jQuery.fn.tagsInput = function(options) {
var settings = jQuery.extend({defaultText:'add a tag',width:'300px',height:'100px','hide':true,'delimiter':',',autocomplete:{selectFirst:false}},options);

$(event.data.fake_input).val('');
}
$(event.data.fake_input).css('color','#000000');
});
if (settings.autocomplete_url != undefined) {

return this;

jQuery.fn.tagsInput.updateTagsField = function(obj,tagslist) {
id = $(obj).attr('id');
$(obj).val(tagslist.join(delimiter[id]));
};
jQuery.fn.tagsInput.importTags = function(obj,val) {

})(jQuery);
best way is to count the number of "tag" classes already added, and then you can handle it differently, for example you can prevent showing the "add a tag" input once 5 tags inserted by defining maxTags and updating jQuery.fn.addTag and jQuery.fn.removeTag :

How about adding something like this:
if($('.tag').length>=5){
$('#tags_tag').attr('disabled','true');
}
I put a little more flair into my demo.
Probably the easiest solution is to change line 89 of jquery.tagsinput.js from:
var skipTag = $(tagslist).tagExist(value);
to:
var skipTag = $(tagslist).length > 5 || $(tagslist).tagExist(value);
