I'm trying to build an article system, where the content divs can be edited inline with ckeditor. The number of content divs is variable, so an article has for example two divs:
<div id="content_11439" contenteditable="true">Click to edit.</div>
<div id="content_11440" contenteditable="true">Click to edit.</div>
Now I have already browsed the forums, and have tried incorporating some answers into my solution for saving the text to my database. The inline editing part works, ckeditor shows and I can edit, but it seems like my code isn't being send to the php-file that should save it once I click somewhere else on the page and ckeditor closes.
The following code comes from these forums:
<script type="template" data-sample="1">
CKEDITOR.disableAutoInline = true;
$("div[contenteditable='true']" ).each(function( index ) {
var content_id = $(this).attr('id');
CKEDITOR.inline( content_id, {
on: {
blur: function( event ) {
var data = event.editor.getData();
var request = jQuery.ajax({
url: "http://www.xxxxxx/saveTextDetails.php",
type: "POST",
data: {
content : data,
content_id : content_id
},
dataType: "html"
});
}
}
} );
});
Jquery is loaded, I don't get any errors in my console, but I don't get any post-requests either, while I did manage to do about the same thing on a different page, to save the text in an input form when clicking a save button.
Thank you for your help.
Your problem was with data-sample="1" inside the <script> tag, which caused the script inside that tag to not run (which means the divs got automatically the ckeditor, and by CKEDITOR.inline( content_id.
Check this:
<script src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/2.1.1/jquery.min.js"></script>
<script src="http://code.jquery.com/ui/1.11.4/jquery-ui.js"></script>
<script src="http://cdn.ckeditor.com/4.4.7/standard/ckeditor.js"></script>
<div id="content_11439" contenteditable="true">Click to edit.</div>
<div id="content_11440" contenteditable="true">Click to edit.</div>
<script>
CKEDITOR.disableAutoInline = true;
$("div[contenteditable='true']" ).each(function( index ) {
var content_id = $(this).attr('id');
CKEDITOR.inline( content_id, {
on: {
blur: function( event ) {
var data = event.editor.getData();
alert("Sending: " + data)
/*
var request = jQuery.ajax({
url: "http://www.xxxxxx/saveTextDetails.php",
type: "POST",
data: {
content : data,
content_id : content_id
},
dataType: "html"
});
*/
}
}
} );
});
</script>

I've got a dropdown that runs AJAX each time an option is selected. The ajax call returns HTML markup (buttons and text boxes) and a script tag, which the HTML(buttons) uses to submit to a database via ajax.
<html>
<head>........</head>
<body>........</body>
<select class="chooseOption">
...
...
</select>
<div class="ajaxResult">
<!-- after successful ajax -->
<!-- HTML Markup here -->
<!-- I'm having to include main.js here again so that HTML matkup can use AJAX -->
</div>
....
....
....
<footer> //include main.js </footer>
This arrangement seems to work fine only that, there's an exponential call to main.js each time an option is selected.
Doing something like this(below) doesn't seem to work, I'm guessing because AJAX is injected into the page and isn't aware of what scripts that are already available on the page?
<script>
var len = $('script').filter(function () {
return ($(this).attr('src') == 'main.js');
}).length;
//if there are no scripts that match, the load it
if (len === 0) {
var url = "main.js";
$.getScript(url);
}
</script>
Is there a simple way around this? To make sure that main.js works across all AJAX requests without having to include it with each request?
Sample main.js content.
Ajax snippet that populates the HTML Markup (buttons and textboxes)
$("#students").on("change", function (e) {
e.preventDefault();
var supervise = this.value;
var faculty = $("#faculty").val();
$.ajax({
method: "POST",
url: 'URL',
dataType: 'html',
data:
{
selectValue: supervise,
faculty: faculty
},
success: function (result) {
$("#ajaxResult").html(result);
}
})
});
When #statement_button from HTML markup returned from select dropdown is clicked
$('#statement_button').click(function (e) {
var student_statement = $("#student_statement").val();
if (student_statement == '') {
alert('Please enter your statement');
return false;
}
var student = $("#student").val();
var statement_button = $(this).attr("value");
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
url: formsUrl,
dataType: 'text',
data:
{
student_statement: student_statement,
student: studentusername,
statement_button: statement_button
},
success: function (result) {
$("#result").text(result);
$("textarea#student_statement").val('');
}
})
});
From the code you posted it looks like you can just delegate the button handling to the .ajaxResult element which is always present in the html (from the initial load).
So just changing how you bind your button handlers should be enough
$("#students").on("change", function (e) {
to
$('.ajaxResult').on('change', '#students', function (e) {
$('#statement_button').click(function (e) {
to
$('.ajaxResult').on('click', '#statement_button', function (e) {
etc..
So the script with the above code is run once in the initial load of the page (in a $(document).ready(..))
I have two views main.php and details.php. In main.php there are numerous content and under each content there is a "view more" button. If somebody clicks view more an ajax call will dynamically load rest of the content from details.php which will fetch the data from database w.r.t the ID of the content. And it's a list style view in details.php.
In the header of main.php my main script file contains this code snippet to fetch data from details.php -
$('.view_more').click(function(e) {
$.ajax({
type: 'POST',
url: '/path/to/my/controller/method',
dataType: 'html',
success: function (html) {
$('#details_container').html(html);
}
});
});
Data is loading perfectly. But the problem is there is a add content button in details.php along with each content which has been loaded dynamically is not working. The content adding script is in my main.js added in main.php. But I have to add this particular jquery code snippet of adding the content in details.php, otherwise it's not working. So, whenever view more is being clicked it is returning html data along with a ....code for adding the content.... stick with it. Which is not at all desired.
How to solve this issue? Please help. Thanks in advance.
Here is the code of adding the content.
<script type="text/javascript">
$('.add_this').click(function(){
var t = jQuery(this);
var id_add = t.attr("id");
var content_category_id = t.attr("rel");
var add_content_id = id_add.substring(id_add.indexOf('_')+1);
var content_creator_id = t.attr("data-clip-id");
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
url: "/path/to/my/controller/method",
data: add_content_id,
cache: false,
success: function(response){
if(response)
{
$("#"+id_clip).text("Clipped");
}
}
});
});
</script>
I want to add again I am able to add the contents but to do so I have to embed this code snippet in details.php that I dont want to do. I need torun from my main script file.
This should work:
$(document).on('click','.add_this',function(){
var t = jQuery(this);
var id_add = t.attr("id");
var content_category_id = t.attr("rel");
var add_content_id = id_add.substring(id_add.indexOf('_')+1);
var content_creator_id = t.attr("data-clip-id");
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
url: "/path/to/my/controller/method",
data: add_content_id,
cache: false,
success: function(response){
if(response)
{
$("#"+id_clip).text("Clipped");
}
}
});
});
I have this in my head section.
<script type="text/javascript" src="post.js"></script>
I want this post.js to be also be implemented to the newly created elements.My another js file which is named as main.js have a code that get data from another php file and prepend it in a div with id display.Previous Loaded Div works great with the post.js file but as new elements are prepended, it does not work for new ones. Here is my main.js code which get data from php file and prepend it:
var auto_refresh8 = setInterval(function() {
var id = "id="+$(".ally:first").attr("id");
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
url: "get_post.php",
data: id,
cache: false,
success:function(html){
$('#display').prepend(html);
}
});
},2000);
this jquery ajax request get data from get_post.php file and prepend it to the div display. but the code in post.js doesn't work with this.The data returned by jquery ajax request contains a div with class comm which have to submitted when keypress function acts.
following is the code of post.js :
$(document).ready( function() {
$(".comm").keypress(function(e) {
if(e.which == 13) {
var id = $(this).attr("id");
var data = 'id=' + id;
var post = $(this).val();
var data1 = 'comment='+post;
var wholedata = data+'&'+data1;
$(this).blur();
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
url: "c_insert.php",
data: wholedata,
cache: false,
success:function(html){
$('.class_all'+id).append(html);
}
});
return false;
}
});
});
Use a delegate to handle the event in post.js file instead. See the jQuery documentation for more information.
Something like this should do it:
$('#display').on('keypress', '.comm', function (e) {
if(e.which == 13) {
// Do code on event
}
});
Note that the "on" function should only be used if you are using jQuery version 1.7 or later. Previous versions uses the function "delegate".
edit Changed $(document).on(...) to $('#display').on(...) since all '.comm'-elements are children of '#display'.
I am trying to make an admin page using AJAX so when the client updates information in the CKEDITOR it doesn't have to take him to a new page. Getting data from input fields are easy enough using the .val() function, but because textareas are not updated on the fly, I can't use that same function. Heres as far as I got:
// this replaces all textarea tags into CKEDITORS
<script type="text/javascript">
CKEDITOR.replaceAll();
</script>
//this attempts to grab all data from inputs and textareas
$(function() {
$("#submit").click(function() {
var newsTitle = $("#newsTitle").val();
var editNews = CKEDITOR.instances.editNews.getData();
var contactTitle = $("#contactTitle").val();
var editContact = CKEDITOR.instances.editContact.getData();
var linksTitle = $("#linksTitle").val();
var editLinks = CKEDITOR.instances.editLinks.getData();
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
url: "update.php",
data: 'newsTitle='+newsTitle+'&editNews='+editNews+'&contactTitle='+contactTitle+'&editContact='+editContact+'&linksTitle='+linksTitle+'&editLinks='+editLinks,
cache: false,
success: function(){
updated();
}
});
return false;
});
});
the getData() function seemed like it would work because I tested it with alerts and it was grabbing the data from the editors, but once I would try and update, it wouldn't work...
any ideas?
This code replaces the textarea:
<script type="text/javascript">
CKEDITOR.replace( 'TEXTAREA_ID', {
extraPlugins : 'autogrow',
removePlugins : 'resize',
entities : false
});
</script>
In the JS file this is the code and I am using Jquery Validator Plugin:
$(document).ready(function(){
jQuery.validator.messages.required = "";
$("#FormID").validate({
submitHandler: function(){
var ContentFromEditor = CKEDITOR.instances.TEXTAREA_ID.getData();
var dataString = $("#FormID").serialize();
dataString += '&ContentFromEditor='+ContentFromEditor;
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
url: "Yourfile.php",
data: dataString,
cache: false,
success: function(html){
YOU WORK WITH THE RETURN HERE
},
error: function(xhr, ajaxOptions, thrownError){
alert(xhr.responseText);
}
});
return false;
}
});
});
This is the line that most of the time creates the error:
CKEDITOR.instances.TEXTAREA_ID.getData();
After the instances always comes the ID of the textarea.
I have my own config.js that you can get from the ckeditor website or from the examples.
Tage a look at the CKEditor function/adaptor for jQuery
http://docs.cksource.com/CKEditor_3.x/Developers_Guide/jQuery_Adapter
Because setting and retrieving the editor data is a common operation, the jQuery Adapter also provides the dedicated val() method:
// Get the editor data.
var data = $( 'textarea.editor' ).val();
// Set the editor data.
$( 'textarea.editor' ).val( 'my new content' );
With this code, my problems were solved.
I updated the field running ckeditor to be seen in serialize.
$('#form').find('.class').each(function(index) {
$(this).val(CKEDITOR.instances[$(this).attr('id')].getData());
});
I am using jQuery to insert an HTML shell into a page, and populate the shell with XML. Here is the XML in question
<minorPropCategory title="Test Title 1">
<minorProp>FLV</minorProp>
<minorProp>BLV</minorProp>
<minorProp>RLV</minorProp>
</minorPropCategory>
<minorPropCategory title="Test Title 2">
<minorProp>LAS</minorProp>
<minorProp>ILV</minorProp>
<minorProp>BIL</minorProp>
</minorPropCategory>
So first, what I do is import an HTML snippet for each minorPropCategory, and add the title using this code
$(xml).find('minorPropCategory').each(function(){
var minorHeader=$(this).attr("title");
var minorId=$(this).attr("title").replace(/ /g,'');
var minorModuleContainerCode = "minorModuleContainer.html";
//names the div with a unique ID
minorDiv = $("<div id='"+minorId+"minorModuleContainer' class='minorModuleGroupContainer'>");
//Sets loading message in case it takes longer than usual to load
minorDiv.html("Loading......");
//After minorModuleContainerCode.html code loads, starts populating module
minorDiv.load(minorModuleContainerCode,"t",
function(){
$("#"+minorId+"minorModuleContainer").find(".minorModuleHeader").html(minorHeader);
}
);
$("#minorModuleContainer").append(minorDiv);
Then, what I want to do is add another HTML snippet, and then populate it. This is where I am having a problem. I can try it like this
//Create the actual minor modules
$(this).find('minorProp').each(function(){
var minorPropCode = $(this).text();
var minorModuleCode = "minorModule.html";
minorModuleDiv = $("<div id='"+minorPropCode+"minorModule' class='minorModule'>");
minorModuleDiv.html("Loading......");
minorModuleDiv.load(minorModuleCode,"b",
function(){
$.ajax({
type: "GET", url: minorPropCode+".xml", dataType: "xml",
success: function(xml3) {
$("#"+minorPropCode+"minorModule").find(".minorPropLogo").attr(
{
src:$(xml3).find('smallImage').text(),
alt:$(xml3).find('smallImageAlt').text()
}
);
}
});
});
$("#"+minorId+"minorModuleContainer").append(minorModuleDiv);
});
});
But it never shows up on the page, because I don't think it is firing at the proper time. Alternatively, I tried moving the creation of the minor modules into the .load function of it's parent, but I run into another problem. The code looks like this.
//MINOR MODULE CODE
$(xml).find('minorPropCategory').each(function(){
var minorHeader=$(this).attr("title");
var minorId=$(this).attr("title").replace(/ /g,'');
var minorModuleContainerCode = "minorModuleContainer.html";
//names the div with a unique ID
minorDiv = $("<div id='"+minorId+"minorModuleContainer' class='minorModuleGroupContainer'>");
//Sets loading message in case it takes longer than usual to load
minorDiv.html("Loading......");
//After minorModuleContainerCode.html code loads, starts populating module
minorDiv.load(minorModuleContainerCode,"t",
function(){
$("#"+minorId+"minorModuleContainer").find(".minorModuleHeader").html(minorHeader);
$(this).find('minorProp').each(function(){
alert("minorPropFired");
var minorPropCode = $(this).text();
var minorModuleCode = "minorModule.html";
minorModuleDiv = $("<div id='"+minorPropCode+"minorModule' class='minorModule'>");
minorModuleDiv.html("Loading......");
minorModuleDiv.load(minorModuleCode,"b",
function(){
$.ajax({
type: "GET", url: minorPropCode+".xml", dataType: "xml",
success: function(xml3) {
alert("test");
$("#"+minorPropCode+"minorModule").find(".minorPropLogo").attr(
{
src:$(xml3).find('smallImage').text(),
alt:$(xml3).find('smallImageAlt').text()
}
);
}
});
});
$("#"+minorId+"minorModuleContainer").append(minorModuleDiv);
});
The problem is, that the line with "$(this).find('minorProp').each(function(){" doesn't fire because "this" has changed. I guess, by now, my noob is showing. I feel like I am doing this in the wrong way. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
Posted below is the full .js file of what I am trying to do.
// JavaScript Document<script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript">
$(document).ready(function(){
//gets the code for the ad from the URL. Using URL jQuery add-on to make this super-easy
var adCode = $.url.param("adCode");
if (adCode != null){
//gets the ad code's XML file
$.ajax({
type: "GET", url: adCode+".xml", dataType: "xml",
success: function(xml) {
//Set the header image
$("#headerImg").attr(
{
src:$(xml).find('headerImage').text(),
alt:$(xml).find('headerImageAlt').text()
}
);
//set the header text
$("#headerText").html($(xml).find('adText').text());
//set the top image
$("#topImg").attr(
{
src:$(xml).find('topImage').text(),
alt:$(xml).find('topImageAlt').text()
}
);
//MAJOR MODULE CODE - This code reads all of the major modules, then adds a majorModule div, and populates it
//Gets all majorProps from ad XML
$(xml).find('majorProp').each(function(){
var propCode=$(this).text();
var majorModuleCode = "majorModule.html";
//names the div with a unique ID
div = $("<div id='"+propCode+"majorModule' class='majorModule'>");
//Sets loading message in case it takes longer than usual to load
div.html("Loading......");
//After majorModule.html code loads, starts populating module
div.load(majorModuleCode,"t",
function(){
//Get the XML for the prop, which contains prop specific stuff
$.ajax({

}
);
$("#"+propCode+"majorModule").find(".learnMoreLinkA").attr(

}
);
$("#"+propCode+"majorModule").find(".propText").html(
$(xml2).find('bodyText').text()

}
});
//Get the lowest rate for the prop
$.ajax({
type: "GET",
url: "lowest_rate\\"+propCode+".xml",
dataType: "xml",
success: function(xml3) {
$("#"+propCode+"majorModule").find(".roomRate").html(
"$"+($(xml3).find('roomtype').filter(
function (index) {
return $(this).attr("lowest") == "Y";
}).text()).slice(0, -3)
)
}
});
}
);
$("#mainModuleContainer").append(div);
});
//MINOR MODULE CODE
$(xml).find('minorPropCategory').each(function(){
var minorHeader=$(this).attr("title");
var minorId=$(this).attr("title").replace(/ /g,'');
var minorModuleContainerCode = "minorModuleContainer.html";
//names the div with a unique ID
minorDiv = $("<div id='"+minorId+"minorModuleContainer' class='minorModuleGroupContainer'>");
//Sets loading message in case it takes longer than usual to load
minorDiv.html("Loading......");
//After minorModuleContainerCode.html code loads, starts populating module
minorDiv.load(minorModuleContainerCode,"t",
function(){
$("#"+minorId+"minorModuleContainer").find(".minorModuleHeader").html(minorHeader);
}
);
$("#minorModuleContainer").append(minorDiv);
//Create the actual minor modules
$(this).find('minorProp').each(function(){
var minorPropCode = $(this).text();
var minorModuleCode = "minorModule.html";
minorModuleDiv = $("<div id='"+minorPropCode+"minorModule' class='minorModule'>");
minorModuleDiv.html("Loading......");
minorModuleDiv.load(minorModuleCode,"b",
function(){
$.ajax({

success: function(xml3) {
$("#"+minorPropCode+"minorModule").find(".minorPropLogo").attr(
{
src:$(xml3).find('smallImage').text(),
alt:$(xml3).find('smallImageAlt').text()
}
);
}
});
});
$("#"+minorId+"minorModuleContainer").append(minorModuleDiv);
});
});
}
});
}
});
To fix this problem just before running minorDiv.load do something like this
var elem = $(this);
minorDiv.load(minorModuleContainerCode,"t", function(){
$("#"+minorId+"minorModuleContainer").find(".minorModuleHeader").
html(minorHeader);
// replace $(this) with elem here
elem.find('minorProp').each(function(){
...
}
...
}
This will keep the reference to correct object in your nested functions.
