Cannot add custom element to jQuery DataTable header - javascript

I tried to add custom toolbar element (i.e. Checkbox) to the DataTable as indicated on Custom toolbar elements shown below, I cannot display the custom element on the header (there is no error on console). I also changed my javascript and css files with the ones on the example, but it did not make any sense. How can I add a Checkbox on DataTable header?
$(document).ready(function() {
$('#example').DataTable( {
"dom": '<"toolbar">frtip'
} );
$("div.toolbar").html('<b>Custom tool bar! Text/images etc.</b>');
} );
Here is what I want to do on the image below:

Do you want something like this ? Or provide your issue with fiddle or something.
$(document).ready(function() {
var table = $('#example').DataTable( {
'columnDefs': [{
'targets': 0,
'searchable': false,
'orderable': false,
'className': 'dt-body-center',
'render': function (data, type, full, meta){
return '<input type="checkbox" name="id[]" value="' + $('<div/>').text(data).html() + '">';
}
}],
"dom": '<"toolbar">frtip'
} );
$("div.toolbar").html('<input type="checkbox" name="demo" /> Get all records');
$('#example-select-all').on('click', function(){
// Get all rows with search applied
var rows = table.rows({ 'search': 'applied' }).nodes();
// Check/uncheck checkboxes for all rows in the table
$('input[type="checkbox"]', rows).prop('checked', this.checked);
});
} );
.toolbar {
float: left;
}

Auto Serial Number in Datatables along with responsive tables

I am unable to integrate auto serial number
https://datatables.net/examples/api/counter_columns.html
with responsive table type
https://datatables.net/extensions/responsive/examples/column-control/fixedHeader.html
Please tell me which attributes I need to change in Javascript to have both scripts in one table
Ps. please be little explanatory I am from non-tech background
any compilation of code (jsfiddle) will be appreciated
Also can auto serial numbers be sortable?
If I try adding scripts of both types it ends up in an error
<script type="text/javascript" language="javascript" class="init">
$(document).ready(function() {
var table = $('#example').DataTable( {
responsive: true
} );
new $.fn.dataTable.FixedHeader( table );
} );
</script>
<script type="text/javascript" language="javascript" class="init">
$(document).ready(function() {
var t = $('#example2').DataTable( {
"columnDefs": [ {
"searchable": false,
"orderable": false,
"targets": 0
} ],
"order": [[ 1, 'asc' ]]
} );
t.on( 'order.dt search.dt', function () {
t.column(0, {search:'applied', order:'applied'}).nodes().each( function (cell, i) {
cell.innerHTML = i+1;
} );
} ).draw();
} );
</script>
I even tried changing the class to example and example2
didnt work
pls help.
Here is a working sample that includes both index_column, responsive extension and the fixedHeader extension all working together.
Your Question: Also can auto serial numbers be sortable?
No. Directly from the documentation:
This column should not be sortable, and will change dynamically as the
ordering and searching applied to the table is altered by the end
user.
Reference
The most important parts of the code below are the stylesheet and javascript references in the HTML file and this line of code that turns on the fixedHeader:
new $.fn.dataTable.FixedHeader( table );
Hope that is enough explanation for you.
NOTE: if you are not familiar with this site, hit the [Run Snippet] button. Then you can click [full page] on the right. That will allow you resize to see the responsive extension is working.
$(document).ready(function() {
var table = $('#example').DataTable({
responsive: true,
paging: true, // works with or without paging
columnDefs: [{
searchable: false,
orderable: false,
targets: 0,
}],
order: [
[1, 'asc']
],
});
new $.fn.dataTable.FixedHeader(table);
table.on('order.dt search.dt', function() {
table.column(0, {
search: 'applied',
order: 'applied'
}).nodes().each(function(cell, i) {
cell.innerHTML = i + 1;
});
}).draw();
});

Can anybody tell me how to disable row selection for row based on cell data?
Thanks a lot.
Add class (i.e. ignoreme) on the specific rows tr elements according to your business logic. On row select event, check for that specific class and then call deselect method to ignore selection.
var table = $('#example').DataTable({
select: {
style: 'multi'
}
});
table.on('select', function(e, dt, type, indexes) {
if (type === 'row') {
var rows = table.rows(indexes).nodes().to$();
$.each(rows, function() {
if ($(this).hasClass('ignoreme')) table.row($(this)).deselect();
})
}
});
jsfiddle
The following is my implementation that can be used with ajax populated data and based on data identifiers. It also uses the select extension with checkboxes.
Just replace the "unselectables_IDs" var by a dynamic identifiers array retrieved from your json.
HTML Code (the table body shows fake ajax data) :
<table id="datatable" class="table table-hover table-striped table-condensed nowrap" width="100%">
<thead>
<tr>
<th>Identifier</th>
<th>Model</th>
<th>Order</th>
<th>Select</th>
</tr>
</thead>
<tbody>
<tr>
<td>1</td>
<td>SSS</td>
<td>1</td>
<td>Un-Selectable</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td>2</td>
<td>HHH</td>
<td>2</td>
<td>Un-Selectable</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td>3</td>
<td>CCC</td>
<td>3</td>
<td></td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td>4</td>
<td>CCC</td>
<td>4</td>
<td>Un-Selectable</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td>5</td>
<td>AAA</td>
<td>5</td>
<td></td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td>6</td>
<td>SSS</td>
<td>6</td>
<td></td>
</tr>
</tbody>
<tfoot>
<tr>
<th>Identifier</th>
<th>Model</th>
<th>Order</th>
<th>Select</th>
</tr>
</tfoot>
</table>
JS Code:
var table = $('#datatable').DataTable({
ajax: {
url: 'ajax_path',
type: 'POST',
},
paging: false, searching: false, dom: 'rt',
order: [],
columnDefs: [
{ targets: [0], type: 'natural', },
{ targets: [3], className: 'select-checkbox dt-center', orderable: false, width: '70px', },
],
select: {
style: 'os',
selector: 'td.select-checkbox:not(.not-selectable):last-child',
},
buttons: [],
initComplete: function(settings, json) {
// Select checkbox behaviors...
var checkbox_colIdx = 3
var identifiers_colIdx = 0;
var table = $('#datatable').DataTable();
var unselectables_IDs = ['1', '2', '4']; // to be replace by your json response i.e. json['unselectables_IDs']
var row_IDs = table.column(identifiers_colIdx).data();
$(row_IDs).each(function(index, value) {
var row_ID = value.replace(/\D/g,'');
if ($.inArray(row_ID, unselectables_IDs) !== -1) {
$(table.row(index).node()).addClass('not-selectable');
$(table.row(index).node()).children('td.select-checkbox').removeClass('select-checkbox');
}
});
// Deselect unselectable rows (that can still be selected by using the shift key)...
table.on('select', function(e, dt, type, indexes) {
if (type === 'row') {
var rows = table.rows(indexes).nodes();
$.each($(rows), function() {
if ($(this).hasClass('not-selectable')) table.row($(this)).deselect();
})
}
});
},
});
Here is a fiddle with fake data : https://jsfiddle.net/sq3hsua3/3/
Just return false in the selection event. It will stop selection of that particular row.
You can get the data from table row data() property
I know that the question has already been responded to, but I have a better solution for this:
Simply change
select: {
style: 'multi'
}
to this:
select: {
style: 'single'
}

How to get the DOM of cells in a single column with a hidden row in DataTables jquery?

I want to get the "dom" not the raw html text of a hidden row in datatables jquery.
An example of this is if you use the search feature of the DataTables some rows will be hidden and when I use the jquery method for getting the dom, the only ones that I get are the visible rows and when I use the datatables function columns().data() I get an array of string but then again I need to get the dom of a column.
$(document).ready(function(){
var oTable = $('#example').DataTable();
$('#jquery-button').on('click', function(){
$('.row-office').each(function(){
console.log($(this).val());
});
});
$('#datatables-button').on('click', function(){
oTable.columns(2).data().each(function(){
var columnVal = $(this);
console.log(columnVal);
});
});
});
Jsfiddle: https://jsfiddle.net/kzjay8mt/
where the jquery button prints in the console all the the visible dom elements with the text input in the class row-office
and the datatables button prins in the console all the "text values" of the whole table.
What I need is a single button to iterate and get all of the value of text input in the "Test Column".
Is there a way to do this in datatables or is it not possible?
Here my answer based on this answer like I suggest to you.
On each items in oTable.columns(2, { search:'applied' }).data(), I attemp a $().val(). If it's an input, jQuery will return the value or undefined.
$(document).ready(function(){
var oTable = $('#example').DataTable();
$('#jquery-button').on('click', function(){
$('.row-office').each(function(){
console.log($(this).val());
});
});
$('#datatables-button').on('click', function(){
var tds = oTable.columns(2, { search:'applied' }).data();
for (var i = 0; i < tds[0].length; i++){
if ($(tds[0][i]).val())
console.log( $(tds[0][i]).val() );
}
});
});

The dataTable object doesn't save a reference to the dom (partially due to the fact that all of the "hidden rows" are not part of the dom).
If you need DOM objects to work with what you can do is convert the strings to DOM elements (using $(...)):
$('#datatables-button').on('click', function(){
var domElements = $()
$.each(oTable.columns(2).data()[0], function(i, elString) {
domElements = domElements.add($(elString))
});
console.log(domElements);
});
This will not work on cells that contain only strings (no tags), however you said you need only the input elements, so I guess it's good enough...
The following code is using DOM to align in a row.
"dom": "<'row'<'col-sm-12 col-md-6'l><'col-sm-12 col-md-6'f>>" +
"<'row'<'col-sm-12'B>>" +
"<'row'<'col-sm-12'tr>>" +
"<'row'<'col-sm-12 col-md-5'i><'col-sm-12 col-md-7'p>>"

now what can i do?
I was struggling with the same issue, the fix I found was quite simple: You need to reorganize the scripts you applying to your code so fixedColumns.min.js always comes after jquery.dataTables.min.js and your own created JS file last.
example:
#The script version or source(cdn or local) may vary, just pay attention for jquery.dataTables.min.js and dataTables.fixedColumns.min.js
<script type="text/javascript" src="https://cdn.datatables.net/1.10.11/js/jquery.dataTables.min.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript" src="https://cdn.datatables.net/fixedcolumns/3.2.1/js/dataTables.fixedColumns.min.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript" src="myJsFile.js"></script>

Select Row in Single Click in Datatable and Export Selected Data as Excel

I am using a datatable to populate data into it. The requirement is that this data is to be exported. The User can export "Selected Rows" or "All" the Data at once. I have used the datatable export Excel functionality which creates buttons two buttons "Export All" and "Export Selected" which exports the data. Export All works fine but when I use the functionality of datatable to select rows using "select:true", I have to use the CTRL Button to select multiple rows, and it works fine and exports data as well but I don't want this, so I created a click event on the table.tr which adds the selected class to TR, which selects the row, but after selecting the row, when I export the data, nothing export's, the excel is blank. What may be the issue, "select:true" adds class selected to the TR and I am also adding class selected to the TR on click but why the data is not exporting, can anyone has idea about this. I have also created a fiddle: Datatable Fiddle
My code is as:
<table id="example" cellspacing="0" width="100%" class="display row-border nowrap table-striped responsive-utilities jambo_table">

<th>Name</th>
<th>Company</th>
<th>Office Phone</th>
<th>Country</th>

<td class="dt-center">1</td>
<td class="dt-center">1</td>
<td class="dt-center">United Kingdom</td>
<td class="dt-center not-exported">Edit Button</td>
</tr>
<tr>
