Cant find my error in this html - javascript

Hey guys i got the following Problem. I got this Html right here which should connect to my node.js Server and trigger Events anyway the Website connects but when i click a button they dont emit the events. So i assume an error with the jquery.
so this is my HTML
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<head>
<meta charset="utf-8" />
<title>Socket.io</title>
<script src="jquery-1.12.4.min.js"></script>
<script src="/socket.io/socket.io.js"></script>
</head>
<body>
<h1>Communicating with socket.io!</h1>
<input type="text" name="geschwindigkeit" id="v">
<input type="text" name="Neigung" id="acc">
<p><input type="button" value="Move" id="move" /></p>
<p><input type="button" value="Start" id="poke" /></p>
<p><input type="button" value="test" id="test" /></p>
<script>
var socket = io.connect();
// A dialog box is displayed when the server sends us a "message"
socket.on('message', function(message) {
alert('Nachricht: ' + message);
})
// When the button is clicked, a "message" is sent to the server
$('#poke').click(function () {
socket.emit('message', 'move2');
})
$('#test').click(function () {
socket.emit('message', 'test');
})
// When the button is clicked, a "message" is sent to the server
$('#move').click(function () {
var geschw = document.getElementById("v").value;
var neig = document.getElementById("acc").value;
socket.emit('move', 'move ' + geschw + ' ' + neig);
})
</script>
</body>
and the Node server
var http = require('http');
var fs = require('fs');
// Loading the file index.html displayed to the client
var server = http.createServer(function(req, res) {
fs.readFile('./index.html', 'utf-8', function(error, content) {
res.writeHead(200, {"Content-Type": "text/html"});
res.end(content);
});
});
// Loading socket.io
var io = require('socket.io').listen(server);
io.sockets.on('connection', function (socket) {
// When the client connects, they are sent a message
console.log('Client verbunden');
socket.emit('message', 'Willkommen');
// The other clients are told that someone new has arrived
socket.broadcast.emit('message', 'Another client has just connected!');
// When a "message" is received (click on the button), it's logged in the console
socket.on('message', function (message){
console.log(message);
});
socket.on('move', function(message){
console.log(message);
});
});
server.listen(8080);

node js simple chat app delay on event trigger

i prepared a simple chat system while practicing node.js. but theres a problem while sending messages. quite a good amount of delay taking place while sending messages and i couldnt figure out why. can anyone help me how to improve attached code ?
server.js
var app = require('express')();
var http = require('http').Server(app);
var io = require('socket.io')(http);
app.get('/', function(request, response) {
response.sendFile(__dirname + '/index.html');
});
io.on('connection', function(client) {
client.on('messageSend', function(data) {
client.broadcast.emit('messageRecieve', data);
});
});
http.listen(9090, function() {
console.log('Listening on port 9090');
io.on('connect', function(socket) {
console.log("Connection established : " + socket.client.conn.remoteAddress);
})
});
index.html
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<head>
<meta charset="utf-8" />
<title>Socket Test</title>
<script src="/socket.io/socket.io.js"></script>
<script>
var socket = io();
function messageSend() {
var message = document.getElementById("messageInput").value;
console.log(message);
var ul = document.getElementById("messageNode");
var li = document.createElement("li");
li.appendChild(document.createTextNode(message));
li.setAttribute("style", "font-style : italic; color : red;");
ul.appendChild(li);
socket.emit('messageSend', message);
}
socket.on('messageRecieve', function(data) {
var message = data;
var ul = document.getElementById("messageNode");
var li = document.createElement("li");
li.appendChild(document.createTextNode(message));
ul.appendChild(li);
console.log(message);
});
</script>
</head>
<body>
<input id="messageInput" type="text"> <button onclick="messageSend()">Send</button><br>
<ul id="messageNode">
</ul>
</body>
</html>
the official socket.io example sends the message to everyone, including yourself
io.on('connection', function(socket){
socket.on('chat message', function(msg){
io.emit('chat message', msg);
});
});
You sent to everyone except yourself (which is the most accurate method)
io.on('connection', function(client) {
client.on('messageSend', function(data) {
client.broadcast.emit('messageRecieve', data);
});
});
The reason for your slowdown is probably becouse your browser puts your out-of-focus tabs in a sort of sleep mode, which makes it update much less frequently... If you compare your code vs socket.io's code between computer and phone via lan. I would guess the speed for your server-sent message would be the same
Right now you are basically competing versus socket.io's "optimistic updates". It pushes the message to your client directly without waiting for the server, which your own code does. As well as browser out-of-focus low priority mode

socket io not giving the desired output

I have created a index.js which loads index.html using sockets.
the server is running successfully and also the index.html page loads. but cant append the written text in the div.
index.js
var express = require('express'),
app = express(),
server = require('http').createServer(app),
io = require('socket.io').listen(server);
server.listen(3000, function() {
console.log("SERVER CREATED WITH PORT 3000");
});
app.get('/', function(req, res) {
res.sendfile(__dirname + '/index.html');
});
io.sockets.on('connection', function(socket) {
socket.on('send', function(data) {
io.sockets.emit('new', data);
});
});
index.html
<html>
<head>
<title>chat</title>
<style>
#chat {
height: 500px;
}
</style>
</head>
<body>
<div id="chat"></div>
<form id="send-message">
<input id="message" />
<input type="submit" />
</form>
<h1>Working</h1>
<script src="jquery-3.2.1.min.js"></script>
<script src="/socket.io/socket.io.js"></script>
<script>
jQuery(function($) {
var socket = io.connect();
var $messageform = $('#send-message');
var $messagebox = $('#message');
var $chat = $('#chat');
$messageform.submit(function(e) {
e.preventDefault();
socket.emit('send', $messagebox.val());
$messagebox.val('');
});
socket.on('new', function(data) {
$chat.append(data + "<br />");
});
});
</script>
</body>
</html>
These are the files which I have created and want to send the text to all tabs.
The browser just gets refreshed without loading the text when submit is hit.
Please let me know what I am doing wrong.

Get data by socket.io in html page

I have read a lot of tutorial, and sample code to send data from a node.js class to an html page and show this data.
such as link1, link2,link3,link4,link5
and some others.
I am getting some data from UDP listener and need to send it after some processing to an html page to show it. here is my code:
The udp receiver:
var server_port = process.env.OPENSHIFT_NODEJS_PORT || 8080
var server_ip_address = process.env.OPENSHIFT_NODEJS_IP || '127.0.0.1'
var http = require('http'),
dgram = require('dgram'),
socketio = require('socket.io'),
fs = require('fs');
var html = fs.readFileSync(__dirname + '/html/showMap.html');
var app = http.createServer(function(req, res) {
res.writeHead(200, {
'Content-type': 'text/html'
});
res.end(html);
io.sockets.emit('welcome', { message: 'Welcome!'});
}).listen( server_port, server_ip_address, function() {
console.log('Listening');
});
var io = socketio.listen(app),
socket = dgram.createSocket('udp4');
socket.on('message', function(content, rinfo) {
console.log('got message', content, 'from', rinfo.address, rinfo.port);
io.sockets.emit('udp message', 'content' /*content.toString()*/);
});
socket.bind(5001);
and my html page which is called 'showMap.html'
<html>
<head>
<meta name="viewport" content="initial-scale=1.0, user-scalable=no">
<meta charset="utf-8">
<title>Get Data</title>
<script src="/socket.io/socket.io.js"></script>
</head>
<body>
<div id="results"> This text will change </div>
<div id="date">sample another temp text</div>
<script>
// client code here
var socket = io.connect('localhost', {port: 8080});
socket.on('udp message', function(message) {
console.log(message)
document.getElementById("date").innerHTML = "My new text!";
});
socket.on('welcome', function(data) {
document.getElementById("results").innerHTML = data.message;
});
</script>
</body>
</html>
but by sending packet, html page has not changed.
Here is my console log of running code:
Atis-MacBook-Pro:startWithNode muser$ npm start
StartWithNodejs#1.0.0 start /Volumes/Project/Project/NodeJS/startWithNode
node index.js
Listening got message from 127.0.0.1 64047
What is wrong in my code?
I tested this locally. In your HTML file I made two changes and it worked.
1 - Replace io.connect('localhost', {port: 8080}); with io.connect('localhost:8080');
2 - There was a strange \u200b character at the end of the document.getElementById("date").innerHTML = "My new text!"; line. I deleted that and ended up with:
<html>
<head>
<meta name="viewport" content="initial-scale=1.0, user-scalable=no">
<meta charset="utf-8">
<title>Get Data</title>
<script src="/socket.io/socket.io.js"></script>
</head>
<body>
<div id="results"> This text will change </div>
<div id="date">sample another temp text</div>
<script>
// client code here
var socket = io.connect('localhost:8080');
socket.on('udp message', function(message) {
console.log(message)
document.getElementById("date").innerHTML = "My new text!";
});
socket.on('welcome', function(data) {
document.getElementById("results").innerHTML = data.message;
});
</script>
</body>
</html>
Which replaces the content of results.
in this example you will be able to get JSON data from php file and send it to all connected clients.
RunThisFileThroughNodeJs.js
var app = require('express')();
var http = require('http').Server(app);
var io = require('socket.io')(http);
var port = process.env.PORT || 3000;
var request = require("request")
var url = "http://localhost/api/index.php";
events = require('events'),
serverEmitter = new events.EventEmitter();
app.get('/', function(req, res){
res.sendFile(__dirname + '/index.html');
});
io.on('connection', function(socket){
setInterval(
function(){
request({
url: url,
json: true
}, function (error, response, body) {
if (!error && response.statusCode === 200) {
io.emit('chat message', body);
}
});
},5000);
});
http.listen(port, function(){
console.log('listening on *:' + port);
});
Don't Forget to install express , request for nodejs
Now make this file i will call it index.html so the response of my file will be here.
index.html
<!doctype html>
<html>
<head>
<title>Prices API</title>
<script src="http://localhost/js/socket.io.js"></script>
</head>
<body>
<div id="price_list"></div>
<script>
var socket = io();
socket.on('chat message', function(msg){
document.getElementById("price_list").innerHTML = JSON.stringify(msg);
console.log(msg);
});
</script>
</body>
</html>

Socket.io socket.emit not passing data to server

I was trying my hands on Socket.io.
I have the following code.
This is my index.html.
<!doctype html>
<html>
<body>
<ul id="messages"></ul>
<form action="" onsubmit="return sayHello()">
<input id="m" autocomplete="off" /><button>Send</button>
</form>
<script src="https://cdn.socket.io/socket.io-1.2.0.js"></script>
<script>
var socket = io.connect('http://127.0.0.1:3001/');
function sayHello(){
var msg = document.getElementById('m');
console.log(msg); <- This is getting printed.
socket.emit('message', msg.value);
msg.value='';
return (false);
}
// $('form').submit(function(){
// socket.emit('chat message', $('#m').val());
// $('#m').val('');
// return false;
// });
// socket.on('chat message', function(msg){
// $('#messages').append($('<li>').text(msg));
// });
</script>
</body>
</html>
This is my server.js
var app = require('express')();
var http = require('http').Server(app);
var io = require('socket.io')(http);
app.get('/', function(req, res){
res.sendFile(__dirname + '/index.html');
});
io.on('connection', function(socket){
console.log("GO!") <- This is getting printed
socket.on('chat message', function(msg){
console.log(msg); <- This is not getting printed.
io.emit('chat message', msg);
});
});
http.listen(3001, function(){
console.log('listening on *:3001');
});
I have cloned the sample project from the Socket.io website. I was trying to modify some code by replacing the Jquery with VanillaJS.
You are listening for chat message but emitting message from client. Event name provided with .emit must match with the event name being listened on the server in .on handler.
//SERVER SIDE CODE
var app = require('express')();
var http = require('http').Server(app);
var io = require('socket.io')(http);
app.get('/', function(req, res) {
res.sendFile(__dirname + '/index.html');
});
io.on('connection', function(socket) {
console.log("GO!") < -This is getting printed
socket.on('chat message', function(msg) {
console.log(msg); < -This is not getting printed.
io.emit('chat message', msg);
});
});
http.listen(3001, function() {
console.log('listening on *:3001');
});
<!doctype html>
<html>
<body>
<ul id="messages"></ul>
<form action="" onsubmit="return sayHello()">
<input id="m" autocomplete="off" />
<button>Send</button>
</form>
<script src="https://cdn.socket.io/socket.io-1.2.0.js"></script>
<script>
var socket = io.connect('http://127.0.0.1:3001/');
function sayHello() {
var msg = document.getElementById('m');
console.log(msg); < -This is getting printed.
socket.emit('chat message', msg.value);
//-----------^^^^^^^^^^^^ Event name must match with the `.on` listener on the server!
msg.value = '';
return (false);
}
</script>
</body>
</html>

Collaborative editing : document.getElementById not updting the display

Please I have this small demo of a collaborative editor in a pub/sub fashion.
Scenario:
Server :S
Clients : A, B
A sends text S.
S receives text and brodcast to B.
B sends text to S.
S receives text and brodcast to A, A receive text, but document.getElementById is not updting the display.
I suspect the problem is with javascript execution order...
I am bit confused, can someone points me what goes wrong with my client ?
Server:
var app = require('express')();
var http = require('http').createServer(app)
var io = require('socket.io').listen(http);

io.sockets.on('connection', function(socket){
console.log('Connected to a new client');
socket.on('room', function(room) {
socket.join(room);
console.log('join room '+ room);
});
socket.on('disconnect', function(){
socket.disconnect();
console.log('Disconnected from a client');
});
var room= 'room1';
//Data exchange between client and server
//Server receives new data from a client and broadcast it to others
