NWJS updating progress bar during long loop javascript - javascript

I'm having some troubles with javascript.
I'm trying to do a desktop app with NW.JS. I have a .xml file which I drag and drop in my app then it run a function to read the XML do some stuff and save a new file in .csv
It's work fine but now i would be able to update a progress bar during the function...
I tried setInterval and setTimeOut() but I'mhaving always the same result : nothing append until the function is finished.
here is my code
//Same as $(document).ready();
function ready(fn) {
if (document.readyState != 'loading'){
fn();
} else {
document.addEventListener('DOMContentLoaded', fn);
}
}
//When the page has loaded, run this code
ready(function(){
// prevent default behavior from changing page on dropped file
window.ondragover = function(e) { e.preventDefault(); return false };
// NOTE: ondrop events WILL NOT WORK if you do not "preventDefault" in the ondragover event!!
window.ondrop = function(e) { e.preventDefault(); return false };
var holder = document.getElementById('holder');
holder.ondragover = function () { this.className = 'hover'; return false; };
holder.ondragleave = function () { this.className = ''; return false; };
holder.ondrop = function (e) {
e.preventDefault();
var file = e.dataTransfer.files[0],
reader = new FileReader();
reader.onload = function (event) {
########I'm doing stuff here to convert file and i want to update the progressbar##########
};
reader.readAsText(file);
//reader.readAsDataURL(file);
return false;
};
});
Thanks for your help
best regards,

After trying the same code in NWJS and Electron, I found the problem to be that any long-running process in the 'main' Chromium process blocks rendering. The solution is to spawn a child process that communicates via Node's IPC. More details in this answer.

Javascript inline script onchange not working

i'm having a problem on making my code to adjust to my web server, because of the security purposes, all inline javascript code to my html is not allowed.
everything is already okay i'm just having a hard time converting my other code to pure javascript
Here is my existing code,,,
<label class=qrcode-text-btn><input type=file accept="image/*" capture=environment id="openQRCamera" tabindex=-1></label>
the original code is this
<label class=qrcode-text-btn><input type=file accept="image/*" capture=environment onchange="openQRCamera(this);" tabindex=-1></label>
the onchange is not working because it is inline in the html.
this function needs to open a camera and detect if there is a qr that exists.
here is what i have now on converting it.
document.querySelector("#openQRCamera").addEventListener('onchange', (node) => {
var reader = new FileReader();
reader.onload = function() {
node.value = "";
qrcode.callback = function(res) {
if(res instanceof Error) {
alert("There is no QR detected");
} else {
node.parentNode.previousElementSibling.value = res;
}
};
qrcode.decode(reader.result);
};
reader.readAsDataURL(node.files[0]);
});
here is the original code
function openQRCamera(node) {
var reader = new FileReader();
reader.onload = function() {
node.value = "";
qrcode.callback = function(res) {
if(res instanceof Error) {
alert("There is no QR detected");
} else {
node.parentNode.previousElementSibling.value = res;
}
};
qrcode.decode(reader.result);
};
reader.readAsDataURL(node.files[0]);
}
i am using this website as my source of code, everything is working fine in my localhost, but the server is just strict, and i think that's normal for all the websites.
https://www.sitepoint.com/create-qr-code-reader-mobile-website/
i just been stuck and try to do other solution like adding event listener, and append of input just by using jquery, but it's not working. thanks in advance.
The event listener you are using is faulty, instead of listenning to 'onchange' you have to listen to 'change' like so:
document.querySelector("#openQRCamera").addEventListener('change', () => {
//remove the node as parameter and get it with javascript:
var node = document.getElementById('openQRCamera');

How to code for onMouseOver event in Autodesk Forge

I have created a simple extension in autodesk forge.
The idea is that when I make a mouse-over event on a 3D object it has to show me the ID of the hovered object/sub-object my extension code runs like this.
AutodeskNamespace("Autodesk.ADN.Viewing.Extension");
Autodesk.ADN.Viewing.Extension.MouseEvent = function (viewer, options) {
Autodesk.Viewing.Extension.call(this, viewer, options);
var _self = this;
var _viewer = viewer;
var _selectedId = null;
//On Load of the exension function
_self.load = function () {
_viewer.addEventListener(
Autodesk.Viewing.MOUSE_OVER_EVENT,
_self.onMouseOver);
console.log("Autodesk.ADN.MouseEvent loaded");
return true;
};
//On unload of the exension function
_self.unload = function () {
_viewer.removeEventListener(
Autodesk.Viewing.MOUSE_OVER_EVENT,
_self.onMouseOver);
console.log("Autodesk.ADN.MouseEvent unloaded");
return true;
};
// Event function initialization
_self.onMouseOver = function (event) {
var dbId = event.dbIdArray[0];
if (typeof dbId !== 'undefined') {
_selectedId = dbId;
alert('ID: ' + _selectedId);
}
else _selectedId = null;
}
};
Autodesk.ADN.Viewing.Extension.MouseEvent.prototype =
Object.create(Autodesk.Viewing.Extension.prototype);
Autodesk.ADN.Viewing.Extension.MouseEvent.prototype.constructor =
Autodesk.ADN.Viewing.Extension.MouseEvent;
Autodesk.Viewing.theExtensionManager.registerExtension(
'Autodesk.ADN.Viewing.Extension.MouseEvent',
Autodesk.ADN.Viewing.Extension.MouseEvent);
but the onMouseOver function is not working, can anyone please help me? thanks in advance.
PS: I have included the extensions in the script tags and the extension is loaded likewise.
oViewer.loadExtension('Autodesk.ADN.Viewing.Extension.MouseEvent');
I also get a confirmation from the console that the extension is loaded successfully.
There is no such event as Autodesk.Viewing.MOUSE_OVER_EVENT ... did you just made that up or you got it from some - apparently incorrect - source?
The way to handle that would be to use a viewer tool (see that post for details), then in handleMouseMove callback, do the following:
handleMouseMove (event) {
var hitTest = _self.viewer.clientToWorld(
event.canvasX,
event.canvasY,
true)
if (hitTest) {
console.log(hitTest)
}
}
Here is another post I wrote about viewer events, it is a bit old, so there are a couple more now but can give you a good starting point.

Universal button handler in javascript

I have a lot of buttons on my web app that request and post data to PHP to retrieve and update a database. I am struggling to create a universal way to prevent multiple button clicks when submitting forms, because I am using AJAX and Jquery.
This is my current implementation but I can't even tell if it works. It seems to work 99% of the time.
In my common functions.js file I have this function which is in the global scope
var canClick = true;
function buttonWithPromise(promise){
if(!canClick) return;
canClick = false;
promise.done(function(){
canClick = true;
});
}
Then any time I attach a .click to a dom element I do it like this:
$('body').on('click', '.table > .row', function(){
var nbr = $(this).attr('nbr');
buttonWithPromise(get_count(nbr));
});
And some function that might be called will have a deferred object.
function get_count(){
var defer = $.Deferred();
var options = "getCount"
Query.init(options)
.fetchData(function(data){ //Ajax data request
if(data){
}
defer.resolve();
});
return defer.promise();
}
Since this only sometimes works, I can tell it's wrong. Any advice for improvements?
Everything in Javascript is an object, yes? So why not:
$('body').on('click', '.button', function()
{
// Set default value of property
if(typeof this.isClicked === 'undefined')
this.isClicked = false;
// Check if button is working
if(this.isClicked)
{
// Send error to console if button is busy
console.log('Cannot click as a network action is occuring!');
}else
{
// Begin new network action if button is not busy
var self = this;
console.log('Begin network for: ' + $(this).text());
this.isClicked = true;
setTimeout(function()
{
// Reset button state once network action is done
console.log('End network for: ' + $(self).text());
self.isClicked = false;
//Call any callbacks/promises here
}, 5000);
}
});
Fiddle:
http://jsfiddle.net/mdLfug1t/
NOTE: I'm using setTimeout to simulate an ajax request
EDIT: Let me put this more into context:
function buttonWithPromise(promise)
{
if(typeof promise.canClick === 'undefined')
promise.canClick = true;
if(!promise.canClick) return;
promise.canClick = false;
promise.done(function()
{
promise.canClick = true;
});
}
The problem that you're running into is that "canClick" is global and so gets modified by every promise. You need to make it a property of a promise so that you can create infinite promises, each with their own instance of canClick.

"Can't open same-window link" when dropping a file on a Chrome App

This error message pop up in the terminal while I try to handle file dropping in chrome packaged app:
Can't open same-window link to "path/to/some/file.txt"; try target="_blank".
This is the code I was using:
$.fn.extend({
filedrop: function (options) {
var defaults = {
callback : null
}
options = $.extend(defaults, options)
return this.each(function() {
var files = []
var $this = $(this)
// Stop default browser actions
$this.bind('dragover dragleave', function(event) {
event.stopPropagation()
event.preventDefault()
})
// Catch drop event
$this.bind('drop', function(event) {
// Stop default browser actions
event.stopPropagation()
event.preventDefault()
// Get all files that are dropped
files = event.originalEvent.target.files || event.originalEvent.dataTransfer.files
// Convert uploaded file to data URL and pass trought callback
if(options.callback) {
var reader = new FileReader()
reader.onload = function(event) {
options.callback(event.target.result)
}
reader.readAsDataURL(files[0])
}
return false
})
})
}
})
// Event listener filedropper
$('.dropbox').filedrop({
callback : function(fileEncryptedData) {
console.log(fileEncryptedData);
}
})
Is this something to do with chrome app permission or something in my code. There's already e.stopPropagation in there so i have no idea why.

Accessing file system using javascript in firefox or chrome?

I had been able to do this up until Firefox 15 using:
netscape.security.privilegeManager.enablePrivilege("UniversalXPConnect")
and setting the signed.applets.codebase_principal_support option to true. Unfortunately as of FF 17 this functionality has been removed. From what I understand Chrome has been the same way for some time now.
Does anyone know if there has been a Firefox or Chrome extension created that allows for the use of enablePrivilege? If not, recommendations on where to start if building my own?
File API, the reason those have stopped working is because both have now implemented the html5 file api.
Here is a html5 demo of the api.
Here is the relevant script in case they remove the demo:
<script>
var holder = document.getElementById('holder'),
state = document.getElementById('status');
if (typeof window.FileReader === 'undefined') {
state.className = 'fail';
} else {
state.className = 'success';
state.innerHTML = 'File API & FileReader available';
}
holder.ondragover = function () { this.className = 'hover'; return false; };
holder.ondragend = function () { this.className = ''; return false; };
holder.ondrop = function (e) {
this.className = '';
e.preventDefault();
var file = e.dataTransfer.files[0],
reader = new FileReader();
reader.onload = function (event) {
console.log(event.target);
holder.style.background = 'url(' + event.target.result + ') no-repeat center';
};
console.log(file);
reader.readAsDataURL(file);
return false;
};
</script>
As a note: if you need to access a file on your local machine in chrome you need to run the program using this switch --allow-file-access-from-files (for using a file input without it actually loading to the server, otherwise you get a xhr cross-domain error).
I don't know of the equivalent in firefox.
