I want to add new bars to existing d3 bar chart and make it real time graph.
I can see the bars are getting updated but labels are not aligning themselves when the bars rescales.

As you can see, when you append to an enter selection, the operations that follow only target the new elements that were appended.
If you want to target both new and old elements, you should operate on the update selection after entering the nodes.

In the first case it did not work, because the attributes will get updated only for new data, updated data will not get updated to the DOM.

I have a set of nested json data:

But I am having trouble successfully placing the dots on top the the grouped bar chart. I did manage to add a line with the species data, but I can't add the dots using the same logic.

There error I'm getting from the circle-related code is: d3.min.js:1 Error: attribute cx: Expected length, "NaN".
I think the nested data and the ordinal scale for the bar chart is throwing me off a bit, so it could be that I am not understanding fulling data access in these cases.

If you need the dots on every bar chart, then the data() callback must return a list of bars not a single item. Did you try replacing it with:

Doing this will use the existing data object (with 5 bar groups), but render a dot for each bar.

I have a bar chart that updates based on the results selected in a drop-down menu. When I change the selcetion, I get negaitve "y" values. It seems that my domain does not get updated with the new data. When I hard code the domain, my "y" are what I expect them to be. Anyone knows why ? Firgured out what was my problem. I hadn't defined the format of the values. The max function was returning the maximum number out of character values (9). I added the following piece of code prior to the domain function and everything now works fines.

I've got an update button working that loads new .csv data into a D3.s stacked bar chart. My problem is that on update it seems to be using both data sets instead of just the new one. I think this is related to some confusion I have about update and selectAll, but I haven't been able to figure out how to replace instead of append. Here's my current code:

UPDATE: I changed the functionUpdateData() code to what I have currently because I realized it had some junk in there. New code has working transitions for x and y axis labels, but still the same problem described above with the actual bars.
It is because you are not using update and exiting joins in the update function (read this article carefully http://bost.ocks.org/mike/join/). As far I understand, you want to update the existing csv data with the new one, for that you need to update the current set of data. I'll give you an example with a simpler code:

I have successfully managed to create a grouped bar chart that displays the various performance stats for soccer players over the course of one season. This data is all loaded from a csv file. I would now like to dynamically change that data whereby when a button is pressed, a new csv file is loaded with the stats corresponding to the next soccer season. I've tried to do this on my own but everytime I try reload the data, the old data as well as the old axis's remain present and the enw data loads ontop of these. It all ends up looking messy. So how do I have the old bars and axises updated in line with the new data? Here is my code:
