I am getting an array of objects using JSON and then my goal is to let the user search for a specific login. For this I want them to be able to type a letter and check each object login, if the letter is contained I want to display it.
In order to achieve this I worked on the following code:
var i;
var out="";
var exp=/d/g;
var result = " ";
for(i=0;i<users.length;i++){
result= exp.test(users[i].login);
if(result){
out+= users[i].login+ " ";
}
}
It works fine if I write the regex (in this case d) but once I try putting a variable inside the regex it wont work. How do I create a regex that will take the users input and work with the test function to perform the same task? Or idk if there is a better/more elegant solution for this. I know there are different regex questions already but I didn't find one that helped me.
Appreciate the help!
You're testing a literal string - that string is passed in by the user but it's still literal, not a regex.
So you should try:
if( users[i].login.indexOf(userInput) > -1)
This will pass if the given input is in the searched string.

I'm trying to write a function that validates number depending on the country. With each country, using intl-input, I obtain different class. Depending on that class inside the PrestaShop checkout module I am trying to implement the different amount of characters in phone input.
Result is something like this:
function validatePhoneNumber(s)
{
if ($('div').hasClass("opt216")) {
var reg = /^\+(?:[0-9] ?){10}$/;
}else {
var reg = /^\+(?:[0-9] ?){10,14}$/;
}
return reg.test(s);
}
What I have in this is every country has the same amount of characters (10) and if the statement doesn't seem to work. So, I thinking, is making this regex variable and changing it on if statement actually allowed?
Thanks everyone, I figured out what was wrong - i had few opt216 classes in document, so i went another way with attribute selection, something like that
if ($('#iti-item-216').attr('aria-selected') == 'true')
I am trying to compare the variable using javascipt:
response value: ""test#gmail.com""
response value i am getting it from server.
var str1="test#gmail.com"
var str2 =response;
if(str1===str2)
{
//
}
However not getting the proper result.
any idea on how to compare them ?
There are a few ways to achieve your goal:
1) You can remove all " from the response when doing your equality check:
if(str1===str2.replace(/['"]+/g, ''))
{
//
}
2) Change your server code to not include ". Doing so, would mean that your Javascript will not need to change.
3) Last option, add " to your str1:
var str1='"test#gmail.com"'
var str2 =response;
if(str1===str2)
{
//
}
Obviously I don't know enough about your requirements to tell you which one you should do, but my suggestion would be choice #2 because I think it's strange to return an email address wrapped in quotes, otherwise I would recommend #1.
You are trying to compare '""test#gmail.com""' with 'test#gmail.com'. They would never be equal.
Actually ""test#gmail.com"" is not a valid string. It might have been represented as '""test#gmail.com""' and "test#gmail.com" is a valid string (Same as 'test#gmail.com').
Im trying to create a regex for the following string:
"SEARCHCONTENT STTYPE_YU KAT_ALL CAMP_ALL STTYPE_LAVERE CAMP_1 KAT_71 KAT_79 KAT_81 "
Im creating the regex from a form with checkboxes so the user is able to filter the different values.
Lets say the user have checked 3 checkboxes with the values: KAT_ALL, KAT_71 & KAT_81
I then want to check those values against the string. I guess the regex im looking for is kind of like this: "KAT_ALL+AND/OR+KAT_71+AND/OR+KAT_81". How do I write this in JavaScript-regex format?
EDIT:
I got my code working after reading #yarons comment below. Now I have another case: I want to check if the string contains SSTYPE_YU AND (KAT_71 OR KAT_81).
I can't get the following regex to work, any ideas on why? (?=SSTYPE_YU)(?=KAT_71|KAT_81)
Basically, it is as simple as you wrote it yourself in the comments above.
If you want to create the Regex dynamically, you can first create a string, then create a regex out of that string, and then test.
For example:
var expressions = ["KAT_ALL", "KAT_71", "KAT_81"];
var regexStr = expressions.join('|');
var regex = new RegExp(regexStr);
regex.test(yourString); //returns true or false
You are close with (?=SSTYPE_YU)(?=KAT_71|KAT_81), use this one:
^(?=.*SSTYPE_YU)(?=.*(?:KAT_71|KAT_81))
I'm trying to do something very simple, but I can't get to work the way I intend. I'm sure it's doing exactly what I'm asking it to do, but I'm failing to understand the syntax.
Part 1:
In the following example, I want to extract the part of the string between geotech and Input.
x = "geotechCITYInput"
x.match(/^geotech(.*)(?:Input|List)$/)
The result:
["geotechCITYInput", "CITY"]
I've been writing regex for many years in perl/python and even javascript, but I've never seen the ?: syntax, which, I think, is what I'm supposed to use here.
Part 2:
The higher level problem I'm trying to solve is more complicated. I have a form with many elements defined as either geotechXXXXInput or geotechXXXXList. I want to create an array of XXXX values, but only if the name ends with Input.
Example form definition:
obj0.name = "geotechCITYInput"
obj1.name = "geotechCITYList"
obj2.name = "geotechSTATEInput"
obj3.name = "geotechSTATEList"
I ultimately want an array like this:
["CITY","STATE"]
I can iterate over the form objects easily with an API call, but I can't figure out how to write the regex to match the ones I want. This is what I have right now, but it doesn't work.
geotechForm.forEachItem(function(name) {
if(name.match(/Input$/)
inputFieldNames.push( name.match(/^geotech(.*)Input$/) );
});
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
You were missing the Input and List suffix in your regex. This will match if the name starts with geotech and ends with either Input or List and it will return an array with the text in the middle as the second item in the array.
geotechForm.forEachItem(function (name) {
var match = name.match(/^geotech(.*)(Input|List)$/);
if (match) {
inputFieldNames.push(match[1]);
}
});
I am trying to write something that would look at tweets and pull up info about stocks being mentioned in the tweet. People use $ to reference stock symbols on twitter but I cant escape the $.
I also dont want to match any price mention or anything like that so basically match $AAPL and not $1500
I was thinking it would be something like this
\b\$[a-zA-Z].*\b
if there are multiple matches id like to loop through them somehow so something like
while ((tweet = reg.exec(sym_pat)) !== null) {
//replace text with stock data.
}
This expression gives me an unexpected illegal token error
var symbol_pat = new RegExp(\b\$[a-z]*);
Thanks for the help if you want to see the next issue I ran into
Javascript AJAX scope inside of $.each Scope
Okay, you've stated that you want to replace the matches with their actual stock values. So, you need to get all of the matching elements (stock ticker names) and then for each match you're going to replace the it with the stock value.
The answer will "read" very similarly to that sentence.
Assume there's a tweet variable that is the contents of a particular tweet you're going to work on:
tweet.match(/\b\$[A-Za-z]+\b/g).forEach(function(match) {
// match looks like '$AAPL'
var tickerValue = lookUpTickerValue(match);
tweet.replace(match, tickerValue);
});
This is assuming you have some logic somewhere that will grab the ticker value for the given stock name and then replace it (it should probably return the original value if it can't find a match, so you don't mangle lovely tweets like "Barbara Streisand is $ATAN").
var symbol_pat = new RegExp('\\b\\$[a-z]+\\b','gi');
// or
var symbol_pat = /\b\$[a-z]+\b/gi;
Also, for some reason JS can not calculate the beginning of a word by \b, it just catches the one at the end.
EDIT: If you're replacing the stock symbols you can use the basic replace method by a function and replace that data with predefined values:
var symbol_pat = /(^|\s)(\$[a-z]+\b)/gi;
var stocks = {AAPL:1,ETC:2}
var str = '$aapl ssd $a a$s$etc $etc';
console.log(str);
str = str.replace(symbol_pat, function() {
var stk = arguments[2].substr(1).toUpperCase();
// assuming you want to replace $etc as well as $ETC by using
// the .toUpperCase() method
if (!stocks[stk]) return arguments[0];
return arguments[0].replace(arguments[2],stocks[stk]);
});
console.log(str);
