I just upgraded to jQuery 1.12 from an older version. I'm going through the code, trying to resolve breaking changes.
One such change is occurring in the following code:

This code fails because $get('0') returns null.
But I really don't understand what this is supposed to be doing. I don't see $get() defined anywhere. I can see from looking at the code behind that the '0' argument represents a contact ID, but I can't see what the code is supposed to be doing.
$get is a shortcut function for Sys.UI.DomElement.getElementById
The $get method provides a shortcut to the getElementById method of the Sys.UI.DomElement class.

I am working on a web application to show some data graphically using spring framework. In my code I am trying to call a javascript method from href tag of html. Problem is i can't pass argument to that method.
my html snippet is as below where i call the method.
and javascript method as follow

Note that limitData.operatorCode is a thymeleaf variable and it has value 'S47648' that i want to pass as argument to the method. But when press on that href item i am getting some error saying

I have tried to include a FireBreath plugin object in an AngularJS view, however when I try to render the view I get this error:
TypeError: Cannot read property 'nodeName' of undefined
I am able to successfully include the object in the view with $compile like this:
$("body").append($compile('<object id="plugin" type="application/x-firebreathplugin" width="0" height="0></object>')($scope));
However, after including the object like this I cannot get my plugin to fire an event in the JS.
Doing something like this:
plugin = document.getElementById('plugin');
console.log(plugin);
Returns
TypeError
In the Chrome console. But I can still do:
plugin.callFunction();
And have a FireBreath method execute. The issue is when I try to get an event to fire in the JS. No matter what I try, I cannot get the event to fire. So this code will never execute:

Does anybody know if it has something to do with accessing the object after calling $compile? I noticed that in regular HTML (before using AngularJS) logging the plugin in the console returns this :

So I am thinking that whatever I am getting with document.getElementById after using $compile is not the same.
What would be easier is is if I could just include the <object> tag in the view.html file and have it display in <body class='ng-view'> but I get the top TypeError, so if anyone has any ideas for that, that would be preferred.

This will have to work for now until someone can figure out how to attach an event to the plugin object after $compile.
I ran into the same problem and was able to make the problem go away by creating a read-only nodeName property in my plugin object. I asked about this in a firebreath forum post and taxilian suggested adding this to JSAPIAuto.cpp, which also worked, so I submitted a pull request with the change.
I once spent about 6 hours trying to make FireBreath plugins work with jquery; it was really educational, but ultimately I determined that it wasn't worth the work.
Long story short is that it's not worth it; particularly since even if you could make it work, it would break on IE9 where FireBreath doesn't support addEventListener (IE never gives it the even info, so it's a little hard to support) and you would need to use attachEvent anyway.
So I had code that was working properly on my site:
$("#usr").load("somepage.php",{var1:var1,var2:var2});
But ever since I changed some code in the navigation bar, jQuery has been acting really strangely. The first major problem was that this line:
var w = $(window).width();
returns the error: object [global] has no method "width()"
And that didn't seem to matter, as all elements on the page functioned with that error (as if it was still being executed, because elements were still being placed)...but then I came to the page that implemented the first line of code, and I ran into the following error:
Cannot call method "load()" of null
Sure enough, I checked the console, and $("#usr") returns null, but I can see the HTML line in the page with the inline id of usr.
This causes a problem because I need to load data from that page for the page to function properly. But it gets even stranger. I thought I would just try a plain post request and take the data and use document.getElementById("usr").innerHTML = ... as a substitute, but I get the following error from this line:

That sounds a lot like you're loading Prototype or MooTools or something as well as jQuery, and so Prototype/MooTools/whatever is taking over the $ symbol.
If that's what's going on, and you need the other library, you can use jQuery.noConflict(). Then you either use the symbol jQuery instead of $ for your jQuery stuff, or you put all of your jQuery code into a function that you pass into jQuery.noConflict and accept $ as an argument, like so:
// Out here, $ !== jQuery
jQuery.noConflict(function($) {
// In here, $ === jQuery
});
Or you can just do it yourself:
// Out here, $ !== jQuery
jQuery.noConflict();
(function($) {
// In here, $ === jQuery
})(jQuery);
ready also passes the jQuery object into the function, if you're already using ready.
I'm trying to test a page using CasperJS, in particular I want to poke the data model a bunch. Let's say I've got a basic function called taxes, and I want to ensure that it uses the right tax rate. So I'd like something like:
this.test.assert(taxes(100, 'Ontario') === 15, "Check ontario tax rate");
Rather than filling out a form and seeing what it prints. That taxes method exists in the global scope, so I'm able to execute it quite easily from anywhere (including from the console in firebug or Chrome). But it's not in the right scope for that to work inside CasperJS (I think? I'm getting ReferenceError: Can't find variable: taxes.
It seems like I'm missing something simple.

Use assertEvalEquals() method.
If you're calling the method via a jQuery-style reference, make sure to explicitly include the library, lest you'll get the ReferenceError:

If you're calling it implicitly in the global scope (i.e., straight javascript, rather than, for example, $('taxes')), you might have to explicitly prepend the window or document namespace to the reference:
document.querySelector('#taxes').value = taxes_text;
I recently transferred a site to a new host. Reloaded everything, and the javascript that worked fine before is breaking at an element it can't find. $('#emailForm') is not defined.
Now, the #emailform isn't on the page, but it wasn't before either, and JS used to skip this and it would just work. Not sure why this is happening. Any clues

jQuery will return an empty jQuery object from $('#emailForm') if there isn't an element with the id='emailForm'.
One of the following is likely true:
You forgot to include jQuery - therefore $ is undefined.
There is another library included that uses $ - in which case you can wrap your code in a quick closure to rename jQuery to $

You could console.log(window.$,window.jQuery); in firebug to check for both of these problems.
You have mootools-1.2.2-core-yc.js installed as well, and it is conflicting with jQuery.

I'm not sure why it would be skipped before, but to avoid the error, wrap the statement(s) that reference $('#emailForm') in an if statement that checks to see if it is present:
