How to use fadeIn with css property change jquery - javascript

HTML :
<input id ="input"/>
<div id="box"></div>
CSS :
#box{
width: 100px;
height: 100px;
}
JS :
$('#input').on('focus',function(){
$("#box").css('background', 'linear-gradient(red, transparent)')
})
However I want it to fade in so I tried this:
$("#box").css('background', 'linear-gradient(red, transparent)').fadeIn(1500);
And also this
$('#input').on('focus',function(){
$("#box").fadeIn(1500, function(){
$("#box").css('background', 'linear-gradient(red, transparent)');
});
})
But both don't work. Here's a fiddle
Any ideas?

Try to set display property as none initially,
JS:
$('#input').on('focus',function(){
$("#box").css('background', 'linear-gradient(red, transparent)').fadeIn(1500);
});
CSS:
#box{
width: 100px;
height: 100px;
display:none;
}
Technically, fadeIn() will not animate(fade in) an element which is already visible. Also we should not confuse display property with visible property. Even if visible property is set with hidden fadeIn will not work. display : none is the valid one for .fadeIn()
DEMO

The fadeIn() works on hidden elements so you could hide your box using hide() then fadein will works :
$('#input').on('focus',function(){
$("#box").hide().css('background', 'linear-gradient(red, transparent)').fadeIn(1500);
})
Hope this helps.

Toggling HTML visibility using CSS and jQuery

Ok so I have a div that contains a canvas and a span which contains an image. I want it such that if the user hovers over or focuses on the div that the image inside of the span will appear. The image wil be invisible otherwise.
Long story short I want to have a canvas with a red 'X' on the corner that is only visible when the canvas is active
$('image-canvas').hover(function() {
$('delete-image').addClass('active');
}, function() {
$('delete-image').removeClass('active');
})
.delete-image {
position: absolute;
top: 0px;
right: 0px;
}
.delete-image>img {
width: 32px;
visibility: hidden;
}
.delete-image.active>img {
width: 32px;
visibility: visible;
}
<script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/2.1.1/jquery.min.js"></script>
<div class="canvas-container" tabindex="1">
<canvas id="imageCanvas"></canvas>
<span class="delete-image">
<img src="file:///E:/Apps/Emoji-App/emojis/icons/if_erase_delete_remove_wipe_out_181387.png"/>
</span>
</div>
The hover event fires just fine but the image refuses to toggle visibility. Any help?
When you use a class within your selector, write it like this:
$('.myDiv')
When you use an ID within your selector, write it like this:
$('#myDiv')
For further informations, check out jQuery's learning center website.
Seems like you have misspelled or have not specified the jQuery selector type (class . or id #). Please try this:
$('#imageCanvas').hover(function () {
$('.delete-image').addClass('active');
}, function () {
$('.delete-image').removeClass('active');
})
See here .
$("#control").mouseover(function(){
$('#img').show();
});
$("#control").mouseout(function(){
$('#img').hide();
});
#img{
display:none;
}
#control{
margin-bottom:10px;
padding:5px;
background-color:#eee;
}
<script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/2.1.1/jquery.min.js"></script>
<div id='control'>Show/Hide</div>
<img src='https://cdn.sstatic.net/Sites/stackoverflow/img/404.svg' id='img'>
The question is not well-phrased, so I ain't sure I totally understood what you wanted.
When you try to select by class, don't forget the dot '.'
$('image-canvas').hover(function () {
$('.delete-image').addClass('active');
}, function () {
$('.delete-image').removeClass('active');
})
When using functions 'addClass', 'removeClass', 'toggleClass', etc. - you don't use the '.' sign because it is a function that refers only to classes. On the other hand, when using jQuery selector $(' ') or vanilla querySelector(' '), you should declare what kind of attribute you are selecting by, those will be '#' for ID, '.' for Class, and if you want to select by anything else you can use $('*[anyattribute=anyvalue]'), in your clase it could be $('span[class=delete-image]').
Good luck

click to change background toggle

When I click on it changes background. It works fine. But what if I want to click on it again to restore the original background? I have this code:
jQuery(document).ready(function($) {
$(".select").on("click", function () {
$(this).css("background-image", "url(images/selected.png)");
});
});
Here is jsfiddle EXAMPLE
Basically when I click on the div it changes the background, which is fine. But I want to have ability to click on it again to restore the original background.
It will be an alternative solution for tick box, but just for demo purposes.
Thanks
JS
replace
$(this).css("background-image", "url(images/selected.png)");
with
$(this).toggleClass("active");
Style
#multiselect .active {
background-image: url('...');
}
Fiddle http://jsfiddle.net/09xgrhxo/4/
Instead of using .css() to change the background-image I would add a class in your CSS and use .toggleClass().
Also be aware that simply adding a class will not be specific enough because your css is using:
#multiselect .select
you're going to have to target the class you add as a child of #multiselect:
#multiselect .change
CSS
#multiselect .change{
background-image: url(http://t2.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSZ51HqKXkejWAFcSBrodHd5eUN2QaIJro0jhN1YpmljSdQ5dj2)
}
JS
$(".select").on("click", function () {
$(this).toggleClass("change");
});
FIDDLE
You could use data-* attribute.
$('.select').attr('data-img', $('.select').css('background-image'));
$(".select").on("click", function() {
$(this).css("background-image", ($(this).css('background-image') == $(this).data('img')) ? "url(http://t2.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSZ51HqKXkejWAFcSBrodHd5eUN2QaIJro0jhN1YpmljSdQ5dj2)" : $(this).data('img'));
});
#multiselect .select {
background: url(http://t0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQF_ErOlc78eOGZaEWb-dwPkrv2uyAoKx0Pbn3-e0tAZoUDSQRCsA) center;
width: 250px;
height: 100px;
margin-bottom: 20px;
}
<script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.11.1/jquery.min.js"></script>
<div id="multiselect">
<div class="select">Option1</div>
<div class="select">Option2</div>
<div class="select">Option3</div>
</div>
Instead of writing background-img url in javascrpt, I would suggest to create two classes having same properties but different background-img url which you want to toggle. so here we will be toggling class (ultimately background-img) in javascript.

div content doesn't animate

Hello i am using jquery to animate a box on the left to slide right to show the facebook link , the box slides fine but the text inside seems not to be affected by the jquery function , my code is :
JQUERY
$(document).ready(function () {
$("#social").mouseenter(function () {
$("#social").animate({
width: 50
});
});
$("#social").mouseleave(function () {
$("#social").animate({
width: 20
});
});
});
HTML
<div id="social">test</div>
The problem is whith the a href , it doesnt animate with the div , i tried to give the a href an id , still didnt work
Try with e.preventdefault()
$("#social").mouseenter(function () {
e.preventdefault();
$("#social").animate({
width: 50
});
});
You need to make sure that your div has a specified width for it to animate, for example:
#social {
width: 20px;
}
Fiddle Demo
Not sure if this is what you want, but if you want the <a> to expand along with the <div>, just add a display: inline-block; and width: 100%; in your css:
#social a {
display: inline-block;
width: 100%;
}
Fiddle demo
Thank you guys i found the solution , i need to change the marginLeft so that it looks like the whole thing box with link was a bit hidden then shows
$(document).ready(function(){
$("#social").mouseenter(function(){
$("#social").animate({width:80});
$("#social").animate({marginLeft:'0px'});
});
$("#social").mouseleave(function(){
$("#social").animate({width:40});
$("#social").animate({marginLeft:'-10px'});
});
});

Changing DIV Background Image with JavaScript Not Working

I'm trying to change a div background image on hover, I want to do this with JaveScript so that it works cross browser without any issues. The current code I have is:
<div class="staff" style="background-image: url(/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/IMG_1828- 300x237.png);" onmouseover="this.style.background=url(wp-content/uploads/2013/08/IMG_1836-v2-300x237.png);" onmouseout="this.style.background=url(wp-content/uploads/2013/08/IMG_1828-300x237.png);">
</div>
CSS:
.staff{
width: 300px;
height: 237px;
}
Can anybody see what is causing the problem?
<style>
.staff{
width: 300px;
height: 237px;
background-image: url(/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/IMG_1828- 300x237.png);
}
.staff:hover {
background-image: url(wp-content/uploads/2013/08/IMG_1836-v2-300x237.png);
}
</style>
<div class="staff"></div>
You can use simple css too.. and it will work on all browsers
.staff { background: url("url/img.png")}
.staff:hover { background: url("url/hoverimg.png")}
<div class="staff"></div>
Better use CSS than inline CSS and javascript to achieve the effect.
If you still want to do it inline, here is a example.
jsfiddle
onmouseover="javascript: this.style.backgroundImage = 'url(\'image_url\')'";
you can use css like this:
.staff{
width: 300px;
height: 237px;
background-image: url("/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/IMG_1828- 300x237.png");
}
.staff:hover{
background-image: url("wp-content/uploads/2013/08/IMG_1836-v2-300x237.png");
}
or javascript like:
onmouseover="javascript: this.style.backgroundImage = 'url(\'image_url\')'";
WORKING DEMO
CHANGE I MADE
onmouseover="this.style.background='url()';"
You have to enclose the url in single qoutes...
I would also suggest you use CSS rather than JS to do this. But since you asked how to do it in JS, this is your answer
Most browser should support :hover in css, so there is no need to use JavaScript for this (relevant fiddle here):
.staff{
width: 300px;
height: 237px;
background-image: url("/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/IMG_1828- 300x237.png");
}
.staff:hover{
background-image: url("wp-content/uploads/2013/08/IMG_1836-v2-300x237.png");
}
If you really want to use JavaScript, than you have to wrap url(...) in quotes like so:
<div class="staff"
style="background-image: url(/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/IMG_1828- 300x237.png);"
onmouseover="this.style.background='url(wp-content/uploads/2013/08/IMG_1836-v2-300x237.png)';"
onmouseout="this.style.background='url(wp-content/uploads/2013/08/IMG_1828-300x237.png);'">
</div>
I think you can use this script :
$('.staff').mouseover(function() {
$(this).attr('style',"background:grey;");
})
$('.staff').mouseout(function() {
$(this).attr('style',"background:white;");
})
Change the color to the image path.
$(document).ready(function(){
var staff = $(".staff"); //Avoid repeated traverse
$("img").hover(function(){
staff.css("background",'url(' + $(this).attr('src') + ')');
//Assuming you want to set current image as background image
});
$( "img" ).mouseout(function(){
staff.css("background","none");
});
});
Okay this works for me so when you hover over an image the background of the set div is changed. So when ever you hover over an image .staff background is changed.
I believe that is what you want?

Trying to fade and slide text out of initials on mouse over with jQuery

I'm trying to create an effect with jQuery where on mouse over of my initials on the page in the header, the div they are in expands (using jQuery animate) and the text of my full name fades in from each initial.
I have tried a variety of things but am not sure what is the best way to do this. I'm a bit stuck. I'm currently trying to get it going by having the initials of my name "OW" in two separate divs and then the remainder of my name to make up "wen" and "illiams" in between those initals. Like so:
<div class="initialF inlinediv">O</div>
<div class="fullF inlinediv">wen</div>
<div class="initialL inlinediv">W</div>
<div class="fullL inlinediv">illiams</div>
I thought it would work to use jQuery slideLeft and .fadeIn to get the text to slide in from the left as well as fading to look like the text is emerging from the initials but the animations was jumpy and would go onto a second line while the div was still expanding. I am using the below jQuery to detect the mouseIn/Out events:
<script>
$(".brand").mouseenter(function() {
$('.brand').animate({width: '160px'});
$('.fullF').fadeIn("slow");
});
$(".brand").mouseout(function() {
$('.brand').animate({width: '36px'});
$('.fullF').fadeOut("slow");
});
</script>
The alternatives I have tried were using jquery.lettering.js to help with it but there seemed to be some issues with that. Any suggestions to push me in the right direction would be useful and my site with a partially working example is here:
http://192.241.203.146/
Here's one using css transitions rather than jquery animate: http://jsfiddle.net/S58Se/2/
<div class='branding'>
<span class='initial'>O</span><span class='hidden nameFull wen'>wen</span>
<span class='initial'>W</span><span class='hidden nameFull illiams'>illiams</span>
</div>
span {
display: inline-block;
overflow: hidden;
transition: all 1s;
-moz-transition: all 1s;
-webkit-transition: all 1s;
}
.wen { width: 36px; }
.illiams { width: 160px; }
span.hidden {
width: 0px;
opacity: 0;
}
$('.branding').hover(
function() { $('.nameFull').removeClass('hidden'); },
function() { $('.nameFull').addClass('hidden'); }
);
Or you can do away with the javascript altogether with this: http://jsfiddle.net/S58Se/3/
remove the js and add these css statements:
.branding:hover .wen {
width: 36px;
opacity: 1;
}
.branding:hover .illiams {
width: 160px;
opacity: 1;
}
... just because I think it's neat.
A good way to go about this is to just expand the use of your call to the animation method by adding another property to the object you are passing in. So instead of calling an extra method (fadeIn) you just handle it all in one fell swoop:
$('.brand').on({
'mouseenter' : function () {
$('.nameFull').stop().animate({
'width' : '200px',
'opacity' : '1'
}, 500);
},
'mouseleave' : function () {
$('.nameFull').stop().animate({
'width' : '0',
'opacity' : '0'
}, 500);
}
});
You'll notice I'm also using 'on' instead of the 'hover' or 'mouseenter' and 'mouseleave' methods. In most recent versions of jQuery those methods just reference 'on', so it's better to just cut out the middle man and do it all in one place.
I'm not sure if this exactly fits your design, but I made a Codepen to demonstrate the code in action: http://codepen.io/Tristan-zimmerman/pen/lnDGh
Style the hidden divs position:absolute, and when show them:
'show' them first, to set them visible
then position them (next to your 'launching' div), using jQuery.position();
set the animation going.
Essentially you want them 'absolute' to avoid them thunking in/out & changing your existing flow. position() must be called after making the element visible, and then you should have appropriate starting conditions to kick off your animation.
Or you could try using <span>' for the incoming text and/or displaying as inline-block, which may help avoid the "incoming" kicking things down a line. HTH.
I think what you are looking for is something like this: JSFiddle
html:
<div class="brand">
<div>O<span class="full">wen </span>W<span class="full">illiams</span></div>
</div>
jq:
$('.brand').hover(function(){
$(this).stop().animate({width: '160px'},'slow',function(){
$(this).children('div').children('.full').stop().fadeIn('slow');
});
},function(){
$(this).children('div').children('.full').stop().fadeOut('slow',function(){
$(this).parent().parent().stop().animate({width: '36px'},'slow');
});
});
css:
.full{
display: none;
}
note: there is a simple bug that happens in a specific case and I'm working on it.
regards,
