vim, right way to indent css and js inside html - javascript

Couldn't find proper solution in old questions, so
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html lang="en">
<head>
<meta charset="UTF-8">
<title></title>
<link rel="stylesheet" href="https://maxcdn.bootstrapcdn.com/bootstrap/3.3.6/css/bootstrap.min.css">
<style type="text/css">
body, input{
background-color:red;
}
</style>
<script>
function test() {
return false
}
</script>
</head>
<body>
<div></div>
</body>
</html>
everything except code inside <style> and <script> tags indented ok, how can I fix it?

As it turns out: That this has been done on purpose! Even my current Vim 8.1 installation contains an indent/html.vim-file which has such zero-indentation as its default setting.
That is however configurable via vimrc with:
let g:html_indent_script1 = "inc"
let g:html_indent_style1 = "inc"
...and -shame on us- is also mentioned in :help html-indent

I use othree/html5.vim plugin which supports css/javascript inside html. It works although this isn't probably the simplest solution.
Your code is indented like this:
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html lang="en">
<head>
<meta charset="UTF-8">
<title></title>
<link rel="stylesheet" href="https://maxcdn.bootstrapcdn.com/bootstrap/3.3.6/css/bootstrap.min.css">
<style type="text/css">
body, input{
background-color:red;
}
</style>
<script>
function test() {
return false
}
</script>
</head>
<body>
<div></div>
</body>
</html>

Implementation of TogetherJS is not working

I am trying to make a simple shareable text editor with Mozilla's TogetherJS, but it does not seem to work. Based on their instructions, I added the library/script in the head and calling the JS from the button.
https://togetherjs.com/
In the Head tag:
<script src="https://togetherjs.com/togetherjs-min.js"></script>
In the body:
<button onclick="TogetherJS(this); return false;">Start TogetherJS</button>
Full code:
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html lang="en">
<head>
<title>Test JS</title>
</head>
<body>
<button onclick="TogetherJS(this); return false;">Start TogetherJS</button>
<div>
<textarea style="border:1px solid red; height:300px; width: 500px; font-size: 16px;">
</textarea>
</div>
<script src="https://togetherjs.com/togetherjs-min.js"></script>
</body>
</html>
It seems to super-simple, yet for some reason, it does not seem to work!
Could you please check now wrap your script in the body i.e.
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html lang="en">
<head>
<title>Test JS</title>
</head>
<body>
<button onclick="TogetherJS(this); return false;">Start TogetherJS</button>
<script src="https://togetherjs.com/togetherjs-min.js"></script>
</body>
</html>

Change meta tag content dynamically through javascript

I want to change the meta tag content i.e. refresh rate and url dynamically using javascript. Using a button to enable javascript function. Tried 3 alternatives but not working. Please help.
Thanks,Amresh
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<head>
<meta HTTP-EQUIV="refresh" name="description" id="mymetatag"
content="5;URL=http://localhost:6985/ChartJSDemo/Is_Mainpage.html">
<meta charset="ISO-8859-1">
<title>Processing Details</title>
<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="css/MF_job_failTable.css">
</head>
<body>
<button onclick="myFunction()">Click me</button>
<script>
function myFunction() {
<!--document.querySelector('meta[name="description"]').setAttribute("content","5;URL=http://google.co.in");-->
<!--document.getElementById("mymetatag").setAttribute("content", "5;URL=http://google.co.in");-->
var m = document.createElement('meta');
m.name = 'description';
m.id = 'mymetatag';
m.content = '5;URL=http://google.co.in';
m.HTTP-EQUIV= 'refresh';
document.head.appendChild(m);
}
</script>
This works for me.
The issue could have been that you tried a first code which did not work and you commented the code with HTML comments <!-- [...] -->instead of Javascript comments: // [...] or /** [...] */.
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<head>
<meta HTTP-EQUIV="refresh" name="description" id="mymetatag" content="5;URL=http://localhost:6985/ChartJSDemo/Is_Mainpage.html">
<meta charset="ISO-8859-1">
<title>Processing Details</title>
<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="css/MF_job_failTable.css">
</head>
<body>
<button onclick="myFunction()">Click me</button>
<script>
function myFunction() {
document.getElementById("mymetatag").setAttribute("content", "5;URL=http://google.co.in");
}
</script>
</body>
</html>
I looks like you misuse the functionality of metatags, JS doesn't save the state between requests. And, BTW, you can do reload/redirect using the javascript itself.

Can someone point out my syntax error?

I believe that I have a syntax error somewhere in my script, could someone point it out?
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<head>
<meta charset="utf-8">
<title>Challenge: Daisy chain</title>
</head>
<body>
<script src='https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/2.1.4/jquery.min.js'></script>
<script>
for (i=0;i<12;i++)
{
$('<img>')
.attr('src', 'https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/2/29/English_Daisy_(Bellis_Perennis).jpg')
.attr('width','100')
.attr('alt', 'Daisy chain')
.appendTo(document.body);
}
</script>
</body>
</html>
Not sure what syntac error you are seeing at your side.. But I would have made some changes
Move the script inside head
add the code inside a function that will be called on page load
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<head>
<meta charset="utf-8">
<title>Challenge: Daisy chain</title>
<script src='https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/2.1.4/jquery.min.js'></script>
<script>
$(function() {
for (i=0;i<12;i++)
{
$('<img>')
.attr('src', 'https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/2/29/English_Daisy_(Bellis_Perennis).jpg')
.attr('width','100')
.attr('alt', 'Daisy chain')
.appendTo(document.body);
}
});
</script>
</head>
<body>
</body>
</html>

Javascript generated HTML not working

The console doesn't give any error, and the window displays nothing. What is wrong with it?
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html lang="en">
<head>
<meta charset="utf-8">
<title>Home</title>
<script type="text/javascript">
function stuffify(){
for(var a=6;a<=0;a--){
document.getElementById("stuff").innerHTML+="<h"+a+">stuff</h"+a+"></br>";
}
}
</script>
</head>
<body>
<div id="stuff" onload="stuffify()"></div>
</body>
</html>
The onload function will work when on the body tag of your document.
Also, the condition of your for loop is incorrect, it should be:
for(var a=6; a >= 0; a--)
try this
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html lang="en">
<head>
<meta charset="utf-8">
<title>Home</title>
<script type="text/javascript">
function stuffify(){
for(var a=6;a<=0;a--){
document.getElementById("stuff").innerHTML+="<h"+a+">stuff</h"+a+"></br>";
}
}
</script>
</head>
<body onload="stuffify();">
<div id="stuff" ></div>
</body>
</html>
onload is supported by following tags:
<body>, <frame>, <frameset>, <iframe>, <img>, <input type="image">, <link>, <script>, <style>
This explains why stuffify is not triggered after your div is loaded.
So, you can bind the onload function to body instead of div, or insert script after div, like this:
<div id="stuff" ></div>
<script type="text/javascript">
stuffify();
</script>

jQuery works in jsfiddle, but not in html file?

I checked many times, but I have no idea why the jQuery wont work. It works in jsfiddle!
html:
<!doctype html>
<html>
<head>
<meta charset="utf-8">
<title>Josue Espinosa</title>
<link href="style.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css">
<script src="animate.js"></script>
<script src="http://code.jquery.com/jquery-latest.min.js"
type="text/javascript"></script>
</head>
<body>
<div id="menu">
</div>
</body>
</html>
css:
#menu{
width:15px;
height:200px;
background:red;
}
jquery:
$('#menu').hover(function(){
$("#menu").stop().animate({width : "300px"});
});
It seems like problem lies here:
<script src="animate.js"></script>
<script src="http://code.jquery.com/jquery-latest.min.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
Your animate.js goes before jquery loads
You need to either wrap your jquery code in $(function () {}) or (preferred) move the code to just before </body>.
Since the other answers didn't seem to work out for you, I'm going to take a stab at a suggestion.
I'm guessing that you're initializing your JavaScript in a location where the element you're adding the event listener to isn't available yet. Here is a solution to this problem.
<!doctype html>
<html>
<head>
<meta charset="utf-8">
<title>Josue Espinosa</title>
<link href="style.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css">
<script src="http://code.jquery.com/jquery-latest.min.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
<script src="animate.js"></script>
</head>
<body>
<div id="menu">
</div>
<script type="text/javascript">
$('#menu').hover(function () {
$("#menu").stop().animate({ width: "300px" });
});
</script>
</body>
</html>
In this example, the JavaScript is immediately below the element you're adding the listener to, so it is guaranteed to be available in the DOM.
Alternatively, you can wrap your JS around an event to fire after the document is ready. Here is an example:
<!doctype html>
<html>
<head>
<meta charset="utf-8">
<title>Josue Espinosa</title>
<link href="style.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css">
<script src="http://code.jquery.com/jquery-latest.min.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
<script src="animate.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript">
$(document).ready(function () {
$('#menu').hover(function () {
$("#menu").stop().animate({ width: "300px" });
});
});
</script>
</head>
<body>
<div id="menu">
</div>
</body>
</html>
It is also important to note the sequence of the JavaScript elements.
