Maybe I am so noob with jQuery but cant reach my objective. I need to add the attribute target="_blank to all the links inside certain divs. But anything I do works.
I have checked for jquery loaded with:
if(wp_script_is('jquery')==false) {
wp_enqueue_script("jquery");
}
Using the the following code nothing happens:
jQuery("#adagal").html("<p>asdf*</p>");
The #adagal element remains with previous content. I have checked in the source if my javascript file was correctly added, and it is.
<script type='text/javascript' src='http://localhost/wordpress/wp-content/plugins/AdManagerAdagal/js/ads/show_ad.js?ver=4.3.1'></script>
So, what is the problem¿?
Use that:
jQuery(document).ready(function($)
{
$(".your_class a").attr("target", "_blank");
});
Don't forget $ in ready(function to use jquery in your js

I'm trying to simply detect clicking an A link to display an Alert box. Whenever I place the script inside the php file my a link is located, it works fine, but whenever I place it in my custom JS file, it doesn't detect it, and I get the error 'Uncaught TypeError : Cannot set property "onclick" of null'.
The link between the php page and custom js page is definitely working, as I have previous working code on the page. It simply wont detect my A link it its located in an external script.
HTML
<a id="ConfirmHolidayClose" href="#">
<img src="assets/img/close-button.png" alt="Holiday-request-close-button"
class="CloseButton" />
</a>
JAVASCRIPT
document.getElementById("ConfirmHolidayClose").onclick=function(){
alert("Working");
}
UPDATE - Forgot to mention sorry, my a link is nested inside div called 'ConfirmHoliday'.
I have JS code manipulating the ConfirmHoliday div inside my Custom JS, so it cant be loading after because it is finding its parent div perfectly well at the moment.
The javascript file runs before the element is created, thus it doesn't exist. To solve this, you have couple options:
1) Surround the code with a window.onload function
window.onload = function () {
// Your code here
};
2) Put it in a separate js file and add a defer property to the script tag.
<script src="yourScript.js" defer="defer"></script>
3) Put the script tag after the anchor tag
It's trying to access the ConfirmHolidayClose element before it exists maybe? Where is your JS loaded in your page? I'm guessing in your <head>
A few solutions:
1) Move your script to bottom of page just above </body>
2) wrap your JS in dom ready function, this ensures no JS will run until the DOM tree exists. Easiest with jQuery, example below...
jQuery example
$(function() {
document.getElementById("ConfirmHolidayClose").onclick=function(){
alert("Working");
}
});
Vanilla example
document.addEventListener("DOMContentLoaded", function() {
document.getElementById("ConfirmHolidayClose").onclick=function(){
alert("Working");
}
});
my javascript code works withing a my html file but when I move it to a javascript file of its own, it doesn't work. I checked and it is not an issue with the file location. And it doesn't work in any browser. Please help. Thank you.
My HTML calling the file:
<script type="text/javascript" src="js/click-dropdown.js"></script>
Here is my javascript code:
$(document).ready(function() {
$('.prospectus-click').click(function() {
//REMOVE THE ON CLASS FROM ALL BUTTONS
//$('.prospectus-form > div').parent().removeClass('on');
$('.prospectus-arrow').removeClass('prospectus-arrow-up');
//NO MATTER WHAT WE CLOSE ALL OPEN SLIDES
$('.table-wrap').slideUp('fast');
//IF THE NEXT SLIDE WASN'T OPEN THEN OPEN IT
if($('.prospectus-click').next().is(':hidden') == true) {
//ADD THE IMGON CLASS TO THE IMAGE
//$(this).find('.accimge').addClass('imgon');
//ADD THE ON CLASS TO THE BUTTON
$('.prospectus-arrow').addClass('prospectus-arrow-up');
//OPEN THE SLIDE
$('.prospectus-click').next().slideDown('medium');
}
});
/*** REMOVE IF MOUSEOVER IS NOT REQUIRED ***/
$('.prospectus-click').mouseover(function() {
$(this).parent().addClass('over');
}).mouseout(function() {
$(this).parent().removeClass('over');
});
$('.table-wrap').hide();
$('.live-consult').click(function() {
//NO MATTER WHAT WE CLOSE ALL OPEN SLIDES
$('.live-consult-div').slideUp('fast');
//IF THE NEXT SLIDE WASN'T OPEN THEN OPEN IT
if($('.live-consult').next().is(':hidden') == true) {
$('.live-consult').next().slideDown('medium');
}
});
/*** REMOVE IF MOUSEOVER IS NOT REQUIRED ***/
$('.live-consult').mouseover(function() {
$(this).parent().addClass('over');
}).mouseout(function() {
$(this).parent().removeClass('over');
});
$('.live-consult-div').hide();
});
The Javascript file you have written is using the jQuery library. In order for this to work you must load the jQuery library prior to your script.
You can download jQuery from here http://jquery.com/
I would also suggest for performance that you use the minified file and make your scripts load at the bottom of your html page before the closing body tag.
<script type="text/javascript" src="js/jquery-min-1.11.0.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript" src="js/click-dropdown.js"></script>
As Nevett and David mentioned suspected that you might be including/loading your 'click-dropdown.js' file prior to inclusion of jquery library. But if you are not sure in which order you have the included your script, then simple way to detect is either check you dev console for error "ReferenceError: $ is not defined" or just simply write
alert('my $ is '+typeof $);
as the very first line of your script. If alert says undefined then include your script after jquery. If alert says function then please describe what is the exact problem you are facing; any error, warnings.
I have been trying to change the background image of my HTML body with a .js but nothing happens. Do I need to put the Javascript code inside my HTML?
function plano1() {
alert('you');
$(document.body).css('background-image', 'url(img/planoSelected.png)');
}
This is the complete function I have been trying to do. Google Chrome shows the alert, but doesn't do the $(document.body). What am I supposed to do?
Notes: I use the function with a "onmouseover". I have already tried to use:
$('body').css('background-image', 'url(img/planoSelected_2.png)');
$("body").css('background-image', 'url(img/planoSelected_2.png)');
The jQuery code should be called at the bottom of the page, above the closing body tag.
Load jQuery first:
<script src="//ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.7.2/jquery.min.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
<script type="text/javascript">
$(document).ready(function() {
$('body').css('background-image', 'url(img/planoSelected_2.png)');
});
</script>
The code is fine, but there are a few reasons why this might not work.
Make sure the image paths are correct, relative to the script's location
Is plano1 called?
Make sure jQuery is actually loaded
Make sure the DOM is ready when calling the function (use $(document).ready if not sure)
Make sure there are no errors in the code before plano1 is called
If these things are all right, and it still doesn't work, check if your onmouseover is working at all. Simply alert or log something in the console.
this seems to be simple.. but I am a bit noobish with jquery, maybe I am doing something silly wrong?
I want to click an image, and on that click, hide another image right next to it.
<script type="text/javascript">
$("#butShowMeSomeUnits").click(function() {
$('#arrowUnitspic').hide();
});
</script>
Id's are correct as per the two images. What am I missing? Debugging it, the code never gets fired...
Thanks
EDIT
I had my control as a nested control on an asp masterpage, and its id was being rewritten. I have now fixed the id, but I still cant get any joy... I also see my markup is being rendered as an "input", would that make a difference?
<head>
<script src="js/jquery.min.1.5.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
<script type="text/javascript">
$(document).ready(function () {
$("#butShowMeSomeUnits").click(function () {
$('#arrowUnitspic').hide();
});
});
</script>
</head>
<body>
<input type="image" src="bookings_media/buttons/show-me-some-units.png" onmouseout="this.src='bookings_media/buttons/show-me-some-units.png'" onmouseover="this.src='bookings_media/buttons/show-me-some-units_orange.png'" id="butShowMeSomeUnits" name="ctl00$ctl00$ContentPlaceHolder1$bookings_right_content$butShowMeSomeUnits">
</body>
EDIT
JS Fiddle
If there is any confusion... the JS fiddle I spooled up with the exact code also does not work...
You need to do do on page ready:
<script type="text/javascript">
$(document).ready(function() {
$("#butShowMeSomeUnits").click(function() {
$('#arrowUnitspic').hide();
});
});
</script>
Edit:
The fiddle you provided did not work until I chose jQuery 1.10.1 from the dropdown. You will notice your onmouseover changes the element first, but once you click on the input it does hide the image. Can you verify this works the same for you?
If the answer is no then I don't think you are loading the jQuery library on your page. To check this should work:
if (typeof jQuery != 'undefined') {
alert("jQuery library is loaded!");
}else{
alert("jQuery library is not found!");
}
In addition it might be helpful to see what errors your browser console /dev tools is showing.
Wrap the code in jQuery.ready() event. And also check whether jquery js file is loaded or not.
$(document).ready(function(){
$("#butShowMeSomeUnits").click(function() {
$('#arrowUnitspic').hide();
});
});
You code looks good and works check here
What you might be missisng is either:
to load jQuery script in the head of your page.
to include $(document).ready(function() { //code here }); in case your <img> tags are after the script in the page code. This is so your code loads when page is ready/loaded.
Steps that may help you:
make sure you integrate jQuery lib right. (to check that you might wanna open console on chrome and type $("html").hide(); and see if the current page dissapears)
make sure your custom JS file or code is UNDER the including of jQuery lib.
very good starting point with jQuery is to put everything in $(document).ready() as below example:
$(document).ready(function(){
$("img").click(function(){
$("img").hide();
$(this).show();
});
});
I am new to jQuery and am stuck at some strange issue. I am using jQuery's change and click methods. They are working fine when used in my HTML file in the <script> tag.
Like:
<script>
$("select,input").change(function ()
{
// My code and some alerts
});
</script>
When I copied the same in external JavaScript code without <script> and imported that in my HTML it was not at all working.
Are there any changes which are needed to use jQuery in external JavaScript code?
PS: Some other non-jQuery functions present in same external JavaScript code are successfully called from HTML.
First off, you don't want a <script> tag in an external JavaScript file, if that's how I'm reading your post.
The trick with jQuery is that your code is set to execute immediately.
You want to wrap your script so that it loads when the document is ready, in something like:
$(document).ready(function(){
$("select,input").change(function ()
{
// My code and some alerts
})
});
And you want to make sure that your file is loaded after jQuery (otherwise the $ global will not be set).
Additions:
Here is what your HTML should look like:
<script type="text/javascript" src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.6.1/jquery.min.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript" src="jscript/myExternalJs.js"></script>
Here is what your JavaScript code should look like (note there is no script tag inside the JavaScript file):
$(document).ready(function(){
$("select,input").change(function ()
{
// My code and some alerts
})
// Other event handlers.
});
As far as your other script... it sort of depends on what you're doing. The most important thing is to not try to hook event listeners up to objects that don't yet exist, which is why we use document.ready.
Did you make sure jquery is defined before your own jquery code?
You should also make sure the DOM is ready when dealing with jquery:
$(document).ready(function() {
$("select,input").change(function() {
// my code and some alerts
});
// more code here if needed, etc.
});
