hi i have made a registration form using jquery and php which validates the user input whilst they are entering data, when all the information is correct i want to allow the user to submit the form. i am going to do this by writing an if statement which checks if the error messages are empty and if the submit button has been clicked. at the moment i am just testing my isset button and its no working and i have no idea why.
It seams like you are having problems with your javascript validation. Here is a sample validator using jquery.
/*Intercepts the form submision*/
$('#myform').submit(function(e) {
/*sets send to true*/
var send = true;
/*foreach required element*/
$('.required').each(function() {
/*check if input is valid*/
if (!$(this).val()) {
/*if not valid, don't send and mark red*/
send = false;
$(this).css('background-color', 'red');
} else {
/*if valid, take away mark*/
$(this).css('background-color', 'none');
}
});
/*if don't send, prevent sending*/
if (!send) {
e.preventDefault();
return false;
}
});
<script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/2.1.0/jquery.min.js"></script>
<form id='myform' method='post'>
<input name='test' class='required' />
<input type='submit' />
</form>

I am trying to check if all form fields are filled on click a button & if valid then i am trying to add a check an alert using jquery.
jQuery("button#btn_place_order").click(function(event){
jQuery("form").validate({
submitHandler: function(form) {
alert('ok');
}
});
});
This is what i have tried but its not working, i just want to check if all fields are ok valid & filled & there is no form related error then just console or alert to check. Webpage has two or more html forms. Is their any way we can check using jquery ?
Thanks
First of you will have to prevent the default behavior of a form submit. Afterwards add a event listener to your button and check for validation of each input. (whatever that means for you). Is this what you wanted?
var el = document.getElementById("form");
el.addEventListener("submit", function(event) {
event.preventDefault();
}, true);
document.getElementById("btn").addEventListener("click", validate);
function validate(){
let valid = true;
[...document.getElementById("form").elements].forEach((input) => {
if(input.value.length == 0){
valid = false;
}
});
if(valid) alert("valid");
}
<form id="form">
<input type="text" name="TEST" id="test">
</form>
<button class="button" name="Send" value="Send" id="btn">Check</button>
I am trying to disable the function I pass to addEventListener when the user clicks on submit. I put code in to prevent user from leaving page if they have entered data on any of the fields. This works fine. If the user tries to navigate away they get a warning as expected. However, I can't seem to figure out how to disable this feature once all of the fields are populated and the user clicks submit. As it stands, they are prompted to make sure they want to navigate away when they click on submit and I don't want this to happen when the user clicks submit.
I've tried something like the below, to try to unbind the beforeunload function based on submit, but this isn't working. I feel like this is the right general idea, but I'm struggling to make this work as I want it to.
$('form').submit(function() {
$(window).unbind('beforeunload');
});
$(window).on('beforeunload',function(){
return '';
});
The code below works as expected:
window.addEventListener('beforeunload', function (event) {
console.log('checking form');
let inputValue = document.querySelector('#myInput').value;
if (inputValue.length > 0) {
console.log(inputValue);
event.returnValue = 'Are you sure you wish to leave?';
}
event.preventDefault();
});
If the user clicks submit I want the beforeunload function to be turned off essentially.
Was able to solve this problem using the suggestion that was made by Bipperty via this SO issue...Narrow Down BeforeUnload To Only Fire If Field Is Changed or Updated. Ultimately the code below is what I used to turn off beforeunload when submitting the form....
var submitting = false;
window.addEventListener("beforeunload", function (event) {
console.log('checking form');
let inputValue = document.querySelector('#myInput').value;
if(inputValue.length > 0 && submitting === false) {
console.log(inputValue);
event.returnValue = 'Are you sure you wish to leave?';
}
event.preventDefault();
});
document.addEventListener("submit", function(event) {
submitting = true;
});
If you bind a handler using .on() you can remove the bound event using .off()
$('form').submit(function() {
$(window).off('beforeunload');
});
$(window).on('beforeunload',function(){
return '';
});
However, I feel in your scenario you don't really need the beforeunload at all if you handle your form submit logically.
I've mocked up an example of how you can logically submit the form if a user chooses to submit the form based on a condition (in this case if all fields aren't filled).
$('form').on('submit', function (e) {
var inputs = $(':text', this);
console.log(inputs.length)
var validInputs = inputs.filter(function () {
return $(this).val().length;
}).length;
if (validInputs > 0 && validInputs < inputs.length) {
var r = confirm("Are you sure you want to leave?");
if (!r) e.preventDefault()
}
})
<script src="https://cdnjs.cloudflare.com/ajax/libs/jquery/3.3.1/jquery.min.js"></script>
<form action="http://google.com" method="get">
<input name="a" placeholder="Input 1">
<input name="b" placeholder="Input 2">
<input name="c" placeholder="Input 3">
<button type="submit">Submit</button>
</form>
Update
To prompt the user before leaving a form:
window.onbeforeunload = function(){
return 'Are you sure you want to leave?';
};
See this post
Use the required attribute on each field and you won't need to do all of that. The following demo will refuse any attempts to submit it's form if there's a blank field. It will send to a live test server and a response will be displayed verifying a successful submission.
Demo
window.onbeforeunload = function(){
return 'Are you sure you want to leave?';
};
label {
display: inline-block;
width: 75px
}
[type=submit] {
margin-left: 200px
}
<form id='form' action='http://httpbin.org/post' method='post' target='response'>
<label>Name: </label><input name='Name' type='text' required><br>
<label>Cell: </label><input name='Cell' type='tel' required><br>
<label>Date: </label><input name='Date' type='date' required><br>
<input type="submit">
</form>
<iframe src='about:blank' name='response'></iframe>
I have this email form, with "Sender, "Subject" and "Message".
But i haven't linked it to make sure they have written something, so if someone press the "Send" button without typing anyting, i get a blank email. So i want it to abort the email sending if the textbox is empty, and send it if it contains any text.
code for the send button:
<input type="submit" name="submit" value="Submit" class="submit-button" />
ID for the textbox is: textbox_text
You can use jquery to validate the form like this-
<script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/2.1.1/jquery.min.js"></script>
<form action="" method="post">
Sender
<input type="text">
<br/>Subject
<input type="text">
<br/>Message
<input type="text" id="txtMessage">
<br/>
<input type="submit" value="Send" name="btnSend">
</form>
<script type="text/javascript">
$(document).ready(function() {
$("input[name=btnSend]").click(function() {
var msg = $("#txtMessage").val();
if (msg == "") {
alert("Please enter the message");
return false;
}
});
});
</script>
Java Script function
<script type="text/javascript">
function IsEmpty()
{
if(document.forms['frm'].textbox_text.value == "")
{
alert('Message body is empty');
return false;
}
return true;
}
</script>
HTML
<form name="frm">
<input type="submit" name="submit" onclick="return IsEmpty();" value="Submit" class="submit-button" />
</form>
EDIT Check textbox2 in if condition
if(document.forms['frm'].textbox1.value == "" && document.forms['frm'].textbox2.value == "")
I dont know this is your exact answer but it will helps you to validate:
$('#checkSubmit').click(function(){
var chec=$("#textContent").val();
if(chec=="")
alert("Please add your content");
else
alert("successfully submitted");
});
check out this fiddle:

You need to check that on server side (with php) and you can also check it on client side(Javascript).
Client side test is good if you want the user to get fast response, but you still need to check it on server side because javascript on your website can ALWAYS be changed by user.
You could also just add "required" on your input elements.
for server side check with php:
<?php
//Check if variables exist
if(isset($_POST['sender']) && isset($_POST['subject']) && isset($_POST['message'])){
//Check if sender value is empty
if(empty($_POST['sender'])){
//If empty, go back to form.Display error with $_GET['error'] in your form page
header('location: backToFormPage.php?error=send');
}
//...
}
//Variables doesn't exist
else{
//Redirect to page or other action
}
?>
You can achieve it two ways:
1. Client Side( Which i recommend) use the form validation to validate the form data if it is empty tell them to fill it. You chose the submit button to trigger validation that is not recommended instead validation is triggered on form submission or on change of input elements(for real-time validation). Anyways below is an example for validation using the click event on submit button.
var validateTextBox = function(textBox) {
var val = textBox.value;
if(val=="") { // Check for empty textbox
return false;
}
return true;
}
documnet.querySelector('#SubmitButton').onclick(function () {
var textbox = document.querySelector("#SubjectORMessage").value;
if(validateTextBox(textbox)){
// Do something to let page know that form is valid
} else {
// Let the user know that he has done something wrong
alert("Please fill the content");
}
})
2. Server Side if unfortunately empty data is send to the server, then use server side validation (Server side validation requires a little more thing to do at more than one place, i.e., html, php/python/perl)
I am using HTML5's required attribute on my input elements and select boxes and PHP for validation.
How can I show an alert if the required fields are not filled in? I tried using onsubmit() but the form is processed anyway and no alert is shown.
If the user's browser supports html5, he cant submit the form if not all the required fields have been written into.
Generally, you can prevent a form from submitting in jQuery like so:
$('#yourformselector').submit(function(event) {
$(this).find('[required="required"]').each(function() {
if (!$(this).val().length) {
event.preventDefault();
return false;
}
});
});
If you are using a modern/newer web browser, your default browser alerts should automatically display.
Or try:
$(document).ready(function() {
$('form').submit(function() {
var incomplete = $('form :input').filter(function() {
return $(this).val() == '';
});
//if incomplete contains any elements, the form has not been filled
if(incomplete.length) {
alert('please fill out the form');
//to prevent submission of the form
return false;
}
});
});
You may use checkValidity(), it will try to validate with attributes like pattern, min, max, required, etc. Follow this link to go deeper here
function myFunction() {
var inpObj = document.getElementById("id1");
if (inpObj.checkValidity() == false) {
alert('invalid input')
} else {
alert('valid input')
}
}
<input id="id1" type="number" min="100" max="300" required>
<button onclick="myFunction()">OK</button>
I am checking the textbox value in javascript. and saving to database. where as my save is of submit type. I want if textbox value is greater than 100 then it should alert. and after alert , page should not submit.
Firstly, bind the click event of that button to a function. Secondly, use event.prevent default to stop that button from submitting the form. Thirdly, validate the value you want. If validated, use form id to submit the form. Something like this:
$("#ButtonId").on("click", function(event) {
event.preventDefault ? event.preventDefault() : event.returnValue = false;
if ($("#InputBoxID").val() < 100) {
$("#FormId").submit();
}
else {
alert("your message");
}
});
Above code is in jQuery, so do not forget to add the reference to jQuery.
I think you're looking for something like:
<form id="myForm" onsubmit="return validateForm();">
<input type="text" id="textfield"/>
<button type="submit">submit</button>
</form>
<script>
function validateForm(){
var value=parseInt(document.getElementById('textfield').value);
if(value>100){
alert('value is no good. larger then 100');
return false;
}
}
</script>
If you can show me your code I'd be happy to help you implementing such a feature.
Here you have an example of how to do it. I used a limit of 10 characters to make the test easier: Try if yourself
HTML:
<input type="text" id="myTextBox" onkeyup="checkValue(this)" maxlength="10"></input>
<input id="sendButton" type="submit" value="SEND"></inpu
JAVASCRIPT:
function checkValue(textbox) {
if (textbox.value.length > 10) {
alert("TEXT TOO LONG");
document.getElementById("sendButton").disabled = true;
}
else
document.getElementById("sendButton").disabled = false;
}
