i'm trying to create an inline editing plugin for a new project, I'm working on. It should be very easy. Just an fa-pencil icon on side of the text, which should be edited.
Currently I've got HTML like so (simplified):
<div class="inline-edit-icon">
<i class="fa fa-pencil"></i>
</div>
<div class="inline-edit">
<p id="doctor-info-text" class="inline-edit-text">{{userInfo.description}}</p>
<textarea class="form-control inline-edit-input" ng-model="userInfo.description"></textarea>
</div>
And I'm triggering the visibility of the .inline-edit-icon div via jQuery:
$('.inline-edit-text').hover(function(e){
var coordinates = $(this).offset();
$('.inline-edit-icon').css('top', coordinates.top);
$('.inline-edit-icon').css('left', coordinates.left - $('.inline-edit-icon').width());
$('.inline-edit-icon').show();
}, function(){
$('.inline-edit-icon').hide();
});
The problem is, I can't click on the icon, as it gets hidden before I get my mouse to it.
How can I keep it visible when the mouse is over either text or icon?
Does this example help you? Notice the changes I made with HTML AND CSS:
$('.inline-edit-text, .fa-pencil').hover(function(e){
var coordinates = $(this).offset();
console.log(coordinates)
//$('.inline-edit-icon').css('top', coordinates.top);
//$('.inline-edit-icon').css('left', coordinates.left);
$('.inline-edit-icon').show();
}, function(){
$('.inline-edit-icon').hide();
});
JSFiddle
Add a container around your .inline blocks, and you trigger the hover on it.
Something like :
<div class="inline-container">
<div class="inline-edit-icon">
<i class="fa fa-pencil">o</i>
</div>
<div class="inline-edit">
<p id="doctor-info-text" class="inline-edit-text">{{userInfo.description}}</p>
<textarea class="form-control inline-edit-input" ng-model="userInfo.description"></textarea>
</div>
</div>
and the script part:
$('.inline-container').hover(function(e){
var coordinates = $(this).children('.inline-edit').offset();
var $icon = $(this).children('.inline-edit-icon');
$icon.css('top', coordinates.top);
$icon.css('left', coordinates.left - $icon.width());
$icon.show();
}, function(){
$('.inline-edit-icon').hide();
});
Working Fiddle: http://jsfiddle.net/qej24s5m/
Hope it's gonna help you.
You may want to use mouseenter and mouseleave events:
$('.inline-edit-text, .fa.fa-pencil').on('mouseenter',function(e){
var coordinates = $(this).offset();
$('.inline-edit-icon').css('top', coordinates.top);
$('.inline-edit-icon').css('left', coordinates.left - $('.inline-edit-icon').width());
$('.inline-edit-icon').show();
});
$('.inline-edit-text, .fa.fa-pencil').on('mouseleave',function(e){
$('.inline-edit-icon').hide();
});

I'd like to have basic code like the following:
<span onmouseover="alert('hi')">Hello, <span onmouseover="alert('hello')">this</span> is a test</span>
However, I'd like to keep it from firing both of these events if both are being hovered over; e.g. if I hover over "this" it should fire only its event and alert "hello." How can I do this?
Thank you in advance!
$(".container").hover(function(){
alert($(this).attr("id"));
});
<script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/2.1.1/jquery.min.js"></script>
<span class="container" id="hi">
Hello,
</span>
<span class="container" id="hello">
this
</span>
<span class="container" id="hi">
is a test
</span>
I am going to assume that the overlapping elements are not the same size. I.e one is bigger than the other.
HTML and inline js:
<span class="container" id="hi">
Hello,
</span>
<span class="container " id="hello">
this </span>
<script>
var hello =
document.getElementById("hello");
var this =
document.getElementById
("this");
hello.addEventListener("click
",pop("hello"));
this.addEventListener("click",pop(" hi");
function pop(string) {
window.alert(string);
}
<\script>
That being said very little is mentioned about the nature of the elements this and hello. Op plz show your CSS and update ques
Here's the relevant portion of what I ended up using. I used JQuery.
var mouseHovered = function(element) {
//get all hovered spans
var hoveredElements = $("span:hover");
//get the element with the smallest text
var smallestElement;
for(var i=0; i<hoveredElements.length; i++) if(!smallestElement || hoveredElements[i].textContent.length < smallestElement.textContent.length) smallestElement = hoveredElements[i];
//if this is the smallest text in the elements
if(element == smallestElement) {
//log the text
console.log(element.textContent);
}
}
You need to prevent Event bubbling when you hover/click on inner span.
This can be done using event.stopPropagation().
Look at two solutions provided at this JSFiddle.
Solution 1 - Use of e.stopPropagation() in the handler function innerSpan().
Solution 2 - Use of event.stopPropagation() in inline onclick event.
<span onclick="alert('Outer span');">
Outer
<span onclick="event.stopPropagation(); alert('Inner span');">
Inner
</span>
</span>
I'm fairly new to Javascript/Jquery and I'm trying to hide multiple children/adjacent classes when a specific parent class is clicked.
Here's my HTML
<div class="container">
<div class="row">
<div class ="col-md-2 pov_icon">
<div class="pov_icon_small">
<i class="fa fa-clock-o"></i>
</div>
<div class="pov_title_small">
MEASURE
</div>
</div>
<div class ="col-md-2 pov_icon">
<div class="pov_icon_large">
<i class="fa fa-map-marker"></i>
</div>
<div class="pov_title_large">
MEASURE
</div>
</div>
<div class ="col-md-2 pov_icon">
<div class="pov_icon_small">
<i class="fa fa-commenting"></i>
</div>
<div class="pov_title_small">
MEASURE
</div>
</div>
</div>
</div>
What I'm aiming to do is: When a user clicks one of the two smaller icons shown (pov_icon_small), for that individual icon: the classes pov_icon_small and pov_title_small will change to pov_icon_large and pov_title_large respectively. In the same time, I want the other 'large' icon and 'title' to revert back to the 'small' state
I've started calling some Javascript but I don't think I'm headed the right way:
$('.pov_icon_small').on('click', function (e) {
$(this).toggleClass("pov_icon_large");
});
Would anyone be willing to point me to the right direction?
To use individual click
$('.pov_icon_small , .pov_icon_large').on('click', function (e) {
$('.pov_icon_large').not($(this)).removeClass('pov_icon_large').addClass('pov_icon_small');
$(this).toggleClass("pov_icon_small").toggleClass("pov_icon_large");
});
and for title the same way
$('.pov_title_small , .pov_title_large').on('click', function (e) {
$('.pov_title_large').not($(this)).removeClass('pov_title_large').addClass('pov_title_small');
$(this).toggleClass("pov_title_small").toggleClass("pov_title_large");
});
Working Demo
To run both action on icon click use this
$('.pov_icon_small , .pov_icon_large').on('click', function () {
$('.pov_icon_large').not($(this)).removeClass('pov_icon_large').addClass('pov_icon_small');
$('.pov_title_large').not($(this).next('div[class^="pov_title_"]')).removeClass('pov_title_large').addClass('pov_title_small');
$(this).toggleClass("pov_icon_small").toggleClass("pov_icon_large");
$(this).next('div[class^="pov_title_"]').toggleClass("pov_title_small").toggleClass("pov_title_large");
});
Working Demo
Note: be sure to include Jquery
You can add a common class icon for the icon div and title for the title div and following code will work,
$(".pov_icon_small").on('click',function(){
$(this).parent().siblings().children('div').each(function(value){
if($(this).hasClass('icon'))
$(this).addClass('pov_icon_small').removeClass('pov_icon_large');
else if($(this).hasClass('title'))
$(this).addClass('pov_title_small').removeClass('pov_title_large');
});
$(this).addClass('pov_icon_large').removeClass('pov_icon_small');
$(this).siblings('.title').addClass('pov_title_large').removeClass('pov_title_small');
});
Here as you can see, I am first getting parent of the icon clicked i.e. Your pav_icon div now I am changing for all the siblings now each div in the sibling. If it is Iicon changing icon classes as required if title changing title classes.
I got a question regarding using the draggable function of jQuery UI. I got the following situation:
<div id="dragThis">
<span>
<b id="posX"></b>
<b id="posY"></b>
</span>
</div>
<div id="dragThis">
<span>
<b id="posX"></b>
<b id="posY"></b>
</span>
</div>
<div id="dragThis">
<span>
<b id="posX"></b>
<b id="posY"></b>
</span>
</div>
With this as JS code:
$('#dragThis').draggable(
{
drag: function(){
var offset = $(this).offset();
var xPos = offset.left;
var yPos = offset.top;
$('#posX').text('x: ' + xPos);
$('#posY').text('y: ' + yPos);
}
});
JSFIDDLE
Dragging the first div works fine. But it will not work on the other div's. How can I achieve this? I need some kind of guidance how to drag the specific div.
I do not think the solution of setting for each div a different id and copying the draggable function for each div is a proper solution.
Any help would be very appreciated.
Try making it class instead id
<div class="dragThis">
id can not not be duplicated in a document. So you can do it using class. You also can write like :
<div id="dragThis" class="drag">
and refer to this class to draggable.

I have made a simple system which detects double taps. I want to show a heart icon when someone double taps on an image, just like on Instagram.
This is what my code looks right now:
var elements = document.getElementsByClassName('snap_img');
[].slice.call(elements).forEach(function(element) {
var hammertime = new Hammer(element),
img_src = element.getAttribute('src');
hammertime.on('doubletap', function(event) {
alert(img_src); // this is to test if doubletap works
// Some javascript to show the heart icon
});
});
This is what the HTML looks like:
<div class="snap_item">
<div class="snap_item_following_info">
<img class="snap_item_following_img" src="res/stat/img/user/profile/small/1.fw.png" alt="#JohnDoe" />
<a class="snap_item_following_name" href="#">#JohnDoe</a>
<div class="snap_too">
</div>
</div>
<img class="snap_img" src="res/stat/img/user/snap/43/2.fw.png" alt="#ErolSimsir" />
<div class="like_heart"></div>
<div class="snap_info">
<div class="snap_text">
LA is the shit...
<a class="snap_text_hashtah" href="#">#LA_city_trip</a>
</div>
<div class="snap_sub_info">
<span class="snap_time">56 minutes ago</span>
<div class="like inactive_like">
<div class="like_icon"></div>
<div class="like_no_active">5477</div>
</div>
</div>
</div>
</div>
So when the element 'snap_img' is double tapped, I need to get the element 'like_heart' which is one line below the snap_img element. How do I get that sibling element and fade it in with JQuery?
Like this
[].slice.call(elements).forEach(function(element) {
var hammertime = new Hammer(element),
img_src = element.getAttribute('src');
hammertime.on('doubletap', function(event) {
alert(img_src); // this is to test if doubletap works
$(element).next().text('♥').hide().fadeIn();
});
});
P.S. I've added that heart text, since the sibling was empty.
On the event handler, i would do $(element).parent().find('.like_heart').fadeIn(); So the code is not dependant on the element ordering.
(To clarify to selector: take the parent element which is the div.snap_item and find an element with class like-heart inside it)
I have a page where you can click to slideDown an element from the top of the page.
I am trying to create a rule that says if the push down is visible and the screen has scrolled further than the height of the push down then it should be hidden again. Meaning the user will have to push the button to get it to show again.
In my HTML I have:
<div class="row" id="learn-more" style="display:none">
<div class="small-12 columns" id="close">
<p id="close-learn">
<i class="fa fa-times pull-right fa-2x"></i>
</p>
</div>
<div class="small-12 columns" id="learn-content">
<h1>Content for Pushdown</h1>
</div>
</div>
<div class="row" id="hero">
<div class="small-12 columns small-centered">
<p id="learn"><a class="transition">Learn More</a></p>
</div>
</div>
In my Javascript I have:
// Open and close learn more section
$("#learn").on("click", function() {
$("#learn-more").slideDown();
});
$("#close-learn").on("click", function() {
$("#learn-more").slideUp();
});
// Close learn-more based on scroll position
$(window).on("scroll", function() {
var scrollPosition = $(window).scrollTop();
if ($("#learn-more").is(":visible") && scrollPosition > $("#learn-more").height()) {
$("#learn-more").slideUp()
}
});
This all works but when the #learn-more element slides up the page jumps down about 500 pixels which is the height of the #learn-more element. I would like mine to work in the same way as Airbnb's new homepage when you click the 'how it works' button and then scroll below the push down element.
Any advice would be much appreciated.
Seems that this situation occurs because $(window).scrollTop position is preserved after the the slideUp() is called.
But we can memorize the visible position of Learn More button relative to the top of the window and after text block is hidden return to this position. Also, i suggest to use hide() instead of slideUp() here.
Here is what I suggest to do on scroll:
$(window).on("scroll", function(event) {
var scrollPosition = $(window).scrollTop();
var learnMore = $("#learn-more");
if (learnMore.is(":visible") && scrollPosition > learnMore.height()) {
var learnMoreButtonTop = $("#learn").offset().top - scrollPosition;
learnMore.hide();
$(window).scrollTop(learnMoreButtonTop);
}
});
