I am trying to make a play / pause button.
This is what I have right now.
Here is the html.
<img alt="play" src="img/play.png" id="imgClickAndChange" onclick="changeImage()" class="hidden-xs hidden-sm" style="position: relative; width: 10%; z-index: 10000; margin: 0 auto; top: 42%;"/>
Here is the javascript:
function changeImage() {
if (document.getElementById("imgClickAndChange").src = "../final_copy/img/play.png")
{
document.getElementById("imgClickAndChange").src = "../final_copy/img/pause.png";
}
else {
if (document.getElementById("imgClickAndChange").src = "../final_copy/img/pause.png")
{
document.getElementById("imgClickAndChange").src = "../final_copy/img/play.png";
}
}
}
I know th second "if" probably isn't needed but neither way works. I can only get the image to change from the play image to the pause image but when I click it again it doesn't change back.
Thanks for the help!
You are comparing those src values wrong. Use == instead of =
if (document.getElementById("imgClickAndChange").src == "../final_copy/img/play.png") {
document.getElementById("imgClickAndChange").src = "../final_copy/img/pause.png";
}
else {
if (document.getElementById("imgClickAndChange").src == "../final_copy/img/pause.png") {
document.getElementById("imgClickAndChange").src = "../final_copy/img/play.png";
}
}
If its a simple toggle function, you'd need just one check:
function changeImage() {
if (document.getElementById("imgClickAndChange").src == "../final_copy/img/play.png") {
document.getElementById("imgClickAndChange").src = "../final_copy/img/pause.png";
}else{
document.getElementById("imgClickAndChange").src = "../final_copy/img/play.png";
}
}
you need var isPasued=false; switch image src!
var isPaused=false;
var imgObj=document.querySelect("img")[0]; //edit this
imgObj.addEventListener("click",function(){
if(!isPaused){
imgObj.src="../final_copy/img/play.png";
isPaused=true;
}
else
{
imgObj.src="../final_copy/img/pause.png";
isPaused=false;
}
});
= is == I agree the one answer in up!
var element = "document.getElementById("imgClickAndChange").src",
play = "../final_copy/img/play.png",
pause = "../final_copy/img/pause.png";
if (element == play) {
element = pause;
} else {
if (element == pause) {
element = play";
}
}
}

I want to make a button for night and day mode.I found this link but it doesn't work for me.
when i click the button, it applies css to change background and text color and button value which is night to day but if i click button again it doesn't work. it keeps execute "if" part not "else" part.
//nightmode
var mode = localStorage.getItem("mode");
if (mode != null) {
document.getElementById("body").classList.add(mode);
}
document.getElementById("nightButton").onclick = function() {
var nightButton = document.getElementById("nightButton")
var body = document.getElementById("body");
if (nightButton.value = "night") {
body.classList.add("nightMode");
nightButton.value = "day";
localStorage.setItem('mode', 'nightMode');
} else {
body.classList.remove("nightMode");
nightButton.value = "night";
localStorage.setItem("mode", null);
}
};
.nightMode {
background-color: black;
color: white;
}
<body id="body">
<input type="button" value="night" id="nightButton">
<div>abcd</div>
</body>
Just change the line
if (nightButton.value = "night") {
to
if (nightButton.value == "night") {
You can simplify the mode button handler. This snippet including handling of localStorage (can't be used in SO-snippets) can be found #JsFiddle
document.addEventListener("click", evt => {
if (evt.target.id === "nightButton") {
const body = document.body;
body.classList.toggle("nightMode");
evt.target.value = `set ${
body.classList.contains("nightMode") ? "day" : "night"}`;
document.querySelector("#currentMode").textContent = `Current mode: ${
body.classList.contains("nightMode") ? "NIGHT" : "DAY"}`;
}
});
.nightMode {
background-color: black;
color: white;
}
body {
margin: 2rem;
}
#currentMode {
margin-top: 1rem;
}
<div>abcd
<input type="button" value="set night" id="nightButton">
</div>
<div id="currentMode"></div>
there is a little error in your code.
This code: if (nightButton.value = "night") {
Can you change it: if (nightButton.value == "night") {
Example here: https://codepen.io/yasgo/pen/OJRLErL
thank you all
I don't know if this is good codes but i tried this and it works ...
var mode = localStorage.getItem("mode");
document.getElementById("body").classList.add(mode);
if (mode == "nightMode") {
document.getElementById("nightButton").value = "day"
} else {
document.getElementById("nightButton").value = "night"
}
document.getElementById("nightButton").onclick = function () {
var nightButton = document.getElementById("nightButton")
var body = document.getElementById("body");
if (nightButton.value == "night") {
body.classList.add("nightMode");
nightButton.value = "day";
localStorage.setItem('mode', 'nightMode');
} else {
body.classList.remove("nightMode");
nightButton.value = "night";
localStorage.setItem("mode", "daymode");
}
};
I want do have a basic Darkmode linked to a key press. I'am a Beginner in JavaScript and i cannot get it to work. I want it like, you press a key, the Darkmode turns on with a Cookie over js-cookie, and I press the same Key again to turn off the Darkmode and delete the cookie. Can anybody help me?
There is my Code:
var elem = document.getElementById("folie");
window.addEventListener("keydown", checkKeyPress);
function checkKeyPress(key) {
let zahl = 1;
if (key.keyCode == "70") {
if (zahl == 1) {
zahl++
dark()
Cookies.set("Darkmode", "An");
}
if (zahl == 2) {
zahl--
Cookies.remove("Darkmode")
}
}
}
var DarkCookie = Cookies.get("Darkmode");
if (DarkCookie == 'An') {
dark();
}
function dark() {
var element = document.body;
element.classList.toggle("dark-mode");
}
Edit:
Ok i've got it:
let CookieDarkMode = false;
function toggleDarkMode() {
var element = document.body;
element.classList.toggle("dark-mode");
}
window.addEventListener("keydown", checkKeyPress);
function checkKeyPress(key) {
if (key.keyCode === 70) { //"F" has been pressed
CookieDarkMode = !CookieDarkMode;
console.log("Cookie Dark mode: " + CookieDarkMode);
toggleDarkMode();
if (CookieDarkMode) {
Cookies.set("Darkmode", "An");
}else {
Cookies.remove("Darkmode");
}
}
};
var DarkCookie = Cookies.get("Darkmode")
if (DarkCookie == 'An') {
CookieDarkMode = true;
toggleDarkMode();
}
You don't have to store a number. You can just get the previous cookie value with a boolean
let CookieDarkMode = false;
function toggleDarkMode() {
var element = document.body;
element.classList.toggle("dark-mode");
}
window.addEventListener("keydown", checkKeyPress);
function checkKeyPress(key) {
if (key.keyCode === 70) { //"F" has been pressed
CookieDarkMode = !CookieDarkMode;
console.log("Cookie Dark mode: " + CookieDarkMode);
toggleDarkMode();
}
};
body {
background-color: ghostwhite;
}
.dark-mode {
background-color: black;
color: white;
}
<body>
<p>Lorem Ipsum</p>
</body>
your problem is on your checkKeyPress function, you always check for the zahl value, but it will always start as 1.
for demostration purposes you are doing this basically:
function sum(){
let zahl = 1;
zahl++
console.log(zahl)
}
// you will never see a 3, because you are creating `zhl`
// in each call with a value of 1
sum();
sum();
sum();
sum();
therefore, each time you check for the zahl variable, it will be 1 and will always enter the if that turns on the darkmode.
the solution for your code would be to move the zahl variable outside the function scope:
let zahl = 1; // outside the function scope
var elem = document.getElementById("folie");
window.addEventListener("keydown", checkKeyPress);
function checkKeyPress(key) {
if (key.keyCode == "70") {
if (zahl == 1) {
zahl++
dark()
Cookies.set("Darkmode", "An");
}else if (zahl == 2) {
zahl--
Cookies.remove("Darkmode")
dark(); //you should call dark here as well to toggle to the other mode.
}
}
}
var DarkCookie = Cookies.get("Darkmode");
if (DarkCookie == 'An') {
dark();
}
function dark() {
var element = document.body;
element.classList.toggle("dark-mode");
}
note: it doesn't look like the best implementation, it would be easier to read if you use a boolean for the state of the mode or if you want multiple types, you can use the name as a key for each of the modes.
I'm trying to have an image that changes when clicked: when image 1 is clicked, change to image 2, when image 2 is clicked change to image 3 and when image 3 is clicked it changes to image 1.
<p>
<img alt="" src="assets/img1.png"
style="height: 85px; width: 198px" id="imgClickAndChange" onclick="changeImage()" />
<script language="javascript">
function changeImage() {
if (document.getElementById("imgClickAndChange").src == "assets/img1.png")
{
document.getElementById("imgClickAndChange").src = "assets/img2.png";
}
else if (document.getElementById("imgClickAndChange").src == "assets/img2.png")
{
document.getElementById("imgClickAndChange").src = "assets/img3.png";
}
else if(document.getElementById("imgClickAndChange").src == "assets/img3.png"){
document.getElementById("imgClickAndChange").src = "assets/img1.png"
}
Clean and optimal solution in my opinion. As the users before said. It is good to use array to held the images paths.
var images = ["https://images.pexels.com/photos/67636/rose-blue-flower-rose-blooms-67636.jpeg?auto=compress&cs=tinysrgb&h=350", "https://i2.wp.com/beebom.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/Reverse-Image-Search-Engines-Apps-And-Its-Uses-2016.jpg?resize=640%2C426", "https://images.pexels.com/photos/248797/pexels-photo-248797.jpeg?auto=compress&cs=tinysrgb&h=350"]
var imgState = 0;
var imgTag = document.getElementById("imgClickAndChange");
imgTag.addEventListener("click", function (event) {
imgState = (++imgState % images.length);
event.target.src = images[imgState];
});
Solution
There were a lot of syntax errors in your code. I cleaned them up in a codepen here where you can see that your basic logic was correct. Though, as other users pointed out, there are more elegant ways to solve this problem.
https://codepen.io/anon/pen/MPYgxM
HTML:
<p>
<img alt="" src="https://r1.ilikewallpaper.net/ipad-wallpapers/download/26516/Natural-Grove-Green-Trees-Path-ipad-wallpaper-ilikewallpaper_com.jpg"
style="height: 85px; width: 198px" id="imgClickAndChange" onclick="changeImage()" />
</p>
JS:
function changeImage() {
if (document.getElementById("imgClickAndChange").src == "https://r1.ilikewallpaper.net/ipad-wallpapers/download/26516/Natural-Grove-Green-Trees-Path-ipad-wallpaper-ilikewallpaper_com.jpg")
{
document.getElementById("imgClickAndChange").src = "https://st2.depositphotos.com/1000438/6182/i/950/depositphotos_61826015-stockafbeelding-cascades-in-nationaal-park-plitvice.jpg";
}
else if (document.getElementById("imgClickAndChange").src == "https://st2.depositphotos.com/1000438/6182/i/950/depositphotos_61826015-stockafbeelding-cascades-in-nationaal-park-plitvice.jpg")
{
document.getElementById("imgClickAndChange").src = "https://orig00.deviantart.net/6787/f/2016/104/5/6/aria_maleki___natural_view_of_waterfall_by_aria_maleki-d9yytu8.jpg";
}
else if(document.getElementById("imgClickAndChange").src == "https://orig00.deviantart.net/6787/f/2016/104/5/6/aria_maleki___natural_view_of_waterfall_by_aria_maleki-d9yytu8.jpg"){
document.getElementById("imgClickAndChange").src = "https://r1.ilikewallpaper.net/ipad-wallpapers/download/26516/Natural-Grove-Green-Trees-Path-ipad-wallpaper-ilikewallpaper_com.jpg"
}
}
you can increment value on each click and update img. on base of incremented value
<img alt="" src="assets/img1.png" style="height: 85px; width: 198px" id="imgClickAndChange" onclick="changeImage()" />
<script language="javascript">
var counter = 1;
function changeImage() {
counter > 3 ? counter = 1 : counter++;
document.getElementById("imgClickAndChange").src = "assets/img"+counter+".png";
}
</script>
Hi this is different approach.
new ClickListener() is the class used to handle your logic & dom logic
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<head>
<meta charset="UTF-8">
<title>Image click</title>
</head>
<body>
<div id="player">
</div>
<script>
class ClickListener {
constructor() {
this.rootElement = document.querySelector( "#player" );
this.element = document.createElement("img");
this.rootElement.appendChild(this.element);
this.images = ['./1.jpg', './2.jpg', './3.jpg']
this.idx = 0
this.init()
}
init() {
this.element.src = this.images[this.idx]
this.element.style.width = `400px`;
this.element.style.height = `400px`;
this.element.onclick = this.nextImage.bind(this)
}
nextImage() {
this.idx++;
if(this.idx >= this.images.length) {
this.idx = 0;
}
this.element.src = this.images[this.idx]
}
}
new ClickListener()
</script>
</body>
</html>
I have made custom carousel (for learning) on this web page. Carousel has 2 buttons (next and previous) and dots (each dot is 1 picture). It all works fine, but there is one problem. I want to make automatic loop carousel (to loop through images in interval of X seconds). Now i am using setInterval(nextImgShow, 2000);. But every time i click on either button (next, previous, dots) the interval changes.
Example: I have interval of 2s. If i click on a button when 1,5s has passed, the next image will only show for 0,5s. If i click it right away at 0,5s, the next image will show for 1,5s.
I already try to fix this with clearInterval();, but it does not change a thing. I also try to use clearInterval(); and than set interval again setInterval(nextImgShow, 2000); (on every button), but no luck.
I also try to use setTimeout(); but again nothing.
My wish is: If interval is 2s, when i click on either of buttons, i want to reset/set my interval back to 2s. So that every image is displayed for 2s, no matter when the button was clicked.
Can anyone help me solve this?
Below is JavaScript code and link to my web page, so you can see.

imgDotBtn.forEach(btn => btn.addEventListener("click", dotBtnNavigate));
// for touch devices (carousel navigate)
const gestureZone = document.querySelector('.img-wrap');
let touchstartX = 0;
let touchstartY = 0;
let touchendX = 0;
let touchendY = 0;
// for touch devices function (carousel navigate)
function handleGesture() {

setInterval(nextImgShow, 2000);
// navigation events

imgDotBtn.forEach(btn => btn.addEventListener("click", dotBtnNavigate));
// for touch devices events (carousel navigate)
gestureZone.addEventListener('touchstart', function(event) {
touchstartX = event.changedTouches[0].screenX;
touchstartY = event.changedTouches[0].screenY;
}, false);
gestureZone.addEventListener('touchend', function(event) {
touchendX = event.changedTouches[0].screenX;
touchendY = event.changedTouches[0].screenY;
handleGesture();
}, false);
You should be passing the interval ID (returned from setInterval) to the clear interval function. For example:
let myIntervalID = setInterval(nextImgShow, 2000);
Then you can clear the interval doing clearInterval(myIntervalID) just make sure the variable myIntervalID is in scope when you clear it.
Your clearInterval wasn't actually clearing the interval so you ran into this problem. Once you correctly clear the interval (like above) and call the interval again (kinda like resetting the interval) your image will show for the full interval
You should assign the setInterval to a variable and use clearInterval when the user clicks on one of the buttons to change the image and then set the interval again.

Can Push() and Pop() and Image Replacement Work within an Array?
8th Gr math teacher attempting to create a slide show of question images that pop() and push() through an image array based on student responses. If the student answers correctly the question is popped, but if they answer incorrectly it is added to the end of the queue. Additionally, since deleting elements in the DOM is bad, I am replacing the current image's src and id with that of the next element in queue. The array is then popped and pushed along, but whenever I enter in the incorrect answer twice the same image appears.
I have moved the global variable that holds the array, domEls, inside of the function retrieveAnsForImage to force it to randomize the images in the array. When I do this, the images change correctly so I believe it is the push() and pop() commands.
I included a snippet that doesn't work here, but works like a champ in Notepad ++. I just took a crash course in Javascript, HTML and CSS last month on Codecademy, I am very new to this. Thank you for reading.

Your issue is that pop removes the last element from the array while push adds the element to end of the array.
What you probably want to do is use shift to remove the the first element from the array and pop it back to the end if the answer is wrong.
Alternately, you could pop the last element and use unshift to insert back into the beginning of you want to work in the other direction.
Here's a quick mockup without images.
var currentTest = null;
function getTest() {
$('#answer').html("").hide();
if (tests.length > 0) {
currentTest = tests.shift(); // remove the first question
$('#question').fadeIn(450).html(currentTest.q);
return currentTest;
} else {
$('#answer').html("Finished").fadeIn(500);
$('#btnCorrect').unbind();
$('#btnWrong').unbind();
}
}
var tests = [];
for (var i = 0; i < 5; i++) {
var question = "Question " + i;
var answer = "Answer " + i;
tests.push({
q: question,
a: answer
});
}
$('#btnCorrect').click(function() {
$('#question').hide();
$('#answer').fadeIn(450).html("Correct!");
window.setTimeout(getTest, 750);
});
$('#btnWrong').click(function() {
$('#question').hide();
tests.push(currentTest); // put the question back in the array
$('#answer').fadeIn(450).html("Incorrect!");
window.setTimeout(getTest, 750);
});
$(document).ready(function() {
getTest();
})
