I am getting the below error when loading my page.
Error: initialize is not defined
#http://localhost:8082/js/vendor/jquery-1.11.2.js line 339 > eval:4:3
I want to replace the jqLite with the full version of jquery. I have read several stackoverflow questions on this subject and they imply that all that is required is to load jquery before angularjs. I have done this by simply moving the declaration for jquery above the angular.js. When I do this that is when the above error occurs. It does not give the error when I move the jquery below angularjs but then I cannot use such things as angular.element.
What am I doing wrong?
As far as loading the javascript for each library all I am doing is.
<script type='text/javascript' src="js/vendor/jquery-1.11.2.js"></script>
<script type='text/javascript' src="js/vendor/angular.js"></script>
as far as using jquery instead of lqlite, I am simply trying to use angular.element
var someElement = angular.element('#someelement');
I read a blurb to load jquery before DOMContentLoaded. I am not sure how to do this. I know how to write an event handler for DOMContentLoaded, but what do I do then.
Edited answer: I usually inject my JS script code in the header all inside of an IFFE. You'd also have to make sure you have the ng-app in there to specify the module. Finally I've made sure I actually include the dependent code in the header before my code.
See fiddle here
<head>
<script src="https://code.jquery.com/jquery-1.11.2.min.js"></script>
<script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/angularjs/1.3.14/angular.js"></script>
<script>
(function() {
var testApp = angular.module("testApp", []);
function SomeController($scope) {
console.log('Started controller');
$scope.dirPanelElement = angular.element('#some-panel');
$scope.dirPanelElement.text('set test');
$scope.dirPanelElementText='got "'+$scope.dirPanelElement.text()+'" from panel'
}
testApp.controller("SomeController", SomeController);
})(); // IFFE
</script>
</head>
<body ng-app='testApp'>

<div data-ng-controller="SomeController">

I have made a webpage on Sharepoint with bootstrap and the content is populated with javascript. I am using popover in a table. The table is generated via javascript. The strange thing is that the popover works only after I made a refresh of the page/reloaded it with F5.
A popover outside of the table works fine and by first load. As well as the code runs fine without problems on my local machine, but on sharepoint it breaks down.
Here some code - initialization:
<script src="jquery-3.5.1.slim.min.js"></script>
<script src="popper.min.js"></script>
<script src="bootstrap.min.js"></script>
then the function for generating the table is called:
<body onload="javascript: GenerateTable();">
followed by the popper call:
$(function () {
$('.example-popover').popover({
})
})
The result is a table which contains the following line with the popper:
<td>Here is a question which needs a popper as info!
<div class="row justify-content-end">
Info
</div>
</td>
It seems to me like it an issue with the loading order - but can't figure out why it works locally but not on Sharepoint.
I import js from CDN, it works well in my environment.
Test code for your reference:
<link rel="stylesheet" href="https://cdn.staticfile.org/twitter-bootstrap/3.3.7/css/bootstrap.min.css">
<script src="https://cdn.staticfile.org/jquery/2.1.1/jquery.min.js"></script>
<script src="https://cdn.staticfile.org/twitter-bootstrap/3.3.7/js/bootstrap.min.js"></script>
<body >
<td>Here is a question which needs a popper as info!
<div class="row justify-content-end">
Info
</div>
</td>
</body>
<script>
$(function () {
$('.badge').popover();
})
</script>
Test result:
If you need further assistance,please share the full code.
The problem was the order of the javascript execution. As the code is loaded from an external javascript file the order how the code is loaded is not known.
Thus it is recommended to put the javascript function from the html file into an explicit function into the javascript file. Then the function has to be called explicitly.
Javascript File:
function PopperCall(){
$('.example-popover').popover({});
$('.popover-dismiss').popover({trigger: 'focus'});
$('[data-toggle="popover"]').popover();
}
In the HTML the loading is done by:
<body onload="javascript: GenerateTable(); PopperCall();">
Trying to get gist-embed (https://github.com/blairvanderhoof/gist-embed) working within my Angular app but with no luck.
It works no problem on my homepage (which is not part of the Angular app) but when I use something like:
<code data-gist-id="<gist-id>"></code>
within the app it won't show. There are no messages in the console to explain why though.
Could someone explain why and offer a solution?
(function($) {
$(function() {
// find all elements containing "data-gist-id" attribute.
$('[data-gist-id]').each(function() {
var $elem = $(this),
id,
that lib is coded in such a way one cant really use it in angular,you'll have to look for a fork that offers a proper jquery plugin architecture you can use into a directive.That lib doesnt respect basic jQuery plugin architecture.
And no Error will show up because it's likely the .each will execute before your angular app runs.
As of June (version 1.8), the gist-embed project is now a jQuery plugin.
var $code = $('<code data-gist-id="474f6d7839fccffc4b2a"/>');
$code.appendTo('body').gist();
Basically you have to trigger "gist()" on the dom elements.
Try this, it worked for me very well.
// register trigger gist on every template include
$rootScope.$on('$includeContentLoaded', function() {
// initialize gist on new elements
angular.element(document).ready(function() {
if (typeof(angular.element(document).gist) === 'function') {
angular.element('[data-gist-id]').gist();
}
});
});
I put together a small library hoping to solve the problem.
Check it out : https://github.com/pasupulaphani/angular-gist-embed
Chekout this angular module : https://github.com/kiran3807/another-angular-gist-embed
This allows you to include the gists in your angular project in the form of a directive, one of the attributes for which is the gist-id :
<html>
<head>
<script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/angularjs/1.5.6/angular.min.js"></script>
<script src="path/to/another-angular-gist-embed.js"></script>
<script>
angular.module('example',['another-angular-gist-embed']);
angular.module.controller('exampleCtrl',['$scope',function($scope){
$scope.gistId = 'a85770344febb8e30935';
}]);
</script>
</head>
</head>
<body ng-app="example">
<div ng-controller="exampleCtrl">
<!-- This loads a gist with a specific id-->
<gist-embed data-gist-id="gistId"></gist-embed>
</div>
</body>
</html>

I haven't used jQuery before, and I wanted to use DateTimePicker plugin on my web page.
I downloaded the plugin file and placed them in the same directory as the HTML files.
I directly applied the code at How to use it? in http://xdsoft.net/jqplugins/datetimepicker/.
It threw the following error.
Uncaught TypeError: undefined is not a function pixelcrawler:61 (anonymous function)
My code follows.
<script type='text/javascript' src="//ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/2.1.0/jquery.min.js"></script>
<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="file:///jquery.datetimepicker.css"/ >
<script src="file:///jquery.datetimepicker.js"></script>
<script>
jQuery('#datetimepicker').datetimepicker();
</script>
<div class="container">
<div class="text-center">
<div class="page-header">
<h1>${conf['title']} <small>${conf['description']}</small></h1>
</div>
</div>
<div class="text">
<input id="datetimepicker" type="text" >

.
I could not figure out what the problem was. I have tried many other seemingly likely options, but it just did not work either.
(The ${} tags are used for the Mako template language. I am using Cherrypy.)
UPDATE:
I figured out the source of the problem.
It's from jQuery('#datetimepicker').datetimepicker();.
When tested, the datetimepicker() function was undefined. Maybe the way I imported the library was wrong?
jQuery(document).ready(function(){
jQuery('#datetimepicker').datepicker();
})
I don't know your file-structure. I never include local files like this as I use relative URLs from the start rather than having to change everytime I'm ready to use the code, but it's likely one of the files isn't being loaded in. I've included the standard datepicker below using Google CDN's jQuery UI. Does your console log any resources not found?
I think your jQuery is loaded OK, because it's not telling you jQuery is not defined so it's one of your files.
BTW, PHP gets the home URL:
$home="http://" . $_SERVER['HTTP_HOST'].'/';
Demo code datepicker, jQuery UI:
<script src="//ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.11.0/jquery.min.js"></script>
<link rel="stylesheet" href="//ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jqueryui/1.10.4/themes/smoothness/jquery-ui.css" />
<script src="//ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jqueryui/1.10.4/jquery-ui.min.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript">
jQuery(document).ready(function(){
jQuery('#datetimepicker').datepicker();
})
</script>
<input id="datetimepicker" type="text">
This is about the HTML parse mechanism.
The HTML parser will parse the HTML content from top to bottom. In your script logic,
jQuery('#datetimepicker')
will return an empty instance because the element has not loaded yet.
You can use
$(function(){ your code here });
or
$(document).ready(function(){ your code here });
to parse HTML element firstly, and then do your own script logics.
use jQuery.noConflict()
var j = jQuery.noConflict();
j(document).ready(function(){
j('#datetimepicker').datepicker();
})
For my situation, it was a naming conflict problem. Adding $J solves it.
//Old code:
function () {
var extractionDialog;
extractionDialog = $j("#extractWindowDialog").dialog({
autoOpen: false,
appendTo: "form",
height: "100",
width: "250",
modal: true
});
$("extractBomInfoBtn").button().on("click", function () {
extractionDialog.dialog("open");
}
And the following is new code.
$j(function () {
var extractionDialog;
extractionDialog = $j("#extractWindowDialog").dialog({
autoOpen: false,
appendTo: "form",
height: "100",
width: "250",
modal: true
});
$j("extractBomInfoBtn").button().on("click", function () {
extractionDialog.dialog("open");
});
});
Hope it could help someone.
Usually when you get this problem, it happens because a script is trying to reference an element that doesn't exist yet while the page is loading.
As richie mentioned: "The HTML parser will parse the HTML content from top to bottom..."
So you can add your JavaScript references to the bottom of the HTML file. This will not only improve performance; it will also ensure that all elements referenced in your script files have already been loaded by the HTML parser.
So you could have something like this:
<html>
<head>
<!-- Style sheet references and CSS definitions -->
</head>
<body>
<!-- HTML markup and other page content -->
<!-- JavaScript references. You could include jQuery here as well and do all your scripting here. -->
</body>
</html>
You may see if you are not loading jQuery twice somehow. Especially after your plugin JavaScript file loaded.
I has the same error and found that one of my external PHP files was loading jQuery again.
The issue because of not loading jquery ui library.
https://code.jquery.com/ui/1.11.4/jquery-ui.js - CDN source file
Call above path in your file.
And if you have this problem in slider or slideshow you must use jquery.easing.1.3:
<script src="http://gsgd.co.uk/sandbox/jquery/easing/jquery.easing.1.3.js"></script>
I had trouble getting selectable to work with ASP.NET. It turns out I wasn't properly including everything, but this gentleman made it foolproof: Three steps to use jQuery UI in ASP.NET MVC 5.
I don't think jQuery itself includes datetimepicker. You must use jQuery UI instead (src="jquery.ui").
I'm very new to JavaScript (just started a few hours ago and trying to get a script working). I went through a few tutorials on W3 and the 'hello world' code works when I paste it directly into my HTML but I'm having a problem with a script (I've had problems with other scripts as well but I am not sure what I'm doing wrong).
I have this code that I want to test in my HTML, I copied the HTML in and it looks the same then I made a file in my static folder called edit.js and copied the JavaScript into it (exactly as shown). It didn't work no errors on the page but when I click it nothing happens. I tried to paste a W3 'hello world' code in and that worked but this script does not.
I tried to inspect the code in Chrome and that's where I see the above error (under the resources tab). I can open the js file using Chrome which makes me think the js file is accessible and pointing correctly but I'm not sure how to get it working. I'm using Jinja2 as my template engine to render the HTML and in my header I have:
<script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript" src="static/edit.js"></script>
and in my main template (the one that gets rendered on all pages) I have:
<script language="JavaScript" src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.7.2/jquery.min.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
edit.js:
(even putting it within the script tag directly on the page I want to use it on doesn't work)
$('#editvalue').click(function(e){$('#storedvalue').hide();$('#altervalue').show();});
$('#savevalue').click(function(e){
var showNew = $('#changevalue').val();
$('#altervalue').hide();
$('#storedvalue').show();
$('#storedvalue span').text(showNew);
});
HTML:
(it's embedded in a larger page)
<head>
<script language="JavaScript" src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.7.2/jquery.min.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
<script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript" src="static/edit.js"></script>
</head>
... my html code..
<div id="wrapper">
<div id="container">
<div id="storedvalue"><span>Hello</span> [edit]</div>
<div id="altervalue" style="display:none;"><input type="text" name="changevalue" id="changevalue" value="Hello"> [save]</div>
</div>
</div>
I have never been able to successfully run a JavaScript that wasn't on W3 yet. I get the same problem with other scripts even though I see people online saying they work fine for them. Do I need to do anything extra to make this work?
My two questions are:
What am I doing wrong?
Because Javascript seems to just not work when there's a problem, is there a way to get errors or information on what's actually wrong?
I read Uncaught ReferenceError: $ is not defined? and have been trying to figure this out for the last hour and can't see my problem.
First you need to place the jQuery script tag first.
Second, you need to do one of the following things:
Put your code within this function:
$(document).ready(function(){/*CODE HERE*/});
Or like this:
$(function(){
/*CODE HERE*/
});
The DOM needs to be ready before you can use it. Placing your code within anonymous functions that are executed on the ready event of the DOM is how you can do this.
Edit:
$(function(){
$('#editvalue').click(function(e){$('#storedvalue').hide();$('#altervalue').show();});
$('#savevalue').click(function(e){
var showNew = $('#changevalue').val();
$('#altervalue').hide();
$('#storedvalue').show();
$('#storedvalue span').text(showNew);
});
});
<script src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.7.2/jquery.min.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
Script tag for jQuery should come before your custom javascript.
Follow by edit.js
<script type="text/javascript" src="static/edit.js"></script>
Try removing the language attribute..sometimes work for me. It's obsolete now .. i think
You need to include jquery before you can use it.
I've been sifting around the web trying to find out whats going on here and I have not been able to get a concrete answer.
I have one $(document).ready on my site that seams to run multiple times regardless of the code that is inside it.
I've read up on the bug reports for jQuery about how the .ready event will fire twice if you have an exception that occurs within your statement. However even when I have the following code it still runs twice:
$(document).ready(function() {
try{
console.log('ready');
}
catch(e){
console.log(e);
}
});
In the console all I see is "ready" logged twice. Is it possible that another .ready with an exception in it would cause an issue? My understanding was that all .ready tags were independent of each other, but I cannot seem to find where this is coming into play?
Here is the head block for the site:
<head>
<title>${path.title}</title>
<meta name="Description" content="${path.description}" />
<link href="${cssHost}${path.pathCss}" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" />
<script src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.7.1/jquery.min.js" type="text/javascript" charset="utf-8"><!----></script>
<script src="media/js/fancybox/jquery.fancybox.pack.js" type="text/javascript" ><!-- --></script>
<script src="/media/es/jobsite/js/landing.js" type="text/javascript" ><!-- --></script>
<script src="/media/es/jobsite/js/functions.js" type="text/javascript"><!-- --> </script>
<script src="/media/es/jobsite/js/jobParsing.js" type="text/javascript" charset="utf-8"><!----></script>
<script src="/media/es/jobsite/js/queryNormilization.js" type="text/javascript" charset="utf-8"><!----></script>
<script src="${jsHost}/js/jquery/jquery.metadata.js" type="text/javascript" charset="utf-8"><!----></script>
<script src="${jsHost}/js/jquery/jquery.form.js" type="text/javascript" charset="utf-8"><!----></script>
<script src="http://ajax.aspnetcdn.com/ajax/jquery.validate/1.7/jquery.validate.min.js" type="text/javascript" charset="utf-8"><!----></script>
<script src="${jsHost}/js/jquery.i18n.properties-min.js" type="text/javascript" charset="utf-8"><!----></script>
<script type="text/javascript" charset="utf-8">
function updateBannerLink() {
var s4 = location.hash.substring(1);
$("#banner").attr('href','http://INTELATRACKING.ORG/?a=12240&c=29258&s4='+s4+'&s5=^');
}
</script>
</head>
Pay no attention to the JSP variables, but as you can see i'm only calling the functions.js file once (which is where the .ready function exists)
The ready event cannot fire twice. What is more than likely happening is you have code that is moving or manipulating the element that the code is contained within which causes the browser to re-execute the script block.
This can be avoided by including script tags in the <head> or before the closing </body> tag and not using $('body').wrapInner();. using $('body').html($('body').html().replace(...)); has the same effect.
It happened to me also, but I realized that the script had been included twice because of a bad merge.
This happened to me when using KendoUI... invoking a popup window would cause the document.ready event to fire multiple times. The easy solution is to set a global flag so that it only runs once:
var pageInitialized = false;
$(function()
{
if(pageInitialized) return;
pageInitialized = true;
// Put your init logic here.
});
It's sort of hack-ish, but it works.
Make sure you don't include JS file twice. That was my case
You might consider to use
window.onload
instead of
$(document).ready
try putting this in your functions.js to prevent it from being executed twice :
var checkit = window.check_var;
if(checkit === undefined){ //file never entered. the global var was not set.
window.check_var = 1;
}
else {
//your functions.js content
}
however i suggest that you look more into it to see where are you calling the second time.
I had a similar problem when I was trying to refresh a partial. I called a return ActionResult instead of a return PartialViewResult. The ActionResult caused my ready() to run twice.
There is a possibility to encounter this problem when you add same controller twice in the html.
For an instance:
[js]
app.controller('AppCtrl', function ($scope) {
$(document).ready(function () {
alert("Hello");
//this will call twice
});
});
[html]
//controller mentioned for the first time
<md-content ng-controller="AppCtrl">
//some thing
</md-content>
//same controller mentioned again
<md-content ng-controller="AppCtrl">
//some thing
</md-content>
I had a similar issue today. A <button type="submit"> caused the $(document).ready(...) event to fire again in my case. Changing the code to <button type="button"> solved the issue for me.
See document.ready function called again after submit button? here on stackoverflow for more details.
In my case $(document).ready was firing twice because of bad CSS, check if any part of your CSS has background-image: url('');
If the iframe doesnt show anything and is used for other reasons (like uploading a file without reload) you can do something like this :
<iframe id="upload_target" name="upload_target" style="width:0;height:0;border:0px solid #fff;"></iframe>
Notice that src is not included that prevents the second on ready trigger on the document.
I had this problem with window.load function was executed twice:
The reason was because I had reference to the same javascript-file in the main page as well as a .net usercontrol. When I removed the reference in the main page, the load-function was only executed once.
I had this happen to me this morning... and what I discovered after closely examining some html code in a jquery modal form that I had recently manipulated, that I'd accidentally removed a closing table tag. I haven't taken the time yet to fully understand why that caused the document.ready function to be called twice, but it did. Adding the closing table tag fixed this issue.
jQuery JavaScript Library v1.8.3 (yes, it is a legacy app)
My problem was that I had tags referencing my JS file in both my index.cshtml file AND my _Layout.cshtml. This was causing the document.ready function to fire twice, which was causing DataTables to bomb.
