I am trying to learn web programming and Javascript.
I'm trying to take whatever the user copied from an Excel spreadsheet and create a JavaScript spreadsheet/table that includes dropdowns out of it.
So basically the user would paste the input into a blank field, press the submit button, and JavaScript would generate an Excel-like spreadsheet which would have the data sorted accordingly. The dropdowns would be at the top of each column and allow the user to select either ready/not ready. This is being designed for a confluence WIKI page.
This is what I have so far, right now the code parses the input-field and creates a multi-dimensional array. After that, the array will be logged on the console. I need help getting everything displayed on the wiki page.
<html>
<head>
<script src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.11.2/jquery.min.js"></script>
</head>
<body>
<textarea id="textarea"></textarea>
<button id="loadPaste">parse</button>
<script type="text/javascript">
var excel = new Array();
$(document).ready(function() {
$('#loadPaste').click(function() {
var text = $('#textarea').val();
var rows = text.split("\n");
for (var i = 0; i < rows.length; i++) {
excel[i] = rows[i].split("\t");
}
console.log(excel);
});
});
</script>
</body>
</html>
Lets close this one: //THIS IS #Downgoat response with little explanation about xml parser.
use an xml parser var xml = (new DOMParser()).parseFromString($('#textarea').val(), 'text/xml')
var text, parser, xmlDoc;
text = "<bookstore><book>" +
"<title>Everyday Italian</title>" +
"<author>Giada De Laurentiis</author>" +
"<year>2005</year>" +
"</book></bookstore>";
parser = new DOMParser();
xmlDoc = parser.parseFromString(text,"text/xml");
document.getElementById("demo").innerHTML =
xmlDoc.getElementsByTagName("title")[0].childNodes[0].nodeValue;
<html>
<body>

I have a google sheet, I want to prompt a user to select ranges to get information from, store that into an array, and then create a chart in an html popup. I have read a bit about the google.script.run functionality, and understand that without the withSuccessHandler(HTMLFunction).FunctionToCall() syntax at the end, the HTML script moves onto the next line. I have a .gs file below, and an .html file, and I was able to get the graph to work when I just entered a static array in my .gs function. However, I seem to be struggling with how to return focus to the editor to get a range, and then to bring the HTML dialog box with the chart back up and get the right data to the function that plots the chart. I saw here that I could use the google.script.host to call the editor.focus() function so the user can now select cells, but I can't seem to get the focus back to the HTML popup without calling the HTML file all over again. Here is my .gs function:
function RetrieveData(){
var ss = SpreadsheetApp.getActive();
var sheets = ss.getSheets();
var s = sheets[1];
var UI = SpreadsheetApp.getUi();
var response = UI.prompt("Please enter the first cell in the category").getResponseText();
var ir = s.getRange(response);
var n= 0;
var stored = [];
stored.push(["Income Category", "Frequency"]);
while (ir.getValue()!= "") {
n = n +1;
ir = ir.offset(1, 0);
}
ir = ir.offset(-n,0)
for(i =0; i<n;i++) {
stored.push([ir.getValue(),ir.offset(n+2,0).getValue()]);
ir = ir.offset(1, 0);
}
return stored;
}
Here is my html that is within the body (Stack Overflow is a little strict, so I am not going to go through the trouble of showing all the HTML; this is just within the body and it is what is communicating with the .gs file):
google.charts.load('current', {'packages':['corechart']});
google.charts.setOnLoadCallback(getdata);
function getdata() {
google.script.run.withSuccessHandler(drawChart).RetrieveData();
google.script.host.editor.focus();
}
function drawChart(stored) {
//This apparently shows a log of the object
//console.log(stored);
var data = new google.visualization.arrayToDataTable(stored);
console.log(data);
var options = {'title':'Income',
'width':400,
'height':300,
'is3d':true};
// Instantiate and draw our chart, passing in some options.
var chart = new google.visualization.PieChart(document.getElementById('chart_div'));
chart.draw(data, options);
google.script.run.withSuccessHandler(drawChart).RetrieveData();
}
One last thing I tried was to call the
SpreadsheetApp.getUi().showModalDialog(html, "Title") function one more time, but without calling the html file all over again, and creating an endless loop, I don't seem to have a way to do that. Any idea how to accomplish this?
Here's a simple example of picking a range with a modeless dialog. With just a few extra features thrown in for good measure.
Code.gs:
function selRange()//run this to get everything started. A dialog will be displayed that instructs you to select a range.
{
var output=HtmlService.createHtmlOutputFromFile('pickRange').setWidth(300).setHeight(200).setTitle('Select A Range');
SpreadsheetApp.getUi().showModelessDialog(output, 'Range Selector');
}
function selCurRng()
{
var sso=SpreadsheetApp.getActive();
var sh0=sso.getActiveSheet();
var rg0=sh0.getActiveRange();
var rng0A1=rg0.getA1Notation();
rg0.setBackground('#777700');
return rng0A1;
}
function clrRange(range)
{
var sso=SpreadsheetApp.getActive();
var sh0=sso.getActiveSheet();
var rg0=sh0.getRange(range);
rg0.setBackground('#ffffff');
}
pickRange.html

<base target="_top">
<script src="//ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.9.1/jquery.min.js"></script>
<script>
var grange='';
function selectRange()
{
$('#btn1').prop('disabled',true);
$('#btn2').prop('disabled',false);
google.script.run
.withSuccessHandler(setResponse)
.selCurRng();
}
function setResponse(r)
{
grange=r;
var msg='You have select the range ' + r;
$('#instr').css('display','none');
$('#rsp').text(msg);
}
function clearAndClose()
{
google.script.run.clrRange(grange);
google.script.host.close();
}
console.log('My Code');
</script>
</head>

<div id="rsp"></div>
<div id="instr">Please select your desired range.</div>

I have an XLS file with data in it.
The excel file has a lot of reference in one column, so I want the user to type the reference then the web page search for the reference and show the data in the line found.
I can't use a server, so I want to do it without PHP or things like that.
Is it possible ? How can I do that ?
Thanks
Here is the sample of js-xlsx, and will return all values in all worksheets as JSON object, you may need to modify by your usage.
<html>
<script src="xlsx.core.min.js"></script>
<head></head>
<body>
</body>
<script type ="text/javascript">
"use strict";
var X = XLSX;
function convertFile(b64data) {
var wb = X.read(b64data, {type: 'base64',WTF: false});
var result = {};
wb.SheetNames.forEach(function(sheetName) {
var roa = X.utils.sheet_to_row_object_array(wb.Sheets[sheetName]);
if(roa.length > 0){
result[sheetName] = roa;
}
});
return JSON.stringify(result, 2, 2);
}
</script>
</html>
More option (by upload file, drag and drop option), you can study the source code of js-xlsx example: http://oss.sheetjs.com/js-xlsx/
You don't need PHP but at least Javascript.
You can do it like this:
var excel = new ActiveXObject("Excel.Application");
var wb = excel.Workbooks.Open("Path/to/your/excel/file.xls");
var ws = wb.ActiveSheet;
var cell = ws.Cells.Find("your search input");
alert(cell.Row);
excel.Quit();
I hope i could help you;)
I'm trying to get the html of www.soccerway.com. In particular this:
that have the label-wrapper class I also tried with: select.nav-select but I can't get any content. What I did is:
1) Created a php filed called grabber.php, this file have this code:
<?php echo file_get_contents($_GET['url']); ?>
2) Created a index.html file with this content:
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<head>
<script src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1/jquery.min.js"></script>
<meta charset=utf-8 />
<title>test</title>
</head>
<body>
<div id="response"></div>
</body>
<script>
$(function(){
var contentURI= 'http://soccerway.com';
$('#response').load('grabber.php?url='+ encodeURIComponent(contentURI) + ' #label-wrapper');
});
var LI = document.querySelectorAll(".list li");
var result = {};
for(var i=0; i<LI.length; i++){
var el = LI[i];
var elData = el.dataset.value;
if(elData) result[el.innerHTML] = elData; // Only if element has data-value attr
}
console.log( result );
</script>
</html>
in the div there is no content grabbed, I tested my js code for get all the link and working but I've inserted the html page manually.
I see a couple issues here.
var contentURI= 'http:/soccerway.com #label-wrapper';
You're missing the second slash in http://, and you're passing a URL with a space and an ID to file_get_contents. You'll want this instead:
var contentURI = 'http://soccerway.com/';
and then you'll need to parse out the item you're interested in from the resulting HTML.
The #label-wrapper needs to be in the jQuery load() call, not the file_get_contents, and the contentURI variable needs to be properly escaped with encodeURIComponent:
$('#response').load('grabber.php?url='+ encodeURIComponent(contentURI) + ' #label-wrapper');
Your code also contains a massive vulnerability that's potentially very dangerous, as it allows anyone to access grabber.php with a url value that's a file location on your server. This could compromise your database password or other sensitive data on the server.
We are working with the facebook api and have stored the data retrieved in a JSON format into an array. We would like to display this information in a different HTML page but are unable to do so, please help regarding this?
<p id="demo"></p>
<script> var str=""; var names1 = new Array(); //creating names1 array
getFriendsList = function() { //calling from another function
FB.api('me/taggable_friends', function(response) {
for (var i = 0; i <= response.data.length; i++) {
names1.push(response.data[i].name); str=str+"<br>"+"<br>"+names1[i]; //appending thenames to str
document.getElementById("demo").innerHTML = str;//displaying the element in the html page.
}
});
} </script>
I am still a little confused by your question, but I am assuming that you want to know how to display the elements from an array onto your HTML page.
If this isn't what you are asking, then just expand on your question and I will see how I can help.
Explanation for code below
You are accessing your JavaScript file in your HTML by adding the <script type="text/javascript" src="app.js"></script> reference.
The JavaScript is creating a simple array called myArray. We then loop through our array and display content using the document.write(...); line.
HTML
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<head>
<script type="text/javascript" src="app.js"></script>
</head>
<body>
</body>
</html>
JavaScript
var myArray = [1, 2, 3];
// for each loop
for (var i in myArray) {
document.write(myArray[i]);
}
I need to POST form values from one page to another using Javascript.
Now, I know that I could use a server-side technology like ASP.Net or PHP to post values but I am not allowed to use any server side script.
I am aware that using the GET method, I can pass the form values as a query string but the values will not be passed securely (which is an important requirement!)
The conditions listed below:
This code should take the values that are posted to the page and
repost to target page. HTTP POST only (not get).
In no cases, even error, the request should not stop on this bridge page.
The script needs to handle multiple posted values.
Try to use standard javascript (no 3rd party library)
Script needs to work in IE, FF, Safari, most standard browsers
Can anyone please help me find a solution to this or point me to some resource that will help me find the soln? Thanks in advance. Below is the code for passing values as a query string. Can I modify this so that my above requirements are satisfied?
FORM
<html>
<head>
<title>Test</title>
<script type="text/javascript">
function goto_page(page) {
var usbnum = document.getElementById('usbnum').value;
var usbcode = document.getElementById('usbcode').value;
var q_str = '?usbnum=' + usbnum + '&usbcode=' + usbcode;
var url = page + q_str;
window.location = url;
}
</script>
</head>
<form id="form1" method="post">
<div>
USB No: <input name="usbnum" id="usbnum" type="text" size="80" /><br />
USB Code: <input name="usbcode" id="usbcode" type="text" size="80"/>
</div>
Next
</form>
</body>
</html>
BRIDGE PAGE
<html>
<head>
<title>Bridge Page</title>
<script type="text/javascript">
function get_params() {
var url = window.location.href;
var q_str_part = url.match(/\?(.+)$/)[1];
var val_pairs = q_str_part.split('&');
var params = {};
for (var i = 0; i < val_pairs.length; i++) {
var tmp = val_pairs[i].split('=');
params[tmp[0]] = typeof tmp[1] != 'undefined' ? tmp[1] : '';
}
return params;
}
function write_params() {
var params = get_params();
var txt = 'Hello ';
for (var i in params) {
txt += params[i] + ' ';
}
var body = document.getElementsByTagName('body')[0];
body.innerHTML += txt;
}
function write_params() {
var params = get_params();
var num_container = document.getElementById('usbnum');
var code_container = document.getElementById('usbcode');
num_container.innerHTML = params.usbnum;
code_container.innerHTML = params.usbcode;
}
</script>
</head>
<body onLoad="write_params()">
</body>
</html>
POST data can only be handled by server side code. There is no way you can use them in your javascript without help from a server side code.
You can only use GET or you can think about cookies. But at other hand, why do you want to change current page?! you can use AJAX to load more data without refreshing and no need of posting or getting variables.
