jQuery $.ajax succeed but serv doesn't receive any data - javascript

I work on a pagination system that wouldn't reload the whole page but just refresh the contents.
I retrieve the requested page with the value contained in a ID and want to send it to the server for the process.
The success is reached but my php script does not recognize the $_POST['page'] value.
Here is the JS:
$(document).ready(function()
{
$('#containerWrapper').on('click', '.holder a', function (event) {
var page = $(this).attr('id');
var url = "cart.php";
event.preventDefault();
// Launch of the Ajax query to refresh the current page
$.ajax({
url: "cart.php",
type: "POST",
data: {page: page},
success: function()
{
alert('Success, delivered page: ' + page);
$('#containerWrapper').load(url + " #containerWrapper");
}
});
});
});
Here the PHP, which i think isn't the real problem:
if (isset($_POST['page']) && ($_POST['page'])>0 && ($_POST['page'])<= $nbPages)
{
$cPage = htmlspecialchars($_POST['page']);
}
I've ready many topics but haven't found any relative problem for the now.

You really have too much code, it is not necessary for your purposes to bury a load() statement in an AJAX call. You could simply do this -
$(document).ready(function(){
$('#containerWrapper').on('click', '.holder a', function (event) {
event.preventDefault();
var url = "cart.php";
var page = $(this).attr('id');
$('#containerWrapper').load(url + " #containerWrapper", {page: page});
});
});
load() does allow you to send data to the requested page via a second arguement.

POST output into a modal from any form class on page

Sorry I am a beginner with jQuery and Javascript. I want to be able to get the results into my modal from any form on the page that has class ajax. My code is below but not working correctly. Currently it opens the post result in a new page and not in the modal. Can anyone shed any light on my code?
Many thanks
$(document).ready(function() {
$('.ajax').click(function() {
var that = $(this),
url = that.attr('action'),
type = that.attr('method'),
data = {};
that.find('name').each(function(index, value) {
var that = $(this),
name = that.attr('name'),
value = that.val();
data[name] = value;
});
console.log(value);
// AJAX request
$.ajax({
url: url,
type: type,
data: data,
success: function(response){
// Add response in Modal body
$('.modal-body').html(response);
// Display Modal
$('#aaModal').modal('show');
}
});
});
});
This probably happens because your browser submits the form by default. It doesnt know youre doing AJAX stuff. To prevent this, use preventDefault().
In addition to that, jQuery has a built in function for serializing (1 and 2) form data.
$(document).ready(function() {
$('form.ajax').click(function(event) {
event.preventDefault(); // prevents opening the form action url
var $form = $(this),
url = $form.attr('action'),
type = $form.attr('method'),
data = $form.serialize();
// console.log(value); // value doesnt exist outside of your loop btw
// AJAX request
$.ajax({
url: url,
type: type,
data: data,
success: function(response){
// Add response in Modal body
$('.modal-body').html(response);
// Display Modal
$('#aaModal').modal('show');
}
});
});
});
Also, its not quite clear if you bind the click event handler to a form or a button, I guess the first one. You should change the handler to the following:
$(document).ready(function() {
$('form.ajax').on('submit', function(event) {

AJAX won't load new page content without page refresh

I executed an AJAX request to load content into my page. Here's the function I created for this request:
function displayForums() {
var session = "<?php echo $_SESSION['id'] ?>";
$.ajax({
url: 'includes/threads/display_forums.php',
data: 'POST',
data: {session: session},
success: function(data) {
console.log("display successful");
$(data).appendTo("#forums-container");
}
});
}
Then, I call this function I just declared (displayForums()) when the document loads:
$(document).ready(function() {
displayForums();
});
Finally, I have an AJAX call that submits user input from a form into a database.
$("#start-thread-form").on("submit", function(e) {
e.preventDefault();
var forum_title = $("#start-thread-form input").val();
var forum_message = $("#start-thread-form textarea").val();
var id = "<?php echo $_SESSION['id'] ?>";
$.ajax({
url: 'includes/threads/insert_forums.php',
type: 'POST',
data: {forum_title: forum_title, forum_message: forum_message, id: id},
success: function(data) {
console.log(data);
$(".success-msg").append("Thread created successfully" + "<br>").show();
setTimeout(function() {
$(".success-msg").hide();
$(".success-msg").text('');
}, 2000);
$('input[type="text"],textarea').val('');
displayForums();
},
error: function(requestObject, error, errorThrown) {
console.log(error);
console.log(errorThrown);
}
});
});
The problem is that when the AJAX call that inserts data into the database completes, the original AJAX call doesn't load the new data into the page unless I refresh the page. I tried placing the displayForums() function inside of the success function, but it didn't work. How can I adjust the AJAX calls to load the newly inserted data without refreshing the page?
You run your JavaScript when the submit event of a form fires.
The default behaviour of a form submission is to make an HTTP request to the action and load the response as a new page.
If you don't want the form to submit, then you have to stop it.
$("#start-thread-form").on("submit", function(event) {
event.preventDefault();
$(document).ready(displayForums());
this is WRONG, it should be:
$(document).ready(function() { displayForums() });

AJAX post method working in one area but not another

I have an AJAX post method that works in two places both on "Ladder" page, but not another, a "matches" page. This method sets posts the "player ID" which php picks up and sets a session variable
$("form .singles-player-name").click(function (evt) {
evt.preventDefault();
var viewPlayer = $(this).val();
console.log(viewPlayer);
$.ajax({
url: '',
type: 'POST',
data: {
viewPlayerID: viewPlayer
}
}).done(function (data) {
console.log("Success");
//console.log(data);
window.location.href = "Player";
});
});
Working page form:
<form><button type='submit' id='playerInfo' class='singles-player-name' name='viewPlayer' value='",$sglsPlayerID,"'>", $curSGLSRankLName, ", ", $curSGLSRankFName, "</button></form>
Sets session variable
if (!empty($_POST['viewPlayerID'])){
$viewPlayer = isset($_POST['viewPlayerID']) ? $_POST['viewPlayerID'] : 'No data found';
$viewPlayerSql = "SELECT * FROM `PLAYERS` WHERE `ID` LIKE '".$viewPlayer."'";
$viewPlayerQuery = #$conn->query($viewPlayerSql);
$viewPlayerRow=mysqli_fetch_assoc($viewPlayerQuery);
$_SESSION['playerID'] = $viewPlayerRow["ID"];
echo "", $_SESSION['playerID'],"";}
Second working version that lives on the same page as the first but is for doubles players:
$("form .doubles-player-name").click(function (evt) {
evt.preventDefault();
var viewPlayer = $(this).val();
console.log(viewPlayer);
$.ajax({
url: '',
type: 'POST',
data: {
viewPlayerID: viewPlayer
}
}).done(function (data) {
console.log("Success");
//console.log(data);
window.location.href = "Player";
});
});
Form for that ajax method:
<form><button type='submit' id='playerInfo' class='doubles-player-name' name='viewPlayer' value='",$dblsPlayerID,"'>", $curDBLSRankLName, ", ", $curDBLSRankFName, "</button></form>
Then on complete, the ajax methods redirect to the player page and pulls up that players info on that page (ex. https://urlexample.com/Player). This part, from this point-up, works! However, I have another page, the "Matches" page, where I want it to do the same exact thing, and set that session variable, then redirect to the player page, so I have this method below. But for some reason, this one does not work:
$("form .singlesMatch-player1-name").click(function (evt) {
evt.preventDefault();
var viewPlayer = $(this).val();
console.log(viewPlayer);
$.ajax({
url: '',
type: 'POST',
data: {
viewPlayerID: viewPlayer
}
}).done(function (data) {
console.log("Success");
console.log(data);
window.location.href = "Player";
});
});
Not working form:
<form><button type='submit' id='playerInfo' class='singlesMatch-player1-name' name='viewPlayer' value='",$sglsPlayer1ID,"'>", $P1LN, ", ", $P1FN, "</button></form>
For some reason, all this second method does is post it to the URL (ex. https://urlexample.com/WeeklyMatchUps?viewPlayer=1) instead of setting the session variable and redirecting to the player page (ex. https://urlexample.com/Player). All thats different between the 2 is the class name of the button.
$sglsPlayer1ID should probably be $sglsPlayerID.
Also, try adding a success and error condition to your AJAX conditions instead of just using a done operator. This will allow you to dump helpful error codes on a failure to better resolve these kinds of issues in the future.
I had a function being called on the page that was commented out causing an error before jQuery was added in a script at the bottom of the page. removing that function from being called fixed the issue.
S/O to #line88 for the assistance!

Calling Javascript Functions In Order

I'm trying to use a button to perform an API Call to Flickr, like so:
$(document).ready(function (){
$('#goButton').click(function (){
makeAPICall();
});
});
This works as expected, but the communication between the client and the Flickr API takes a while to execute, so the page appears like it is hung. I would like to add a "Working Notice" that is displayed immediately on button click to let the user know that their action is processing.
To do this, I added an H1 tag:
<h1 id="notice"></h1>
and a function that changes the inner HTML to display a notice:
function workingNotice() {
document.getElementById("notice").innerHTML="I am getting your results";
}
But when I try to edit the code for the button to something like this:
$(document).ready(function (){
$('#goButton').click(function (){
workingNotice();
makeAPICall();
});
})
The Working Notice is never displayed until the API Call has completed, which defeats the purpose.
I then tried using:
$(document).ready(function (){
$('#goButton').click(function (){
$.when(
workingNotice()
).then(
makeAPICall()
);
});
})
This gives the exact same results, where the Working Notice is not called until the API Call completes. Is there any alternative that I can try to force the order of these functions to comply?
UPDATE/EDIT:
While I found the solution to the initial problem in another answer, I know there's a reasonable chance the delay in the API Call processing is due to some mistake in this function. Here is the code for makeAPICall:
//call Flickr api and look for tags matching user search term
function makeAPICall(){
//get value tag from team 1 search box
var searchTag1 = escape(document.getElementById("searchTag1").value);
//get value tag from team 2 search box
var searchTag2 = escape(document.getElementById("searchTag2").value);
//build api call url with searchTag1
var url1 = "http://api.flickr.com/services/rest/?"
+ "method=flickr.photos.search&api_key=XXX&tags="
+ searchTag1 + "&sort=interestingness-desc"
+ "&safe_search=1&has_geo=1&format=json&nojsoncallback=1";
//build api call url with searchTag1
var url2 = "http://api.flickr.com/services/rest/?"
+ "method=flickr.photos.search&api_key=XXX&tags="
+ searchTag2 + "&sort=interestingness-desc"
+ "&safe_search=1&has_geo=1&format=json&nojsoncallback=1";
//make call to flickr api
$.when(
$.ajax({
dataType: "json",
url: url1,
async: false,
success : function(callReturn1) {
callData1 = callReturn1;
numResults1 = parseInt(callData1.photos.total);
}
}),
$.ajax({
dataType: "json",
url: url2,
async: false,
success : function(callReturn2) {
callData2 = callReturn2;
numResults2 = parseInt(callData2.photos.total);
}
})
).then(
drawChart()
);
}
Note "callData1", "callData2", "numResults1" & "numResults2" are all global.
If your makeAPICall is not async - call it out of bounds:
workingNotice();
setTimeout(makeAPICall, 1);

ajax success callback not working

So I have this JavaScript which works fine up to the $.ajax({. Then it just hangs on the loader and nothing happens.
$(function() {
$('.com_submit').click(function() {
var comment = $("#comment").val();
var user_id = $("#user_id").val();
var perma_id = $("#perma_id").val();
var dataString = 'comment='+ comment + '&user_id='+ user_id + '&perma_id=' + perma_id;
if(comment=='') {
alert('Please Give Valid Details');
}
else {
$("#flash").show();
$("#flash").fadeIn(400).html('<img src="ajax-loader.gif" />Loading Comment...');
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
url: "commentajax.php",
data: dataString,
cache: false,
success: function(html){
alert('This works');
$("ol#update").append(html);
$("ol#update li:first").fadeIn("slow");
$("#flash").hide();
}
});
}
return false;
});
});
Try replacing:
var dataString = 'comment='+ comment + '&user_id='+ user_id + '&perma_id=' + perma_id;
with:
var dataString = { comment: comment, user_id: user_id, perma_id: perma_id };
in order to ensure that the parameters that you are sending to the server are properly encoded. Also make sure that the commentajax.php script that you are calling works fine and it doesn't throw some error in which case the success handler won't be executed and the loader indicator won't be hidden. Actually the best way to hide the loading indicator is to use the complete event, not the success. The complete event is triggered even in the case of an exception.
Also use a javascript debugging tool such as FireBug to see what exactly happens under the covers. It will allow you to see the actual AJAX request and what does the the server respond. It will also tell you if you have javascript errors and so on: you know, the kinda useful stuff when you are doing javascript enabled web development.
