How To Remove Default Padding From Bootstrap Nav Bar - javascript

Bootstrap JS/CSS is appending transparent space to the bottom of a NavBar inside a <td> in my home page. This shows a live preview of the issue I'm having with the default bootstrap configuration of NavBars.
Here is a complete, (minus the inclusion of the bootstrap files) and minimal example of the code I wrote to create the NavBar.
<html>
<body>
<table align="center" border="1px"><tr>
<td>
<!-- Navigation -->
<nav class="navbar navbar-inverse navbar-static-top" role="navigation">
<div class="container">
<!-- Brand and toggle get grouped for better mobile display -->
<div class="navbar-header">
<button type="button" class="navbar-toggle" data-toggle="collapse"
data-target="#bs-example-navbar-collapse-1">
<span class="sr-only">Toggle navigation</span>
<span class="icon-bar"></span>
<span class="icon-bar"></span>
<span class="icon-bar"></span>
</button>
<a class="navbar-brand" href="index.html">Home</a>
</div>
<!-- Collect the nav links, forms, and other content for toggling -->
<div class="collapse navbar-collapse" id="bs-example-navbar-collapse-1">
<ul class="nav navbar-nav navbar-right">
<li>
About Us
</li>
<li>
Contact Us
</li>
<form class="navbar-form navbar-right" role="search">
<div class="form-group">
<input type="text" class="form-control" placeholder="Search">
</div>
<button type="submit" class="btn btn-default">Submit</button>
</form>
</ul>
</div>
<!-- /.navbar-collapse -->
</div>
<!-- /.container -->
</nav>
</td></tr>
</table>
</html>
Any help is appreciated.
Cheers.

You can update the css class "navbar" with updated margin.
.navbar { margin-bottom: 0 }
Fiddle: http://jsfiddle.net/kiranvarthi/jmJWr/24/

The cleanest solution for this is, when you export your boostrap version from here, just edit the #navbar-margin-bottom field, you should set it to 0px insted of #line-height-computed (default value).

How to Add Affix to Bootstrap Fixed Bottom Navbar

First of all, please be inform that I already know, we can add affix utility to all kind of regular navbar in Bootstrap, In my case ,however, I need to add the affix to a specifically navbar-fixed-bottom Navbar.
#import url("https://maxcdn.bootstrapcdn.com/bootstrap/3.3.7/css/bootstrap.min.css");
<script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/2.1.1/jquery.min.js"></script>
<script src="https://maxcdn.bootstrapcdn.com/bootstrap/3.3.7/js/bootstrap.min.js"></script>
<nav class="navbar navbar-inverse navbar-fixed-bottom">
<div class="container">
<!-- Brand and toggle get grouped for better mobile display -->
<div class="navbar-header">
<button type="button" class="navbar-toggle collapsed" data-toggle="collapse" data-target="#bs-example-navbar-collapse-1" aria-expanded="false">
<span class="sr-only">Toggle navigation</span>
<span class="icon-bar"></span>
<span class="icon-bar"></span>
<span class="icon-bar"></span>
</button>
<a class="navbar-brand" href="#">Brand</a>
</div>
<!-- Collect the nav links, forms, and other content for toggling -->
<div class="collapse navbar-collapse" id="bs-example-navbar-collapse-1">
<ul class="nav navbar-nav navbar-right">
<li>Link</li>
<li>Link</li>
<li>Link</li>
<li>Link</li>
<li>Link</li>
</ul>
</div><!-- /.navbar-collapse -->
</div><!-- /.container -->
</nav>
<div class="container" style="height:3000px;"></div>
The reson that I would like to do this is presenting the navbar at the bottom of viewport on page loading and on scroll down affix it to the top.
Can you please let me know if this is doable?
You need to add CSS to handle the navbar when affix is applied. In your case, that would be changing the navbar top:0; so that it no longer is fixed to the botttom.
.affix.navbar-fixed-bottom {
top: 0;
height: 50px;
}

Bootstrap navbar toggle use to add class

I use Bootstrap V3 in Wordpress.
What I want to achieve is that when someone clicks the button in the collapsed navbar menu, the div with the class .slider gets a extra class.
This is the HTML from the navbar:
<nav class="navbar navbar-default navbar-static-top">
<div class="container">
<div class="navbar-header">
<button type="button" class="navbar-toggle collapsed" data-toggle="collapse" data-target="#navbar">
<span class="sr-only">Toggle navigation</span>
<span class="icon-bar"></span>
<span class="icon-bar"></span>
<span class="icon-bar"></span>
</button>
</div>
<div class="collapse navbar-collapse" id="navbar">
<?php
wp_nav_menu( array(
'theme_location' => 'navbar-right',
'depth' => 2,
'menu_class' => 'nav navbar-nav navbar-right',
'fallback_cb' => 'wp_bootstrap_navwalker::fallback',
'walker' => new wp_bootstrap_navwalker())
);
?>
</div><!-- /.navbar-collapse -->
</div><!-- /.container -->
</nav>
And this is the HTML from the div where I want to add a extra class:
<div class="slider">
<div class="container">
<div class="row">
other elements
</div> <!-- close row -->
</div> <!-- close container -->
</div> <!-- close slider -->
I've tried this with CSS:
.navbar-default .navbar-collapse .in ~ .slider{
margin-top: -246px;
padding-top: 176px;
}
And this with jQuery:
$(function() {
$("#navbar").click(function() {
$(".slider").addClass("sliderMove");
});
});
The extra class that should be added on slider is:
.sliderMove{
margin-top: -246px;
padding-top: 176px;
}
The purpose of this is that the slider that is after/under the navbar stay's under the navbar when it collapsed.
You just need to hook into the Bootstrap collapse event of your collapsible navbar. There is no need to assign an extra click handler to the collapse nav button.
Collapse Events
Bootstrap's collapse class exposes a few events for hooking into collapse functionality.
Here is an example.
$('#bs-example-navbar-collapse-1').on('show.bs.collapse', function () {
$(".slider").addClass("your-class");
})
$('#bs-example-navbar-collapse-1').on('hide.bs.collapse', function () {
$(".slider").removeClass("your-class");
})
.slider {
width: 100%;
min-height: 100px;
background-color: tomato;
}
.your-class {
background-color: lawngreen;
}
<link href="https://maxcdn.bootstrapcdn.com/bootstrap/3.3.6/css/bootstrap.min.css" rel="stylesheet"/>
<nav class="navbar navbar-default">
<div class="container-fluid">
<!-- Brand and toggle get grouped for better mobile display -->
<div class="navbar-header">
<button type="button" class="navbar-toggle collapsed" data-toggle="collapse" data-target="#bs-example-navbar-collapse-1" aria-expanded="false">
<span class="sr-only">Toggle navigation</span>
<span class="icon-bar"></span>
<span class="icon-bar"></span>
<span class="icon-bar"></span>
</button>
<a class="navbar-brand" href="#">Brand</a>
</div>
<div class="collapse navbar-collapse" id="bs-example-navbar-collapse-1">
<ul class="nav navbar-nav">
<li>Link <span class="sr-only">(current)</span></li>
</ul>
</div>
</div>
</nav>
<div class="slider"></div>
<script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/2.1.0/jquery.min.js"></script>
<script src="https://maxcdn.bootstrapcdn.com/bootstrap/3.3.6/js/bootstrap.min.js"></script>
The button you are are willing to click is having a class navbar-toggle and the div having navbar has an id navbar . So to achieve the click event on button you have to use the button id not the div id. So your jQuery code will go like:
$('.navbar-toggle').click(function(){
if($('#navbar').hasClass('in')){
$(".slider").addClass("sliderMove");
}else{
$(".slider").removeClass("sliderMove");
}
});
As you would like to remove the class when you collapse the menu again using same button.
you were doing everything fine, but you need to use toggleClass() and select other CSS selector that is not #navbar
it also possible to add a delay? Because the class is already activated before the navbar is fully collapsed.
Yes it is possible, by adding setTimeout()
$(".collapsed").click(function() {
// toggle the class after half second
setTimeout(function() {
$(".slider").toggleClass("sliderMove");
}, 500);
});
/* just to show in small devices */
#media (max-width: 992px) {
.sliderMove {
background: red;
height: 100vh;
width: 100%
}
}
<script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.11.1/jquery.min.js"></script>
<script src="https://maxcdn.bootstrapcdn.com/bootstrap/3.3.6/js/bootstrap.min.js"></script>
<link href="https://maxcdn.bootstrapcdn.com/bootstrap/3.3.6/css/bootstrap.min.css" rel="stylesheet" />
<nav class="navbar navbar-default">
<div class="container-fluid">
<!-- Brand and toggle get grouped for better mobile display -->
<div class="navbar-header">
<button type="button" class="navbar-toggle collapsed" data-toggle="collapse" data-target="#bs-example-navbar-collapse-1" aria-expanded="false">
<span class="sr-only">Toggle navigation</span>
<span class="icon-bar"></span>
<span class="icon-bar"></span>
<span class="icon-bar"></span>
</button>
<a class="navbar-brand" href="#">Brand</a>
</div>
<!-- Collect the nav links, forms, and other content for toggling -->
<div class="collapse navbar-collapse" id="bs-example-navbar-collapse-1">
<ul class="nav navbar-nav">
<li class="active">Link <span class="sr-only">(current)</span>
</li>
<li>Link
</li>
<li class="dropdown">
Dropdown <span class="caret"></span>
<ul class="dropdown-menu">
<li>Action
</li>
<li>Another action
</li>
<li>Something else here
</li>
<li role="separator" class="divider"></li>
<li>Separated link
</li>
<li role="separator" class="divider"></li>
<li>One more separated link
</li>
</ul>
</li>
</ul>
<form class="navbar-form navbar-left" role="search">
<div class="form-group">
<input type="text" class="form-control" placeholder="Search">
</div>
<button type="submit" class="btn btn-default">Submit</button>
</form>
<ul class="nav navbar-nav navbar-right">
<li>Link
</li>
<li class="dropdown">
Dropdown <span class="caret"></span>
<ul class="dropdown-menu">
<li>Action
</li>
<li>Another action
</li>
<li>Something else here
</li>
<li role="separator" class="divider"></li>
<li>Separated link
</li>
</ul>
</li>
</ul>
</div>
<!-- /.navbar-collapse -->
</div>
<!-- /.container-fluid -->
</nav>
<div class="slider"></div>
Try something like this:
(as you required when the user clicks the navbar-toggle button, adds a certain class to a certain div with jQuery)
$('body').ready(function() {
$('.navbar-toggle').on('click', function() {
$(".slider").toggleClass("sliderMove");
});
});
Try this
<nav class="navbar navbar-default navbar-static-top">
<div class="container">
<div class="navbar-header">
<button type="button" class="navbar-toggle collapsed" data-toggle="collapse" data-target="#navbar">
<span class="sr-only">Toggle navigation</span>
<span class="icon-bar"></span>
<span class="icon-bar"></span>
<span class="icon-bar"></span>
</button>
</div>
<div class="collapse navbar-collapse" id="navbar">
<div class="slider">
<div class="container">
<div class="row">
other elements
</div> <!-- close row -->
</div> <!-- close container -->
</div>
</div><!-- /.navbar-collapse -->
</div><!-- /.container -->
</nav>
Javascript
$('.navbar-collapse').on('click', function() {
$(".slider").toggleClass("sliderMove");
});
CSS
.sliderMove{
height:100%;
width:100%
}

I am using bootstrap for my responsive navbar on mobile view.
When I click the button and the navbar menu is display from top to down.
What should I do to can make it from left to right?(Remember to resize your windows to mobile size).
You can check out this popular Bootstrap fork available: Jasny Bootstrap
It has the same slide in from left effect.
<link href="http://www.jasny.net/bootstrap/dist/css/jasny-bootstrap.min.css" rel="stylesheet"/>
<link href="http://netdna.bootstrapcdn.com/bootstrap/3.2.0/css/bootstrap.min.css" rel="stylesheet"/>
<script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/2.1.1/jquery.min.js"></script>
<script src="http://netdna.bootstrapcdn.com/bootstrap/3.2.0/js/bootstrap.min.js"></script>
<script src="http://www.jasny.net/bootstrap/dist/js/jasny-bootstrap.min.js"></script>
<nav id="myNavmenu" class="navmenu navmenu-default navmenu-fixed-left offcanvas" role="navigation">
<a class="navmenu-brand" href="#">Brand</a>
<ul class="nav navmenu-nav">
<li class="active">Home</li>
<li>Link</li>
<li>Link</li>
</ul>
</nav>
<div class="navbar navbar-default navbar-fixed-top">
<button type="button" class="navbar-toggle" data-toggle="offcanvas" data-target="#myNavmenu" data-canvas="body">
<span class="icon-bar"></span>
<span class="icon-bar"></span>
<span class="icon-bar"></span>
</button>
</div>
You need to override following two properties to archive this. Here you should also use pull-left bootstrap class, this class element move into left side only but doesn't set margin. I thought you should override base on the requirement.
.nav-left{
float: left !important;
margin: 8px 15px !important;
}
<script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.11.3/jquery.min.js"></script>
<script src="https://maxcdn.bootstrapcdn.com/bootstrap/3.3.5/js/bootstrap.min.js"></script>
<link href="https://maxcdn.bootstrapcdn.com/bootstrap/3.3.5/css/bootstrap.min.css" rel="stylesheet"/>
<nav class="navbar navbar-default">
<div class="container">
<div class="row">
<div class="container-fluid">
<!-- Brand and toggle get grouped for better mobile display -->
<div class="navbar-header">
<button type="button" class="navbar-toggle collapsed nav-left" data-toggle="collapse" data-target="#bs-example-navbar-collapse-1" aria-expanded="false">
<span class="sr-only">Toggle navigation</span>
<span class="icon-bar"></span>
<span class="icon-bar"></span>
<span class="icon-bar"></span>
</button>
</div>
<!-- Collect the nav links, forms, and other content for toggling -->
<div class="collapse navbar-collapse" id="bs-example-navbar-collapse-1">
<!-- Search Box -->
<form class="navbar-form navbar-left" role="search" id="search_mobile">
<div class="form-group">
<input type="text" class="form-control" placeholder="Enter your manual keyword">
</div>
<button type="submit" class="btn btn-default">Search</button>
</form>
<ul class="nav navbar-nav">
<li>MANUALS</li>
<li>NEWS</li>
<li>SPARE PART</li>
<li>WHERE TO BUY</li>
<li>SUPPORT</li>
<li>EDIT BOOK</li>
<li>ADMIN</li>
<!-- <li>LOG OUT</li> -->
</ul>
</div><!-- /.navbar-collapse -->
</div><!-- /.container-fluid -->
</div>
</div>
</nav>
With the Jasny Bootstrap slide-in plug-in, the default class is "navmenu-fixed-left". You can change the class to "navmenu-fixed-right" to make the menu slide in from the right side:
<div class="navmenu navmenu-default navmenu-fixed-right offcanvas" role="navigation">
<ul class="nav navmenu-nav">
<li>About</li>
<li>Capabilities</li>
</ul>
</div>
If you also want the toggle button to appear on the right side, you need to adjust some CSS:
.navbar-default .navbar-toggle-box {
float: right;
margin-left: 15px;
margin-right: 0;
margin-top: 0;
position: absolute;
right: 0;
}

bootstrap navbar mobile toggle not working

I loaded bootstrap css and js files and added the html code of following.
Both are succesfully loaded - css in head tag and js below footer. Other functions are also working fine.
<nav class="navbar navbar-inverse navbar-fixed-top" role="navigation">
<div class="container container-header">
<!-- Brand and toggle get grouped for better mobile display -->
<div class="navbar-header">
<button type="button" class="navbar-toggle" data-toggle="collapse" data-target=".navbar-ex1-collapse">
<span class="sr-only">Toggle navigation</span>
<span class="icon-bar"></span>
<span class="icon-bar"></span>
<span class="icon-bar"></span>
</button>
<a class="navbar-brand" href="{{ url_for('public.home') }}">
NekTime
</a>
</div>
<!-- Collect the nav links, forms, and other content for toggling -->
<div class="collapse navbar-collapse navbar-ex1-collapse">
<ul class="nav navbar-nav">
<li>Home</li>
<li>About</li>
</ul>
{% if current_user and current_user.is_authenticated() %}
<ul class="nav navbar-nav navbar-right">
<li>
<p class="navbar-text"><a class="navbar-link" href="{{ url_for('user.members') }}">Logged in as {{ current_user.username }}</a></p>
</li>
<li><a class="navbar-link" href="{{ url_for('public.logout') }}"><i class="fa fa-sign-out"></i></a></li>
</ul>
{% elif form %}
<ul class="nav navbar-nav navbar-right">
<li>Create account</li>
</ul>
<form id="loginForm" method="POST" class="navbar-form form-inline navbar-right" action="/" role="login">
{{ form.hidden_tag() }}
<div class="form-group">
{{ form.username(placeholder="Username", class_="form-control") }}
{{ form.password(placeholder="Password", class_="form-control") }}
</div>
<button type="submit" class="btn btn-default">Log in</button>
</form>
{% endif %}
</div><!-- /.navbar-collapse -->
</div><!-- /.container -->
</nav>
When I shrink the browser, the toggle button replaces other menus, but I cannot expand that toggle button.
I managed to get the right data-target.. i don't know what to do next
I added the collapsed class in the button tag, and it works. Look the following code.
<button type="button" class="navbar-toggle collapsed" data-toggle="collapse" data-target=".navbar-ex1-collapse">
It worked the next day..when I changed the code for loading jquery. Guess the previous code to bring jquery did not work properly.

Bootstrap 3.2 Navbar not collapsing with jquery.min.map error

I am using Bootstrap for the first time and my navbar is not collapsing. So in response to this question on SO, I checked the order of jquery and Bootstrap js files and its OK.
When I checked the Network tab to check if all resources are loading correctly, I am getting jquery.min.map error that it can't be loaded.
Is my problem related due to this missing file and why Bootstrap is asking for this file?
Here is the image :
And when I further decrease the screen width, the links and search disappear and the expand button also does not appear.
Here is my code for navbar for the reference
<div class="container" id="main">

You left out part of your nav html under navbar-header:
<button type="button" class="navbar-toggle collapsed" data-toggle="collapse" data-target="#bs-example-navbar-collapse-1">
