On ajax success, change another link value - javascript

I have a simple jquery voting system where users click a heart icon and a value is updated with the amount of likes the post currently has. That works fine, but I want to display the updated value in another link instead. Example:
The function:
$(function() {
$(".fav").click(function() {
var id = $(this).attr("id");
var dataString = 'id='+ id ;
var parent = $(this);
$(this).fadeOut(300);
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
url: "/ajax/post_like.php",
data: dataString,
cache: false,
success: function(html) {
parent.html(html);
parent.fadeIn(300);
}
});
return false;
});
});
How the HTML looks like:
<i class="fa fa-heart"></i>
<i class="fa fa-retweet"></i>
{$p->notes}
How can I achieve this? I'm still in the process of learning javascript. Any help appreciated!

If all you're looking to do is increment it by 1 you can add this to your success:
var val = parseInt($(".notes").text());
$(".notes").text(val+1);
Otherwise, if the return from your AJAX, "html", is the number you want to use just replace
parent.html(html);
with
$(".notes").text(html);
Update:
Based on your comment, try this:
parent.parent().find(".notes").text(html);
This will get the closest notes (presumably the one you want to update) and change it's text.

Display SQL Query Result using AJAX

I have a news feed on my site, onto which users can post posts. These posts can then be liked by other users (just like facebook for example).
The Problem
I would like to display the users, who liked a post using ajax. Whenever a certain element is hovered.
At the moment the users are correctly displayed but below every post, not just the one which contains the hovered element.
My attempt to solve the problem
<!-- HOVER THIS -->
<span class="likers small link"></span>
<!-- DISPLAY LIKERS HERE -->
<small class="displayLikers"></small>
<!-- AJAX -->
<script>
$(function() {
$(".likers").hover(function(){
$.ajax({
url: "get/likers",
type: "GET",
success: function(response) {
$(this).closest('.displayLikers').html(response);
}
});
});
});
</script>
I would be very thankful for any kind of help!
Inside the $.ajax, $(this) does not refer to $(".likers") just add $(this) to a variable and use it in the ajax response function;
$(function() {
$(".likers").hover(function(){
var likes = $(this);
$.ajax({
url: "get/likers",
type: "GET",
success: function(response) {
likes.closest('.displayLikers').html(response);
}
});
});
});
In your example the .displayLikers is a sibling so you should probably use next(). Moreover this will refer to the actual context of the success function, so you have to create a reference before.
$(function() {
$(".likers").hover(function(){
var self = $(this);
$.ajax({
url: "get/likers",
type: "GET",
success: function(response) {
self.next('.displayLikers').html(response);
}
});
});
});

(this).parent().find not working for getting response in ajax call

$(".content-short").click(function() {
$(".content-full").empty();
var contentid=$(this).parent().find(".content-full").attr('data-id');
var content=$(this).parent().find(".content-full");
alert(contentid);
var collegename = $(this).attr('data-id');
$.ajax({
type: "post",
url: "contenthome.php",
data: 'collegename=' + collegename,
dataType: "text",
success: function(response) {
$content.html(response);
}
});
});
here the alert displays the specific data-id but
content=$(this).parent().find(".content-full");
this didn't displays data in content-full div with that specific data-id
anything wrong in the code or something else?
the query displays data if i use(."content-full"); instead of
$(this).parent().find(".content-full");
Inside the ajax callback you are using $content, but you declare your variable as content. May that be the problem?
Your question is not clear. What are you trying to achieve?

How can I capture the attribute id from a dynamically generated html?

I am pretty sure this is not so complicated but I have been for hours trying to figure out how to catch the id of this dynamically generated anchor tags.
What I do in my code is that everytime a text input changes, theres an ajax request that goes to a php file and returns me a json array with the prices then I render this results of search in buttons that will be clickable to do other types of request but so far here's where I'm stuck.
heres's the code that loops through the array and renders this buttons (NOTE:The Id of the buttons are variables rendered by the function too.
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
url: "php/get_products.php",
data: {query:prod_qry},
success: function(data){
$('#loader_s').hide();
var jsarray = JSON.parse(data);
var length = jsarray.length;
for(i=0;i<jsarray.length;i++){
var index1 = i;
var index2 = Number(i++) + 1;
var index3 = Number(i++) + 2;
$('#modal-bod').append('<a onclick="renderProds();" class="btn btn-default-item prod_sel" style="margin-top:10px;" id="'+index3+'" data-dismiss="modal">'+jsarray[index1]+' <span class="pull-right" st>lps. '+jsarray[index2]+'</span></a>');
}
}
Then here's the function renderProds()
function renderProds(){
var id = $(this).attr('id');
alert(id);
}
the alert is just to try and catch the values for testing purposes, but what really goes there is another Ajax request.
The only thing I get here is that the var Id is undefined...
You can pass object like
function renderProds(obj) {
var id = obj.id;
alert(id);
}
Pass invoker object like
onclick="renderProds(this);"
I would do :
onclick="renderProds(this);"
function renderProds(that){
var id = that.id;
alert(id);
}
You use jQuery.. so USE jQuery !
Ajax can do the JSON.parse for you with just dataType: "json".
The inline onclick is bad practice.
Move the success function to make your code more readable.
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
url: "php/get_products.php",
data: {query:prod_qry},
dataType : 'json',
success: productsUpdate
});
function renderProds(event){
var id = $(event.target).attr("id");
alert("Id is:"+id);
}
function productUpdate(data){
$('#loader_s').hide();
for(i=0;i<data.length;i++){
var link = $('<a>....</a>');
link.click(renderProds);
$('#modal-bod').append(link);
}
}
Now, this is readable.
Complete the link creation with your code, without the onclick, remove the inline css and use a real css selector and finally, check this ugly Number(i++)+ .... it looks so bad.

how to pass php value from one file to another through java script

I am working with Concrete-5 CMS, I have an issue in passing value form view to controller.In my application I am using following code for displaying employee role.
foreach($rd as $data){
echo "<tr><td>".$data[role_name]."</td><td>".$data[role_description]."</td><td>Edit</td><td>".$ih->button_js(t('Delete'), "deleteRole('".$data['role_id']."')", 'left', 'error')."</td></tr>";
}
<input type="hidden" name="rno" id="rno" />
script:
$delConfirmJS = t('Are you sure you want to remove this Role?'); ?>
<script type="text/javascript">
function deleteRole(myvar) {
var role = document.getElementById('rno');
role.value = myvar;
if (confirm('<?php echo $delConfirmJS ?>')) {
$('#rolelist').submit();
//location.href = "<?php echo $this->url('/role/add_role/', 'delete', 'myvar')?>";
}
}
</script>
html code
I did edit operation by passing role_id through edit action. But, In case of delete i should ask for a conformation, so I use java script to conform it and call the href location and all.
But i don't know how to pass the role_id to script and pass to my controller. how to achieve this task?
thanks
Kumar
You can pass value to server using ajax calls.
See the following code. Here We use a confirm box to get user confirmation.
function deleteEmployee(empId){
var confirm=confirm("Do you want to delete?");
if (confirm)
{
var url = "path/to/delete.php";
var data = "emp_id="+empId;
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
url: "otherfile.php",
data: data ,
success: function(){
alert("Employee deleted successfully.");
}
});
}
}
In delete.php you can take the employee id by using $_POST['emp_id']
You can do it easily by using jquery
var dataString = 'any_variable='+ <?=$phpvariable?>;
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
url: "otherfile.php",
data: dataString,
success: function(msg){
// msg is return value of your otherfile.php
}
}); //END $.ajax
I would add an extra variable in to the delete link address. Preferrably the ID of the row that you need to be deleted.
I don't know Concrete-5 CMS. But, i am giving you the general idea
I think, you are using some button on which users can click if they want to delete role.
<td>".$ih->button_js(t('Delete'), "deleteRole('".$data['role_id']."')", 'left', 'error')."</td>
My suggestion,
add onClick to button
onClick="deleteEmployee(roleId);" // roleId - dynamic id of the role by looping over
Frankly speaking dude, i dont know how you will add this to your button that i guess there would surely be some way to simply add this to existing html.
And now, simply use Sajith's function
// Sajith's function here
function deleteEmployee(empId){
var confirm=confirm("Do you want to delete?");
if (confirm){
var url = "path/to/delete.php";
var data = "emp_id="+empId;
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
url: "otherfile.php",
data: data ,
success: function(){
alert("Employee deleted successfully.");
}
});
}
}

AJAX request for many links

I'm new to jQuery AJAX. I want to build bookmarking system something like Twitter do (favorites). I have a lot of links. So it's not useful to write AJAX request for each link. That's why I want use just one request script for all links.
Let's say I have the links something link this:
<i class="icon-star-empty"></i>
<i class="icon-star"></i>
<i class="icon-star-empty"></i>
So I want to write AJAX request that do something like this when user clicks to one of those URLs.
if (class="icon-star-empty"){
ajaxURL = "/insertBoomark"
} else{
//it means class=icon-start
ajaxURL = "/deleteBookmark"
}
$.ajax({
url: ajaxURL,
type: "POST",
data: {id : linkID}, // I don't know how to get linkID too :(
success: if class was icon-star empty then change it to icon-star-empty else change it to icon-star
});
I know that is not correct syntax.
How can I solve this problem? Please help :(
Thanks in advance.
$("i").on("click", function() {
if ( $(this).hasClass("icon-star-empty") ){
ajaxURL = "/insertBoomark"
} else{
//it means class=icon-start
ajaxURL = "/deleteBookmark"
}
var linkID = $(this).parent().prop("id");
var obj = $(this);
$.ajax({
url: ajaxURL,
type: "POST",
data: {id : linkID},
success: function() {
obj.hasClass("icon-star") ? obj.removeClass("icon-star").addClass("icon-star-empty") : obj.removeClass("icon-star-empty").addClass("icon-star");
}
});
})
You can also use the href attribute and just prevent the default action from the jquery event.
html
javascript
$(function(){
$(document).on('click','a',function(e){
e.preventDefault(); //prevent default click action
var $this = $(this); // keeps "this" accessable
var ajaxURL = $this.attr('href'); // get the url from the "a" tag
$.ajax({
url: ajaxURL,
type: "POST",
data: {id : linkID},
success: function() {
if($this.hasClass("icon-star"))
$this.removeClass("icon-star").addClass("icon-star-empty");
else
$this.removeClass("icon-star-empty").addClass("icon-star");
}
});
});
});
$('a').click(function(){
var _ajaxURL,
_self = $(this);
if($(this).hasClass('icon-star-empty')){
_ajaxUrl = "/insertBookmark";
}else{
_ajaxUrl = "/deleteBookmark";
}
$.ajax({
url: _ajaxUrl,
type: 'POST',
data: {id : $(this).prop('id')},
success: {
//I have no idea what you want to do right here.
}
});
});
Okay, first, class is a reserved name in javascript.
Secondly, if you're doing it with a jQuery.click function, then you can just do $(this).attr('id') to get the id.
Also, for the success part, you seem to be confused about javascript's function syntax. What exactly are you trying to do?
