I'm very new at this and I tried to search, couldn't find answer.
I have several buttons that have a value assigned to them and when I click them, it copies text into another textbox with a submit button underneath that.
I'm having trouble having the textbox recognize that the value was input into the textbox to therefore enable the submit button.
Sample of what I have:
$("#buttonToCopy").click(function () {
$('#textBox').val("Value").html();
});
$('#textBox').on('input', function () {
if ($(this).val().length>0);
$('#submitBtn').removeAttr('disabled');
$('#submitBtn').removeClass('disabled');
});
Any help is really appreciated.
As can be read in this StackOverflow question, jQuery doesn't fire events when using the .val() method. This means that your code
$("#buttonToCopy").click(function () {
$('#textBox').val("Value").html();
});
will not fire "input", or "change" events. You could trigger the event yourself:
$("#buttonToCopy").click(function () {
$('#textBox').val("Value").html();
$('#textBox').trigger('input');
});
Alternatively, you could easily call the function to disable the button from the buttonToCopy as well:
$("#buttonToCopy").click(function () {
$('#textBox').val("Value").html();
EnableSubmitButton()
});
$('#textBox').on('input', function () {
EnableSubmitButton()
});
function EnableSubmitButton(){
if ($(this).val().length>0) {
$('#submitBtn').removeAttr('disabled');
$('#submitBtn').removeClass('disabled');
}
}

I am trying to develop some code to allow the user show/hide a block level element by clicking a button.
The HTML structure is like below
<div class="chat_container"><a class="crm" href="https://google.com" target="_blank">Chat?</a><button id="close_chat"><</button></div>
I have written a click() function for #close_chat which amongst other things changes the ID of the button to #open_chat. I then use the on() method on #open_chat to modify some classes and ids on various elements. In isolation both these methods work, however when combined they don't work. I have noticed that when I click #close_chat even though the ID changes to #open_chat the original event is still attached to the button. After doing some search I suspected the issue might have been related to events bubbling up, but now I am not so sure, still I added event.stopPopagation() to my click function and I can see it appears to be called correctly. I have also tried using the one() method, this appeared to get closer to the behavior I was expecting at the DOM level but still didn't working
My expected behavior is the click() function is called when the user clicks #close_chat, the event is then unbound allowing the .on() event to be called on #open_chat. Id than of course have to reset the original functionality. My code looks like this
$(document).ready(function () {
var close = "<button id='close_chat'><</div>";
var container = $("<div />");
container.addClass("chat_container");
var crmChat = $("<a />");
crmChat.addClass("crm");
crmChat.attr("href", "https://google.com");
crmChat.attr("target", "_blank");
crmChat.text("Chat?");
console.log(crmChat);
console.log(container);
$(container).insertAfter("#heading");
$(container).prepend(crmChat);
$(close).insertAfter(crmChat);
$("#close_chat").click(function (event) {
$("#close_chat").removeAttr("id").attr("id", "open_chat");
event.stopPropagation();
alert(event.isPropagationStopped());
//return false;
});
$(".chat_container").on("#open_chat", "button", function () {
//$(".crm_chat_container").addClass("animate-open").removeClass("animate-close");
$("#open_chat").html(">").removeAttr("id").attr("id", "reopen");
//event.stopPropagation();
});
});
any help is greatly appreciated
Sam
edit, I have now updated my code to look like so
//onclick function for our close button
$("#close_chat").click(function (event) {
attachClosedChatListner();
});
function attachOpendChatListener() {
$(".chat_container").on("click","#open_chat", function () {
$("#open_chat").removeAttr("id").attr("id", "close_chat");
$("#close_chat").html("<")
$(".crm_chat_container").removeClass("animate-close").addClass("animate-open");
});
//attachClosedChatListner();
}
function attachClosedChatListner() {
$("#close_chat").off('click');
$("#close_chat").removeAttr("id").attr("id", "open_chat");
$("#open_chat").html(">")
$(".chat_container").removeClass("animate-open").addClass("animate-close");
//attachOpendChatListener();
}
What about re-attaching the event?
$("#close_chat").click(function (event) {
$("#close_chat").removeAttr("id").attr("id", "open_chat");
attachOpenChatListener();
event.stopPropagation();
alert(event.isPropagationStopped());
//return false;
});
function attachOpenChatListener() {
$("#close_chat").off('click');
$(".chat_container").on("#open_chat", "button", function () {
//$(".crm_chat_container").addClass("animate-open").removeClass("animate-close");
$("#open_chat").html(">").removeAttr("id").attr("id", "reopen");
//event.stopPropagation();
});
}
I managed to work this out, the click function was causing the problem
//onclick function for our close button
$("#close_chat").click(function (event) {
attachClosedChatListner();
});
I've replaced it with .on and it works now
$(".crm_chat_container").on("click", "#close_chat", function (event) {
$("#close_chat").off('click');
$("#close_chat").removeAttr("id").attr("id", "open_chat");
$("#open_chat").html(">");
$(".crm_chat_container").removeClass("primo-animate-open").addClass("animate- close");
attachCloseChatListener();
event.stopImmediatePropagation();
});
function attachCloseChatListener() {
$(".crm_chat_container").on("click", "#open_chat", function (event) {
$("#open_chat").off('click');
$(".crm_chat_container").removeClass("primo-animate-close").addClass("primo-animate-open");
$("#open_chat").removeAttr("id").attr("id", "close_chat");
$("#close_chat").html("<");
event.stopImmediatePropagation();
});
}
on thing is my click events appears to be firing multiple times, that is after clicking my buttons a few times I see several click events in dev tools.
Anyway, thanks for putting me on the right path
I need to write an event handler when user clears the text field and moves out of focus from the same.
I'm using the following function to catch "focus out" event.
$("input[type=text]").blur(function () {
}
I have the followingfunction to capture clear field event.
$("input[type=text]").keyup(function() {
if (!this.value) {
}
}
I tried using the keyup() function inside blur() since I need to capture the focus out and then clear field. This is how my code looks like:
$("input[type=text]").blur(function () {
$(this).keyup(function() {
if (!this.value) {
}
}
}
But it doesn't work. Clear field event is triggered even before focus is out of the field. Also, it is triggering the event multiple times. What is the problem here?
I think that is more simple:
$('input').on('blur', function(e) {
if(!$(this).val()) {
// IS NO VALUE IN THE INPUT
$(this).trigger('blur'); // trigger the blur event
}
});
Here you are:
$("input[type=text]").on('blur', function() {
alert('blur');
});
$("input[type=text]").on('input', function() {
if (!$(this).val()) {
alert("input nothing");
}
});
<script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/2.1.1/jquery.min.js"></script>
<input type="text" />
Hope this helps.
I want to detect a change in the input field when i select a value from the box like in the picture below.
html:
<input type="text" class="AgeChangeInput" id="range"/>
js:(not working)
<script>
$(document).ready(function()
{
alert("Hello");
$("#range").bind('input', function()
{
alert("done");
});
});
</script>
I also tried live on functions but they didn;t work too.
Your date selection box should fire a change event, then you only need to capture it:
$(function () {
$('#range').change(function () {
...
});
});
If the selection box doesn't fire the event, you'll need to trick the dom. Something like:
$(document).ready(function () {
// Asuming your selection box opens on input click
$('#range').click(function () {
$('.special-box-class').click(fireRangeEvent);
});
// Now the firing function
function fireRangeEvent() {
...
}
});
Hope it works
Try to use this code
changeDate - This event is fired when the date is changed.
$('#range').datepicker().on('changeDate', function(ev) {
//example of condition
if (ev.date.valueOf() > checkout.date.valueOf()) {
//make action here
alert('Here');
}
});
I'm trying to write a javascript with jquery which should be able to pick out and use information on if a checkbox is checked or not. This should happen every time the checkbox(has id 'edit-toggle-me') is clicked. I've written a test function for this with some alert() in it to see if I've succeeded or not.
(function ($) {
"use strict";
$(document).ready(function () {
$('#edit-toggle-me').click(function(){
if ($('#edit-toggle-me').checked()) {
alert('Yup!');
}
else {
alert('Nup!');
}
});
});
})(jQuery);
It perform neither of the alerts so I'm guessing it crashes at $('#edit-toggle-me').checked(). I don't know why though.
I've also tried this:
(function ($) {
$(document).ready(function () {
$('#edit-toggle-me').click(function(){
var elementy = document.getElementById('edit-toggle-me');
var check = elementy.value;
alert(check);
if(elementy.checked()) {
alert('yup');
}
});
});
})(jQuery);
The first alert works, but neither or the last two 'yup' or 'nup'.
And then I also tried this:
(function ($) {
$(document).ready(function () {
$('#edit-toggle-me').click(function(){
var element2 = document.getElementById('edit-toggle-me');
var check = element2.value;
alert(check);
});
});
})(jQuery);
This always return 1. Which I don't understand why either.
Grateful for any hints.
Use .is(':checked'). You can find the documentation HERE.
JSFIDDLE
There is no such method as .checked() in jQuery or in the DOM API. There is simply a .checked property on the element that is true if the element is checked, false otherwise. Try this:
(function ($) {
"use strict";
$(document).ready(function () {
$('#edit-toggle-me').click(function(){
alert( this.checked ? ":)" : ":(" );
});
});
})(jQuery);
See demo: http://jsfiddle.net/scZ3X/
$(function(){
$('#edit-toggle-me').on('change', function(){
if($(this).is(':checked')) {
alert('checked');
}
else {
alert('unchecked');
}
});
});
You should have to use change event instead click. Because In some cases click event is not good to use in check box and radio buttons.
Example 1:
If you have a radio button have click event bind. In case your radio button is already true and you clicking in radio button. Its not change radio button value, But your click event fire every time.
But in case if you use change event. Your event will fire only if your radio button value got change(If its already not checked or true)
Example 2:
If you have any label for any radio button or check box. In case you have click event bind in checkbox or radio button. On click of your label your check box or radio button value got change but your click event will not call.
In case of change event. Itll work as expected on click of label related label too.
Try this:
$('#edit-toggle-me').is(':checked')
I have this function:
$("#border-radius").click(function(){
var value = $("#border-radius").attr("value");
$("div.editable").click(function (e) {
e.stopPropagation();
showUser(value, '2', this.id)
$(this).css({
"-webkit-border-radius": value
});
});
});
It reads the value of a textbox,
input type="text" id="border-radius" value="20px"
...and does a few things with it that are not relevant to my problem.
The textbox has the id="border-radius", and when it is clicked (and has a value) the function executes, as shown: $("#border-radius").click(function(){ ...do some stuff...
Basically, I want to be able to type a value into the textbox, and then click an object (submit button or div, preferably a div) and have it execute the function after: $("#border-radius").click(function(){ ...do some stuff... Instead of having to click the textbox itself
What can I add/change to enable this?
I think you need to identify the event target.
that you can do it by
event target property
example
$(document).ready(function() {
$("#border-radius").click(function(event) {
alert(event.target.id);
//match target id and than proceed futher
});
});
Put the click handler on #my-button or whatever your button is.
$("#my-button").click(function(){
var value = ... /* your original code */
});
It will still work because you are getting the value like $("#border-radius").attr("value"); and not $(this).attr("value");. So you all you need to change is which element you attach the click function to.
Alternatively, if you want to keep both handlers, you can just use it for both elements like this:
var commonHandler = function(){
var value = ... /* your original code */
};
$("#border-radius").click(commonHandler);
$("#my-button").click(commonHandler);
You can also trigger the click event of #border-radius, but this will execute all the event handlers attached on it:
$("#my-button").click(function () {
$("#border-radius").click();
// or $("#border-radius").trigger('click');
});
