I'm having trouble with javascript in my rails app. I want to run a simple multiplication function on click when myButton is clicked and return it in an alert. Right now, I can't even get the JS to talk, and it's reloading the page, despite the code I have...
<script>
$(function() {
$('#myButton').click(function(e) {
e.preventDefault();
alert("hello")
})
})
</script>
<form>
$<input id="dataToPass"type="text"></input> <input id="myButton "type="submit" value="Invest"> </input>
</form>
If I add inline JS, I can get the alert to work, but when I move the code outside of the html, it's not working. Anyone know why? I'm not adept with jQuery or JavaScript.
change
id="myButton "
with
id="myButton"

I want to file load popup to appear after I use function loadFile(), because myInput is hidden.
//HTML
<div id ="hideWhiteSpace" style="display:none">
<input id="myInput" type="file"/>
</div>
Here is my javascript file example, onchange won't work cause i cant press the button.
//JS
function loadFile(){
document.getElementById('myInput').onchange = function (e){
//run code to load file into web.
}
}
Okay, I got it, just put this before onchange line:
document.getElementById('myInput').click();
I don't know if I should answer my own questions or delete the post if I got the answer.
Comment please.
I have tried to search for similar questions, but I could not find anything, so if you know any similar question please let me know.
Let me explain what Im doing:
I have a script that validates forms in a js file, It works fine in any page with a form I have, the problem is that when I load a form using jquery it just doesn't work, I have tried using the next line in different places: Header, footer, etc
<script src='myFile.js'></script>
By far the only thing that has worked for is writing the line of code above inside the form itself.
I think it has something to do with the form that the DOM works, I have also tried using and not using it.
$(document).ready(function (){ //code});
It only will work when I add the script tag with the src attribute inside the form itself.
It would not represent a big problem for me to add the script tag to any form I load using jquery but it's a little bit more of work an unefficient, and also when I add the script tag to any form and load it using ajax I get the next console warning that only goes away when I remove the script tag from the form file:
jquery-3.2.1.min.js:4 [Deprecation] Synchronous XMLHttpRequest on the main thread is deprecated because of its detrimental effects to the end user's experience. For more help, check https://xhr.spec.whatwg.org/.
Here is a part of my code:
<!--home.html-->
<div id='formFrame'>
</div>
<script>
$("#formFrame").load("html/loginForm.html");
</script>
<!--end of home.html-->
<!--loginForm.html-->
<form action='somePage.php' method='post' id='loginForm'>
<input type='email' name='email' placeholder='email'>
<input type='password' name='password' placeholder='password'>
<input type='submit' name='submit' value='Login'>
</form>
<script src='js/validate.js'></script>
<!--end of loginForm.html-->
<!--validation script (validate.js)-->
$(document).ready(function (){
$("#loginForm").submit(function (e){
e.preventDefault();
alert("Working");
});
});
Thanks for spending some of your valuable time on reading this, I appreciate it a lot!
As I can't comment, putting my comment in answer!
I am not sure what you have written in validate.js, but if you are using jQuery unobtrusive validation, then you must rebind the validators to the form if you are loading it dynamically.
I was facing same issue in ASP.NET MVC while loading forms using AJAX. I am not sure will it help you or not but below is the code.
$("#formFrame").load("html/loginForm.html", function(){
var $form = $("formSelector");
$form.removeData('validator');
$form.removeData('unobtrusiveValidation');
$.validator.unobtrusive.parse($form);
});
Well guys I found a solution:
As there seems to be a conflict when loading an external page using ajax (.load) I opted to use php instead of javascript which worked fine:
I removed the next code
<script>
$("#formFrame").load("html/loginForm.html");
</script>
And added the next to the div where I want to load my content:
<!--home.php (changed html to php)-->
<div id='formFrame'>
<?php
require 'html/loginForm.html';
?>
</div>
I would have prefered to use the load method from ajax to avoid loading the content befere the user could request it, but by far that's the only solution I have been able to think about.
Thanks to everybody for your help it was really helpful!
I am using ASP.NET MVC 3 with the Yahoo API version 3. I am trying to get my YUI3 button to redirect to another page when I click on it, this button is my cancel button. The cancel button is a plain button type, but it is being treated like a submit button. It is not redirecting to the correct page, but acting like a submit button and it kicks off my page validation like what the submit button would do.
I thought that it might be with my HTML but I did validate it. It validated 100% correct. So I then stripped down the whole page to a bare minimum but the cancel button is still working like a submit button. Here is my HTML markup:
#{
Layout = null;
}
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<head>
<title>Create2</title>
</head>
<body class="yui3-skin-sam">
<h1>Test submit</h1>
#using (Html.BeginForm())
{
<button id="SaveButton" type="submit">Save</button>
<button id="CancelButton" type="button">Cancel</button>
}
<script src="http://yui.yahooapis.com/3.6.0pr4/build/yui/yui-min.js"></script>
<script>
YUI().use('button', function (Y) {
var saveButton = new Y.Button({
srcNode: '#SaveButton'
}).render();
var cancelButton = new Y.Button({
srcNode: '#CancelButton',
on: {
'click': function (e) {
Y.config.win.location = '/Administration/Department/List';
}
}
}).render();
});
</script>
</body>
</html>
I'm not sure what I am doing wrong here? Is this maybe a bug in their API? I am testing on IE8 and on the latest version of FireFox.
UPDATE:
I forgot to mention that if these buttons are not between form tags then the redirect works fine. If I put them in form tags then the redirect does not work.
I would use a link because you are redirecting to another page. Doing it this way you wouldn't need to initialize it with javascript or register the onClick listener.
<button id="SaveButton" type="submit">Save</button>
<a id="CancelButton" href='/Administration/Department/List'>Cancel</a>
Look at this link to style your link: http://yuilibrary.com/yui/docs/button/cssbutton.html
The Y.Button widget is removing the type attribute from the Cancel button. This makes that button behave like a submit button.
There are many possible paths to make this work. I'll start from simple to complex. The first is to avoid the issue entirely and not use JavaScript at all. Just use a link:
<form action="/Administration/Department/Create2" method="post">
<button class="yui3-button">Save</button>
<a class="yui3-button" href="/Administration/Department/List">Cancel</a>
</form>
After all, all that the Button widget is doing is adding a couple of css classes to each tag and a lot of other stuff that makes more complex widgets possible. As you can see in the Styling elements with cssbutton example, even <a> tags can look like nice buttons using just the YUI css styles. If you don't have to use JavaScript, better not to use it.
A second option is to avoid the Y.Button widget and use the Y.Plugin.Button plugin. It's more lightweight in both kb and processing power. And it doesn't touch the tag attributes, so your location code will work.
YUI().use('button-plugin', function (Y) {
Y.all('button').plug(Y.Plugin.Button);
Y.one('#CancelButton').on('click', function () {
Y.config.win.location = '/Administration/Department/List';
});
});
And finally you can hack around the behavior of the Y.Button widget by preventing the default action of the button:
var cancelButton = new Y.Button({
srcNode: '#CancelButton',
on: {
'click': function (e) {
e.preventDefault();
Y.config.win.location = '/Administration/Department/List';
}
}
}).render();
I have a jquery fancyzoom box. In that box ,I have a contact form which sends an email on submission. But I am not able to call form submit function due to fancyzoom.
Code is like :
("req_quote.php")
<script type="text/javascript" src="js/jquery-1.3.2.min.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript" src="js/fancyzoom.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript">
$(document).ready(function() {
$('#popup1_link').fancyZoom({width:610});
$("#submit").css('cursor', 'pointer');
$('.reqfrm').submit( function(){
alert("hell");
});
});
</script>
<body>
<form class="reqfrm" id="frm">
<input type="text" name="name" />
<input type="submit" name="submit" id="submit" value="Submit" />
</form>
</body>
</html>
Above file is included in "index.php" which contains the actual link to open the form in fancyzoom box.
(index.php)
< a href="#popup1" id="popup1_link">< div class="blink">Request a Quote< /a>"
If I remove $('#popup1_link').fancyZoom({width:610}); then i get alert on submission otherwise it goes on form action directly.
Are you getting any JavaScript errors with the fancyZoom call in? Are you including the script file you need to use it? It's hard to say without seeing some more data, or a jsbin / jsfiddle.
The form is submitted in the fancybox js file.
As mentioned by Raul, you need to provide more info for us to help out. You could try any of these things:
See if you can reproduce this issue within a simple html file, that doesn't have any of the extra stuff that your current page may have. If the issue still persists, put it into jsFiddle and post the link here.
If you haven't already, install the Firebug addon for Firefox, and use it's console to check for any JS errors.
Have a look at the jsFiddle that I've created. Is this similar to what you are doing? Mine works wihtout any issues.
I have an .aspx page. I populate a public variable in the code behind (.cs) page and then access that variable in JS on client side. I have the script declared after the FORM tag as below :-
<body>
<form>
...
</form>
<script language="javascript" type="text/javascript">
debugger;
var data = "<%=cSharpData%>";
</script>
</body>
After postback this script does not get executed first time, but when I click on any other server button on the page, then it gets executed.
Any idea why?
Is your postback done with ajax?
If so then only part of the page is refreshed and the script is not executed again.
You can wrap it in a function and add that function to the postback callback handler.
This is how I did it on one site:
Sys.WebForms.PageRequestManager.getInstance().add_endRequest(function () { edit.update(); });
Putting some Javascript after a <FORM> element does not mean it will get processed after the form has been submitted. It gets processed as the HTML is rendered, which is what you are seeing.
If you want to run some Javascript after POSTing a form then you need to use a onClick handler, something like this:
<FORM NAME="myform" ACTION="" METHOD="GET">
<INPUT TYPE="text" NAME="inputbox" VALUE=""><P>
<INPUT TYPE="button" NAME="button" Value="Click" onClick="dosomejavascriptstuff()">
</FORM>
have you tried to execute it with jquery $(document).ready()?
something like:
<script language="javascript" type="text/javascript">
$(document).ready(function(){....});
</scrip>
updated
without jquery
/* registr event on document load */
if ( document.addEventListener ) {
document.addEventListener( "DOMContentLoaded", log4link, false );
} else if ( document ) {
document.attachEvent("onreadystatechange",function(){
if ( document.readyState === "complete" ) {log4link();}
});}
Thanks for your replies. I got closer to the issue but I do not know the solution :(
The C# variable contains a path info as "D:\" and when I set this on a JS variable I get the error as "Unterminated String Constant".
How do I overcome this.
Actually this was the problem, why the script was not getting executed. As soon as I removed the "\", it worked !
