I'm building a simple web-page to use as an info-screen. I would like it to load two external websites into one page. So far I've succeeded using jquery and the html object-tag:
$('#news').html('<object data="http://www.news.com"/>');
$('#weather').html('<object data="http://www.weather.com"/>');
Additionally I'd like the object-tags to scroll to a specific position automatically after they've finished loading.
I tried to use the .scrollTop function of jquery but no luck:
$('div#news > object').scrollTop(300);
$('div#weather > object').scrollTop(300);
I guessed it's because the content of the object tag is not yet loaded when the function is called so I tried to delay it by using
sleep(10000);
but no luck either.
How can I do this?
Thx a lot in advance for any hints!
you should use .load() event.
$('div#news > object').load(function() {
});

i have a WordPress site and problems with anchors. i have a page with several anchors which are linked to in the main menu. when i am on the page itself, all anchors work fine, but if I'am on any other page, they don't work, at least not in all browsers and the anchors are ignored.
As being informed it is a chrome bug, ive found this solution:
<script type="text/javascript">
jQuery(window).load(function(){
var hashNum = 0;
if (window.location.hash != ''){
hashNum = window.location.hash.replace("#oneofmanyanchors", "");
console.log('hashNum: ' + hashNum);
};
hashMenu = jQuery('[data-q_id="#oneofmanyanchors"]').offset().top;
jQuery('html,body').animate({
scrollTop: hashMenu
}, 0);
});
</script>
above code is working and fixes the issues i had in chrome and ff.
however i need this added functionality: At the moment it is addressing only one specific anchor, but i need it to work with any anchors in the page url, not just the one above (anchors are referenced with the data-q_id attribute).
so the code needs to be updated that it grabs any given anchor from the page URL and go to / scroll to that anchor (once) via jquery after first page load.
How do i achieve this?
Thanks in advance!
PS: The problem is caused by theme incompatibility with a certain plugin i need...
I think this should work in every browser - what happens to be the problem?
In order to achieve this in jquery you should scroll to the element/anchor with javascript as soon as the document is loaded.
So like this:
$(function() {
location.hash = "#" + hash;
});
I still think you should find out what went wrong and why the linken from another page doesn't work in some browser before using a workaround for the problem. Your code will just ged more and more messy like that.
How to scroll HTML page to given anchor using jQuery or Javascript?
and here
$(document).ready shorthand
I have a need to add a class to certain pages - ones that contain an ID of #hero. For all other pages, the class must not be added.
Because I'm using asp.net with a few layered master pages, its not as simple as just adding a class directly to the html becuase the body tag sits a couple of pages above the aspx page.
I could locate the body tag, but so far I've tried to avoid that due to the added complexity, and instead tried to use jquery.
Here's the code:
$(document).ready(function () {
updateBodyClasses();
});
function updateBodyClasses() {
if($("#hero")) {
$("html, body").addClass("hero");
}
}
Nothing complicated, but here's the rub. By the time the class has been appended, the page has been rendered and the class doesn't seem to have any effect. However, if I test it by adding the class directly to the html, it works - so I know the CSS works and that its a timing issue.
I suppose I could add the code higher up the page - jquery is deferred, so I would need to know the equivalent javascript to try it out.
Would appreciate any thoughts on this potential solution, or perhaps and other ideas.
/* UPDATE */
For clarity, it seems to be the HTML related class that isn't being applied.
You can alter the DOM without waiting for it to be ready.
You need to:
load jQuery in a synchronous way(without defer or async).
Put #hero element i above the script.
Please consider this example:
.red {
color: red;
}
<script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/2.1.1/jquery.min.js"></script>
<div id="hero">I don't care about DOM being ready</div>
<script>
var $el = $('#hero');
if ($el.length) {
$el.addClass('red');
}
</script>
You can use IIFE(Immidiately Invocked Function Expression):
like:
(function()
{
if($("#hero")) {
$("html, body").addClass("hero");
}
})();
just put your function in document ready like
$(function(){
if($("#hero")) {
$("html, body").addClass("hero");
}
});
No real solution provided.
Not reasitic to change the whole site infrastructure - from one that defers jquery to loading it synchronously.
The two other jquery answers are as per the current setup and don't work.
The only working solution was provided by Tushar, although it would still require selective loading of the script, which was not included in the answer.
In the end, I used a workaround, which bypassed the need for any javascript. Instead of selectively adding a class to html tag, I added the css permanently to the html tag, affecting all pages. I then added an inner div, which reverses it out. This means that any page can now manipulate its own functionality directly without having to add classes to the html tag.
New to posting on stackoverflow here, so my apologies in advance if I messed anything up here.
I'm using Twitter Bootstrap's popovers. My popovers seem to be working for elements that I manually type into my HTML document - but NOT the elements that I dynamically generate via Javascript / Ajax.
For example, the popover seems to work if I manually add this directly to my HTML document:
<p rel=popover data-content='It is so simple to create a tooltop for my website!' data-original-title='Twitter Bootstrap Popover'>hover for popover</p>
But what I really need is for my dynamically generated elements to have popovers. I use an XMLHttpRequest to send a request to a PHP file, and then grab the responseText and display it. When I add this line of code to my aforementioned PHP file:
echo "<p rel=popover data-content='It is so simple to create a tooltop for my website!' data-original-title='Twitter Bootstrap Popover'>hover for popover</p>";
... surely enough, the words "hover for popover" appear - but the popover itself doesn't work!
This has been driving me nuts for some time and it would be incredible if someone could lend me a helping hand! I've also added the JQuery function I'm using to enable Bootstrap's popovers below, for what that's worth.
$(function (){
$("[rel=popover]").popover({placement:'left'});
});
I've done a thorough search of similar problems and the best I could find was this link. But that link doesn't seem to have any solutions either. Thanks in advance again!
UPDATE:
Fixed! Many thanks to everyone who helped out. My problem was that the function was being called BEFORE the elements were added into the Document Object Model. There are multiple possible fixes - I simply tested out the solution by shifting the popover function to the END of the Ajax function and it worked!
You need to call $("[rel=popover]").popover({placement:'left'}); AFTER the elements are in the DOM.
UPDATE
If you are using jQuery
$(element_selector)
// load results into HTML of element_selector
.load('your/php/file')
// when done, initialize popovers
.done(function(){
$("[rel=popover]").popover({placement:'left'});
});
OR a catch all for jQuery ajax requests
$.ajaxComplete(function(){
$("[rel=popover]").popover({placement:'left'});
});
In the success function of the ajax you need to call the popover. Something like this
success:function(){
$("[rel=popover]").popover({placement:'left'});
}
This Function will work properly in the selector you have to specify the location on the page where you have to search "rel=popover" like I put *
$(function ()
{
console.info($("*[rel=popover]"));
$("*[rel=popover]").popover();
});
I am coding a big website but I have cut down my problem into the following tiny html file:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3224566/test.html
The problem is that if I (re)load with JQuery a content that features a facebook code, the latter won't appear, even if I reload the script (leading to a duplication of that all.js script, which is another issue).
How can I fix this?
Regards,
Quentin
Use the FB.XFBML.parse() docs after you load the new content
function loadPage() {
$('#test').load('test.html #test', function() {
FB.XFBML.parse( );
}).fadeOut('slow').fadeIn('slow');
}
Note, that loading a fragment with id test in a div with id test will create multiple (two) elements with the same id (nested in each other) in the page, which should never happen as it is invalid.
To avoid this use the more verbose $.get method
$.get('test.html',
function(data) {
var temp = $('<div>').html(data).find('#test');
$('#test').html(temp.html());
}
);
I'm using a asp.net slider inside an UpdatePanel within a page control.
I assign a behaviorID and call it using $find(behaviorID) in both $(document).ready and Sys.WebForms.PageRequestManager.getInstance().add_endRequestfunctions inside a JavaScript located in the bottom of the page.
The JavaScript function on the slider doesn't work after page_initial.
It fails to find the slider in JavaScript, i.e. $find(behaviorID) = null. while other JavaScript functions set in the $(document).ready does work.
However, I can view slider's rail and drag it.
But when I do any postback on the page with other controls , the slider works smoothly!
It generate additional tags with <... Class= ...Behavior_ID>
and the JS which is used to generate Slider and its Event in source code looks like:
Sys.Application.add_init(function() {
$create(AjaxControlToolkit.SliderBehavior, {"Length":410,"Maximum":100,"Minimum":-100,"TooltipText":"Adjust Target","id":"targetSlider_JS"}, null, null, $get("ctl00_ContentPlaceHolder3_Target1_txtSlider"));
});
The page is in 'content' of a MasterPage.
I guess it doesn't render the slider correctly when page-init, need some server side setting for slider?
Regards,
I had the same problem that was intermittent. Sometime it was null and other times was fine. I added a small setTimeout of 100ms to delay a call to $find and it works now.
didn't find solution.
used jquery slider instead.
