My resizeAreas function doesn't trigger in $(document).ready function. Here's the link to the app. I have also tried $(document).load but same result.
This problem is not consistent. But most of the time the page doesn't load correctly. If the list of task have the same height and 4 equal(as height) lists on the row then they are loaded correctly else they're not. To make sure that you see how it must look you can move a task element from one list to another. I don't have the reputation to post images.
Here is most of the javascript code:
function makeDropArea() {
var widthArea = $(".taskListing").width() / 2 - 55;
var heightArea = $(".taskListing").height();
$('.dropArea').width(widthArea);
$('.dropArea').css('margin-left', 5 + 'px');
$('.generalInfo').css('margin-left', 5 + 'px');
$('.generalInfo').css('width', widthArea * 2 + 220 - 45);
$('.subTaskHeader').css('width', widthArea + 25);
}
function makeDropElement(){
var widthEl = $('.dropArea').width() + 25 ;
$('.task').width(widthEl);
}
function taskListingSize(){
var width = getWidth();
var height = getHeight() * 80 / 100;
$('.taskListing').css('width', width);
}
function resizeAreas() {
$('.taskListing').each(function(){
var highestBox = 0;
$('.dropArea', this).each(function(){
if($(this).height() > highestBox)
highestBox = $(this).height();
});
$('.dropArea',this).css('min-height', highestBox);
});
}
$(document).ready(function () {
menu();
taskListingSize();
makeDropArea();
makeDropElement();
resizeAreas(); //<-- this is the one with the problems
$(".dropArea").resize(resizeAreas());
$( window ).resize(function() {
taskListingSize();
makeDropArea();
makeDropElement();
});
});
Thanks.
Update 1:
I've done some more testing and this bug is only on chrome and firefox but not on IE. The problem appears only on the openshift platform.
Either change:
$(".dropArea").resize(resizeAreas());
To:
$(".dropArea").resize("resizeAreas");
Or:
$(".dropArea").resize(function(){
resizeAreas();
});
I think it should be
$(".dropArea").resize(resizeAreas);
Or
$(".dropArea").resize(function(){
resizeAreas();
});

I am trying to make this function works only when the screen size is above 1024px.
//Parallax background image
var velocity = 0.5;
function update(){
var pos = $(window).scrollTop();
$('.parallax').each(function() {
var $element = $(this);
var height = $element.height();
$(this).css('background-position', '40%' + Math.round((height - pos) * velocity) + 'px');
});
};$(window).bind('scroll', update); update();
Here is what I have tried to do:
//Parallax background image
var velocity = 0.5;
$(window).on("ready resize", function() {
if ($(window).width() < 770) {
function update(){
var pos = $(window).scrollTop();
$('.parallax').each(function() {
var $element = $(this);
var height = $element.height();
$(this).css('background-position', '40%' + Math.round((height - pos) * velocity) + 'px');
});
};});$(window).bind('scroll', update); update();
I really don't know what I am doing wrong...
You haven't stated what the problem you're coming across is. If it's "my code doesn't work", then perhaps you should check your syntax first. Your braces are messed up.
//Initialize velocity and empty update function
var velocity = 0.5;
var update = function () {};
//When window is ready (content loaded) OR resized, execute the following function
$(window).on("ready resize", function () {
if ($(window).width() >= 1024) { //Check if window width is 1024px wide or larger
update = function () { //Set update to run this function when executed.
var pos = $(window).scrollTop(); //Get scrollbar position https://api.jquery.com/scrollTop/
//For each element with 'parallax' class, execute the following function
$('.parallax').each(function () {
var $element = $(this); //Get the current parallax-classed element
var height = $element.height(); //Save the current height of this element
//Set the CSS of this parallax-classed element set the background position
$(this).css('background-position', '40% + ' + Math.round((height - pos) * velocity) + 'px');
});
};
} else { //Execute if screen width is < 1024px
update = function () {}; //Set update to do nothing
}
});
//When window is scrolled through, run the update function
$(window).bind('scroll', update);
//update();
Last line is unnecessary, as resize will handle function value, and scroll will handle the execution.
You were missing a + or - within the background-position setting.
So for example, if the result of your Math.round() was "30", then Javascript would interpret that line as $(this).css('background-position', '40%30px'); which obviously would cause issues. I'm sure you wanted it to say something like $(this).css('background-position', '40% + 30px');.
I am creating a splitscrolling website and it's working great. But i have one problem, when the user stops scrolling it fires a function called alignWhenIdle and what this does is align the columns so they become "one".
Now that is working nicely but i can't seem to target a specific part of the column that aligns. let's say when the number 2 column aligns ( see image ) i want to be able to fire an animation. I tried using a callback but that fires a function every time the columns are aligned.
This is my JS:
(function ($) {
var top = 0;
var contentHeight, contents, totalHeight;
var locked = false;
var timeout;
var align = function () {
var pos = (top + $(window).scrollTop());
var snapUp = 0 - (pos % contentHeight) < (contentHeight / 2);
var multiplier = snapUp
? Math.ceil(pos / contentHeight)
: Math.floor(pos / contentHeight);
var newTop = contentHeight * multiplier;
$('html, body').animate({ scrollTop: newTop + totalHeight }, 200);
locked = false;
};
var reset = function () {
contentHeight = $('.right').height();
contents = $('.right > .content').length;
totalHeight = contentHeight * (contents - 1);
top = (0 - totalHeight);
};
var scrollRight = function () {
$('.right').css('top', (top + $(window).scrollTop()) + 'px');
};
var alignWhenIdle = function (delay) {
clearTimeout(timeout);
timeout = setTimeout(align, delay);
};
$(document).on('ready', function () {
reset();
scrollRight();
});
$(window).on('scroll', function () {
locked = true;
scrollRight();
});
$(window).on('mouseup', function (e) {
if (locked) {
align();
}
});
$(window).resize(function () {
locked = true;
reset();
scrollRight();
alignWhenIdle(300);
});
$(window).on('mousewheel', function (e) {
alignWhenIdle(300);
});
$(window).on("keyup", function (e) {
alignWhenIdle(300);
});
})(jQuery);

Any help is much appreciated,
Cheers
See http://jsfiddle.net/5T9Y8/
Scroll till the column 2 and see result...
In the method align I've added a callback:
$('html, body').animate({ scrollTop: newTop + totalHeight }, 200, function(){
$(".animate").animate({ marginLeft: "200px" },300);
});
Works well, did you need exactly that?
EDIT
You should just check for some condition.
E.g. based on this solution Check if element is visible after scrolling you can build this:
$('html, body').animate({ scrollTop: newTop + totalHeight }, 200, function(){
if (isScrolledIntoView(".animate")) $(".animate").animate({ marginLeft: "200px" },300);
});
See updated solution here http://jsfiddle.net/5T9Y8/1/
This is only one way, I'm really sure there is a way to do it even better. E.g. you can calculate the current elements which are shown and then just find the things only inside of them.
I tried using a callback but that fires a function every time the columns are aligned.
Use one method for functioning only once instead of on.
My page works in every browser except in IE 10. When I run this page locally in IE 10 there seems to be no problem whatsoever, only when I open the page remotely with IE 10.
The JavaScript is supposed to measure the div with main text and set the height and width of the div's that are off-screen. This is done wrong by IE 10. The width of these div's has to be set because otherwise the will not animate in properly when an item from the menu is clicked.
I did a check on deprecated functions but found none.
I checked the syntax and nothing wrong there. (as far as i can see)
The console in IE does not report any errors.
Anyone any idea as for why locally it works fine in every browser, but remotely the only browser that displays it faulty is IE?
EDIT:
I have removed the function brackets at init so the DOM can initiate, although this did not fix the problem.
script (embedded in the head of the page):
<script src="scripts/jquery-1.10.1.min.js"></script>
<script>
var mainTextDiv = null;
var animate;
var acc = 0;
var currentTab = "home";
var nextTab;
var working = 0;
var bar = 600;
var divW;
function init(){
onWC(currentTab);
document.getElementById(currentTab).style.width = 'auto';
divW = document.getElementById(currentTab).offsetWidth;
document.getElementById("home").style.width = divW + "px";
document.getElementById("profile").style.width = divW + "px";
document.getElementById("news").style.width = divW + "px";
document.getElementById("forums").style.width = divW + "px";
document.getElementById("webshop").style.width = divW + "px";
document.getElementById("status").style.width = divW + "px";
}
function onWC(tab){
var divh = document.getElementById(tab).offsetHeight;
document.getElementById('tabcontainer').style.height = ( divh + 50 ) + "px";
}
function moveDiv(tabName){
if (currentTab == tabName){
return;
}
if (working == 1){
return;
}
working = 1;
nextTab = tabName;
removeDiv();
}
function removeDiv(){
mainTextDiv = document.getElementById(currentTab);
mainTextDiv.style.left = parseInt(mainTextDiv.style.left) + (0.5+acc) + "px";
if (parseInt(mainTextDiv.style.left) > 2000){
mainTextDiv.style.left = 2000 + "px";
onWC(nextTab);
getDiv();
return;
}
acc += 0.15;
animate = setTimeout(removeDiv,10);
}
function getDiv(){
mainTextDiv = document.getElementById(nextTab);
mainTextDiv.style.left = parseInt(mainTextDiv.style.left) - (0.5+acc) + "px";
if (parseInt(mainTextDiv.style.left) <= 0){
mainTextDiv.style.left = 0 + "px";
currentTab = nextTab;
working = 0;
return;
}
acc -= 0.15;
animate = setTimeout(getDiv,15);
}
window.onload = init;
window.onresize = init;
$(function() {
$("#menu ul li a").hover(
function(){
$(this).css("background-color", "#525252");
$(this).css("color", "#FFF");
},
function() {
$(this).css("background-color", "#FFF");
$(this).css("color", "#525252");
}
);
});
</script>
Change window.onresize = init(); to window.onresize = init;
As it stands, the init() is trying to run immediately when the JS file is loaded, which is throwing the error because the DOM hasn't loaded yet.
I am having below issue when trying to brows the site through navigation,
http://nickylurie.com.au/Temp/index.php
as you can see left hand site image some time load some time aren't,
i am you using below code to change the image when going through to different page,
var pic = new Image();

and below is the my backend code.
var RHigh=$('#RightPane').height()
var windHigh=$(window).height()
$(pic).hide().load(function()

$("#LeftPane").css("width",$("#LeftPaneImage").width());
$("#RightPane").css("margin-left",$("#LeftPaneImage").width()+10);
resize()
})
$(window).bind('resize', function()
{

function resize()

windHigh=$(window).height()
if( RHigh < windHigh)
{
$("#triquibackimg").css("height",$(window).height());
$("#LeftPane").css("width",$("#LeftPaneImage").width());
$("#RightPane").css("margin-left",$("#LeftPaneImage").width());
//----------------Right Pane vAlign--------------

$(this).css("margin-top", "-" + mt + "px");
$(this).css("top", "50%");
$(this).css("position", "absolute");
});
};
})(jQuery);
(function ($) {
$.fn.hAlign = function() {
return this.each(function(i){
var w = $(this).width();
var ow = $(this).outerWidth();
var ml = (w + (ow - w)) / 2;
$(this).css("margin-left", "-" + ml + "px");
$(this).css("left", $("#LeftPane").width());
$(this).css("position", "absolute");
});
};
})(jQuery);
$(document).ready(function() {
$("#RightPane").vAlign();
//$("#RightPane").hAlign();

}
else
{
$("#triquibackimg").css("height",(RHigh+150));
$("#LeftPane").css("width",$("#LeftPaneImage").width());

// if ($(window).height()>800){
// $("#RightPane").css("position",'relative');
// }
// else{$("#RightPane").css("margin-top",60)}
}
}
can some one please advice about this?
Thanks
Offtopic: I wanted to comment on this questions, because I don't have the answer (yet), its lame that I must have a repetation of 50 to comment..
Ontopic:
What are you trying to achieve and what is the problem?
When I try to view your website, all the large images on the left are loading (mac, chrome), I checked all pages..
They do load very slow..
Why do you want to insert the image by javascript and not simply by a img tag?
I have written a function that positions a tooltip just above a textbox.
The function takes two arguments:
textBoxId - The ID of the textbox above which the tooltip will appear.
Example: "#textBoxA"
toolTipId - The ID of the tooltip which will appear above the textbox.
Example: "#toolTipA"
function positionTooltip(textBoxId, toolTipId){
var hoverElementOffsetLeft = $(textBoxId).offset().left;
var hoverElementOffsetWidth = $(textBoxId)[0].offsetWidth;
var toolTipElementOffsetLeft = $(toolTipId).offset().left;
var toolTipElementOffsetWidth = $(toolTipId)[0].offsetWidth;
// calcluate the x coordinate of the center of the hover element.
var hoverElementCenterX =
hoverElementOffsetLeft + (hoverElementOffsetWidth / 2);
// calculate half the width of the toolTipElement
var toolTipElementHalfWidth = toolTipElementOffsetWidth / 2;
var toolTipElementLeft = hoverElementCenterX - toolTipElementHalfWidth;
$(toolTipId)[0].style.left = toolTipElementLeft + "px";
var toolTipElementHeight = $(toolTipId)[0].offsetHeight;
var hoverElementOffsetTop = $(textBoxId).offset().top;
var toolTipYCoord = hoverElementOffsetTop - toolTipElementHeight;
toolTipYCoord = toolTipYCoord - 10;
$(toolTipId)[0].style.top = toolTipYCoord + "px";
$(toolTipId).hide();
$(textBoxId).hover(
function(){ $(toolTipId + ':hidden').fadeIn(); },
function(){ $(toolTipId + ':visible').fadeOut(); }
);
$(textBoxId).focus (
function(){ $(toolTipId + ':hidden').fadeIn(); }
);
$(textBoxId).blur (
function(){ $(toolTipId+ ':visible').fadeOut(); }
);
}
The function works fine upon initial page load:
However, after the user resizes the window the tooltips move to locations that no longer display above their associated textbox.
I've tried writing some code to fix the problem by calling the positionTooltip() function when the window is resized but for some reason the tooltips do not get repositioned as they did when the page loaded:
var _resize_timer = null;
$(window).resize(function() {
if (_resize_timer) {clearTimeout(_resize_timer);}
_resize_timer = setTimeout(function(){
positionTooltip('#textBoxA', ('#toolTipA'));
}, 1000);
});
I'm really at a loss here as to why it doesn't reposition the tooltip correctly as it did when the page was initially loaded after a resize.
Your logic for calculating the position of the tooltip only fires initially when you call positionTooltip. You want to call it to recalculate position before the fadeIn call.
i don't understand why you use a setTimeout() to launch your function. Try
$(function(){
// all your code onDocumentReady
...
...
$(window).resize(function() {
positionTooltip('#textBoxA', ('#toolTipA'));
});
});
That worked like a charm for me, the only drawback is that sometimes it dosen't get the proper X,Y position, apparently not it's compensating with object's padding/margin values, i did a dirty fix by adding those values manually before they are set like:
toolTipElementLeft = toolTipElementLeft + 40;
$(toolTipId)[0].style.left = toolTipElementLeft + "px";
and
toolTipYCoord = toolTipYCoord + 25;
$(toolTipId)[0].style.top = toolTipYCoord + "px";
