I want to develop an instant messaging for mobile application, like whatsapp, with nodejs as my backend. I have gone through XMPP protocols and read xmpp.org documentation as well.
I referred to this link and I am able to build some of the basic XMPP functionality like creating and messaging users. But I am still unable to implement the complete functionality of XMPP in nodejs.
So: are there any node js libaries available to build the complete functionality of xmpp protocol, such as asmack? Alternatively, how do I send calls to XMPP server via XML?
XMPP is the standard for messaging. But it is not clear how Node will help you better than an established library on another platform. Node does make it a breeze to do scalable web socket apps, which work a lot better using JSON instead of XML though. So perhaps what you want to do is build a web socket IM application in Node and also implement an XMPP interface.

I am trying to develop a flutter chat app using nodejs and socketio.i'm just getting started with the socketio i have surf several examples in which every front end or client side having a set of socketio script. Can i develop my code purely server side? so that i can integrate with any type of front end.
You can do that. Socket.io is a web socket implementation in node js. It enables real-time, bidirectional and event-based communication between client and server.
Server and client can send and receive the events. If you don't want write any script in client side then you don't have any use of sockets.

Socket.io has two distinct parts - the server and the client. The docs make this clear. There is nothing preventing you from just writing the server part, and leaving the client implementation out of the equation, for someone else to implement.
Although the main point of Socket.io is to implement the WebSocket protocol, it does so by wrapping it in its own interface, so to speak. So a socket.io server can only talk to socket.io clients, not clients that implement WebSocket in other ways. That being said, there are socket.io client libraries for pretty much every major language out there:
Javascript (main client)
Java
C++
Dart/Flutter
You also asked about React and Angular, but both of those are web front-ends, so there should be no reason why they can't use the standard Javascript client library with those frameworks.
I want to add a chat app to my e-commerce website which offers one-to-one chat between the buyers and the sellers. After searching ,web sockets seems to be right for this but it requires node.js server and the rest of my website is in php with apache server. I have read that it is not good to run both apache and node server at the same time. For video chat I'm using appear.in's javascript api which has no such limitations.
How can I run the node.js app under this scenario?
There are plenty of web socket libraries for PHP, e.g. Ratchet.
If this is the only reason for you to move parts of you application to Node.js, you shouldn't necessarily do it.
I am trying to build a desktop app using electron that retrieves mail from a specific mailbox (microsoft exchange server), now, i have looked around and read that mailbox connection should be done server side (the question was made by a guy building a web based app that is a little bit similar to what i want to do), but, since i am not really deploying a node js server but rather using electron, which, as far as i understand is like a desktop app version of node, im not sure on which approach to take. Should i use an api? does microsoft has any interface for this? or should i use a third party integration for it?
It looks like the Exchange Web Services API is only provided as a CLR assembly, so if you wanted to use it you'd need to:
write a C# console app that you then spawn from your Electron app
(and communicate via stdin/stdout), or
use the EWS API in your Electron app via Edge.js
Alternatively, you could probably just directly communicate with the exchange server using SOAP messages, but that could be a bit tedious to implement.
There is a server I need to talk to that publishes a protocol over TCP/IP for querying data from a database and listening on a socket to receive notifications when data is updated. The sever guys provide a Java API which uses this TCP protocol. This means I could easily write a Swing App to talk to this server.
I would like a browser based solution. As the protocol is known to me, could I do this in JavaScript? My app will have to display the data in a table. I have heard of Web Sockets but I'm not sure if it will allow this two way communication. Is it feasible? Is there a better way that is cross platform and will work in most browsers? Should I be considering a Java Swing based solution that runs inside a browser?
EDIT: What about changing the code in my C++ server to add an additional interface that my Javascript code can communicate directly with it?
The WebSocket protocol differs from TCP/IP sockets. You will have to write something to link them together.
You can do this perfectly well in JavaScript: use Node.js. There's enough tutorials to be found on the subject. The best way to link it to your in-browser JS is through Socket.IO.
Create a Node.js server that connects to the api
Make the server talk to your web app
Use it :)
This will work cross-platform and cross-browser (Socket.IO can use/emulate websockets even on IE6(!!)). You'll have to run a server-app (the Node.js app) though.
My personal opinion is that if you want a web/browser based solution, you should use native technology, and not Java.

Introduction: I want to develop the chat client that user can chat on the browser and I use the protocol call xmpp. Because of HTML5 web socket not yet available I try flash xmlsocket instead.
Problem: I cannot connect to the server via browser. I'm not sure why, but I think that it is the problem of the server configuration.
Question: Which is the best jabber server suitable for this job?
Most probably this is a permission issue. Either that or you've just configured the wrong host/port to connect to. Flash is not allowed to connect to other hosts than the one it was gotten from itself. You have to explicitely allow flash connections on the receiving side of the request (so on the chat server that you are connecting to). Google for crossdomain.xml to get more info.
ejabberd sounds like a suitable option for you. ejabberd is xmpp server written in erlang and is used quite widely. Many of the well known web based im services like www.meebo.com etc are known to be running on ejabberd. It allows you to install other transports which would let you enable talking to users of other protocol like yahoo, msn, icq etc.
You can also have a look at the xiff action script library by ignite realtime. It is an xmpp client library in action script. If you use this library you would just need to implement the ui components.
Hum... flash is ok, but you'd be better of using something like BOSH, which is basically an HTTP layer over XMPP.
Ejabberd would be a good server, as it supports BOSH, I don't know about OpenFire or Tigase (but I'd say they do). Other servers should be looked at carefully because they don't seem to have a "dynamic" community.
You will need a lot of Javascript, and for that, I can recommend StropheJS, which is probably the very best library out there today.
