CSS Text Fade In/Out to Different Text - javascript

Basically, on a website I want to display a number of elements in the same space one after the other with a fade effect to transition between them; this would be used to display quotes from customers on a website. I've achieved this before using images and using CSS effects to fade in/out from the first to the last and it looked good, the only issue is the fact that obviously images have sizing issues when it comes to making the site responsive, and the images take up unnecessary space on the server and effect loading times, depending on how many are used. My question is simple to ask if anyone knows of a more efficient way of creating a similar effect that can use plain text instead of images? Possibly by hiding all text bar one line within an element and then fading to the next line? Preferably using only CSS but js answers are welcome too. Thanks in advance!

What's the best way to preload all types of images?

I want to preload all images on my page.
My page has some images used directly as links, i.e. as img tags within an a tag, as well as some images which are in the background-image property of some spans.
What's the best way to preload them all? I notice that a lot of the preload scripts seem to assume that the images will be loaded within image tags. For example, I've implemented this script: http://www.javascriptkit.com/javatutors/preloadimagesplus.shtml
But it doesn't make a difference on my page where certain spans when hovered over should have a new background. There's still a pause on my page when the user hovers over an element, before the right images background shows up.
Edit
I know about using sprites, my question is asking for a solution apart from sprites.
The following jQuery plugin was featured on http://www.unheap.com a while ago. Could this be of service?

I do notice that the Github repository is "unavailable due to DMCA takedown", but maybe it could point you in the right direction.
Another solution might be this plugin:

jQuery Random Particles Overlay on Element?

I'm wondering is it possible to achieve following effect via jQuery http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zlb6o_R_WoI
So particles overlay image, are random fade in and out etc? I've looked for plugins or experiments, but wasn't able to find anything closely similar.
Another question that appears is how big of an impact would such effect have in a browser? e.g if there are 8 images each has particle effect, however only one particle effect is displayed at a time others are hidden, lets say with Display None.
Here's a little something to get you started on HTML5 animation and changing the opacity over time (fade in/fade out). You can mess around with getting the random movement and stuff going, and feel free to ask me questions if you can't figure out what I did.

jQuery responsive banner auto resize images and content to fit space

I want to create custom banner or download one.
The banner has following requirement,
I could add images and text in this banner.
On each slide you can add multiple images and text, for an example slide one has two images and text on sides, then slide two has three images and text on the sides.
IMPORTANT – if the images are small thumbnails the text should fill the blank areas or around the image. The banner should be responsive to the element inside (could be an div). If the image is big the text should go underneath the
image or on the side.
slides left or right
left and right navigation button, as well pagination
Example: http://www.bbc.co.uk - main banner at the top
I had a look on the internet i tried the following:
flexslider - very good, meet all the requirements apart from point 3. but dont know how to make it responsive.
orbit slider - good but flexslider it easier to style.
Note: this banner will not be used on mobile device.
Seems like you didn't get any answers because there's no such thing as a perfect finished solution. It's not difficult to change any of the mentioned sliders and make them responsive IF you know some css. I'd suggest that, depending on how many of these works you want to do, you give it a try. You can find good free tutorials online.
I found this one plugin though, worth a try: http://marktyrrell.com/labs/blueberry/

Change z-index of div with fade effect on mouse over

I have 4 images stacked on top of each other, see below:
I'm trying to achieve two things:
When the mouse is over an image that is in the background, that
image should come to the foreground with a fading effect. There is
also different text below each image, that text should come to the
foreground. (no fading needed there)
The result should be like this:
Every 10-15 seconds (without user input), the next image on the right should fade in
automatically.
Technically, I thought about putting each image and text into a separate div, and playing with the z-order. The fading effect could maybe be achieved using jquery, but I've not used that before, unfortunately.
Any example code, specific help or pointers is greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Although it's impossible to control the fade of an element through his z-index
we can always trick what our eyes see.
DEMO GALLERY
To achieve that we can do:
Insert into our gallery a DIV element that will grab the src attribute of the current image and set it as his background image
hide the current image, position the DIV on this image .position()
fade our DIV in/out
reset image visibility
Let me know if you have some issues, I can comment my code to make clearer the steps I used.
Happy coding
Take a look at this plugin. Just explore it, this has got 100s of different effects which you might like to use in your case.

Looking for simple slideshow with previous and next navigation

I just need to display the images in the very center of the page. The images will be different widths but should still be centered. I have custom arrow pointers and I want the other images to be hidden while the other fades out and a new one in.
I've found jquery cycle and stuff but I couldn't center the slideshow to the center of the page for some strange reason.
Any advice?
What plugins can I alter (just replace images) to get what I want?
http://www.proglogic.com/learn/javascript/lesson10.php
not sure if you are still looking for this, as its been awhile since your post - but this is a very simple slideshow using javascript and a table. the image is displayed with "previous" and "next" links below, which can of course be changed to whatever you want. the only possible issue is that it uses html tables which are frowned upon (unless completely necessary). it is however, very easily center-able using css. good luck!
Checkout Anything Slider. That seems to be what you are looking for.
