Validating if the radio button group is selected JQUERY - javascript

I'm trying to validate the radio button group,. if not check the span will have a text which indicates that the radio button must be selected,. the problem is,. if I place the codes of radion button validation on top, it does not work, but when it is below,. it works.. Kinda weird,. any idea for this one? thanks
$("#mchoice").submit(function () {
var direction = $('#direction').val();
var quiztxtBox = document.getElementsByName('quiztxtBox[]');
var isSubmit;
var names = [];
var err = document.getElementsByName('errMchoice[]');
// For radio button answers.
$('input[type="radio"]').each(function(){
names[$(this).attr('name')] = true;
});
if (!direction)
{
$('#direction').focus();
$('#direction').css({"background-color":"#f6d9d4"});
$('#direction').nextAll('span').html('Type in direction.');
event.preventDefault();
}
else
{
$('#direction').css({"background-color":"#fff"});
$('#direction').nextAll('span').html("");
}
for(correct_answer in names)
{
var radio_buttons = $("input[name='" + correct_answer + "']");
if( radio_buttons.filter(':checked').length == 0)
{
radio_buttons.nextAll('span').html('Select the answer.');
event.preventDefault();
}
else
{
radio_buttons.nextAll('span').html('');
}
}
// Choices fields
$("[name='quiztxtBox[]']").each(function(){
if (!this.value.length)
{
$(this).css({"background-color":"#f6d9d4"}).siblings('span.errorMsg').text('Please type in question/answer!');
event.preventDefault();
}
else
{
$(this).css({"background-color":"#fff"}).siblings('span.errorMsg').text("");
}
});

There was a small logical error in your javascript.
Once you set the span with error message of 'Select an answer' you are doing a checking if the question has been filled. If it has been filled then you are making the span text empty.
So instead of that, keep a flag to see if the answer was selected or not. If not selected then set the flag and in later part of the code, don't empty span text

HTML - Input text pattern/required attributes conflict with submission

This simple form is part of a larger web app I have created. Both the required attributes and the pattern attributes only work intermittently. Changing the event listener to "submit" rather than "click" makes the form validation work properly, but then I get a blank page when I submit with the proper input formatting.
var v = "userForm"
document.getElementById("clockIn").addEventListener("click", addLine); //CHANGE TO CLICK FOR WORKING PAGE BUT PATTERN WONT WORK
function addLine() {
//e.preventDefault();
var firstName = document.getElementById("fname").value;
var lastName = document.getElementById("lname").value;
var jobNumber = document.getElementById("jnum").value;
var process = document.querySelector('input[name="operation"]:checked').value;
var comment = document.getElementById("comment").value;
var timeIn = new Date().toLocaleString();
var info = [firstName, lastName, jobNumber, process, timeIn, comment];
google.script.run.addEntry(info);
document.getElementById("fname").value = "";
document.getElementById("lname").value = "";
document.getElementById("jnum").value = "";
document.getElementById("comment").value = "";
document.querySelector('input[name="operation"]:checked').checked = false;
alert("Submitted");
}

Thanks for the help.
I think I have narrowed the problem down to something to do with the event listener. My thought is that when the "click" event is used, the function runs before the fields are validated by the browser. Yet, I just get a blank page if I use the "submit" event. The function "addEntry" doesn't appear to run; the logged data doesn't appear. Same goes for "addLine" when I add an alert. I have isolated the regex code and verified it works as expected.
Edit: I found that when I remove the event listener on the submit button and add an onsubmit (onsubmit="addLine()") attribute to the form, the alert in "addLine" appears. The "Submitted" alert also appears. Still a blank page after.
Your validation fails but that is outside the scope of the question as I see it since you need to check the actual values before you let it submit and probably need a preventDefault() on the form if any fail.
You get an error because you cannot filter by :checked unless you then determine if that is null OR filter it after you get the nodeList.
Here I show a couple of ways to handle the radio buttons; up to you to determine which suits you.
var v = "userForm"
document.getElementById("clockIn").addEventListener("click", addLine); //CHANGE TO CLICK FOR WORKING PAGE BUT PATTERN WONT WORK
function addLine() {
//e.preventDefault();
var firstName = document.getElementById("fname").value;
var lastName = document.getElementById("lname").value;
var jobNumber = document.getElementById("jnum").value;
//demonstrate a few ways to hanlde the radio buttons:
const procOne = document.querySelector('input[name="operation"]:checked');
console.log(!!procOne ? procOne.value : procOne, typeof procOne); // null and object if none are checked
let processValue = procOne === null && typeof procOne === "object" ? "" : procOne.value;
// querySelectorAll to get all of them so we can filter the list
const processAll = document.querySelectorAll('input[name="operation"]');
// creates an array like object of the nodelist; then filters it for checked ones
const checkProcess = [...processAll].filter(item => item.checked);
console.log("How many?:", processAll.length);
console.log("How many checked?:", checkProcess.length);
console.log(checkProcess.length ? checkProcess.value : "nothing");
// anther way to get value:
processValue = checkProcess.length ? checkProcess.value : "nothing"
if (checkProcess.length !== 0) { //Test if something was checked
console.log(checkProcess.value); // the value of the checked.
} else {
console.log('Nothing checked'); // nothing was checked.
}
var comment = document.getElementById("comment").value;
var timeIn = new Date().toLocaleString();
let process = processValue;
var info = [firstName, lastName, jobNumber, process, timeIn, comment];
//ccommented out as google is not defined
//google.script.run.addEntry(info);
// hitting the DOM again is not a great thing here but left as not part of the question/issue
document.getElementById("fname").value = "";
document.getElementById("lname").value = "";
document.getElementById("jnum").value = "";
document.getElementById("comment").value = "";
// cannot filter by :checked if none are so check first and set to false
if (procOne != null) procOne.checked = false;
alert("Submitted");

Condition: input:checked with the same class

I would like to have a little help on an enigma that I have.
I have a button that changes according to the number of input:checked
but I would like to add a condition which is: select of the checkboxes of the same class.
for example can I have 2 or more input.
<input class="banana" type="checkbox" value="Cavendish">
<input class="banana" type="checkbox" value="Goldfinger">
<input class="chocolato" type="checkbox" value="cocoa powder">
<input class="chocolato" type="checkbox" value="milk chocolate">
<input class="apple" type="checkbox" value="honneycrisp">
<input class="apple" type="checkbox" value="granny smith">
I can't use attribute name or value. it is not possible to modify the inputs.
the condition:
$('input[type="checkbox"]').click(function(){
if($('input[type="checkbox"]:checked').length >=2){
////////
if (my classes are the same) {
$('#btn').html("click me").prop('disabled', false);
} else {
$('#btn').html("too bad").prop('disabled', true);
}
//////
}
I try with
var checkClass = [];
$.each($("input[type="checkbox"]:checked"), function() {
checkClass.push($(this).attr('class'));
});
I don't know if I'm going the right way or if I'm complicating the code but a little help would be welcome. For the moment my attempts have been unsuccessful.
The following function will reference the first checkbox that's checked className and enable each checkbox that has said className whilst disabling all other checkboxes. Details are commented in Snippet.
// All checkboxes
const all = $(':checkbox');
// Any change event on any checkbox run function `matchCategory`
all.on('change', matchCategory);
function matchCategory() {
// All checked checkboxes
const checked = $(':checkbox:checked');
let category;
// if there is at least one checkbox checked...
if (checked.length > 0) {
// ...enable (.btn)...
$('.btn').removeClass('off');
// ...get the class of the first checked checkbox...
category = checked[0].className;
// ...disable ALL checkboxes...
all.attr('disabled', true);
// ...go through each checkbox...
all.each(function() {
// if THIS checkbox has the class defined as (category)...
if ($(this).is('.' + category)) {
// ...enable it
$(this).attr('disabled', false);
// Otherwise...
} else {
// ...disable and uncheck it
$(this).attr('disabled', true).prop('checked', false);
}
});
// Otherwise...
} else {
// ...enable ALL checkboxes...
all.attr('disabled', false);
// ...disable (.btn)
$('.btn').addClass('off');
}
return false;
}
.off {
pointer-events: none;
opacity: 0.4;
}

JQuery No radio button checked issue

I have a series of randomly generated textbox and radio-button inputs. It's kinda like a Quiz, so what I would like to do is collect all of the inputs and send them to the server so it can evaluate them.
Now, to make it easier, I put all of the radio-button inputs to the end.
I use the following code to collect the inputs of the textbox-types:
$('#button_submit').click(function() {
var answer_list = '';
$('input:text').each(function(index,data) {
answer_list = answer_list + '$' + $(data).val();
}
...
}
This works perfectly, but after this, I don't know what to do. I could loop through the input:radio:checked elements and add the value of those to my string, which would work perfectly, except if the user decides to submit their answers while leaving one of the radio-button inputs empty. In that case, nothing gets added to the string and the server will be missing the answer to that question and it messes everything up.
So I need to add something to my string when the code realizes that there is a radio-button question, but no answer was chosen, but I have no idea how to do it.
Edit:
HTML example:
<div class="form-group" id="form-group-34">
<label class="control-label " for="question">What is 92848 × 71549?</label>
<input autofocus="true" class="form-control" id="input34" name="answer" size="20" type="text" value="">
</div>
<div class="form-group" id="form-group-35">
<label class="control-label " for="question">Is 194 divisible by 3?</label>
<br><input id="14-answer-0" name="14-answer" type="radio" value="1">
<label for="14-answer-0">Yes</label>
<br><input id="14-answer-1" name="14-answer" type="radio" value="0">
<label for="14-answer-1">No</label>
</div>
<div class="form-group" id="form-group-36">
<label class="control-label " for="question">Determine the day of the week for 1954 Jun 26!</label>
<br><input id="35-answer-0" name="35-answer" type="radio" value="1">
<label for="35-answer-0">Monday</label>
<br><input id="35-answer-1" name="35-answer" type="radio" value="2">
<label for="35-answer-1">Tuesday</label>
<br><input id="35-answer-2" name="35-answer" type="radio" value="3">
<label for="35-answer-2">Wednesday</label>
<br><input id="35-answer-3" name="35-answer" type="radio" value="4">
<label for="35-answer-3">Thursday</label>
<br><input id="35-answer-4" name="35-answer" type="radio" value="5">
<label for="35-answer-4">Friday</label>
<br><input id="35-answer-5" name="35-answer" type="radio" value="6">
<label for="35-answer-5">Saturday</label>
<br><input id="35-answer-6" name="35-answer" type="radio" value="0">
<label for="35-answer-6">Sunday</label>
</div>
But the problem is, that these questions are randomly generated. So there can be 5 simple textbox-type inputs, then 5 radio-button type ones, or there might be only 1 radio-button type question, and all of their attributes are generated dynamically, so I can't really put the radio-button group's name in the code, because I don't know it.
You could use this to see if they are all checked:
var allRadios = $('input[name="namevalue"][type=radio]').length;
var allCheckedRadios $('input[name="namevalue"][type=radio]').filter(function() {
return this.checked;
}).length;
if( allRadios == allCheckedRadios){
// do what you need
}
whatever your name is change "namevalue" to that. The same basic logic to get the values can be applied.
Note: performance gain for modern browsers on these selector forms above over $('input:radio') can be had.
EDIT From updated question:
Here I applied the techniques above to walk through each of the form groups looking for radio buttons, and if they exist throw an alert if none are checked within that group. You could also create and return a Boolean value if ANY of the groups have radio selections with none selected. "hasUncheckedRadios" will be either 0 if none are checked or 1 if one is checked - since radio buttons within a group only select one. You could use this logic in your validation to ensure that all of the groups have a valid checked radio button (IF they contain a radio that is);
function checkRadios() {
var allGroups = $('.form-group');
allGroups.each(function() {
var allRadios = $(this).find('input[type=radio]').length;
var hasUncheckedRadios = $(this).find('input[type=radio]').filter(function() {
return this.checked;
}).length;
console.log('total:' + allRadios + ' checked:' + hasUncheckedRadios);
// if allRadios is > 0 then radios exist and hasUncheckedRadios == 0 none are checked
if (allRadios && !hasUncheckedRadios) {
alert("Form Group" + $(this).attr('id') + " has radio buttons unaswered");
}
});
}
$('#checkem').on('click', function() {
console.log('checking...');
checkRadios();
});

loop class group that has radio then use .prop("checked")
var frmGroup= 0, checked= 0;
$('.form-group').each(function(index) {
if ($(this).children('input:radio').length > 0) {
frmGroup++;
$(this).children('input:radio').each(function(index) {
if ($(this).prop("checked") == true) {
checked++;
}
});
}
});
if(frmGroup != checked)...

Using DOM to create an input

I currently have been working on this code and I can't seem to figure it out. I am planning to make it so that if the radio button is pressed that shipping is not free, that an input field pops up to specifying what the addition cost will be using DOM. I am also trying to figure out how to add text to describe the input field, and to validate the input field.
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<head>
</head>
<body>
<script>
function myFunction() {
var x = document.createElement("INPUT");
var c = 1;
if (c = 1) {
x.setAttribute("type", "text");
var sp2 = document.getElementById("emailP");
// var br = document.createElement("br");
// sp2.appendChild(br);
// alert("added break");
var sp2 = document.getElementById("emailP");
var parentDiv = sp2.parentNode;
parentDiv.insertBefore(x, sp2);
c++;
alert("Added Text Box");
}
}
</script>
<form action="#" method="post" onsubmit="alert('Your form has been submitted.'); return false;">
<p class="boldParagraph">Upload an Image:</p>
<input type="file" id="pic" accept="image/*" required>
<p class="boldParagraph">Name of seller:</p>
<input class="averageTextBox" type="text" id="seller" value="" required>
<p class="boldParagraph" id = "tip3P">Shipping costs are free:</p>
<input type="radio" name="tip3" value="3" checked /> Yes
<input type="radio" name="tip3" value="4" onclick="myFunction(); this.onclick=null;"/> No
<p class="boldParagraph" id = "emailP">Email of seller:</p>
<input class="averageTextBox" type="email" id="emailAddress" value="" required>
<p class="boldParagraph">Closing date for auction:</p>
<input type="date" id="closeDate" value="" required>
<br><br>
<button>Submit</button>
</form>
</body>
</html>
Create a label element and populate text using innerHTML. and then append to DOM.
Example Snippet:
function myFunction() {
var label = document.createElement("label");
label.innerHTML = "<br>Shipment Cost : ";
var x = document.createElement("INPUT");
var c = 1;
if (c = 1) {
x.setAttribute("type", "text");
var sp2 = document.getElementById("emailP");
// var br = document.createElement("br");
// sp2.appendChild(br);
// alert("added break");
var sp2 = document.getElementById("emailP");
var parentDiv = sp2.parentNode;
parentDiv.insertBefore(x, sp2);
parentDiv.insertBefore(label, x);
c++;
alert("Added Text Box");
}
}
<form action="#" method="post" onsubmit="alert('Your form has been submitted.'); return false;">
<p class="boldParagraph">Upload an Image:</p>
<input type="file" id="pic" accept="image/*" required>
<p class="boldParagraph">Name of seller:</p>
<input class="averageTextBox" type="text" id="seller" value="" required>
<p class="boldParagraph" id="tip3P">Shipping costs are free:</p>
<input type="radio" name="tip3" value="3" checked />Yes
<input type="radio" name="tip3" value="4" onclick="myFunction(); this.onclick=null;" />No
<p class="boldParagraph" id="emailP">Email of seller:</p>
<input class="averageTextBox" type="email" id="emailAddress" value="" required>
<p class="boldParagraph">Closing date for auction:</p>
<input type="date" id="closeDate" value="" required>
<br>
<br>
<button>Submit</button>
</form>
OR
You can keep the text box hidden and show it when user clicks no. Also, apply validations only when no is selected for shipment radio button.
I suggest use jQuery, see the snippet below:
jQuery is a fast, small, and feature-rich JavaScript library. It makes things like HTML document traversal and manipulation, event handling, animation, and Ajax much simpler with an easy-to-use API that works across a multitude of browsers. With a combination of versatility and extensibility, jQuery has changed the way that millions of people write JavaScript.
var radioButtons = $("[name=tip3]");
radioButtons.on("change", function() {
if ($("[name=tip3]:checked").val() == "3") {
$("#shipmentDetail").hide();
} else {
$("#shipmentDetail").show();
}
})
$("#submit").on("click", function() {
var flag = true;
if ($("[name=tip3]:checked").val() == "4") {
if ($("#shipmentDetail").val() == "") {
flag = false;
alert("enter some value");
}
}
//other validations here
if (flag) {
$("#form").submit()
}
})
#shipmentDetail {
display: none
}
<script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/2.1.1/jquery.min.js"></script>
<form id="form" action="#" method="post">
<p class="boldParagraph">Upload an Image:</p>
<input type="file" id="pic" accept="image/*" required>
<p class="boldParagraph">Name of seller:</p>
<input class="averageTextBox" type="text" id="seller" value="" required>
<p class="boldParagraph" id="tip3P">Shipping costs are free:</p>
<input type="radio" name="tip3" value="3" checked />Yes
<input type="radio" name="tip3" value="4" />No
<label id="shipmentDetail" for="price">Shipment Cost:
<input id="price" type="text" value="" />
</label>
<p class="boldParagraph" id="emailP">Email of seller:</p>
<input class="averageTextBox" type="email" id="emailAddress" value="" required>
<p class="boldParagraph">Closing date for auction:</p>
<input type="date" id="closeDate" value="" required>
<br>
<br>
<button id="submit">Submit</button>
</form>
replace
alert("Added Text Box");
with:
var additional_fees = prompt("Type in");
x.setAttribute("value", additional_fees)

Radio Button Javascript

I have radiobuttons like below:
Apple
<input type="radio" id="one" name="apple" data-price="10" value="light"/> Light
<input type="radio" id="two" name="apple" data-price="20" value="dark" /> Dark
<input type="text" id="appleqty" name="appleqty" value="" />
Mango
<input type="radio" id="three" name="Mango" data-price="30" value="light"/> Light
<input type="radio" id="one" name="Mango" data-price="40" value="dark" /> Dark
<input type="text" id="Mangoqty" name="Mangoqty" value="" />
Pine Apple
<input type="radio" id="four" name="Pineapple" data-price="50" value="light"/> Light
<input type="radio" id="five" name="Pineapple" data-price="60" value="dark" /> Dark
<input type="text" id="Pineappleqty" name="Pineappleqty" value="" />
Grape
<input type="radio" id="six" name="Grape" data-price="70" value="light"/> Light
<input type="radio" id="seven" name="Grape" data-price="80" value="dark" /> Dark
<input type="text" id="Pineappleqty" name="Pineappleqty" value="" />

The radiobuttons are separated in a Group as (Apple,Mango,Pineapple,Grape).
I need to add the Price with the Quantity he needs.
Example:
If a user clicked Dark Apple in the radiobutton with 1 Qty the Price should be 20 and if the user changed the clicked Radio to the Light Apple radiobutton then the price should be 10 - 20(Previous Price If Checked) = 10 .
Is this possible using JavaScript?
My code that I have tried:
function upprice(ref)
{
var elname = ref.getAttribute("name");
var qtyname = elname+"qty";
var price = ref.getAttribute("proprice");
var qty = parseInt(document.getElementById(qtyname).value)
var newprice = parseInt(price*qty);
var olprice = parseInt(document.getElementById("orderpagepriceinstant").innerHTML);
var totalprice = parseInt(olprice+newprice);
document.getElementById("orderpagepriceinstant").innerHTML = parseInt(totalprice)
}
Your inputs should be something like:
<input type="radio" name="apple" value="10">Light
<input type="radio" name="apple" value="20">Dark
<input type="text" name="appleqty" value="">
You can put a click listener on the radio buttons and a change listener on the quantity to update the price:
<input type="radio" onclick="updatePrice(this)" ...>
<input type="text" onclick="updatePrice(this)" ...>
and the update function is:
function updatePrice(el) {
var priceEach, quantity, itemValue;
if (el.type == 'radio') {
priceEach = getRBValue(el);
quantity = el.form[el.name + 'qty'].value;
} else if (el.type == 'text') {
quantity = el.value;
priceEach = getRBValue(el.form[el.name.replace(/qty$/,'')]);
}
/*
code here to validate the value of quantity
*/
itemValue = quantity * priceEach;
/*
do something with itemValue
*/
alert(itemValue);
}
// Get the value of a radio button set
function getRBValue(el) {
var buttons;
// See if have been passed a button or button set (NodeList)
if (el.type == 'radio') {
buttons = el.form[el.name];
} else if (typeof el.length == 'number') {
buttons = el;
}
if (buttons) {
for (var i=0, iLen=buttons.length; i<iLen; i++) {
if (buttons[i].checked) {
return buttons[i].value;
}
}
}
}
</script>
The markup, you can also add a click listener to the form to do updates rather than on each radio button. You should also have a reset button so the user can clear the form.
<form ... >
<input type="radio" name="apple" value="10" onclick="updatePrice(this)">Light
<input type="radio" name="apple" value="20" onclick="updatePrice(this)">Dark
<input type="text" name="appleqty" value="" onchange="updatePrice(this)">
<br>
<input type="reset">
</form>
Here's a quick jQuery example: http://jsfiddle.net/FTscC/
(laptop dying, I'll elaborate when I can tomorrow!)
