I want to make a custom dropdown menu so that's why I'm making it with divs. If you get on the site(deutsch language for example), you should see deutsch in the 'dropmenu',
but it doesn't happen because I can't hide/show it. For so far it works on the english one, because the first div won't hide( see my jquery for this ), the problem begins when I use the same script in boths headers.
Any help would be preciated! Thank you.
I know this is not the best way to do, but I'm moving in a dropmenu this way:
HTML:
<nav class="language">
<a id="languageSelected" href="javascript:void(0)"></a>
<ul id="Listlanguage"></ul>
</nav>
JS:
switch(window.location.href.split('/')[4].substr(0,2)){
case 'pt':
$('#Listlanguage').append(
'<li><a rel="en-us" href="/'+Site+'/en-us">en - us</a><li>'+
'<li><a rel="'+LinkEsp.replace(/\s+/g, '')+'" href="/'+Site+'/'+LinkEsp.replace(/\s+/g, '')+'">'+LinkEsp+'</a><li>'
);
break;
case 'en':
$('#Listlanguage').append(
'<li><a rel="pt-br" href="/'+Site+'/pt-br">pt - br</a><li>'+
'<li><a rel="'+LinkEsp.replace(/\s+/g, '')+'" href="/'+Site+'/'+LinkEsp.replace(/\s+/g, '')+'">'+LinkEsp+'</a><li>'
);
break;
case 'es':
$('#Listlanguage').append(
'<li><a rel="pt-br" href="/'+Site+'/pt-br">pt - br</a><li>'+
'<li><a rel="en-us" href="/'+Site+'/en-us">en - us</a><li>'
);
break;
default:
$('#Listlanguage').append(
'<li><a rel="pt-br" href="/'+Site+'/pt-br">pt - br</a><li>'+
'<li><a rel="en-us" href="/'+Site+'/en-us">en - us</a><li>'+
'<li><a rel="'+LinkEsp.replace(/\s+/g, '')+'" href="/'+Site+'/'+LinkEsp.replace(/\s+/g, '')+'">'+LinkEsp+'</a><li>'
);
break;
}
PS: I know, it's not pretty to see.

I have the following code which currently runs when #a-div has focus
jQuery(document).ready(function(){
jQuery('#a-div').focus(function(){
if ( $( "#tab3" ).is( ".tab-pane.active" ) ) {
$( "#another-div" ).hide();
}
});
});
But instead id like it to run when #tab3 has the following class .tab-pane.active
jQuery(document).ready(function(){
jQuery('#tab3').is( ".tab-pane.active" )(function(){
$( "#another-div" ).hide();
});
});
But I haven't got the correct syntax.
Any help would be very much appreciated, many thanks in advance!
To get your code working on document ready:
jQuery(document).ready(function(){
if(jQuery('#tab3').is( ".tab-pane.active" )){
$( "#another-div" ).hide();
}
});
This snippet is using only jQuery and no external libraries. But it serves to show you how to do this.
Just add a click event handler on the class tab-pane and check if the clicked element has the class active.
The other code in this snippet just mimics the tab's switching classes. Every time a class has been clicked, it'll toggle the div with class output
I hope this is what you are searching for.
$(".tab-pane").click(function() {
//Ignore this code, since it's mimicking the change of tabs
changeTab($(this));
var tab = parseInt($(this).data("tab"));
switch(tab)
{
case 1:
$(".output").css("border", "2px dashed red");
break;
case 2:
$(".output").css("border", "2px dotted blue");
break;
default:
case 3:
$(".output").css("border", "2px solid black");
break;
}
$("#tabnr").html(tab);
});
function changeTab(pEl)
{
$(".tab-pane").each(function() {
$(this).removeClass("active");
});
pEl.addClass("active");
}
.tab-pane {
height: 100px;

}

I've been lurking w3schools for some time and studying javaScript. I've struggled for a few days with a code of which the function is to open and then close the opened menu on click again. I couldn't do this with a single , but I've managed to it with two.
I've managed to do this with the following method:
<div id="menuClosed" style="background: blue; color: white; width: 500px; height: 50px; transition: 0.3s">
<p id="menuString" style="margin: auto; text-align:center;">
Click on the button to open the menu
</p>
<button id="menuButton" onclick="changeStyle('Closed')" style="margin-left:250px;">Open</button>
<div>
<p style="font-size: 30px; text-align:center;">Bonefish</p>
</div>
<button id="menuButton2" onclick="changeStyle('Open')" style = "margin-left:250px; display: none;">Close</button>
</div>
<script>
function changeStyle(idMenu) {
//compresses OPEN and CLOSE buttons ID into a var
var menuButton = document.getElementById("menuButton");
var menuBotton2 = document.getElementById("menuButton2");
//Compresses menu DIV's ID into a var
var menuConfig = document.getElementById("menu" + idMenu);
//styles that will serve as factor for opening/closing the menu
var style1 = "background: blue; color: white; width: 500px; height: 50px; transition: 0.3s";
var style2 = "background: blue; color: white; width: 500px; height: 150px; transition: 0.3s";
//opens Menu and changes ID to "menuOpen"
if (idMenu === "Closed") {
menuConfig.style = style2;
menuConfig.id = "menuOpen";
menuButton.style = "display: none; margin-left:250px;";
menuButton2.style = "margin-left:250px; display: initial;"
}
//Closes menu and chages ID to "menuClosed"
if (idMenu === "Open") {
menuConfig.style = style1;
menuConfig.id = "menuClosed";
menuButton.style = "display: initial; margin-left:250px;";
menuButton2.style = "margin-left:250px; display: none;";
}
}
</script>
What I actually wanted to do, is to be able to both open and close the menu with the same button, but I can't figure out how.
I believe it can be done through changing <button id="menuButton" onclick="changeStyle('Closed')" style="margin-left:250px;">Open</button> changeStyle('Closed') into changeStyle('Open') and making necessary adjustments, but, again, my tries on that have failed.
Thanks by advance.
If you could use jQuery and some css, it you'll get what you want

The first item works fine, You add the item, It updates the total.
Add a second item, It subtracts the new item value from the old one.
Remove the first item and it adds the value to the total.
It's a little messed up, it randomly adds and subtracts.
I'm really not sure why it's causing this, so I came here.
Any ideas what I'm doing what?
Thanks in advance!

Inu, in addition to fixing the if(action = 0) bug, you might also like to consider the following :
attach click handlers in javascript, not as HTML attributes.
things will simplify with more carefully chosen jQuery selectors and method chaining.
by delegating click handling to static wrappers (#selected and #my), you can avoid the need to dynamically swap out 'addItem' and 'remItem'. The click action of each item will be automatically determined by the current wrapper.
in the click handlers, this refers to the clicked a element, therefore no need to rediscover it with a jQuery selector, and .closest() will avoid the need to find items by id.
to maintain a reliable total, you should really recalculate from scratch by looping through all items, rather than applying deltas.
by putting values in spans with the '$' outisde, you can get the values directly, without stripping out the symbol.
Put everything together and you should end up with something like this :
HTML
....
<div class="value">$ <span>11.40</span></div>
....
Javascript
$('#my').on('click', '.item a', function(e) {
e.preventDefault();
$(this).closest('.item').insertAfter("#selected h1");
calcTotal();
});
$('#selected').on('click', '.item a', function(e) {
e.preventDefault();
$(this).closest('.item').insertAfter("#my h1");
calcTotal();
});
function calcTotal(item, sign) {
var total = 0;
$("#selected .value span").each(function() {
total += Number($(this).text());
});
$(".total").text(total);
}
untested
You are using the assignment operator = here: if(action=0){ when you should be using the comparisson operator == as if(action==0){
I am new to this so please bear with me if my question is obviously stupid. I am trying to incorporate the slideshow as shown in this site using caroufredsel http://coolcarousels.frebsite.nl/c/48/
Now I needed to add captions to the images. so after trying to tweak the code unsuccessfully, I created a workaround where I created another carousel for just the captions and synchronized it with the main carousel. It worked that the captions appeared just fine but now I am not able to synchronize it with the click function/feature on the main carousel. if I comment the click function out , it works splendidly, but I need that click function. what am I doing wrong or is there an easier way to do what I want. I went thru the documentation and tried to incorporate a new div with id "item". but then the entire "pager" section disappears etc. I will include the full code here. thanks in advance for the help.

newSrc = data.items.visible.attr('src').split('/large/').join('/small/'),
$t = $thumbs.find('img:first-child[src="' + newSrc + '"]').parent();
$t.trigger('slideTo', [$('img[src="' + oldSrc + '"]', $t), 'next']);
}
}
});
// create thumb carousels
var $thumbs = $('.thumb');

responsive:true,
items: {
start: i+1,
visible: 1,
width: 112,

}
});
// click the carousel---> comment out this portion to disable the click function on small images
$(this).click(function() {
var src = $(this).children().first().attr('src').split('/small/').join('/large/');
$carousel.trigger('slideTo', [$('img[src="' + src + '"]', $carousel), 'next']);
});
});
// comment out the click function and uncomment this section of #texts to have a synchronised carousel with captions but no click function
$('#texts').carouFredSel({
items: 1,
direction: 'left',
responsive:true,

duration: 500,
easing: 'quadratic',
timeoutDuration: 5500
}
});
});
Now I used jquery version 1.8.2 and caroufredsel version 6.2.1. thanks again for the help in advance. sorry if my code looks messy as well.Latest update as of 3/22/2014:: I went thru the documentation of the plugin CarouFredSel and stumbled upon one of the settable parameters/ configurations called "synchronise". If I understood it right, I can synchronise 2 carousels to respond to the same event. So i added the line of code "synchronise:{"#carousel"} into the text carousel to tell it to synchronise it with the main carousel...
$('#texts').carouFredSel({
items: 1,
direction: 'left',
responsive:true,
synchronise:{"#carousel"},/*This is the new line I added*/
auto: {
play: true,
duration: 500,
easing: 'quadratic',
timeoutDuration: 5500
}
});
Unfortunately that did not work as well. Now there is no timing pattern as well. everytime I click the small image it just went ahead in position at a random rate. So I am still stuck with the same problem if not making it worse. Thanks for the help in advance.
After fighting with the problem for more than a week, I was able to figure out a solution to my problem. Now it may not be the best solution but it worked and hence I am posting it so that in future if somebody else has the same or similar problem, it may be of help.Now if anyone came up with a solution that works better, I would still like you to post it here for I may want to learn what you did, why you did it and learn from the experience. I dont claim to be an expert programmer. I am still learning and this site has been a great learning tool for me so far.Anyway coming back to the problem, I added this piece of code...
//sais try: synchronise texts and carousel to work together and on click
var index = $(this).triggerHandler( 'currentPosition' );
if ( index == 0 ) {
index = $(this).children().length;
}
// trigger the titles carousel
$('#texts').trigger('slideTo', [ index, 'next' ]);
right here...
// create large carousel
$carousel.carouFredSel({
items: {
visible: 1,
width: 580,

now with that i was able to synchronise the carousels (#carousel, #texts) together to work with the click function/feature as well. Also I had tried to synchronise the carousel using a synchronise function thats in carouFredSel. Well take that out. It did not work.I dont know if this is going to be useful to anyone else but if it did, thats great. But again if somebody came up with a better solution please do let me know as well. Thanks. Keep up the goo work
I have a code that I am working on so that it has a heading tag and an arrow floated to the right and when you click on that arrow it shows the contents of the hidden element and changes the down arrow to an up arrow. Everything seems to work fine except the links I have under the image within the toggle do not work. I cannot highlight the text for some reason so I am assuming that there is an overlap somewhere in my coding.
The JavaScript
function toggleDisplayNewark() {
document.getElementById("toggleMe").style.display == "none";
if(document.getElementById("toggleMe").style.display == "none" ) {
document.getElementById("toggleMe").style.display = "inline";
document.getElementById("toggleMe").style.visibility = "visible";
document.getElementById("arrow").style.background = "url(img/up.png) no-repeat";
} else {
document.getElementById("toggleMe").style.display = "none";
document.getElementById("arrow").style.background = "url(img/down.png) no-repeat";
}
}
The HTML
<div id='newark'>
<div class='text-heading'>
<h2>Newark</h2>
<a href="#newark" onclick="toggleDisplayNewark();">
<div id='arrow'></div>
</a>
</div>
<div id='toggleMe' style='display: none;'>
<div class='alignleft thumb-imgs'>
<img src='img/excercise.png' />
<a href='http://exercise.com/' target='_blank'>Exercise Institute</a>
</div>
<div class='clear'></div>
</div>
</div>
The CSS
#arrow {background: url(http://emf-websolutions.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/down.png) no-repeat; height: 27px; width: 29px; float: right; margin: -30px 10px 0 0;}
#toggleMe {display: none;}
.text-heading {-webkit-border-radius: 5px; border-radius: 5px; margin: 10px 0; width: 640px; padding: 5px 0px; background: #333; border: 1px solid red;}
.clear {clear: both;}
.thumb-imgs {width: 204px; height: 210px; padding: 5px 5px 40px 5px;}
I built this in a html file before I put it into wordpress so I could make sure that it works properly. I just can't seem to find where the problem lies. I have striped down the coding so that it would not take up so much space. The idea of this is to have a heading with an arrow in the right side to drop down this box with 3 images with a link under each one for each line.
Thanks for your help in advance.
http://jsfiddle.net/QXSXC/
remove the onclick
<a href="#newark" >
and use jQuery:
$('#newark').click(function() {
document.getElementById("toggleMe10").style.display == "none";
if(document.getElementById("toggleMe10").style.display == "none" ) {
document.getElementById("toggleMe10").style.display = "inline";
document.getElementById("toggleMe10").style.visibility = "visible";
document.getElementById("arrow10").style.background = "url(img/up.png) no-repeat";
} else {
document.getElementById("toggleMe10").style.display = "none";
document.getElementById("arrow10").style.background = "url(img/down.png) no-repeat";
}
});
You can assign a handler to #newarkwith pure JS google it if you can't use jQuery
